Friday evening’s featured musical entertainment is Air City Rock, a cover band based in Wichita. Air City Rock focuses on pop rock, especially tracks from the 1990s and 2000s.
“We do ‘Mister Brightside,’ by the Killers, all the way to ‘3 AM’ by Matchbox 20; or from ‘All The Small Things’ to Tom Petty, Green Day, Sublime. It’s all that kind of stuff,” said Isaac Pearson, who plays rhythm guitar and is one of the band’s three vocalists.
The rest of the lineup includes Phil Martin, lead guitar; Blake Ester, bass and vocals; and Scott Spriggs, drums and vocals.
“We started this probably about 10 years ago,” Pearson said. “I moved here from the West Coast about that time, and I actually met these guys off of Craigslist back in the day. We all play in other bands, too. Air City Rock is a place we can come together, have a good time, and play the songs we grew up listening to and learning as teenagers ourselves.”
This will be Air City Rock’s first time at the Fair, but they have played a lot of events around Wichita, including many local bars and clubs.
“With a cover band, it’s a different mentality than a band that plays originals,” Pearson said. “When you’re an originals band, you want to play your own songs and engage people that way. When you’re doing covers, it’s really much more about

the audience. From a cover perspective, you’re there to entertain people with nostalgia, rather than something they need to sit and actively listen to. When people know the song already, they can enjoy it on whatever level they like. As long as the vibe is good, everyone’s having a good time.”
