CHAPTER 1 [1-55 ]

Duisburg, our first stop in our destination to get to the river, located in the heart of the city. The city is very quaint, yet not unique at first sight. The exit from the central railway station is not particularly flattering to the city itself. In the main avenue, on the way to the river, I ran into two magnificent structures that caught my eye which made me wonder. The first was a huge ladder made of gold-plated metal tubes. I could not resist, I had to see what this hovering structure was with my very own eyes, it felt so misplaced in such a balanced city. At first glance, I thought of Jacob's ladder described in the Torah and thought immediately that the ladder was coming out of a church.To my great surprise, the ladder came out of an empty shopping center with an futile guard, a huge space with a high glass ceiling and enormous glass doors. In the front entrance you can touch the bulky legs of the ladder, and through the glass ceiling you can see the mass of this golden element climbing into the sky. Down the road, I encountered a phenomenon that I have already recognized in other cities in Germany. The strong presence of the building of the Deutsche Bank whose immediately followed by a rival building of the bank Commerzbank, reminds me of the hidden capitalism in Germany. A very lucid country with gender equality and acceptance of foreigners. The constitutional status, which I personally appreciate very much,still feels as if Capitalism floats in secret. I follow the cathedral and come across a huge, alienated sculpture that rotates on an axis in the heart of a simple fountain. A colorful and plump bird awakens the gloomy, gunmetal sky. Dull lit streets of what normally feels to be

a gray colored Germany year round.It sometimes feels as if someone is trying to bring a spark of vibrancy into a place of regularity.

Further down the road, we arrive at the heart of the city, the Rhine River. As I continue traveling north I stumble upon a beautifully lit cathedral in where I discover a raw, rough, looking structure made of terracotta bricks that drew my attention to its enticing beauty. I ask myself what is this architectural animal doing in the middle of a city, abandoned from society without any presence of life. Just a huge Pentagon that is competing with the structural beauty of the golden ladder which happens to be on the avenue with the cathedral that once was the city's tallest and most advanced architectural structure of its time. It seems to me as if these structures represent another time, and is extremely intriguing to see how in time so much has advanced. As I approach, I discover that I am entering a former port... I'm right on the border of where the water hugs the shore. I see cranes in motion and huge metal storage containers that made me wonder where the line between industry and residence was and what happened here before. I'm used to having an industrial zone separated from the city's residential area, which what I've seen, is usually found in the lower income residential areas. *But where did the entire work industry go? There are a 228

lot of abandoned factories here, but the number of people has grown in the world, in general and in the city.

Could it be that the polluting industry simply made a transfer to China?

A metal factory in the backyard‌ We arrived at a youth hostel full of children... noisy and full of compulsive energies. We dropped our things off and decided to go sight seeing. In fact, behind us is a giant metal monster, full of rust and beauty. From below, you can see how the metal has weathered over time, a powerful sense of human touch, fascinating, a collage of browns and burnt orange. There are a vast array of different sized pipes, screws and old industrial clocks with tremendous pistons that make them shed oils and as they are functioning. Brown hues that have been created until you reach the top of the clock.

Looking at my surroundings, a play of confusion between the contrast of the blue sky, green fields and white clouds, and the landscape of a heavy industry that looks like a wall is preventing me from seeing the main artery and the story of this place-the Rhine. I suddenly realize that he is united in my eye with the clouds and looks like a cloud himself... just standing there, I became baffled. I see green... But this is unnatural. I see a rough industry.

But she manages to fit in with the combination of the blue sky and soothing clouds. Is it a good or bad story?

While in crossing the river... A moment ago I passed a nuclear church and now I feel as if I am in a calm, pastoral river filled with green, running water and a blue skies. With one last glance I realize that the factories sure presence in the land. There is still a sense of peace, as if these two opposing sides have been here for years, even after a big quarrel and now with the age of reconciliation.*

CHAPTER 4 [98–133 ] I'm being called. I went out to gather my thoughts, packed my things up quickly and continue on route.

stands in front of me as the membrane divides us between urban space and nature. It seemed as if they were two spaces that belonged together. A quick stop in front of a church in the town and then continued West. Before moving away from the urban area, I came upon a railway crossing, I thought to myself how ironic it was that it was simply a continuation of the river itself, as if somebody replaced the water for the railways. The smell of vegetation is emitted into the air, here, the sight of freedom is endless. Luckily the weather was great, for now, I began to feel as if the rain was waiting around the corner. The Rhine to my right and the water flow being cycled, heavy cargo ships make it difficult to identify the direction of water. The logos of the companies on transport containers look like moving billboards in the middle of this green serenity. The advertising of these companies were made so evident to me, the stimulus passed. With the Rhine on my right and pastoral view on the left I was not expecting to get a glimpse upon what was a small, hidden village. My curiosity strayed me from my path. With my mind relaxed, positive thoughts soon approached me.

There seems to be balance that is very meaningful in the culture here. I was reminded how much I appreciated the lack of skyscrapers. The dispersed population here makes more sense to me than that of the opposing “population concentrationâ€? here. Concentration, I do not even want to start thinking about the inequalities that come along with that word. Things like political radicalization and exacerbation of cultural social and political gaps‌ My mind is distracted, I recognize from afar, giant, gray concrete casting. Doesn't feel necessary despite my 231

lack of experience in building bridges. It reminds us of the ridiculous tensions between the Russians and Germans. There are so many similar to this rough bridge that looks like something from brutalism and constructivism. The giant and alienated image in the center of the composition, it focuses its attention on the composition itself. So I count another alien architect. While passing under the concrete bridge, I begin to look around, saving this beautiful image in my head knowing that this will be my last time here. Between new and old… old railway track seem as if they were eaten by wild stands parallel to the concrete bridge, precursor the change in Germany. Side thoughts: Agricultural fields along the road connecting me with the history from which I come raise questions that I still haven't been able to give myself answers… What do European countries have with this country? Why are they talking about us in the news? Why about our problems? Why do they “care” so much? Disturbing… but very intriguing me more than it annoys me…

CHAPTER 5 [134–163 ] Xanten, the old city. Lying exhausted on the green lawn, overhead a windmill built of red bricks reminds me that I am in Germany. I gathered my strength and went to buy some local pastries to snack on. On the first bite - maybe also because of hunger, the texture and color of the pastry took me back to Hebron, Israel. 2008, 4:30 in the morning, depart two armoured jeeps toward the checkpoint, and on the way stopping to smell the bread at a bakery that was under the post.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but we still asked to buy some warm bread every chance we got. I will never forget the taste of bread from unbleached and unfiltered flour… in all of the crap that we were dealing with, that smell for me was the highlight of my day. The human desire for something is simple in a world of “pain” and grinding down in a “short” time of my life.

I started looking for more clues in the story here. Using the basic rule - going to the Church. I went to ask the postcard vendor in the church what is the connection between the Rhine and this place, after all it is pretty far from the city. In surprise, she says “It does not connect to the river”… Of course I begin questioning how have they settled here? A misunderstanding between physical and historic connection… she said that there was a connection in the past and I should go see for myself at the museum that lies on the edge of town. While exiting the church, I encountered three crucified figures. And I wonder…

How does the community feel about having their children see a figure of bleeding Christ from such an early on age? I don't really know, because I was in churches by the age of eight, it’s not that I remember, what I do remember was that I was not terrified the first time that I saw Jesus…

Towards the edge of town, the environment is completely different from the weathered, red bricks in the old city.

CHAPTER 6 [164–175 ]

CHAPTER 7 [176–205 ] The red bridge sits behind us on the way to the Netherlands. This is just another classic incident of confused reality; I can assume that in most cultures there is the expression "Do not look at the jug, rather what it contains" and judging by myself, why do I always have to see the sides of everything? "When it is beautiful it is beautiful, leave it now whether or not there was a dirty story behind it." is that so?

I guess that I will continue on my own path, and I will laugh every time that I get to these points in my life.

There is such a different perception between us about boundaries and borders. That's it! I'm locked inside the riding, waiting to reach the border between these countries... and nothing, distracted, I hear "did you see? CHAPTER 8 [206–224 ] Doesburg, Netherlands, we arrived exactly on time for lunch. My ego slightly increases along with pride too. I laugh to myself again how we humans manage to forget what we said half an hour before. We change everything at once to be happy and proud that we have reached our goal in the end. An amusing and uncontrollable trait.

Walking into the restaurant like winners yet completely wet; luckily the restaurant was packed, so they put us in a private room. The ultimate finale. Now, the difficult part, trying to find food that is palatable. The traditions from where I come from, all of the rules about food.

Again I try to explain what I cannot eat out of respect to my past and not for religious reasons, most of the times it's not working, it usually doesn't work. "When in Rome do as the Romans do" or at least try - It's the same reason, I don't see any reason why a Jewish or Muslim man 237

wearing something that distinguishes them differently from their environment. I decided to try the food, I ate what they gave me slowly. We wander around in the town, very touristy.It was a pleasant feeling knowing that there's not a big difference between cultures; luckily that has the red asphalt. We ride another three kilometers to our destination. On the arrival to our villa we are greeted by a very charming, young man. Beautiful place by the river every, perfectly organized and tidied, the right place to finish our journey. Thoughts pouring through my mind again, it feels like the same type of luxury you receive while entering a luxurious palace or church. How and where did the money come from? Has someone gotten hurt for it? What is the history of this place? My thoughts are not necessarily coming from a negative outlook, just trying to understand the sufficient familiarity with the history of the continent. From criticism and hoping to be discovered in a positive manner will help me to appreciate the place five times more. We go upstairs to choose rooms, and some kind of an excessive game of manners has begun, but it's better that way... tea time and then a ride to the nearest supermarket. We buy local food and wine which later on will suffice a deep conversation. This time I'm not taking any chances and buy some unhealthy fast-food... evening after a good warm shower in a beautiful rich villa, We gather around the table to taste the Dutch cheeses and snacks... Slowly, people dispersed to their rooms, and we stay to talk about what design is in its purpose and whether we are designers at all? Is there something beyond that?Many things have been said that will ensure that such conversations will be held again in the future.

‫אני רגיל שאזור תעשייה עליו להיות מופרד מאזור המגורים בעיר ולא רק‪ ,‬עליו גם‬ ‫להיות בשולי העיר‪ ,‬באזורים הזולים והנידחים*‪...‬‬

‫** זו פעם ראשונה שאני באמת מצליח‬ ‫להבין על מה דיברה המורה בכיתה‬ ‫ט׳ על המהפכה התעשייתית‪ .‬פעם‬ ‫ראשונה שאני מצליח להבין מה גודל‬ ‫הדבר היה בעבר‪.‬‬

‫פרק ‪ ]56-79 [ 2‬מפעל מתכת בחצר האחורית‪ ,‬הגענו לאכסנית נוער מלאה‬ ‫בילדים… רועש ומלא אנרגיות חיוביות‪ ,‬הנחנו את הדברים ויצאנו להליכה באזור‪.‬‬ ‫מאחורינו גיליתי מפלצת מתכת ענקית‪ ,‬מלאת חלודה ויפיפייה להפליא‪ .‬מלמטה‬ ‫רואים רק מתכת וחלודה שמעניקה תחושה עוצמתית של מגע יד אדם‪ .‬הכל בגווני‬ ‫חום מרתקים ועמוקים… מצינורות בעוביים שונים‪ ,‬ברגים בכל הגדלים‪ ,‬שעונים‬ ‫תעשייתיים ישנים ועד בוכנות ענק שעושות חשק לשפוך עליהם שמן ולראות‬ ‫איך כל המפלצת היפה הזו עובדת… אנחנו מטפסים במעלה המדרגות ונדהמים‬ ‫מגוונים החומים שהחלודה יצרה מגיעים לראש החיה… ניתן להשקיף ממנו על כל‬ ‫הסביבה‪ ,‬מחזה של בלבול המשטחים הירוקים‪ ,‬השמיים הכחולים והעננים הלבנים‪,‬‬ ‫אל מול אגרסיביות המפעל‪ ,‬רקיע של קו מתכת תעשייתית שלרגע נראית כמו‬ ‫חומה שמונעת ממני לראות את העורק המרכזי והסיפור של כל המקום הזה ‪ -‬נהר‬ ‫הריין‪ .‬פתאום אני קולט שהפיח מתמזג לי בעין עם העננים ונראה כמו ענן בעצמו…‬ ‫לעמוד שם היה מבלבל‪.‬‬ ‫אני רואה ירוק‪ ,‬אבל הוא לא טבעי‪ ,‬אני רואה תעשייה גסה‪ ,‬והיא‬ ‫מצליחה לתעתע בי ‪ -‬ענני הארובות מתאחדים עם ענני הגשם‬ ‫והשמיים הכחולים‪ ...‬אז אני כבר לא יודע‪ ...‬זה טוב או רע? כל‬ ‫הסיפור הזה מבלבל אותי‪**.‬‬ ‫פרק ‪ ]80-97 [ 3‬בוקר היום שני לטיול‪ .‬היום הולכים לרכב‬ ‫‪ 62‬קילומטר אז חשוב להיות חזקים‪ .‬אנקדוטה מעניינת שעולה‬ ‫לי לראש היא לגבי חשיבותה של הכנסייה בעבר ובהווה… ״היא‬ ‫צריכה להיות הכי גבוהה כי היא המרכז של העיר״…‪ .‬ואז רגע לפני שאנחנו חוצים‬ ‫את נהר הריין בפעם הראשונה‪ ,‬אנחנו עוברים את תחנת הכוח הגרעינית הראשונה‪,‬‬ ‫כל כך קרוב אליה ‪ ,‬הדבר העצום הזה הזכיר לי כנסיה…‪ .‬וצחקתי ושאלתי את הייקה‬ ‫"זאת לא הכנסייה שאמורה להיות הכי גבוהה?!" חוצים את הנהר… עוצרים על‬ ‫שפת הנהר לנוח‪ .‬פתאום אני מרגיש את תחושת הבלבול הרבה יותר חזק… לפני‬ ‫רגע עברתי ליד כנסייה גרעינית ועכשיו אני על שפת נהר פסטורלי ורגוע‪ ,‬מלא‬ ‫בירוק ובמים זורמים ושמיים כחולים‪ .‬במבט נוסף שוב נגלים לפניי המפעלים‬ ‫בעצמתם‪ ,‬הספינות צצות‪ ,‬ועדיין יש מין תחושת שלווה‪ ,‬כאילו שני הניגודים האלה‬ ‫‪242‬‬

‫* אולי בעצם זה רעיון טוב שאזור התעשייה היה בעבר במרכז העיר‪ .‬אולי כך לא‬ ‫ניתן להתעלם לזיהום האוויר בעיר? בהתייחס למצב זיהם האוויר באזור‪ ,‬על פי‬ ‫ממד בזמן אמת של "‪ "World Air Quality Index‬נראה שהמצב פה מעולה כיום‪15 ,‬‬ ‫נקודות זיהום לעומת ‪ 160‬בעיר בה גדלתי בישראל‪ .‬מה שמעלה בי את המחשבה‬ ‫שאולי זה באמת יותר טוב? או ש‪ ...‬לאן בעצם כל התעשייה נעלמה?! יש פה‬ ‫הרבה מפעלים נטושים‪ ,‬אבל כמות האנשים גדלה בעולם בכלל ובעיר‪ ...‬יכול היות‬ ‫שפשוט התעשייה המזהמת עשתה טרנספר לסין?‬

‫פרק ‪ ]1-55 [ 1‬דויסבורג‪ ,‬התחנה הראשונה‪ ,‬במטרה להגיע אל הנהר בלב‬ ‫העיר‪ .‬העיר נחמדה מאוד‪ ,‬אך לא ייחודית ממבט ראשון‪ .‬היציאה מתחנת הרכבת‬ ‫המרכזית לא מחמיאה במיוחד לעיר‪ .‬בשדרה הראשית בדרך אל הנהר נתקלתי‬ ‫בשני נציגים שלכדואת עיני וגרמו לי לתהות‪ .‬הראשון היה סולם ענקי עשוי צינורות‬ ‫מתכת מצופים זהב‪ .‬לא יכולתי להתאפק והלכתי לראות מה הדבר הגס הזה‪ ,‬בעיר‬ ‫כה מאוזנת‪ .‬במבט ראשון‪ ,‬חשבתי על סולם יעקב המתואר בתורה וחשבתי כי‬ ‫הסולם יוצא מכנסייה‪ ,‬אך להפתעתי הרבה יצא הסולם ממרכז קניות ריק עם שומר‬ ‫סרק‪ ,‬זכוכית תקרה ודלתות ענקיות עשויות זכוכית‪ .‬לפני דלת הכניסה‪ ,‬ניצבות‬ ‫הרגליים הגסות של הסולם שאתה יכול לגעת בהן‪ .‬אני יכול לראות מבעד לתקרת‬ ‫הזכוכית‪ ,‬איך מסתערת המסה של היסוד הזהוב אל השמים‪.‬‬ ‫במורד הרחוב נתקלתי בתופעה שכבר זיהיתי בערים אחרות‬ ‫בגרמניה‪ ,‬הנוכחות החזקה של בניין ה"דויטשה בנק"‬ ‫ומיד אחריו בניין יריב של בנק "קומרצבנק"‪ ,‬מזכיר לי את‬ ‫הקפיטליזם המוכחש בגרמניה‪ :‬מדינה מאוזנת שמקפידה‬ ‫ובצדק לשמור על שוויון מגדרי וקבלת האחר‪ ,‬לפחות בהיבט‬ ‫החקיקתי‪ .‬אבל עדיין הקפיטליזם צף בחשאי‪ .‬אני עוקב‬ ‫אחרי הקתדרלה ומגיע לפסל ענקי ומנוכר המסתובב על ציר‬ ‫בתוך מזרקה פשוטה‪ .‬ציפור צבעונית ושמנמנה המביאה‬ ‫זעזוע צבעוני לרחוב גרמני בעל עננים בצבע אפור ברוב ימי‬ ‫השנה‪ ...‬מרגיש כאילו מישהו מנסה לעורר חיים במקום שבו‬ ‫לא מרגיש שיש צורך‪.‬‬ ‫בהמשך דרכי לכיוון העורק הראשי של העיר‪ ,‬נהר הריין‪,‬‬ ‫אני עובר דרך הקתדרלה‪ ,‬משם ממשיך צפונה‪ ,‬אני רואה‬ ‫באופק מבנה גס‪ ,‬עשוי לבני טרקוטה שמושך את תשומת‬ ‫ליבי בגסותו‪ .‬אני שואל את עצמי מה זאת החיה האדריכלית‬ ‫הזו באמצע העיר ללא חלונות‪ ,‬ללא אנושיות? מחומש ענק‬ ‫בלב העיר המתחרה בסולם המוזהב בשדרה‪,‬שמתחרה בקתדרלה שבעבר הייתה‬ ‫המרכז הרוחני והגאוגרפי של העיר‪ .‬מה שנראה לי כמו מקרה סימבולי שמתאר‬ ‫את השינוי בסדר החשיבות של המאה האחרונה‪ .‬ככל שאני מתקרב אני מגלה כי‬ ‫אני נכנס לאזור נמל לשעבר שנמצא בלב העיר‪ ...‬אני כבר ממש על‪ .‬שפת הנהר‬ ‫המגודר‪ ,‬בעל מנופי פריקה ומכלי אחסון ענקיים ממתכת שגרמו לי לתהות איפה‬ ‫עובר קו הגבול בין תעשייה לבין מגורים ומה קרה פה לפני שהקו היטשטש ודהה?‬ ‫‪243‬‬

‫* הגאווה העתיקה הזו של הדור הישן של גרמניה שהיה גאה לעבוד את‬ ‫השדות שאני חוצה עכשיו מזכירות לי את הקיבוצים בישראל ואיך כל פעם‬ ‫שאני מכיר מישהו חדש בגרמניה איכשהו הוא מכיר מישהו שהיה לכמה‬ ‫חודשים בקיבוץ בישראל‪ ,‬ואני תוהה לעצמי למה? ומה זאת האובססיה הזו‬ ‫לעסוק בישראל ומזרח התיכון… מה יש לאירופה עם ישראל? למה מדברים‬ ‫עלינו בחדשות? למה אכפת לאנשים כל כך? וזה מגיע גם עם דעה מגובשת‬ ‫לרוב ולא מבוססת בעליל אבל הדבר מאוד מסקרן אותי… עד לפליטת פה‬ ‫הבאה שאדם שמעולם לא היה בארץ הפליטים היהודים‪.‬‬

‫ממנו מאוד‪.‬‬ ‫דעתי מוסחת עוד מרחוק לכיוון גשר בטון מטורף בגודלו ולמרות שאין לי ולו טיפת‬ ‫ניסיון בתכנון גשרים‪ ,‬אני לא מצליח למצוא סיבה למבנה המסיבי הזה‪.‬הוא גורם לי‬ ‫לחשוב ישר על השנאה המגוחכת בין גרמנים לרוסים‪ .‬יש כל כך הרבה דומיון‪ .‬בדיוק‬ ‫כמו הגשר הגס הזה נראה כמו ברוטליזם וקונסטרוקטיביזם… דימוי ענק ומנוכר‬ ‫במרכז הקומפוזיציה או יותר נכון‪ ,‬מרכז את הקומפוזיציה אליו‪ .‬אז אני סופר עוד‬ ‫חייזר אדריכלי ולא ברור באורבניות הגרמנית‪.‬‬ ‫חולפים מתחת לגשר הבטון‪ .‬כעבור כמה מאוד מטרים אני מסובב את מבטי לאחור‬ ‫לעוד הצצה קלה על על הגשר‪ ,‬שיחק לי המזל ונוצרה‬ ‫לעיניי תמונה‪ ,‬מסילת רכבת ישנה שנדמה כמו שנאכלה‬ ‫על ידי הטבע‪ ,‬נראה שבעבר היא חצתה את הריין ומרחוק‬ ‫עדיין בולט וזקוף עומד לו גוש הבטון ומבשר על רוח‬ ‫אחרת בגרמניה… כבר לא מבוססת על לבנים אדומות‬ ‫ועבודת כפיים‪*.‬‬

‫פרק ‪]134-163 [ 5‬‬ ‫קסטן‪ ,‬אזור העיר העתיקה‪,‬‬ ‫שוכב גמור על מדשאה ירוקה ומעל ראשי תחנת רוח‪.‬‬ ‫אופה נכנס מהכניסה האחורית שלה‪ ,‬ממש כמו בשחקי‬ ‫אסטרטגיה במחשב שבילדות‪ ,‬תקופה שתמיד הייתי‬ ‫מתפלא ממנה‪ .‬הרבה לבנים אדומות שמזכירות לי כל‬ ‫הזמן שאני בגרמניה… צברתי כוחות והלכתי לקנות לי‬ ‫כמה מאפים‪ .‬בעודי נוגס ואולי בגלל הרעב‪ ,‬המרקם‬ ‫והצבע של המאפה מחזירים אותי לחברון… ‪4:30 2008‬‬ ‫בבוקר יוצאים בשני ג’יפים משוריינים לכיוון המחסום‬ ‫ובדרך עוצרים להריח את הלחמים במאפייה מתחת למוצב‪ ,‬מבקשים לקנות‬ ‫לפעמים זה עובד לפעמים לא‪ .‬את הטעם של הלחם מהקמח הלא מסונן והלא‬ ‫מולבן אני לא אשכח בחיים‪ .‬בין כל החרא שעסקנו בו‪ ,‬בשבילי זה היה רגעי השיא‪.‬‬ ‫חזרה למציאות…‬ ‫אני קם כדי להתחיל לחפש עוד רמזים על מה הסיפור פה‪ ,‬משתמש בכלל הידוע‬ ‫והולך לעבר הכנסייה‪ .‬נכנס לשאול את מוכרת הגלויות בכנסיה מה הקשר של‬ ‫המקום לריין כי אחרי הכל הוא די רחוק… בפליאה היא אומרת שאין כל קשר לריין‪.‬‬ ‫כמובן בראשי עוברת השאלה אז איך התייבשתם פה… מהר מאוד היא חוזרת‬ ‫‪244‬‬

‫כבר שנים פה אחרי ריב גדול ועכשיו הם בעידן הפיוס‪*.‬‬

‫* זה מרגיש כמו במטריקס (לא הסרט‪ ,‬המשמעות של‬ ‫מציאות מדומה)‪ .‬אני מרגיש בטבע הפתוח אבל למעשה‬ ‫הכל פה היה עד לא מזמן שטח תעשייתי במלוא מובן‬ ‫המילה… אז הירוק לא באמת טבעי‪.‬והמים? גם הם נגועים‪,‬‬ ‫הם משמשים לקירור הטורבינות של התחנה וכל המפעלים‬ ‫סביב‪ ,‬והשמיים? העננים מתערבבים להם קלות עם ענני‬ ‫העשן הלבן שיוצא מארובות התעשייה הכבדה‪ .‬נראה כמו‬ ‫משהו מאוד נורא לטבע שמסתתר בין העננים הלבנים‬ ‫ומשתלב איתם כדי שנוכל להמשיך לחיות עם מצפון ״נקי״‪,‬‬ ‫יש חשש שאפילו המצפון נמצא במטריקס משלו… בין‬ ‫מציאות למציאות מדומה‪.‬‬

‫פרק ‪ ]98-133 [ 4‬קוראים לי‪ .‬ריחפתי לרגע במחשבות‪ ,‬בתחושות… אורז מהר‬ ‫את הדברים וממשכים‪ .‬שער עתיק מלבנים אדומות בכניסה ל ‪ ,Orsoy‬ניצב כמו‬ ‫קו גבול החוצה בין השטח העירוני לבין ה”טבע”‪ .‬נדמה כאילו בלעדיו שניהם היו‬ ‫מתערבבים… לא בזבזנו זמן‪ ,‬עצרנו רק לרגע מול הכנסייה והמשכנו ברכיבה‬ ‫לכיוון מערב‪ .‬רגע לפני שמתרחקים מהאזור העירוני אני חוצה מפגש מסילות‬ ‫רכבת‪ ,‬אני לא יכול להתאפק ומדמיין איך הרכבת היא למעשה הריין על גלגלים‬ ‫ומסילה‪ ,‬תמונה נוספת שקופצת לראשי לאלפית השניה ‪,‬כנראה בגלל המיקום‬ ‫ואורך המסילה היא הכניסה לאושוויץ שראיתי בכיתה י’‪ ,‬ספק זיכרון ספק טראומה‪.‬‬ ‫זהו‪ ,‬יצאנו לאוויר הפתוח‪ ,‬שטחים ירוקים‬ ‫והרבה שדות שמאפשרים את החופש לראות‬ ‫לרחוק‪ ,‬יש לנו הרבה מזל‪ ,‬מזג האוויר מעולה‬ ‫והמחשבה של מתי יתחיל הגשם לטפטף‬ ‫עלינו רצה במקביל… רוכבים עם כיוון המים ‪-‬‬ ‫הריין מימיננו… הספינות העמוסות במכולות‬ ‫מבלבלות ומקשות להבין לאיזה כיוון המים‬ ‫זורמים‪ .‬הלוגואים של חברות ההובלה על‬ ‫המכולות נראות כמו שלטי חוצות זזים באמצע‬ ‫הפסטורליות הירוקה הזו… ובכלל מרגיש כאילו‬ ‫אין שום סיבה לשים את הלוגו ככה בענק על‬ ‫כל מכולה‪ ,‬מה הבעיה לעבור לצבע אחיד אחד‬ ‫רשום כסמל מסחרי? כמו האדום של קוקה‬ ‫קולה ולשם בהם את המכולה במקום כל הדבר המנוכר הזה… המוח חוזר לרגיעה‪,‬‬ ‫אין דברים שיגרו את המחשבה‪ .‬מימין הריין‪ ,‬משמאל טפטופים של כפרים קטנים‬ ‫שעושה חשק להכיר‪" .‬יש למה לחיות" לרגע עובר בראש…‬ ‫הרגיעה הזו נותנת פתח למחשבה חיובית‪ ,‬על האיזון המוזר הזה שנראה אובססיבי‬ ‫בתרבות פה‪ .‬נזכר כמה אני מעריך את העובדה שאין פה גורדי שחקים שמשחירים‬ ‫את חיינו‪ ,‬יש מן פיזור אוכלוסין הגיוני פה‪ ,‬שנוגד את הריכוזיות הלא בריאה הזו‪.‬‬ ‫ריכוזיות אוחח בכלל לא בא לי להתחיל לחשוב על זה‪ ,‬על ההקצנה‪ ,‬הצפיפות‪,‬‬ ‫הפערים‪ ,‬הפקקים שהיא יוצרת‪ .‬אני חולם שזה יהיה ככה אצלנו‪ ,‬במקום להתרכז‬ ‫בתל אביב המזוהמת והמנוכרת מעם‪ .‬יש משהו מאוד יפה בפיזור הזה ואני נהנה‬ ‫‪245‬‬

‫השניה מראה לי תמונות שלה מבקרת את המשפחה הבולגרית או הונגרית‪ .‬אני‬ ‫לא זוכר בדיוק ואולי זה בכלל מתערבב לי עם הגשר שבסן‪-‬פרנסיסקו שאולי היא‬ ‫ביקרה בו… אינני יודע אבל מצאתי את עצמי מספר פעמים בחיי נזכר ברגע הזה‪.‬‬ ‫מעבר לגשר מוצבים להם חגורת מפעלים המוצבים על קו הנהר‪ ,‬נראה כמו סצנה‬ ‫בספארי של חיות שותות מן המים‪ ,‬רק שהתוצאה הפוכה‪ -‬זה מחייה וזה ממית‪.‬‬

‫* בעתיד אני אשב ברכבת לכיוון‬ ‫דוסלדורף ואדפדף במגזין הרכבת‬ ‫ואמצא כתבה של ‪ 6-8‬עמודים‬ ‫צבועים שמציגים בצורה חיובית‬ ‫את הגידול שלהפרח הספציפי הזה‪,‬‬ ‫משום מה ממש לא הייתי מופתע‪.‬‬

‫הגשם מאחורינו‪ ,‬חולפים על פני העיר מסטריך‪ ,‬כמה‬ ‫פרק ‪]176-205 [ 7‬‬ ‫קילומטרים לפני הגבול‪ .‬הרבה שטחים חקלאיים‪ ,‬שוב אני רגוע הארץ ירוקה‬ ‫והשמים כחולים ומדי פעם מבצבצים להם משטחים של פרח צהוב אולי קנולה…‬ ‫ואני לא מצליח להתאפק וחושב לעצמי ‪" -‬איזה יופי‪ ,‬איזה מזל שנלחמתי לבוא"…‬ ‫ואז מתברר כי הפרח הזה מסריח‪ .‬יש מאחוריו סיפור פוליטי‪ -‬כלכלי של אינטרסים‪,‬‬ ‫גופים חזקים מבקשים לגדל אותו למרות שזה לא פרקטי‪ .‬עוד מקרה קלאסי של‬ ‫מציאות מבלבלת‪ .‬אני יכול להניח שברוב התרבויות קיים הביטוי “אל תסתכל‬ ‫בקנקן אלא בתוכו”‪ .‬ושופט את עצמי למה אני תמיד צריך למצוא את הצד הזה‬ ‫בדברים‪ .‬זה יפה‪ -‬אז זה יפה! ועזוב את זה שיש סיפור חמוץ‬ ‫מאחוריו‪ .‬האומנם? כנראה שאני אמשיך בדרכי וכל פעם אצחק‬ ‫כשאגיע לנקודות האלה בחיים‪ *.‬הרגע שזכור לי ממש חזק הוא‬ ‫התפיסה הכל כך שונה בינינו לגבי גבולות‪.‬‬ ‫זהו אני נעול בתוך הרכיבה‪ ,‬מחכה להגיע לגבול בין המדינות‬ ‫העצומות האלה‪ .‬דעתי הוסחה למשמע המילים “זה הגבול"…‬ ‫תמרור להולכי רגל ותמרור לרוכבי אופניים ובו נכתב בקטן‬ ‫‪ Ende‬אחלה סטירה מצלצלת קיבלתי עכשיו‪.‬חשבת יש יהיה‬ ‫משהו‪ ,‬מחסומון‪ ,‬עמדה של שומר‪ ,‬שוטר… בשניה שנאמר לי שזה הגבול אני שלפתי‬ ‫את המצלמה כאילו זה היה הנשק שלי וירית תמונות כדי לתפוס את הרגע החריג‬ ‫הזה‪.‬כמובן שחשתי טיפש שניה אחרי‪ ,‬כמו ברגע הזה שטסתי לאיטליה דרך גרמניה‬ ‫והייתי מופתע שאני כבר ליד בורדיג ורק עכשיו מעביר אותי בדיקה שיטחית‪ ,‬מה‬ ‫כאילו חסר משוגעים בעולם בלי קשר לטרור? בחזרה ל”גבול"‪ ,‬כל כך הרבה‬ ‫אסוציאציות לא לגיטימיות למילה נותנות לי להרגיש מובך‪ ,‬מזל שההולנדים‬ ‫החליטות שמסלולי אופניים יהיו באספלט אדום ואחרת זה היה פשוט נראה הכל‬ ‫יחידה אחת‪ **.‬חזרה למציאות… הכל ירוק ושטוח… אנחנו חוצים כפרים קטנטנים‬ ‫שהייתי חולם לעצור בהם ולשמוע מקולו של מקומי זקן את הסיפור של המקום‪.‬‬ ‫מרחוק נראה הגשם שחיכיתי לו‪ .‬הרי לא יכול להיות שהכל יהיה כל כך טוב‪ ...‬וכמו‬ ‫‪246‬‬

‫בעצמה ומספרת שפעם היה קשר ושכדי שאלך למוזאון בקצה העיר… ביציאתי‬ ‫שוב נתקל בישו צלוב ומדמם… ותוהה לעצמי… איך זה מסתדר לקהילה שילדים‬ ‫רואים דמות צלובה ומדממת מגיל כל כך צעיר? אינני באמת יודע כי גם אני הייתי‬ ‫בכנסיות כבר מגיל ‪ 8‬ולא זכורים לי פחד או אימה כשראיתי את הפסלים הללו…‬ ‫מחוץ לכנסיה האזור נראה מאוד תיירותי לכיוון הכיכר הבאה‪ ,‬אבל הכיוון שלי הוא‬ ‫לצד השני… בדרך נתקל בשני פגרים של ציפור שחורה ותוהה לעצמי אם עד כדי‬ ‫כך רדום פה שאין מי שיפנה את הפגרים? טביעות כפות רגליים שהוטבעו בלבנים‬ ‫האדומות על הרצפה מזכירות לי את הבולשיט של האמריקאים בהוליווד‪.‬‬ ‫בעודי ממשיך ללכת לכיוון המוזיאון הסביבה משתנה לגמרי‪ .‬תחושה שאני ביישוב‬ ‫עכשווי‪ ,‬הכל מתוקתק‪ ,‬גינה קדמית מסודרת באופן מוגזם ולא טבעי… אני בגרמניה‪.‬‬ ‫נכנס למוזאון…נראה מסודר מדי ונקי מדי כדי שזה יהיה מעניין‪ .‬מטייל בזריזות‬ ‫במוזיאון ומרגיש שהדברים לא באמת אמתיים‪ ,‬ניגש לסדרנית והיא אומרת שהרוב‬ ‫בכלל לא מקורי… מה שעשה את הצפייה בדברים ללא רלוונטית… במפה מצויר נמל‬ ‫רומאי אבל לא נשאר ממנו כלום כי הריין זז כמה מאות מטרים מהאזור‪.‬‬ ‫שיחה על מהות החיים נפתחת כדי להעביר את הזמן במוזיאון‪ ,‬על ספסל מול‬ ‫מיצג גדול שספק נועד לחסום את הדרך ספק מנסה להמשיך לי את הסיפור של‬ ‫טבע לא טבעי… שבעה לוחות אור בגודל שני מטר גובה על מטר וחצי רוחב ועליהן‬ ‫הדפס של חורשה… ילד בגיל הטיפש עשרה צץ מבין הלוחות ועובר לצד השני‪ .‬אני‬ ‫צוחק “הנה אחד שלא מוכן לחיות את המטריקס הזה”‪ ,‬השיחה מתגלגלת ועוברת‬ ‫בין נושאים כבדים לבין קלילות ומסתיימת בסימן שאלה הגדול שחג מעלי כבר ‪3‬‬ ‫שנים‪ .‬מה המהות של העשייה? ומה הטעם בכלל? הרי כולם חושבים שהם צודקים‪,‬‬ ‫כולם חשים מיוחדים (כולל אנוכי) וגם ככה המציאות פועלת לחיזוק החזק… אז מה‬ ‫הטעם בדברים? עייפים אך מרוצים מגיעים לקלו אחרי עצירה קלה בקלקר לקנות‬ ‫קצת יין וחטיפים… השקיעה מסנוורת במאתיים מטרים האחרונים ומעלה לנו חיוך‬ ‫גדול של סיפוק‪ .‬עצם המחשבה שהתלוננתי לא מעט שאולי זה קצת יותר מדי‬ ‫ארוך מעלה בי גיחוך‪ .‬מקלחת‪ ,‬קצת יין‪ ,‬מוסיקה מהבית ולישון‪.‬‬ ‫פרק ‪ ]164-175 [ 6‬קסטן בוקר יום שלישי לטיול‪ ,‬גם היום יש עוד כמה עשרות‬ ‫קילומטרים לפנינו‪ .‬מתלבשים קצת יותר חם‪ ,‬אבל עדיין מזג האוויר משחק‬ ‫לטובתנו… צפונה לחצות את הגבול להולנד‪ ,‬חוצים את הריין דרך גשר כבלים‬ ‫אדום‪ ,‬שמרגיש לי מוכר…התמונה הזאת של גשר מסגרת וכבלים אדומים מעלה‬ ‫בי זיכרון מגיל ‪ 6‬או ‪ …7‬כשסוניה‪,‬המטפלת שלי מחזיקה אותי ביד אחת עליה וביד‬ ‫‪247‬‬

‫האנשים מתפזרים ואנחנו נשארים לדבר‪ .‬מה הוא עיצוב בתכליתו‪ ,‬והאם אנחנו‬ ‫מעצבים בכלל? או שיש משהו מעבר לזה… דברים רבים ואישיים נאמרו וכך גם‬ ‫ישמרו‪ ,‬כדי להבטיח את קיומה של שיחה כזו בעתיד… “אני לא מעצב‪ ,‬אני מספר‬ ‫סיפור בתקווה שאנשים יאהבו אותו…”‬

‫** לא אמחוק את זה עכשיו אבל למה כתבתי “מזל ש…" והוף אני מוצא את התפיסה‬ ‫השגוייה שלי לנושא‪ .‬גבולות זה חוסר יציבות‪ ,‬זה צבא ‪ 3‬שנים‪ ,‬זה קירות של הבית‬ ‫היחידי שאני מרגיש בו שייך‪ ,‬זה לקום ב‪ 4:45‬בבוקר כי השמש מסנוורת בהרי הצפון‬ ‫ושיש חשש לנקודת תורפה אז צריך להעיר את כולם ולצאת כשקפוא ולהיות מוכנים‪,‬‬ ‫זה לראות ילד רץ בוכה שאלוהים יודע כמה קנים מכוונים אליו בתקווה שלא תהיה‬ ‫עליו פצצה‪ ,‬זה הרבה דם הרבה יותר מדי בידיעה שאין פתרון קסם וזה עניין של זמן‬ ‫וסבלנות‪ .‬אבל בטח לא משהו שנגמר בתמרור ואספלט אדום‪.‬הערה לקורא‪ :‬אני‬ ‫מרגיש לא בנוח עם הפיסקה האחרונה‪.‬אני רוצה שהקוראים יבינו מה שהם רוצים‬ ‫ולא מה שאני מנסה מבין‪.‬‬

‫שצפיתי במעבר מהאזור הכפרי לאזור יותר מיושב‬ ‫הוא תופס אותנו ומאזן את מזג האוויר השמשי‬ ‫של הימים האחרונים… אנחנו נרטבים כמו שצריך‪.‬‬ ‫סיטואציה מצחיקה של כאילו עשינו וי בפינקס על‬ ‫גשם‪ ,‬גשם חזק נקודתי וקצר… היה משעשע‪.‬‬

‫פרק ‪ ]206-224 [ 8‬הגענו לארוחת צהריים בדיוק‬ ‫בשעה שתיים והגענו ליעד שלנו דוישבוך‪ ,‬הולנד‪ .‬זהו‬ ‫האגו עולה ואיתו הגאווה‪ ,‬ואני צוחק עם עצמי שוב‬ ‫איך אנחנו‪ ,‬בני האדם מצליחים לשכוח ברגע את‬ ‫מה שאמרנו חצי שעה קודם ופיתאום להיות שמחים‬ ‫וגאים שהגענו אל המטרה‪ .‬תכונה משעשעת ובלי‬ ‫נשלטת כל כך‪.‬‬ ‫נכנסים למסעדה כמו חבורת מנצחים עייפים‬ ‫ורטובים‪ ,‬ולמזלנו המסעדה הייתה מלאה אז הכניסו‬ ‫אותנו לחדר האירועים של המסעדה‪ ,‬סיום קלאסי‪ .‬רק‬ ‫שעכשיו הסרט הקבוע שלי‪ ,‬אני צריך להזמין אוכל‬ ‫ועם כל החוקים במסורת שלי‪ ,‬זה לרוב לא הולך‪ .‬אז‬ ‫הפעם שברתי את כל הכללים‪.‬אני לא מצפה שיבינו אותי כי זה מורכב מדי ולא‬ ‫צריך לעניין‪ .‬בחרתי לא להתנהג לפי הכללים מאותה הסיבה שאני לא רואה סיבה‬ ‫הגיונית לכך שאדם ערבי או יהודי ילבש סימן מזהה שיבדיל אותו מהסביבה (כשהוא‬ ‫לא בסביבתו הטבעית ) “ברומא תהיה רומאי” או לפחות תשתדל… אז השתדלתי‬ ‫ואכלתי לאט את מה שנתנו לי‪.‬‬ ‫הסתובבנו בעיר התיירותית הזאת‪ ,‬מאוד נחמד ומרגיש כאילו אין הבדל גדול בין‬ ‫התרבויות … מזל שיש האספלט האדום‪ .‬נוסעים עוד שלושה קילומטרים למקום בו‬ ‫נישן… זו וילה‪ ..‬יפיפייה על שפת הנהר‪ .‬הכל מתוקתק ונקי‪ ,‬המחשבות ישר עולות‬ ‫לי לראש… איך ומאיפה הכסף? מה היה פה לפני והאם מישהו נפגע מזה? לא מתוך‬ ‫מקום של שליליות אלא מתוך ביקורת בתקווה שתתגלה כחיובית ואז אני אעריך‬ ‫את המקום פי חמישה יותר‪ .‬עולים לבחור חדרים ומשחקים משחקי נימוס מוגזמים‬ ‫אבל עדיף ככה… מתאפסים וקופצים לסופר הקרוב לקנות את כל המאכלים‬ ‫המקומיים ויין שכמובן יביא לשיחה עמוקה מאוד לתוך הלילה‪.‬‬ ‫הפעם אני לא לוקח סיכונים נכנס לדוכן אוכל מהיר וקונה לי אוכל… ערב‪ ,‬לאט לאט‬ ‫‪249‬‬
