To maintain a professional designation, individuals must maintain membership in SACIA or an affiliate body, abide by a code of professional conduct, and participate in a programme of continuing professional development. Several training providers, including Universities and Higher Education Institutes, deliver SACIAvalidated CPD programmes – you'll see them using the SACIA-validated CPD logo to prove our Certification Council has assessed their course. In addition, SACIA has partnered with several international providers who deliver training to members.
SACIA is also a signatory to the Parktown Declaration, an agreement between SAQArecognised professional bodies to recognise each offer's CPD training activities. CPD training activities verified by a signatory to the Parktown Declaration will be recognised by all other signatories.
Individuals who hold professional designations are required to earn 45 CPD points in a revolving three-year period commencing with the award of their designation. These points can be achieved through continued employment, training programmes, workshops and seminars, volunteer activity on the SACIA Board or one of the SACIA Councils and task groups, volunteer activity within a Board or committee established by an affiliate body, mentorship, and skills-transfer activities. This two-day course is a beginner's guide to the Broadcast & Media Industry. It looks at the terminology, technology and processes used in producing and distributing content. It also includes an overview of the content creation process, from idea to delivery - along with the equipment, people and jargon. It provides an excellent overview of the entire broadcast and media business.

This 3-day course splits equally between audio and video technology. The audio element starts by exploring how sound and acoustics work before exploring how audio is created and handled in analogue and digital environments. It then explores measurement systems and how audio can be handled in multi-channel environments from stereo to 5.1. It completes by looking at sound's practical aspects, including microphones, speakers, mixers, effects, equipment and communications systems. The video section starts with an exploration of resolution and scanning systems, interlace and progressive systems and a review of frame rates around the world, completing with a look at synchronisation and reference signals. It then moves on to look at luminance and chrominance signals exploring the human eye and RGB signals, as well as our perception of colour and component signals. In the final part, the course explores digital video systems and standards. It also looks at future developments in video technology as UHD and IP transport systems become more prevalent.

The course will examine modern production processes and how they can be broken down so that computers and automation systems can control them. It also looks at the terminology and procedures that comprise the diverse and converging environment that broadcasting, media, and IT now share.

The world of broadcast and IT are now intimately linked, and almost every aspect of production, creation and delivery is managed and controlled by IT systems. With the movement of large files and the need for heavy processing, the requirements of a broadcaster's IT are somewhat different from those of the average commercial user. Introducing SMPTE ST2022/6 and ST2120, these courses will also explain how the most significant revolution to hit the industry in decades is just starting. There are three versions of the course.

This two-day course examines how we pass video and audio through the broadcast system and the techniques we use to make this possible. It looks at files and codecs in detail. This involves learning about compression techniques, looking at wrappers and how they are used to put multiple sets of data into a single file, and the metadata, which is then used to describe the data. The course will investigate the working principles of lossless and lossy compression techniques and how those are applied to the standard codecs we used, from JPEG to H265.

This 5-day workshop in Broadcast Quality Assessment will train learners on quality assessment of audio and video signals based on ITU international standards. This will include both analogue and digital signals. Learners will be taught the concepts of quality control, the processes involved, the systems used to manage quality, qualitative and quantitative measurements. The standards for video, audio and codecs, digital files and data will be considered during the training, including a practical discussion of the SPMTE ST 2110 standard, Audio Over IP and the Networked Media Open Specifications.
This workshop will also provide technical training for staff using video and audio measurement equipment to measure video and audio signal components. Learners will be able to identify anomalies with the different signals, including audio and video signals that do not comply with international standards. Learners will also configure measurement equipment to trap alarms and identify signal synchronisation issues.

In the professional audio-visual space, there are several types of network, but the one that dominates across all areas of modern ProAV systems is the Ethernet IT network used for control, monitoring and signal transport.
This practical 3-day course will help you:

In South Africa, various Acts, Regulations, Standards and Bylaws dictate that every event appoints a competent person to act as an event safety officer to ensure the safety of staff, performers and spectators.
Severe penalties also apply if an event safety officer is not appointed, or the appointed person is deemed incompetent based on a review of their qualifications and work experience.
The Certified Event Safety Practitioner designation (SAQA designation 1115) provides professional recognition for event safety officers. This 3-day course is designed to assist safety officers in preparing for the examination and assessment relating to this designation.

This five-day course examines the science behind the technology used in the theatre and live events industry. It is specifically aimed at theatre and live event technicians with several years of work experience who want to refresh their theoretical knowledge before writing the TLE001 examination.
It's also relevant for theatre and live event technicians who've acquired knowledge through workplace learning programmes and self-study. The course content will build upon their practical skills and allow them to understand the underlying science behind the equipment they use daily.

For the first time, "Events Design and Experience" draws together the relationship between event design and the experience of consumers and participants. This two-day course explores and analyses the event experience of the individual and how this can be 'controlled' by design.
Drawing upon ongoing research conducted over several years into the experiences of groups and individuals who attend events, this course will ask questions such as: What was the rationale behind a particular event being designed in a certain way? What was the experience of consumers? How was the event materially delivered, and did the experience created to provide a satisfactory outcome? How can experiences be understood (via semiotics), especially the physical elements of an event?
