LOVE POTION
Put the romance back in the wedding planning. Between dress fittings and compiling guest lists and creating seating charts, things can feel more like work project rather than planning a day filled with love and romance. So before you drown in a sea of spreadsheets, take some time to put the love back into the process. Dance it out Learn some choreographed moves for your first dance as newlyweds, or just brush up your skills to look smooth on the dancefloor. Loosen up, get close, laugh and just have some fun. If you’re nervous to put on your dancing shoes, take virtual lessons in the comfort of your own home.
Have a toast…or two Having trouble deciding on signature drinks or wine for the reception? Play bartender at home and create (and sample) some tasty concoctions. As you sip, take note of what you think your guests would enjoy most.
Get done up for date night Don’t let your hair or makeup trial go to waste. Get dolled up and then go out for a romantic dinner. Put on some fancy clothes and do it up right! If you’re feeling extra, maybe give that limo a test-ride, too!
Write your vows…together! You don’t have to share every word with each other, but if you’re having trouble getting started, sit down and put pen to paper together. Enjoy reminiscing about your life together and come up with sentimental words to exchange at the altar. After you create your joint vows, take some time on your own to add your thoughts that will be a surprise during the ceremony.
Have your cake and eat it, too
Try out the honeymoon suite
Turn your cake tasting into a romantic evening. Rather than nibbling on desserts at a bakery, order some samples from your cake designer/bakery and bring them home. Light some candles, pour some wine and have a taste test. You’re checking an item off your to-do list, while enjoying some starry-eyed time together. Your catering company might offer an at-home tasting, too. Doesn’t hurt to ask!
If you’ll be spending the night at a hotel after the wedding, get away for a night, pre-wedding. Even if the hotel is in your own city, it will still feel like a mini vacation. Ok, maybe staying in the honeymoon suite is a bit much, but you can opt for another room, and just escape for a night. If you’re booking several rooms for out-of-town guests, the hotel might toss in a free night for you, or maybe an on-the-house spa treatment.

For one night, even for just a few hours, do not speak about the wedding. Focus on one another and the other things going on in your lives. While the wedding is clearly top of mind, it can be stressful if that’s the only topic of conversation. This can be a lot harder than it sounds! So distract yourselves with some fun. Have a games night, go to the movies, take in a hockey or baseball game – do something that forces you to focus on something other than the wedding.

WE ASKED THE EXPERTS
Karen Bussen
A D V I C E F R O M A W E D D I N G A N D PA R T Y G U R U Karen Bussen is an internationally known party guru with a roster of private clients from the worlds of business, society and entertainment. As entertaining expert and exclusive designer for Weddings by Palladium, she believes in giving couples a palette of fabulous possibilities and all the flexibility they want to tell their own unique love stories in their own way.
TB: In your opinion, what are some of the most romantic destinations in the Caribbean, and why?
KB: This is a tough question because there are so many romantic options in the Caribbean. Jamaica has such a sultry, laid-back elegance for couples, for example, while Mexico has so many sides to it--from the lush eco-friendly cocoon of Riviera Maya and Tulum to the up-to-the-minute sexiness of Costa Mujeres. St. Barths is there for the luxury set, and the Dominican Republic has the most beautiful turquoise waters. For me, the important thing for each couple is to think about what’s right for their love story, and that can include what each destination offers overall – food, fun, nature, activities, etc.
TB: How can a couple “level-up” the romance in their wedding?
KB: Romance is all about thoughtfulness that still feels spontaneous. For a sporty couple, it can be choosing a destination that offers outdoor activities like a pre-wedding sunset sail on a catamaran. For another couple it might be a special room with a view and a private outdoor shower. Adding experiences is a great way to bump up the romance. At Weddings by Palladium we’ve spent a lot of time creating new romantic experiences to let couples choose what speaks to them. In Riviera Maya, for example, we have a beautiful and magical cenote – an organic body of water that is thought to connect the spirit world to the “real” world. We’ve created an experience where a Mayan shaman can bless the couple on the site of this ethereal place, bringing their

From surprise proposals, to glamorous receptions and romantic honeymoons– it’s all possible with Weddings by Palladium and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!
connection to their wedding destination to life in a truly intimate way. For those who want to share the happiness of their romance with Instagram-worthy photos, we’ve designed a Twilight Photoshoot and Dinner for Two. This experience pairs the couple with a professional photographer in the magic hour just before sunset in some amazing natural settings, then lets them find themselves at a beautifully set table for two for a romantic dinner next to the sea.
TB: What would you say to a person who is on the fence about a destination wedding? What are the benefits?
KB: Benefits of a destination wedding include the time and space to celebrate your wedding over multiple days and events, plus an unforgettable spot to exchange vows and dance the night away under the stars. An all-inclusive resort can also be truly budget friendly for guests and the couple. In my work with Weddings by Palladium we’ve created lots of options to help couples personalize to create their perfect wedding vision. The key to feeling great about a destination celebration is to do your research and make sure you feel comfortable with your on site planners. I recommend taking a quick weekend trip if you can to do a site inspection and look at your options in person. We love to meet our couples before the wedding date, to get to know them a bit, and show them around! If you can’t travel before the wedding, no worries. Just make a list of any questions that concern you and make sure the resort’s team answers them patiently and thoroughly. Sometimes couples are worried about travel arrangements for family and friends and price points and details for different room categories, since some guests will want an ocean view and others may need family-friendly rooms for example. But a good resort will offer a variety of choices to suit your group. Read reviews and join online forums to ask questions of previous couples. They can be a great source of tips and advice to ease your mind as you plan. And your on site planner should walk you through every step of the way and help you feel great about all the details. TB: What are some things to keep in mind when planning a wedding on a beach?
KB: This may seem obvious, but the most important thing to consider is the elements. On a sunny beach, think about ways to offer shade to guests who need it and bonus points for checking the angle of the sun at your ceremony time (and in your season) to make sure
you won’t be blinding your guests while you say your I dos! For your outdoor reception, avoid tall or fragile decor that might get picked up by a gust of tropical wind. And be thoughtful to any guests who might have mobility issues on the sand. Lighting is key at night on the beach, so make sure you know how paths and your party space will be illuminated once the moon rises. For bridal party pictures at the hottest point of the day, have cool refreshments and some folding chairs on hand just in case. TB: What trends do you see emerging for 2022 destination weddings?
KB: A lot of couples who will tie the knot in 2022 have been postponing their weddings due to the pandemic, and they are now ready to party! They’ve waited, they’ve saved, they’ve made sacrifices, and now they are going to do it up. We’re seeing couples add extra Karen Bussen Wedding Collection events like a Private Beach Bash welcome party or a post-wedding brunch, and there’s no skimping on decorative elements like reception flowers and top-shelf signature cocktails. Local elements are more in demand than ever, with couples wanting to honour the flavours and elements of their chosen destination in real and organic ways. Colours are lush and bold, with plenty of textural greens or soft, modern takes on the classic wedding palette of whites and creams. Boho vibes are still super hot, and I see those continuing to influence wedding trends this year. Food is front and centre, with an emphasis on authenticity, appealing presentations, food and drink stations, and general deliciousness! When it comes to honeymoons, what are the must-haves at an all-inclusive resort?
KB: Modern couples want a resort that embraces both the natural environment and the culture of their chosen honeymoon destination. They want to experience local flavours and details in a way that feels real and special at the same time. The biggest trend is toward a balance of luxury experiences – amazing spa treatments and quality dining options, for example – with upgraded details like a swim-up pool or included water sports and outdoor activities. In-room goodies are also always a delight, as is great room service (or even little things like our Royal Suites popcorn delivery for movie lovers). It’s that combination of in-room comfort, fun in the sun, and a reason to get dressed up for dinner!

Your honeymoon should be different than any other trip you’ve taken. This is the time to celebrate you and your love! Some extra splurges might set the proper tone for an epic vacay.
14 PALLADIUMWEDDINGS.COM | The Romance Guide
Start it off right! From the get-go, set the tone for your honeymoon. This is your time and you deserve to be spoiled. And that means heading to the airport in style with a limo. You won’t have to worry about driving, you can enjoy the ride and you won’t annoy family members when you ask for a dropoff/pick-up. Next, make your airport experience as enjoyable as possible. Inquire about lounge access, early check-in and head-of-the line perks. Travel can be frustrating, so aim to make it as easy as possible. And while you’re at it, it wouldn’t hurt to ask about first class upgrades. At the destination side of things, arrange for a transfer to your resort or hotel. Often will all-inclusive packages, busses or vans are provided to the property, but you can book something personally. Rather than a crowded bus, how about a private convertible with the top down?
guest level, you often have access to more restaurants, better alcohol, private pool areas and other perks – well worth it. When it comes to off-property adventure, go big. Do the hot air balloon trip or swim with sharks. Now is the time to make core memories.
Get personal Ask the concierge at your hotel if private excursions are possible. Rather than going with a group, there might be opportunities for private boat tours, snorkelling trips or other outings. This will allow you to spend time one-on-one. Your resort or hotel may also organize private beach picnics, evening bonfires and dinners under the stars. Don’t forget to hit the spa. Often when people travel the spa is considered an extravagance and skip it – well now is the time to spoil yourself. Have a couples massage on the beach to release all that post-wedding stress.
Upgrade all the things!
Be still
A typical trip calls for a typical room, but this this your honeymoon. Consider upgrading to ocean-view accommodations, the honeymoon suite, a swim-out room, an over-the-water bungalow or the prestige level/club level. When you upgrade your
Don’t feel the pressure to do everything. If you want to sleep until noon, do it! Order room service and indulge in breakfast in bed, followed by a soak in the jacuzzi with some Champagne in your hand. Do things on your own time and treat yourself.

Endless Love 6 TIPS FOR PLANNING THE MOST ROMANTIC WEDDING DAY
If you want your day to be all about the emotion, there are many ways to level up the love factor.
1 First look Gone are the days of not seeing the bride before she walks down the aisle. Instead, meet before the ceremony for the first look. You’ll be able to be more open and emotional when you see each other. Those are a few moments you will never forget.
2 Love notes Begin the day writing your partner a love note and add it to a special gift. Have a friend or family member deliver your message as you’re both getting ready for the day. Find somewhere private and read the letters. It will help get you in the proper mindset for the day ahead.
3 Bouquet giveaway Rather than tossing the bouquet, give your flowers to the couple who has been married the longest, and make their night romantic!
16 PALLADIUMWEDDINGS.COM | The Romance Guide
4 Private vows After the first look, consider exchanging vows with one another, in private. Of course, during the ceremony, you will also say I do, but these vows can be more personal and intimate. Without the eyes of 100 guests upon you, you’ll be able to bawl like a baby, hold hands, hug, kiss, and appreciate each other’s words just a little bit more.
5 Traditional flowers Trendy floral arrangements are beautiful, but sometimes the classics can be more romantic. Roses are the traditional flower of love, so flood your décor with the fragrant blooms. Remember that red represents passion and love, white represents hope and new beginnings and light pink represents joy and happiness – all things you’ll want for your married life!
6 Evening celebration Host your wedding (ceremony and all) in the evening. This is especially romantic if you have an outdoor ceremony, under the stars. Don’t forget the mood lighting! Candles make everything seem like a scene from a romantic movie, but they can be tricky – sometimes they won’t stay lit and your venue may not even allow candles (fire hazard). That’s where batterypowered candles come into play. The good ones even flicker like the real deal. The nighttime festivities can be capped off with some fireworks and sparklers.

CARIBBEAN NUPTIALS FROM BEACH TO BALLROOM Plan an unforgettable tropical wedding with Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts and TRS Hotels
The most beautiful beaches in the world await couples planning a Caribbean destination wedding at the all-inclusive Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts and TRS Hotels in Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic, where renowned New York wedding and event planner Karen Bussen can help plan toes-in-the-sand nuptials, a custom-themed ballroom bash, or any type of celebration couples desire. A wedding coordinator at each resort works with couples to ensure that every element of their destination wedding lives up to their personal vision, from food and music to décor and location, to the wedding day itself. Designed by Bussen, the Weddings by Palladium collection features four distinct wedding packages. The Bliss in Bloom wedding theme uses fragrant roses and flowing curtains to add vintage elegance to the ceremony and reception. Hanging ivy and white or fuchsia dendrobium orchids define a dreamy Evermore wedding, with birdcages filled with flowers serving as centerpieces on every table. The Timeless theme pairs lilies and roses with pearls and crystals to create a wedding day sparkling with love, plus a touch of bling. And for a classic Caribbean beach wedding, the Waves of Love theme combines starfish and seashell décor with sheer curtains unfurling in the ocean breeze, with the path to the altar lined with beach pails filled with baby’s breath.
In addition to the eternal beauty of a sunset ceremony on the beach, “fabulously flexible” Weddings by Palladium venue options include resort wedding chapels, gardens, and seaside terraces. A beach ceremony at the TRS Coral Hotel located in Costa Mujeres, Mexico, for example, can include up to 300 guests, with vows exchanged under a shady pergola with azure Caribbean waves gently lapping behind. For the best of both worlds, the resort’s Poseidon reception room combines the comfort of an indoor event with stunning views of the coast and sea through floor-to-ceiling windows. Couples can also go all-out with a stylish ballroom reception accommodating up to 700 guests. Similarly unique and varied wedding venues are available at TRS Yucatan Hotel located in Riviera Maya and TRS Cap Cana Hotel and TRS Turquesa Hotel located in the Dominican Republic, as well as the Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts located in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Ceremonies are easily tailored to the needs of same-sex couples, and Weddings by Palladium also has special South Asian wedding packages that include traditional mehndi and sangeet parties. Every one of the adults-only TRS Hotels is paired with a family friendly Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts property, so the couple can

relax in romantic serenity while still offering guests the option of bringing children to celebrate their lifetime of love. Destination weddings at Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts and TRS Hotels don’t begin and end on the wedding day. With the Weddings by Palladium collection, your entire resort stay becomes part of the celebration, starting with special room rates and upgrades for the couple continuing with private check-in, group dinner reservations at each resort’s multiple restaurants, nightly turn-down service, and access to the hydrotherapy area at the Zentropia Palladium Spa & Wellness center. Breakfast in bed, a sparkling toast after the ceremony, and a unique wedding gift courtesy of your hosts help make a Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts and TRS Hotels wedding indelible from beginning to end. For more lasting memories, couples can schedule a twilight photo shoot, an afternoon escape for a catered picnic, or a moonlight dinner for two during their stay. Wedding guests, meanwhile, can enjoy the world-class hospitality of a Grand Palladium Hotels & Resorts and TRS Hotels stay, which includes multiple all-inclusive dining options, endless activities and entertainment, and immersive relaxation at the spa, in the pool, or on the beach.

Take me away!
6 R O M A N T I C H O N E Y M O O N D E S T I N AT I O N S T O E X P L O R E Your honeymoon is meant to do a couple things – give you some downtime after the stress of the wedding and provide a way to relax and get romantic as newlyweds. If you want to focus on that second part, here are some of the most romantic places to honeymoon.
Paris They don’t call it the City of Love for nothing. Just saying the word “Paris” conjures up images of sipping wine near the Eiffel Tower and riding bicycles with baguettes in the basket. Sure, it seems like a cliché, but Paris truly is the place for romance. Take a cruise on the Seine, have a picnic under the Eifel Tower and indulge in all the delicious, rich desserts the city has to offer, or simply take an evening stroll around the city, hand-in-hand. The art, the wine, the food – it’s a city of culture and creativity that all speaks to the heart.
20 PALLADIUMWEDDINGS.COM | The Romance Guide
Lake Como, Italy All the celebrities get married there, so it has to be romantic, right? Just think about the dreamy boat rides, the mouthwatering pasta dishes, and the wine, my goodness, the wine. Explore each town and village, and fantasize over the lakefront villas. Take a walk down Lover’s Lane and share a gelato. Hop on a Vespa and tour around the region or ride The Funicolare, a cable car in Brunate that reveals views from 700m above the Como region.
Canada Yes, you read that right. Canada, from coast to coast, has so much to offer when it comes to romance. Go skiing or snowboarding in Whister or Mont Tremlant. Walk the streets of Old Quebec or Old Montreal and indulge in the European vibes. Get away from it all and visit the remote Fogo Island in Newfoundland and Labrador. Have your mind blown by Lake Louise in Banff National Park in Alberta. Hit up the “honeymoon capital of the world” and spend some time in Niagara Falls, before heading to Toronto. Or have a once-in-a-lifetime experience watching the Northern Lights in the Northwest Territories. There is so much to do in our own backyard!
Anyone up for a coast-to-coast roadtrip?

Turks and Caicos The white sand in Turks and Caicos was made for romantic walks on the beach. The clear blue waters are perfect for snorkelling and spotting conch shells, nurse sharks and other underwater creatures. The island (actually, it’s about 40 Islands) is ultra private and quiet. It’s ideal for a couple who wants some romantic alone time.
Hawaii
Saint Lucia
Back in the day, Hawaii was the go-to for honeymoons. Everyone went there. And now it’s easy to see why. Made up of eight major islands (and some smaller ones, too), Hawaii has something for every travel personality. For a honeymoon though, Maui is your best bet. There are several gorgeous beaches to choose from if you want to relax on the sand. Or, take a day trip with the Road To Hana tour, a 100-km drive that takes you up winding roads with breathtaking views, plus you can visit a blacksand beach, which is truly remarkable. And for next-level romance, take in the sunrise at the summit of Mount Haleakala – the perfect excuse for a cuddle!
This island was designed for the adventurous nature lover. Hike through the rain forest, sail past the gorgeous Pitons (mountains) at sunset or take in the views at the lighthouse in Soufriëre. Saint Lucia has incredible vacation properties to choose from, like Coconut Bay Resort & Spa (set on 85 acres of pristine land) or Ladera Resort, which has stunning views of the Pitons, plus outdoor showers and private plunge pools.
There’s nothing like sharing an adventure together.
