Dirty Gentlemen play music that ‘makes you feel good’

The Dirty Gentlemen play music that “makes you feel good,” according to band member Carlos Cervantes.

“You can have a rough day at work, or a rough day with the girlfriend, or whatever it is. Then you just hear some music, and it seems to take everything away and make everything better,” Cervantes said. “I think that’s why musicians start playing to begin with: Music just makes you feel good, and it takes you to another place.”

The Dirty Gentlemen will be featured at 9 p.m. Saturday in the Open Air Arena. In addition to Cervantes, who sings and plays bass, the lineup includes Jeff Dreiling on lead vocals, Phil Bollig on guitar and vocals, and Ron Gilbert on drums.

The band plays covers from the 1970s through the present day, including country, pop, and a little bit of everything.

“We’ve all been in bands for like the last 15 years, and this band has been together for four or five years,” Cervantes said. “We’ve played in other bands, together, so this is kind of the culmination of a lot of other bands.”

The Gentlemen like to add a rock tinge to their covers, even if they’re playing a country tune. Bollig and Cervantes add vocal harmonies and take their turns as lead vocalist to give Dreiling a break during long sets.
