Project Approval

This Charter approves the commencement of the construction of a sequence batch reactor treatment system for waste water produced by the engineering building at Athlone Institute of Technology, to cater for a maximum loading of 500 persons (250 p.e.). A project plan will be developed and submitted to the Project Sponsor for approval.

Commencement of project

activities will begin upon approval of the project plan and the resources to execute it by the Project Sponsor. Included in the project plan are to be a scope statement; schedule; cost estimate; budget; and provisions for scope, resource, schedule, communications, quality, risk, procurement, and stakeholder management as well as project control.

Project Deliverables

The purpose of the AIT waste water treatment system project is to treat waste from the campuses engineering building, which represents approximately 400 persons currently and with an expected increase to 500 persons in three to five years. This will act to significantly reduce the annual discharge to the municipal sewer. The project deliverables are outlined in table 1 below.

Deliverable

Description

Discharge reduction

Significant reduction in discharge flows from the institute to the municipal sewer system

Monetary savings

As a result of discharge reduction there will be a reduction in the annual cost incurred for the discharge of waste water

Environmental sustainability

Increase the environmental sustainability of the institute by onsite treatment of waste water

High grade effluent

Production of high grade effluent from the proposed treatment system
