W

e are creating a mentoring committee to help current players with things like resume review, interview prep, career advice. We are looking to hold one in-person event a year and cultivate a program of connection between alumni and players that happens on a one-on-one basis throughout the year. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor, being a part of our mentor database, or getting involved in any way please let us know.

We have all benefited in some way from this incredible network and we can’t wait to show the current team the power of the Yale Soccer community.

e are glad to welcome Vannessa Resnick ’05, a four year member of the Women’s Soccer team as co-president of the Yale Soccer Association. Vanessa graduated from Yale with a distinction in economics and has worked at Credit Suisse in mortgage trading since graduation. She received an executive MBA from both Columbia and London business schools and is a die-hard Athletico Madrid fan.

MEN’S COACH’S CORNER Dear Alumni, Family & Friends, I hope this note finds you well. As we put a wrap on preseason and take on the early part of our schedule, I couldn’t be more pleased with the effort and work rate these young men have shown thus far. One of the areas that we have consistently talked about is being a blue-collar team and we want to be the fittest and hardest working team in the Ivy League. I truly believe we have succeeded in this so far but it’s only the beginning and we must continue on this path for us to make these actions become daily habits, and then turn these habits into a winning mentality, which eventually builds a Championship culture and mindset for the entire program.

All the work this group has been doing started back in January and the guys are very excited to be working through the season. While we have a good core of returners, we have 12 new faces that we are working with to acclimate to the speed and demands of Division I college soccer and the standards 5K CORRAL HEAD and expectations we have set for this program. There are some promising young players and I expect COACH OF YALE to see some of them push the returning group in several areas. In general, the team spirit and cohesiveMEN’S SOCCER ness of the group is coming together well. Not only have the guys been working very hard on the field KYLIE STANNARD but we are also utilizing a great resource through the Yale athletic department this year with a mental performance coach, Brian Cain. He met with the guys a few times during pre-season and everyone has been very positive about this experience. We look forward to adding this mental training to our physical and soccer training to see the amazing things of which our bodies and minds are capable of achieving.

Personally, I am honored and humbled to begin my first season as the head coach of this 108-year-old program. Yale is an incredible place and I’m very thankful to have been given this opportunity. My coaching staff and I are working extremely hard to ensure that we are competing at a level that you can and will be proud to represent. We hope to see you at many games this fall and look forward to getting to know more and more alumni that have laid a great foundation for this program!

WOMEN’S COACH’S CORNER Dear Yale Soccer Alumni, I hope that everyone had a nice summer and enjoyed watching USA win the World Cup. It is with great excitement that I write this letter, as I feel very good about our preseason preparations and am proud of how the team has taken on the early part of its schedule. We have a nice roster of returning players along with an excellent recruiting class that will make an immediate impact. Our recruiting class is ranked 12th in the country and includes three youth national team players from Jamaica and England!

This year we are going to try a couple of new things. First of all, I will be launching a Coach’s Halftime Talk this season in an effort to get more alumni to watch us on live stream. I will take and answer questions from alumni at every home game. I look forward to receiving your questions, and I think that this will be a fun way for us to stay connected. I will be in touch with the ways you can submit questions at halftime.

Secondly, we will be trying to break our home Ivy League attendance record on October 3rd at 4:00 as we take on Harvard. My goal is to get over 3,000 people at this game. All alumni and friends of alumni are invited to our Post Game Meal following the game, and we look forward to seeing you there. Also, all alumni in attendance will receive a free t-shirt!
