YALE UNIVERSITY Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation _____________________________________________________________ September 13, 2017 Dear Parents, Alumnae and Friends of Yale Volleyball: The Yale Volleyball Family reaches far and wide. It includes our players, their parents and friends, alumnae and friends of our program. While experiencing exhilarating competition playing for Yale’s top-notch volleyball program, our players receive far more benefits from the long-term, special friendships they share with each other over the years than just the time they spend on the court together. These athletes are learning to be strong team members, to work towards a common goal – the Ivy League Championship, and to perfect these significant life skills going forward. We want to thank you for your continued support of Yale Women’s Volleyball and to inform you of the 2017 Yale Volleyball Fundraising Drive. This effort is to raise the money to cover a few selected items that will enhance our players’ experience and success this season and beyond. Each year the program is tasked by the university with raising a minimum level of $15,000 to offset its costs. Here is how we have set this year’s goals. General Expenses International Travel Fund Promotion Fund Pre-Season Meals In Season Pre-Game Meals
Immediate Target $ 5,000 0 3,000 2,500 7,500 $18,000
Extended Target $ 5,000 15,000 ++ 3,000 2,500 7,500 $33,000 ++
Last year, in 2016, we reached a little over $32,000 of funding which included $16,000 to start up VolleyMetrix and nearly $10,000 for the locker room remodel. This year, the general expenses is to cover multiple annual obligations, including the licensing fees on the VolleyMetrix software. The contribution to the pre-season and pre-game meals are self-explanatory. New this year in the Immediate Target is a promotion fund to be utilized to create additional enthusiasm and attendance at home matches. As was presented at the Parents Chalk Talk on September 2nd, the volleyball program wants to create an International Travel Fund which will be used for one international volleyball trip every 4 years. To take the first trip the fund needs to reach a total of $70,000 to $80,000. If we raise $15,000 to $20,000 each and every year this international trip will become a reality. As was discussed, parents of seniors and probably the juniors, are contributing funds that will never provide a trip for their daughter. However, like planting a tree at the park – it is not a contribution so that you can have shade tomorrow, but so that future generations can have shade.
