Sedgwick County Fair’s Got Talent has established a track record as one of the most popular annual events at the Fair.

Singers, dancers, instrumentalists, and sometimes variety performers, all take to the stage and try to impress a panel of judges. The winners go home with cash prizes.

Last year’s winner was Levi Rust, a Cheney High School football player and singer.

“You wouldn’t look at him and think he’s going to sing like Frank Sinatra,” said Amy Meyer, who has organized Fair’s Got Talent for the past seven years. “That’s what he did, and he took the crown. He’ll be singing the national anthem at the Fair parade, and then he’ll be singing for us while the judges are deliberating during the finals on Saturday.”

Talented people of all ages are invited to compete.

Brinley Self, a grade school student, finished in the top three last year for her Irish step dancing. “I always love it when the little ones get up there to perform, because it takes so much guts,” Meyer said. The first round of Fair’s Got Talent will start Thursday, July 21, at 7 p.m. The finals will be Saturday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m. Both Where & When nights will be held in the Open Air Arena.
