REGIONAL PROGRAMME MEETING TI Asia Pacific Department and TI Nepal (TIN) co-organized the Asia Pacific Regional Programme Meeting (RPM) in Kathmandu on 19 - 21 May, 2014. The RPM focused on programmatic work and addressed knowledge and best practices sharing serving the specific needs of chapter executives. The program had more than 60 participants representing TI movement from the region.

NIS REPORT LAUNCH TI in collaboration with TIN organized an event “Fighting corruption in South Asia: Building integrity and accountability,” in Kathmandu to launch two new research reports “Fighting corruption in South Asia” and “National Integrity System Assessment Nepal 2014.” The reports were launched at the conclusion of the TI Asia Pacific Regional Meeting in Kathmandu in May 2014.

DISCUSS ISSUES Dr Srirak Plipat, Regional Director, Transparency International paid courtesy calls to His Excellency Secretary General of SAARC, Arjun B. Thapa and Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal, Lilamani Paudyal on 23 May 2014 during the Asia Pacific Regional Program Meeting of Transparency International (TI) held at Kathmandu. Discussions focused on the recently launched TI South Asian National Integrity System report and on issues of mutual concern.

TIN BOARD VISITS TISL A 5 day long exposure visit took place from 21 to 25 April, 2014 where TIN President, Bishnu Bahadur K.C. and Secretary General, Bharat Bahadur Thapa visited TISL to learn and share about the ongoing leadership and governance approach adopted by the chapters. During the exchange, board members shared their current leadership model, and also observed how organization competence is being built at TISL. This exchange was one of the rare opportunities where the board members discussed about the governing norms, procedures and protocols at a bilateral level.

TIN TEAM VISITS BANGLADESH Kamal Pokhrel, Deputy Executive Director, Mohan Budhathoki, Program Coordinator, and Binod Bhattarai, Program Officer, visited Transparency International Bangladesh from May 4 to 8, 2014 with the purpose to learn from TIB’s programs. TIN team met with Deputy Executive Director, TIB, Ms Sumaiya Khair, Civic Engagement Division (CED), Research and Policy Division (RPD), Outreach and communication Division (OCD), Finance & Administration, Dhaka Medical College (DMC), Committee of concerned Citizens (CCC) in Musingunj, Nayagaon Primary School. The team also participated in CCC’s program called “Face the Public” in a general hospital at Musingunj.

MEDIA TRAINING

South Asia Media training was organized by TI Asia Pacific Department on 9 -10 April, 2014 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The purpose of the training was to bring together media and communication experts and to train in effective usie of social media. Handling the breaking news, writing for press, giving interviews and information and communication between TIchapters and target audience were overviewed. Senior Communications Officer, Thamnath Ghimire and Program Officer Shristi Karki attended the training.

OPEN GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP MEETING

Ashish Thapa, Executive Director, TIN participated in the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Meeting in Bali from 4-7 May, 2014. Meeting had the repesentation of high level governemnt officials and civil society representatives from Asia Pacific region to promote committments on transparency.

ALAC DP REVIEW WITH PARTNERS CHITWAN

A team of Transparency International Nepal visited Chitwan on 12 May, 2014 to facilitate a media gallery under ALAC DP project and to interview anti-corruption activists, service providers and service seekers on a fortnightly program name 'Inspiration.’

MOBILE ALAC IN DHADING DISTRICT

A mobile ALAC program was organized in Dhading district on 29 April 2014. The Chief District Officer of Dhading highlighted the effectiveness of this progam to improve the quality of services provided by public offices of the Nepali government. 51 complaints were registered in the program.

PROGRAM REVIEW AND TRAINING

Transparency International Nepal ALAC DP team held 'Review and Training' in Dhulikhel on April 2014 and “Program Review” in Nagarkot on June, 2014. The program was divided into theoretical discussion and practical exercise. The programs discussed current status, challenges and ways forward. The programs were attended by TIN board, secretariat, president and members of the Affiliated Organizations.

CYCLE RALLY A cycle rally was organized by TIN affiliated organization - Bageshwory Good Governance Club (BAS) Nepalgunj on 17 April, 2014, from Banke to Bardia district. The rally involved people in anti-corruption and RTI movement to create pressure on local stakeholder for integrity pledge. The rally was jointly inaugurated by TIN President Bishnu Bahadur K.C. and Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen, Minister Counsellor of Royal Norwegian Embassy, Kathmandu. Around 65 youths and women participated in the Rally.

WELCOME JWALA Jwala Bhatt, who has been interning with TIN since November 2013, has been selected as the FK Exchange Fellow from TIN to TIB for 2014-2015. He will leave for a preparatory course to be held in Bangkok this July.

FAREWELL HARITHA TIN’s exchange fellow from TI Sri Lanka, Haritha Dahanayaka, who has been in Nepal since August 2013, is heading back home after completing his fellowship. TIN has honored Haritha for his contribution in improving the IT system, designing a brand and developing a state of the art website for TIN. TIN wishes Haritha success in future endeavors.

UPCOMING

IPAIDABRIBE TIN in collaboration with Janagraha, NGO based in Bangalore in India, is currently working on launching one of the South Asia’s most famous and effective anti-corruption portal for Nepal– ipaidabribe.com.np.

TRAINING IN VIENNA Dina Nath Bhattarai, Administrative Officer, is participating in upcoming International Anti-Corruption Summer Academy (IACSA) organized by The International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Laxenburg, Austria from 3-12 July 2014. Guided by the theme “Practice Meets Science,” the program will focus on examining the cross-cutting nature of corruption in a globalized world.

ALAC DP MID-TERM EVALUATION ALAC DP team is hiring an external consultant to conduct mid-term evaluation to assess the effectiveness of the project.
