Background As a famous agricultural region in Taiwan, Yilan provides a variety of crops for Taiwanese families. Recent years, the Yilan government encourages local farmers to switch into organic farming. Therefore, plenty of farmers have started to grow different kinds of organic crops.
We visited Xing-Jian organic villiage and saw how they had applied organic farming. By interviewing with two local farmers, we were able to understand the meanings of organic farming and difficulties they might encounter.
-10-
Research & Analysis Without using any pesticide and artificial fertilizer, farmers need to remove the weeds and insects constantly by their own hands. Organic farming could be a heavy burden for farmers, so just few farmers were willing to engage in organic farming.
After visiting Xing-Jian organic villiage, we observed one foundamenal problem: the organic food market in Taiwan was still small. Thus, the market was not able to support the sustainable development and expansion of Taiwanese organic farming.

To break the limitation of distance, we plan deliver information and knowlwdge regarding organic farming by demostrating “truck road-show” at places where our target groups usually visit and gather. To enhance the impression of our target groups, we offer multi-sensories experience to stand out the comparison between organic farming and conventional farming.

Prototype We planned to carry out an mobile exhibition in the truck. The exhibition consists of four parts: Conventional Farming Display, Organic Farming Display, From Farm to Fork, and Blindfolded Taste Experience and the audiences are expected to learn more about organic farming after their visits.

From Farm to Fork
-13-
Blindfolded Taste Experience
Prototype Conventional Farming Display Films will be played in Conventional Farming Display section and the audiences will explore the consequence of using pesticides in farming through senses of seeing, hearing and smelling from the perspective of a corp.
At the beginning of the film, the scenery of a vibrant farmland with insects and weeds would be shown. As long as the farmer starts to use pesticides and herbicides, insects and weeds are terminated from the farmland. Infertile land for any kind of crop is the consequence of using pesticides.
-14-
Prototype Organic Farming Display In Organic Farming Display section, the film will show how a farm had been changed after switching conventional farming into organic farming. The audiences will still be set as a crop and experience the environmental transformation
A farmland without any cultivation. Instead of using chemical pesticides, farmers pull off weeds by hands. Organic farming becomes a substitution method. The farmland gradually becomes prosperous. The pleasant music from various kinds of insects and birds chirping can be heard.
-15-
Prototype From Farm to Fork This display compares the difference of environment, safety, nutrition, economics, and taste between organic and conventional farming practice by infographic. It aims to make the audiences realize how much change it will bring if they choose a different consuming mode.
Videos explaining why organic farmers and consumers should support organic products would be shown in this section.
-16-
Prototype Blindfolded Taste Experience Lastly, the Blindfolded Taste Area invites audiences to sense the differences between organic rice and rice grown by conventional farming by tasting.
We also provide information of organic shops nearby to audiences who are interested in trying organic farming products. A message board would be installed for receiving feedbacks from audiences and future improvements can be made in the exhibition.
-17-
Prototype In order to attract more attentions, the truck is specially furnished with plywood and our logo would be printed on it as well. Part of truck is installed with glass in order to trigger people’s curiosity.
By putting all these elements into the truck, the exhibition will actively engaged with possible audiences. We hope we can promote the organic lifestyle to our audiences with different cultural and social background.

The food for patients needed to be prepared properly. 1. The quantities of different kinds of food supplied for different nutritions should be standardlized. 2. All food has to be heated up to 100 degree celsius. 3. Food has to be smashed into liquid mixture.

Target Users After the chemical therapies, patients have to take rest at home for at least 1 to 3 months. In this period of time, they or their family members have to prepare the food by themselves.
The central kitchen will prepare the food for residencing patients. They usually need to stay at the hospital for 3 to 4 days to receive the chemical therapies.

Piece of Scenery September 2012 - January 2013 Graduation Work, First Semester, Senior Supervisor: Sally Lin Personal : Concept Development, Model Production
-59-
Background In China, there is a famous proverb: The most beautiful water is in Jiu zhai gou; the most beautiful mountain is in Zhang jia jie. Zhang jia jie is in middle part of China. I went there in 2009. The scenery was really breathtaking and impressive.
CHINA
-60-
Research & Study In the ancient landscape painting, the mountain scenery is exactly what our ancestors always wanted to bring into their masterpieces. The great Chinese poet Su Shi wrote a famous poem on the wall of a mountain, praising the beauty of mountains.
The great ancient Chinese poet “Su Shi thought the most interesting part of mountain scenery is that seeing from different angle will have different view. So people walking in the mountain can always experience this change. -61-
Concept Wondering in the meandering trail deeply tucked in the mountains, I was inundated by the breath-taking view of the mountains that dot my surroundings. Make a turn and discover a completely different view which may disorient you that is hiding in another corner. I attempt to bring this captivating scenery into our daily lives, making urban people indulge themselves in these fascinating subtleties.
-62-
Development The begining model starts from a set of Chinese style dishes.
Separating the container into many small mountains for better flexibility.
Then I adjust the mountain and develop a set of cruets.
Continue to adjust the shape of mountain and develop a big plant content.
Make the mountain more interesting and changable.

Our Client Our client is a Japanese household appliances company which has focused on design and production of household humidifiers and aromatherapy machines for decades. Recently, as a response to the increasing demand for household coffee markers within the Japanese domestic market, they started to put new effort on developing new product lines for coffee marker and other associated products.
As households in Japanese are usually small and cozy, the new product shall be able to fit with limited household space and simple to operate by the users with a stylish and colorful design.
-70-
Background The third wave of coffee was a movement aimed to produce high quality coffee, and consider coffee as an artisanal foodstuff such as wine rather than a common commodity meanwhile. It emphasized improvement on different stages of coffee production; from introducing better plantation technology, to higher quality of coffee beans and skillful brewing. (*God in a Cup: The Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Coffee)
Recently, this movement has been prosperous in Japan as Japanese coffee culture in certain extents inspired the raise of the movement. Numerous Japanese coffee shops have made significant effort on selecting better quality of coffee bean worldwide and advanced brewing skills which has generating raising demand for coffee associated products among the Japanese middle class households.
-71-
Research & Study One of the most important elements for a cup of fresh coffee is the beans. Good coffee beans should not be grounded in advance as they would release CO2 rapidly during the process which would affect the texture and quality of the beans. It helps explaining why customers now eager to purchase roasted beans and grind them freshly for making better cups.

Full-automatic coffee makers have been introduced to the Japanese market for years while most of them are designed for 4-6 cups instead of 1-2 cups which has also created a new demand gap for small-scaled household coffee marker in Japan. It inspired me and our client to design a single serving full-automatic coffee make to suit with new market trend.
