EXTRA INNINGS The Yale Softball Alumni Newsletter

Welcome to Extra Innings Dear YSB’ers, WE DID IT! We won the Drive For Eli’s!!! It was a true team effort! We also surpassed our fundraising goal of $15,000, while increasing our participation by 21% this year! You all really raised the bar, and I couldn’t be more proud to be at the top of all 34 teams at Yale! This has given our program a $10,000 deposit into our account heading into this fall, which we are so thankful for.

The Numbers Challenge was a huge reason a lot of you banded together – a very big THANK YOU for your enthusiasm until the last possible minute. Special thanks to the team leaders who kept the enthusiasm going up until the last minute! Alice Liu, Jillian Gaffield, Katharine Shiota, Stefani Kirchhoff, Emily Lederer Pataki, Robyn Fiel, Kathy Ching, Mandy Taft, Cory Drewes, Nancy Cahill, Jennifer Surface, Lisa Brummel, Cara Denver, Kristen Maturo, Kristy Kwiatkowski, Ginger Miller, Elizabeth Peters, Laura Beckert, Jesseka Bartholomew, Becky Huinker, Cindy Teti and Jacquelyn Otero. Each and every one of you had a huge impact in making the Challenge a success!

Congrats to Team 3 (#’s 1, 2, & 9) on their victory! You all raised the most money ($4,045) and had the highest participation with 14 donors! We are working on the plaque for the locker room, and will send out a picture of it as soon as it is up. Thank you all for your continued support of Yale Softball! We look forward to keeping you informed. The YSB Newsletter Crew

Summer 2015

Thank you for your participation in this year’s Numbers Challenge! Congrats to Team 3 (#1, 2, 9) on their victory! With 14 donors and over $4,000 raised, they kept their donations coming in until the very last day to secure the win. Well done, Team 3! As you may recall, we had two separate goals, one for the “Best Participation” and the other for “Dollars Raised.” Team 4 (#3, 7, 13, 34) & Team 5 (#6, 14, 17) were tied for second in the “Best Participation” department, and Team 1 (#4, 11, 16) was in second place in the “Dollars Raised” area. What I am most please with is the number in pink below – the total amount raised by the YSB Association was $17,580 – which helped us reach our fundraising goal this year! It is definitely the most we have raised since I have been to Yale, and possibly the most we have ever raised as an Association. Each of you had a hand in this feat! Thank you, thank you, thank you. You all should be very proud of this accomplishment!

From the Dugout

Bulldog Friends, We are only a few short weeks from welcoming our team back to campus, and we couldn’t be more excited. We have a strong group returning, all of whom gained valuable experience last year. We also have some talented freshmen who will look to make an immediate impact when they step on campus. Please make sure to see “The Lineup” section on the first page of this newsletter – especially all of you Californians! We are coming to you this year! We will be in Southern California from March 11-20 for a few tournaments. We would love to have the west coast YSB contingent at some games, but we would also like to have a gathering/reunion while we are in town. I will follow up with more specifics in the fall. The other important event coming up this fall, is the 2nd Annual Yale-Harvard Softball tailgate. When we started this tradition at “The Game” in 2013, we were overwhelmed with the number of folks who stopped by!

I’m also pleased to announce this year’s captain, Allie Souza (Stamford, CT), who has hit the ground running in her new leadership role. I’m confident she will pick up right where last year’s captain, Sarah Onorato, left off. We made some huge strides last year, with our seniors getting their first victories over Penn and Harvard, and this year should be even more exciting! The Ivy League continues to be extremely competitive, and with the graduation of some key pitchers around the conference, this year will be a fun one to be a part of. Come share the journey with us, we promise it will be a fun ride. Sincerely, Jen Goodwin

We ended up with close to 30 people when all was said and done. I’d love to double that this year!
