S
ince embarking on a new phase of ambitious developments, Al Areen Palace & Spa, has been welcoming a steady stream of guests to its well-appointed villas, dining outlets and spa facilities. The property has continuously undergone several upgrades, refurbishments and new additions to its various services. In return, the hotel has been attracting very positive feedback combined with increased growth for family segment and a steady flow of returning clients, who in return can benefit by earning points from the Ahlan Rewards program. In operation for the past eight years, it has created a niche for luxury, comfort and privacy; a complete destination for the entire family. With the New Year ahead, the hotel is now looking forward to offering more services, facilities and exclusive offers to all its discerning guests. General Manager, Pierre Vasseur, shares with us his vision and insight into ongoing developments and future projects.
What has been most significant in last year’s development process? When the first phase of the property upgrading was launched, our main goal was to make sure that our guests will continue to enjoy the luxury facilities we offer. From that time on, one by one the villas are being refurbished, repainted, and maintained. Otherwise, we would not be able to accommodate the
increasing demand from the Market. Amongst many other things, the property has also seen positive changes in its environment and facilities, such as the scenic landscaping, the re-opening of the Vitality Pool. In addition the newly constructed road, evening lights (providing high convenience to all our guests), the beautiful night lights that decorate our main façade and the newest fountains around the Resort.

What has been the most favourable feature of the hotel? In the first place, the credit goes to the entire Al Areen team who tirelessly strive to provide all our guests with the most satisfying stay. Secondly, given its tranquil environment and luxurious elegance, the resort provides an overall sensory retreat — from the comfort of your very own villa or a sumptuous dining offer, to a blissful haven of relaxation at our award winning spa. There is no doubt that Al Areen Palace & Spa sets itself apart.
What can guests look forward to in the coming months? Our dining offers are geared towards a busy and exciting year. Starting on the romantic month of February, welcomes couples, families and friends at Saffron, for the finest Khaleeji fusion cuisine, and to sumptuous East Asian fare at Keizo. Both venues offer exquisite fine dining and special packages for this joyous celebration, like Mother’s day. Furthermore, we have recently created three new gazebos for intimate dining at Keizo Al Areen islands, complete with attractive decorations, personal Butler service, and which can be tailor-made for any special occasion you wish to celebrate. In addition, guests can also look forward to creative additions in our menu selections. For dessert lovers, select from freshly made cakes and pastries, along with exquisite chocolate collections from our very own brand, Le Palais du Chocolat. Of course, all this feasting will have to be balanced out with a trip to our fully equipped health club and wellness centre. Don’t miss our special gym membership offer, or better yet, guests can avail themselves of our special fitness programme packages, complete with professional trainer. A great boost to attain your fitness goals!

Hotel Insider The current weather also provides the perfect setting for wedding events at Al Areen Palace. With charming landscape and scenery, our outdoor venues provide a fresh take on the traditional ballroom set-up; a lover’s canvas that can be custom themed and crafted to make wedding memories last forever. Furthermore, this year’s highlights also include Al Areen Palace outdoor catering services. Though only introduced last year, the catering service now extends all its dining offers at the convenience of one’s location, event or celebration.
22 www.alareenpalace.com
Whether an elaborate or intimate set-up, we provide full tailormade services and facilities on par with 5 star services.
What are the hotel’s key markets and what new markets would you like to tap into? With the hospitality and leisure industry regaining its balance in the region, our markets from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have generally increased. Our main aim is to continue
growth in these markets, while simultaneously concentrating on the Saudi family, especially as it is the easiest segment to reach from Bahrain. Also, due to the great potential from our highly acclaimed dining and spa offers, there is rising demand to increase our share in the Bahraini clientele, as more and more locals and residents seek a complete destination venue. A “staycation” that offers a relaxing and stress-free atmosphere.
Any plans for new expansions and developments? Al Areen Palace and Spa will continue to move to its next phase of development and creative upgrading. It is also our goal to further elevate the service standards that we offer. This is to be achieved through the management’s effort in providing the team with efficient in-house training, and through
official courses provided through several training companies. Moreover, an ambitious undertaking to further expand and be at par with world-class spa providers is now being planned for our spa facilities.
Finally, as General Manager what is your vision for the property? Having worked at Al Areen Palace & Spa for a year now, I firmly believe that there is indeed great potential waiting
to be tapped. With the owners and management’s support, the transformational refurbishment, combined with diverse offerings, innovations and commitment in delivering an extraordinary level of service, will definitely redefine Al Areen Palace & Spa as one of the leading luxury hotels in the region. In addition, the property is designed for one’s personal serenity physically and holistically. Once served this purpose, it is my desire to encourage guests to pass on their good experiences, which will then develop a positive reputation in the market.

Front Office “Heart of the hotel for every guest request Varsha Bhatia Front Office Manager
Tell us a little about yourself, career background and general responsibilities as front office manager? Hailing from the Northern part of India, my life has been spent in the Middle East where I was educated in Dubai and Bahrain. Personally speaking, I love Middle Eastern culture, as it is very similar to my own native e that values the love of family, tradition and roots. A heady combination that sets the way of life for me! I have been working in the hospitality industry for the last 18 years. In time, I successfully managed to work my way up the career ladder from different positions to where I am today. Furthermore, I have been privileged to work with several major hotel chains like the Sheraton, Hilton and for the longest stint with The RitzCarlton. Hospitality has become a way of life; the smiles, the service, the can-do attitude. People are my passion. An extroverted person by

default, I find it very easy to make new friends in a short matter of time. I firmly believe that the success in achieving this lays in the minutest details. At the end of the day people will not really remember where they have been, as much as they remember how you make them feel. The greatest part of hospitality in my view is that I can be a receptionist, manager, friend, guide, or a leader‌ all in one day. As front office manager my core responsibility lies towards my guests, owners, employees, and community resulting to a productive revenue. Front of house starts from the moment the guest makes that first call to the hotel to book
an event, a villa, or any other facility and gets connected to the main switchboard! The experience begins here.
What does Front of House consist, their key areas and services involved? Front of house consists of the following: Switchboard & Call Centre – where guest calls are received and attended to. Valet Parking – provides the first impression of the hotel Bell Desk – takes care of all guest transportation and luggage requirements Front Desk – serves as the heart of the hotel that receives, processes, and handles every guest request Concierge – provides assistance to guests from booking a boat trip to making dining recommendations Guest Relations – works to provide a top quality experience for guests Transport & Limousine Service – help guests travel in elegance and style Furthermore, as front office manager, my main aim is to enhance guest experience in every way possible with the help and support of my team members. Staff training and development is key, therefore I totally believe that
an engaged and passionate employee makes an involved and loyal guest. Employee engagement comes from providing individuals with the knowledge and tools required to accomplish their jobs effectively, empowering them to positively handle challenges. cCnstantly encouraging and motivating them being a friend,as well as a leader. Owner satisfaction is also a key area. This requires the department to be wellorganized with standard operating procedures; planning the successful execution of events and ensuring guest loyalty. Giving back to the community is another valuable service
we perform. I achieve this by developing my local staff members and making them future leaders in the industry. Supporting environmental and charity cause are other examples of our community involvement. That said, revenue generation is ultimately the most important process. I need to ensure, as front of house team leader that we are maximizing all selling opportunities with guests and maintaining proper control over rates. In addition, building and reinforcing positive guest relationships to develop and maintain loyalty is equally essential. Our exclusive ‘Ahlan Rewards’ loyalty program is a perfect example.

the plush, opulent Arabian interior together with the soft background music will delight your senses and relax your mind. Complimentary home-made chocolates, Arabic coffee, and delicious dates await you in the lobby, along with more superior service and hospitality from our guest relations and front desk staff. After check-in, a buggy ride will transport you through the Resort to your villa, where a guest relations staff member will guide you

Milk Bath The ‘Al Areen Spa Milk Bath’ is a truly unique beauty indulgence. An age-old method to soften and moisturise skin, this bath is taken with milk instead of water. Scents such as lavender, honey, and essential oils are added to dissolve the proteins that hold together dead skin cells. A milk bath helps to hydrate and smooth rough, flaky skin where lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid present in milk, helps loosen the bonds that hold old, dead cells to the surface of the skin. Once these scaly dead cells are removed, your skin feels softer and looks brighter. For clients with irritated skin, or those avoiding abrasive exfoliation, a milk bath can soothe, calm and gently exfoliate the skin. The proteins whey and casein found in milk, together with the amino acids, lactic acid and vitamins A, D and E, all work to help reduce red and itchy skin. Soaking in a milk bath also helps with some chronic conditions such as eczema; temporary issues such as sunburn or poison oak irritation; or, simply to relieve dry, itchy skin. Oatmeal can be added to the bath to boost the soothing effects of the treatment.

2 Arad Fort Arad Fort is a 15th century fort in Arad built in a typical Arab style. 5 Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort Standing on a low escarpment overlooking the valley between East and West Riffa, the fort held an ideal strategic position during the 18th century. In more recent times, it was used as a private dwelling, but it has now been restored and is open to the public. A section in Arabic calligraphy, including a beautiful display of illuminated Qur’an and other religious documents, is breathtaking, and course of visit would not be complete without viewing the traditional trades and crafts which have been cleverly displayed in a reconstruction of a typical suq of the 1930s.
6 Al-Jasra House The house was built by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa in 1907, and was the birthplace of the late Amir in July 1933. When the family moved to Riffa later in the 1930s the building fell into disrepair, but was restored in 1986 and is now open to the public.
7 Dilmun Burial Mounds The Dilmun Burial Mounds is a necropolis dating back to the Dilmun era. A Danish group excavating what they considered a city of the Bronze Age came across artifacts dating back to around 4,100 - 3,700 BCE within the tumuli.

Transmission has been guaranteed by many symbols that can be found in weaving (the exclusive province of Berber women), jewelry, wickerwork, pottery, tattoos,
