Welcome to Extra Innings
Dear YSB’ers, Practices are well underway, and there’s a new energy for the YSB program this year! It has been quite chilly here for the past few weeks, which means we are getting closer to getting out on DeWitt Family Field! We are hoping that the end of winter is near, as we spent this past weekend out on the turf. We couldn’t have asked for a better “last weekend before games” weekend! If you are in Orlando or joining us for games in Cali, please join us for a meal! There is a very welcoming group of YSB Parents who will gladly share our plans with you. Thank you for your continued support of Yale Softball! We look forward to keeping you informed and hope you enjoy this issue of Extra Innings! - The YSB Newsletter Crew

Bulldog Friends, We have had a solid three weeks of practice, and even a scrimmage this past Friday. We are about where we thought we would be – and our offense is ready to face some different pitching! With the new batting cages, we are leaps and bounds ahead of where we have been the past few years when it comes to our live at bats! The cages are located on the 5th floor in Payne Whitney, are 14’ x 55’, and allow us to hit live several times a week. As a reminder, these cages came about because YSB won the Drive For Elis fundraising contest last year! The $10,000 award was put to good use, along with some additional funds that the administration was able to secure for this project. We figured out that at this time last year we had only pitched & hit live three times – but so far we have already hit live nine times in the same amount of time. We also have had a few field upgrades – if you are able to make it to a game this season, you’ll notice a new windscreen, a custom shelving system, new dugout steps, and a gorgeous bat rack. If you come to a game, be sure to come down and check it out. The most exciting news has to do with the projected Field Hockey & Softball Facility! A very generous Field Hockey/Softball alumnae has donated $3 million to get the project started. I know our Development Office is working hard to find some additional funds for this groundbreaking project. If everything stays on track, the tentative date to break ground for this program changing building is the Fall of 2016. We will keep you up to date as more details are available. It is something you are going to want to be here to see when it is unveiled.
Sincerely,
Jen Goodwin
