YALE TENNIS ASSOCIATION COACHES REPORT

Bulldog Spotlight Women’s Team Junior Tina Jiang from Bridgewater N.J. joined the team at the beginning of this academic year as a transfer student-athlete from Columbia University. Tina made an immediately impact on the team playing high in the line up in singles and doubles. Tina had a good run this fall at the Northeast Regional Championships reaching the quarterfinals in the singles and in doubles (with her sophomore partner Valeria Shklover). Tina’s singles record is 5-5 after her fall campaign. In addition to her on-court contributions, Tina brings a lot of positive energy to practices and matches adding her value to the Elis.

Men’s Team Junior Alex Hagermoser from Hinsdale, IL joins an elite group of walk-ons, from Cam Ragen ’90 to Zach Dean ’13, who have made a significant impact on the court for the Elis. Alex has been a regular starter in the doubles line-up since freshman year compiling an overall record of 28-25 and a dual match record of 17-15. Alex also saw some starting time in singles over the past two years, and is poised to be a regular in this year’s singles line-up having already accumulated an impressive 10-2 singles record this fall. Alex’s extraordinary work ethic has played a major role in his meteoric rise.

Mentoring Program Thanks to Lisa Finke and David Gollob for their efforts in organizing the first mentoring weekend for the YTA. It was a very successful first event, with over 20 alumni coming back to campus to participate. Players and alumni enjoyed dinner and an alumni panel Friday night and participated in resume reviews and mock interviews on Saturday morning. Following the weekend a resume book of current team members was created and current players were matched with alumni in their desired fields of interest. The mentoring program is a great benefit to the Yale tennis community on several levels; it helps current players prepare for and find internships and fulltime positions, it gets alumni more involved with the program, and it is a very useful recruiting tool. Thank you once again to all alumni who helped organize and/ or attended the event!
