BUILDING FOUNDATIONS OF INTEGRITY: NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES A two-day International Conference on 'Building Foundations of Integrity: National and International Experiences' was held in Kathmandu on 12 and 13 December 2013. The conference provided a platform for national and international experts, Nepalese dignitaries and stakeholders to share their experiences on promoting national integrity. Prominent experts from around the world shared anti corruption solutions and knowledge for Nepal. Conference was inaugurated by Rt Hon Chairman of the Interim Government of Nepal, Khil Raj Regmi with opening remarks given by the Norwegian Ambassador, Excellency Kjell Tormod Pettersen. NEPAL IN CPI 2013
In Corruption Perception Index -2013, Nepal ranks 116th, with a score of 31 on a scale of 0-100, with 0 denoting the corrupt. In 2012, Nepal stood at 139th position with a score of 27.
" Countries obtaining less than 50 have been listed as most corrupt countries; hence there is an urgent need of intervention to reduce corruption in Nepal " said a TI Nepal

EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCE

A meeting on 20 December, 2013 in Kathmandu with representatives from TI-Nepal, TI-India, TI-Bangladesh and TI-Sri Lanka agreed to exchange 5 chapter representatives within the region during 2014-15. The South-South Asia exchange program, initiated in 2009, has allowed TI national chapters in South Asia to exchange 23 representatives till date to learn from each others' experiences.
CELEBRATING ANTI CORRUPTION DAY
International anti corruption day was celebrated on December 9, 2013 in collaboration with Sisno-Pani Nepal, one of the renowned satirical theatre groups. A humorous satirical program with a strong anti-corruption message was delivered in the presence of stakeholders. During the occasion, TI-Nepal delivered an appeal targeting the newly elected constituent assembly (parliament) for some immediate political and administrative reforms. A book titled “Trends� with compilation of 34 short stories written by 31 different writers on anti-corruption issues was also launched.
NATIONAL INTEGRITY AWARD 2013 During international anticorruption day (December 9) senior cultural expert Satya Mohan Joshi was honored with National Integrity Award 2013 for leading an exemplary life of integrity in public service and retirement. While being honored, Mr. Joshi narrated his experiences and thanked his seniors who helped to nurture values and discipline early in his professional life.

On 15th and 16th December 2013, TI Nepal conducted an orientation program for its affiliated organizations with 15 participants from 5 districts - Dhading, Kathmandu, Kailali, Surkhet and Gulmi. The event was a platform to discuss initial set-up, team building and work plan of the ALAC-DP project.
