SPRING/2015

MEN’S COACH’S CORNER Dear Alumni and Friends, The team has been working hard and playing well despite this sub-freezing weather. In all my years, I’ve never been through a February like this one, but the team hasn’t let that get in the way of getting quality practices in. Our first two scrimmages and our recent 19-4 win against UMass-Lowell were good indicators of how we have been progressing since the start of preseason. Our game against a high-level program in #7 Maryland last weekend was a good test for us and a very positive outcome. While spring and warmer weather could not come sooner, we ANDY SHAY, RYAN AND FORST FAMILY are looking forward to the upcoming HEAD COACH OF MEN’S LACROSSE season even more. We look forward to seeing you at some of our home games, and as always the boys are pumped to represent the program in the coming spring. Go Bulldogs, Andy Shay

WOMEN’S COACH’S CORNER Dear Yale Lacrosse Alumni and Friends of Yale Lacrosse, We are busy getting ready for the 2015 season. After a great fall, we are looking forward to a very successful 2015 spring season. We have added three new opponents to our 2015 schedule, University of Denver, Canisius and San Diego State. Both Denver, ranked 19th in the IWLCA Preseason Poll, and Canisius, qualified last year for the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Ivy League continues to be one of the toughest conferences in the country. The addition of these formidable opponents significantly improves our strength of schedule. Our game with San Diego State is on March 28, 2015 at 7:00pm. If you are unable to come to Reese Stadium that night, the game will be televised on ESPN3. ANNE PHILLIPS, JOEL E. SMILOW, CLASS OF 1954 HEAD COACH OF WOMEN’S LACROSSE We welcomed Andrea Cofrin to our staff as first assistant this fall. Andrea brings a great deal of coaching experience to our program and we are excited to have her join us. Ashley Casiano returns for her second season and will continue to work with our goalkeepers. We are excited about the 2015 team. We return 25 experienced upper classmen, 9 starters and 8 talented freshmen. We are seeing great things at practice and have high expectations for the season. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at a game this spring! Go Bulldogs, Anne Phillips

LACROSSE / SPRING, 2015

CAPTAIN’S CORNER WITH KERRY FLEISHHACKER What does it mean to be captain of the Men’s Lacrosse team? Having been elected captain has been such an incredible and humbling honor. In the course of this past year, I've had the opportunity to lead this team, alongside the rest of my senior class. Being captain has allowed me to get to know myself better as an individual and player, in addition to my teammates. If you had to describe this year’s team in one word, what would it be? The best word to describe the 2015 Yale women's lacrosse team would be relentlessness. We have worked hard everyday since the fall and we've finally realized our potential. we will not stop until we reach the success we truly deserve. What is the biggest thing you’ll take away from your experience as a student athlete at Yale? Being a student-athlete at Yale has provided me with experiences that have not only made me a more mature and responsible person, but also have connected me with the most talented and incredible people I've ever met and their stories have shaped the person who I've been able to become.

CAPTAIN’S CORNER WITH HARRY KUCHARCZYK What does it mean to be captain of the Men’s Lacrosse team? Being the captain has been a remarkable experience. It continues to serve as a great learning tool and a very rewarding experience. If you had to describe this year’s team in one word, what would it be? The acronym ONE (Only Need Everybody) gets thrown around a lot in our locker room and I believe that it perfectly characterizes our team. Every team mate has an important job on this team whether you are the best player or the last man on the bench. The guys all know that they all have an essential role that is critical to our team’s success. What is the biggest thing you’ll take away from your experience as a student athlete at Yale? The people I have met throughout my journey as a Yale student athlete is the biggest thing that I will take away from this experience. Between current students and alumni I have established incredible relationships that will extend much further than the class room and the lacrosse field.

Here’s the latest update:

The charts reflect new donors to the associations from July 1, 2014 through January 21, 2015. They do not reflect gifts made to any endowment or capital account. The student-athlete’s team is doing really well this year and ge ng a lot of posi ve publicity. I have a big promo on coming up to sell one of my products. Can I create an adver sement, in print and/or on the radio, emphasizing that Yale student-athletes use and recommend my product? Can I use their names, pictures, or likenesses? It is not permissible for student-athletes to par cipate in any promo onal ac vi es on behalf of a commercial en ty. You cannot use a student-athlete’s picture to promote a commercial product. Therefore, student-athletes may not be used to promote your product because of their status or success. I am sponsoring a fundraiser at my restaurant for cancer research. When someone purchases a meal, all of the proceeds go toward cancer research. On the day of the event, can the student-athlete that works for me wear his/ her Yale uniform and invite teammates to work as part of the fes vi es? They are very recognizable and I want as many people to donate me and money to this cause as possible. No. Student-Athletes may not par cipate in any promo onal ac vi es for a commercial enterprise, even if it is for charitable purposes. The employee’s status as an Yale student-athlete cannot be used to promote this event, even though it is for a charitable cause.
