SUNDAY

JULY 22ND 2018

ONE LAST SONG The best artists from across the seven seas have travelled far and wide looking for Planaxis; today is the final day that you’ll be able to harmonize with them. Will you swim to Paul Kalkbrenner and Martin Garrix at the Mainstage, or would you rather drown in the thunderous beats of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike? Expand your horizon with Kölsch and pay a visit to Klingande at the Rose Garden. Wherever you go, dance!

Citizens of Planaxis,

UNI T E FOREVER ! Nothing lasts forever, and unfortunately, this is your last day of Tomorrowland. Advice? Just go where you haven’t been, eat what you haven’t eaten and enjoy the music one last time. And if you still can’t get over that cutie standing next to you earlier, this would be a suitable time to track them down and break the ice with some mutual memories of weekend.

Guardians of the Ocean,

LOV E TOMORROW ! Be a keeper of your gifts. Cherish your time. Eat good food. Use earplugs to avoid too much noise. Meet new people from all over the world. Memorize and share precious moments! You should never toss a true collector's item, but if you must, the Paper bin is the right one.

Peo pl e

o f To m orrow,

HEED THE CALL OF HARMONY! Harmony is a wonderful phenomenon. It is contagious: wherever it is established, it works against chaos, establishing the music of friendship and coexistence. This weekend, friends, you stand under the sign of the Spira Mirabilis. Like a sea creature’s shell, it radiates slowly outwards from the centre, spreading harmony through space, species, and even through time itself. Its effects are everywhere to be found. From the farthest reaches of the Holy Grounds, where the Theatre Formidable has the crowd facing a central stage in unison, to the chasm where the Arch has risen from the murky depths, 1

new connections are shaping up – and not just between the human inhabitants of our underwater realm. Scaly, glutinous and strange though they may be, the ocean dwellers living here since time immemorial have become your cherished companions as well. Now – today marks the last day of your stay in the singular realm of Planaxis, friends. Be sure to keep expanding our mystical spiral: radiate your inner strength outwards in response to its sonorous call. Build upon your earlier exploits, touch the hearts of as many others as you can, and spread the harmonious energy of life itself!

THE STORY OF PLANAXIS No one knows exactly how, why, or when Planaxis was built. The identity of its Architect is long lost to history, its first inhabitants are no longer with us. One thing was preserved for all these years, however, and has surfaced with the call for the People of Tomorrow to unite: a diary, waterlogged and old, but supposedly belonging to none other than the visionary mind behind Planaxis. The following is its final entry.

Beauty. Harmony. Completion.

TREASURE ME

DREAMVILLE Part of the popular beliefs surrounding pirates and outlaws is the existence of treasure chests, supposedly used to hide their contraband from authorities. The People of Planaxis use treasure chests in a completely different way, however. Planaxis treasures memories – and so its treasure chests are time capsules that keep past moments alive. Together, these memories make up the perfect harmony of Planaxis throughout the generations, as the chests accept things from one citizen and pass them on to another. Behold, now, as one chest’s new contributors are presented below. Want to be at the receiving end? Wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.

Lewis, Jimmy, Shenae and Kayla sailed to Planaxis on their boat and share a part of their vessel. “We want to leave it behind for others, because to us it’s been a lifesaver.”

Christophe is already a proud father, passing the TML legacy on to his son Axel. Their friend Amber shares an eyeliner. “It’s waterproof, so it will come in handy on the bottom of the sea.”

“I have carried this vanilla stick around for five years now. I love the scent of it and I think this is a good moment to share it with others,” Sergio from Russia says as he looks at his Spanish girlfriend Arrate. “I hope somebody with a real passion for taste and smell finds it.”

TWINKLE TWINKLE

LITTLE STAR These boys from Germany hope somebody will find their pack of candy. “It’s a typical German kind of candy. We always carry this around.”

“I don’t believe in fairytales, but I’ll consider you and me!” is one of the most significant reactions the beautiful Morning Fairies got upon waking the deepest sleepers of DreamVille. Armoured with nothing but a fairytale princess outfit and a couple of ringing bells, these lovely creatures pay a visit to your tent to quietly wake you up in the most charming and pleasant of ways. It is said that if you repeat their names in the mirror three times before you go to sleep, they’ll let you sleep a little longer…

The lovely Mathilde, Emma and Febe share products that are close to them. “We hope someone who appreciates modern-day beauty routines and health will one day enjoy them.”

“I would love to share this Tunisian coin with the People of Tomorrow. It stands for good luck. That’s my wish for the one who finds it – a lot of luck and happiness,” Rayen says.

DETOX YOUR BODY Burpees are great for their ability to immediately wake you up and detox your entire body. Many other exercises take time to build up to the intensity that burpees offer straight away. Dennis, instructor at the Matrix Recovery Area, explains: “If you value your time at this festival, burpees are a quick workout to give you an instant boost. You’ll be on your way again immediately!”

1. Begin in a standing position and move into a squat position with your hands almost on the floor 2. Kick your feet back into a plank position while keeping your arms straight. 3. Immediately move your feet back into squat position and jump!

FLY LIKE A PAPER The only rain you will have seen yesterday was the heavy thunderstorm of paper planes in front of Studio Brussel. ‘StuBru’ is no stranger to creative contests, and this year they challenged visitors to fold a paper airplane from their Tomorrowland Today newspaper. There was an amazing prize awaiting. The only condition? The airplane actually had to fly. Emma and Indy from Belgium folded their own airplane and had their eyes on the prize right away. The secret to their Airforce Two? “Just fold it tightly a couple of times,” Emma says. “And put a little of your own magic in it, of course.” Congratulations guys, you won a TML by Tomorrowland voucher! The team is going to contact you soon.

“Since we all know plastic and oceans don’t go well together, we would like to pass on a re-usable bag,” these boys from Belgium say.

LEAF FOREVER This year the LEAF Stage is hosted by the soundsmiths of JBL, a brand that stands for creating epic moments. And let’s be honest: it doesn’t get more epic than Tomorrowland, does it? Tucked away between the Tulip stage and the Youphoria stage, the LEAF by JBL area floats happily on the pond. This is the place to make waves and dance in a highly idyllic environment. Needless to say, JBL’s craftsmanship made sure that the quality of the sound at the LEAF stage is absolutely top-notch. Surround yourself with friends, and dance, rise and fall with the beat of the music. Feel the power of the bass in your chest. Immerse yourself in the sound. Don’t just listen to the music, feel the music. If it’s good enough for JBL brand ambassadors Nicky Romero and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, then surely, it’s good enough for all of us!

As I took the road on the boardwalk of the Holy Grounds, I found some interesting spots again. Where to hide, where to lay low today? These questions kept on spinning in my head, but I found my perfect place to stay. Yesterday’s winner, Dominik Harant, found me and got himself a TML by Tomorrowland package! The team is going to contact you soon, Dominik I deeply encourage you to hold on to your search for me, and to holler at me via today@ tomorrowland.com when I am found. Take a splendid picture (including yourself) and maybe, you will be the new winner of the day.

TOMORROWLAND’S

TASTEMAKERS DJs OF THE FUTURE At the Pepsi Max Sound of Tomorrow booth, fresh DJ talent gets the chance to show off their skills. During their 15 minutes of fame, they are guided by a professional who teaches them all the tricks of the trade. Not only will they play in front of an audience, the whole set will be filmed and sent to them afterwards, too. Joachim from Belgium is one of the lucky ones that get to show off their DJ game in front of an impressive attendance. “It was an amazing experience. I really think this is the coolest stage at TML.” His fifteen-minute tutor-DJ Steve Rush couldn’t agree more. “It feels really special that such a dope stage can be the playground for new talents,” he says. “They get to see the whole experience and at the same time, a relatively small stage can be the host for so many potential great talents.”

Tomorrowland is a massive place and walking around in the sun all day sure can make you thirsty. Thirsty for liquid, but also for uninterrupted house, techno, and EDM bangers. Luckily for you, there’s a place where you can find it all: the House of Mask stage by Cubanisto! In this glow-in-the-dark area, both Rum- and Mojito-flavoured beer are served in custom Tomorrowland bottles; this golden liquid marries beautifully with a fresh slice of orange, and it is the perfect dance companion for the line-up. There is also a photo-booth where you can get silly with your friends and capture that moment forever. “It just feels like being somewhere in space, but with a really good drink”, says English visitor Nathalie. “To be honest, I haven’t even been anywhere else today,” adds her friend Coco. Featuring Fabrice Lig, Nico Morano, Eelke Kleijn and many others, this stage is the hidden pearl of Planaxis, and something you will definitely not want to miss. 7

WELCOME TO THE

CAGE

Tomorrowland excels at great vistas, views on fata morgana-style decors visible from a great distance: things that make you want to get to your dreamlike destination as fast as your legs can carry you. With so much grandeur around you, it’s easy to blink and miss the hidden gems of Planaxis. The very origins of Tomorrowland lie in the original club culture of cities like New York and Chicago, and it can be hard to find the little areas where this dark and sweaty vibe has been recreated. Promoters as diverse as Ed Banger Records (Friday), Glitterbox (Saturday), and Loudness (Sunday) host the Cage this weekend. The wonderful, inclusive and happy vibes we encountered yesterday when we went down for a boogie with Glitterbox blew our minds – and this is what we saw. It’s a bit of a mission to find the dark corner of Planaxis called the Cage, but once inside the venue, you’ll realise that you’re not the only one who’s made the effort. Confused and surprised yet happy faces come down the stairs into the underground space that forms the core of the venue. Katie from London loves the mysterious entrance to the club: “It’s a real journey. You walk into a corridor and then turn around the corner before you’re suddenly there, right on the dance floor. It totally suits the kind of tracks you hear here. I would even say the venue is a metaphor for the music, it has a real intimate family feel.” Reinaldi from Bandung, Indonesia, felt equally disoriented, but liked the effect as well. “It’s a large, multiple-storey building, so you don’t expect to go down some stairs after you’ve just gone up some other ones. Very confusing, but I appreciate the strangeness. I feel it creates a certain energy.” Bart van Neste a.k.a. DJ FCL and vocalist Lady Linn are excited after their performance, even if they’re a little hot when they come off the booth. They’ve just done a set jam-packed with underground house classics, some of which were instantly recognised by the Cage’s dedicated crowd. Their collaboration is a smooth one: FCL plays instrumental versions of songs such as Armand van Helden’s ‘You Don’t Know Me’ and Aly-Us’s ‘Follow Me’, while Linn sings

the lyrics in a sultry, soulful way. The vibes of the Cage are exactly what they’re looking for when they play. “I’m a club sort of guy, I grew up in places like this,” says Bart. “Our music is best enjoyed indoors, it’s sweaty and dark, yes, but we don’t mind that at all.” “The people here get what we do,” says Linn. “Our house sound has an off-the-beaten-track element to it, especially if you compare it to the other music at Tomorrowland, but after the audience has been inside the room for a while, they get excited. Some even sing along to the lyrics of pretty every underground club tune we play.” The duo have performed at the venue before, during the 2017 edition, and Bart recalls the walls shaking a bit more then. “They’ve certainly made the construction a bit more sturdy, but the constant factor has been the sound – which is amazing – besides the delicious darkness, of course.” Few people in the Cage look as happy as Shannon from San Francisco. “I’m here with lots of friends who are quite a bit younger than me, and we’ve been checking out some EDM areas. They were amazing, but I’m really into house music, so when I found out about this stage in the time schedule, I forced them to come with me today. EDM is cool, but it’s important to remember where it all comes from and the roots are in house music! We almost missed this spot when we first tried to find it. I find a lot of the smaller venues are hard to locate. But I really think that the little gems not many people know about are the most fun areas to dance in. It is what makes being at this festival unforgettable for me.”

“I like to find the little gems not many people know about, the most fun areas to dance in.”

“They’ve certainly made the construction a bit more solid, but the constant factor has been the sound – which is amazing – and the delicious darkness, of course.”

Glitterbox - brainchild of Simon Dunmore, label boss at London’s legendary deep house label Defected Records - convincingly owns the Cage on Saturday. “Tomorrowland realised how unique our event was at Ibiza,” Dunmore says. “Many promoters focus heavily on the DJ, while for us, the experience is about the music, our dancers and the people in the audience.” On top of that, Dunmore enjoys the challenge of educating a large crowd about the roots of the music they listen to. “We take the music and spirit of the original club culture to the crowd. I believe in bringing the music to the people, because if you don’t do that, folks may miss out on hearing something they really love. The Cage is an excellent location to do this, as Glitterbox is more of a club night than a festival experience. Actually, it’s the best of both worlds, a club inside the boundaries of a festival. It’s perfect.” With three very different hosts programming the Cage over the weekend, it is easy to see how the darkness fits any type of club music, as long as it’s underground. On Friday, when the bill was stuffed with artists from the Ed Banger label, things got rather rowdy as the stage was headlined by Pedro Winter a.k.a. Busy P, former Daft Punk manager and head honcho of the imprint. After Saturday’s Glitterbox, Sunday sees the Cave turn into a real ravey warehouse with Loudness - representing some of the hardest sounds of TML 2018 - taking over. Breaking the sound barrier with loud and distorted beats is central to whatever Loudness does, and with a line-up including Warface, E-Force, Bass Chaserz, Deetox, and Future Noize, the Cage can only get even more sweaty and confusing – which is exactly what Tomorrowland has in mind for you. 11

BRAIDS & BEATS

BELGIUM’S FINEST

If you think that Belgium’s most famous export product is its national team at this year’s World Cup or its delicious fries, you are terribly mistaken. There’s one thing we do better than anyone else in the world and that is the fine art of brewing beer. Belgian beer is the best beer in the world, and Jupiler is the best Belgian pilsener beer. Period. Luckily for you, you get the chance to taste this nectar of the gods in style at The Brewery, hosted by Jupiler. At this loftily decorated stage, DJs like Regi, Mass, Junior, and Todd Helder play intimate sets right in front of you. Todd Helder: “It’s absolutely insane to play at the Brewery stage. After 5 years of producing and 2 years of DJ’ing, this is a huge step in my career. It’s an experience beyond belief. I can only advise everyone to come down here, get yourself a nice cold beer in Jupiler’s styled alu-bottles, and enjoy the music and the moment!” You can find The Brewery next to the big info stand on the way to the Freedom Stage.

At the court next to the Freedom Stage, you can strengthen your inner self at the various food stands, you can have your skin permanently embellished with a Tomorrowland tattoo, and you can even get a new hairdo by none other than Sebastian hairstyling. Just drop by the stand and discuss the possibilities with your personal stylist. “We don’t actually cut hair,” the team from Sebastian explain, “we just style it. We have a couple of photos and examples here to serve as inspiration, and we focus on today’s festival trends. Flower chains and twin braids rolled up onto the head are our big shots at the moment.” And the treatment works perfectly, as freshly styled customer Elena explains: “I was

quite happy with my hair this morning, but this is definitely an improvement. I wouldn’t have come up with this myself but now my hair really looks like I belong at Tomorrowland!”

A SPARKLING VIEW OF THE MAINSTAGE

WALL OF UNITY

Every once in a while, you should allow yourself to take step back from the madness, give your legs a rest and tangle up your tongue in an ice cold coupe of bubbles. Way up high on the hill in front of the Mainstage, Vallformosa Cava hosts its lounge bar on the second floor of the Tomorrowland Restaurant. With a unique view of those thousands of people and the formidable piece of art that is the Mainstage, visitors of the Vallformosa lounge can sit back and relax while sipping on a glass of sparkling liquid gold. No less than eight little dishes of finger food are being served by J&M Catering as well, so if a moment of reflection is what you’re after, the Vallformosa lounge is the place to be.

It’s all about the bigger picture, isn’t it? At the Bridge House, you can take that phrase literally, as Lipton urges you to join in by adding your picture to their wall-sized collage. Lipton installed the biggest photobooth in the world, allowing you to send in your picture from the Internet, rather than limit things to a cramped little cubicle with a camera inside. The world’s your photobooth, and all you have to do is put your picture up on your Instagram profile - make sure your profile’s public! - and add the hashtag #LIPTONBETTERTOGETHER. After a couple of minutes, you can drop by and get your picture printed at pocket size and added to the collage, whose true meaning will be revealed later today. It’s a great way to take a memory that will last not just in your head and in cyberspace, but in the real world, too.

MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE

The ocean holds many secrets long lost to history – but every now and then, a glass-covered message turns up on the shore. If you had only one piece of paper and one bottle to put it in, knowing that you'd have no way to determine who will read your words, and when… What message would you toss into the waves? VJ is 31 and travelled all the way from London to Planaxis. “Too bad you’re missing out on all the fun!” she wrote on her piece of paper. “No matter who will find it, or in what year, they’ll know it was one hell of a party!”

Redgy (33) has a message for his mother. “Dear mom, I wish you were here. Lots of love.” He smiles: “She probably won’t read it, but whoever does will know that there’s nothing that could tear our bond apart, not even the seven seas.”

Maria (18) from England pens her letter with a big smile on her face. “At Tomorrowland, people unite with so much love, we all share the same passion.” Maria: “Whoever finds this letter will know that they should travel to Tomorrowland as fast as they can.”

Oceane (19) from Switzerland writes, “I’ve been dreaming about Tomorrowland for a long time. And now that I am here, I can only say that it’s even better than in my dreams. If you ever have a chance to visit: do it.” Oceane just wants to let the world now that Tomorrowland is the best place on Earth.

Jennifer (22) and Nikki (20) can’t decide on what to write. Nikki: “Our message to the world should be positive.” Jennifer agrees, and after a while they take down the sweet words: “You are beautiful, live today!” and finish their letter with a drawing of a heart.

“This is something I learned in the last couple of years and would like everyone to live by. It will make your life so much easier,” Argenis (32) from the Dominican Rupublic says. He then writes: “Don’t take life too seriously!”

“Make love, not war.” That is the message Chantal and her friends Inez and Annamarie (all 34) write down. Chantal: “If there were one message I would like someone to find it would be this. No matter where the waves would wash it ashore, it will never lose its power.”

CAMPING GAS DISPOSAL

Love Tomorrow wants to thank you for your recycling efforts so far. The People of Tomorrow are environmentally aware and enthusiastic; a very encouraging combination. You have made great use of the Recycle Kits, and have made DreamVille even more beautiful. As you dive into the final day of your journey, this is a reminder to keep separating your waste. Don’t simply throw your rubbish in the first bin you see. Have a look at the sorting signs and make sure to put your stuff in the right one. Every single one of you can make a positive contribution and keep Mother Nature happy. Let’s continue on the right path and make a difference.

Reminder to those of you who have been cooking: bring your camping gas cans to your District House! Staff there will have the correct bins for them. Do not dispose of them in general waste! This can cause explosions at the waste processing site.

As you continue on to the last day of your magnificent journey, we hope you have enjoyed your sacred space at DreamVille for relaxation and for moments to re-energize. When you leave, please leave a positive trace – pack your camping gear, together with all the memories and the friendships you have gained. Take it with you to wherever your journey goes next. However, if circumstances don’t allow you to take your camping gear along, please drop off your stuff at the CAMP2CAMP Big Bags at your District House. This way, your gear will get a second life, and can be rented out at Tomorrowland next year. Besides, the site is kept as magnificent as it was when you arrived!

You must have noticed them around, but what is the overall concept of the Recycle Club? As you are (sadly…) breaking up your encampments tomorrow, it is important to know that the Recycle Club is here to help, by means of their Teams and the Clubhouse. By now you must have seen the Recycle Teams; an enthusiastic flock of ambassadors dressed in green. They represent the Recycle Club and communicate the sorting message to the People of Tomorrow. Have you noticed their shoulder bags? They are made out of old Tomorrowland banners from former Dreamville trash points! How cool is that? The teams are coordinated from the Recycle Clubhouse, located right next to the Marketplace. Its hosts have collected lots of correctly sorted PMD bags and cups from all of you! What’s more, the People of Tomorrow have been very positive about the 3D furniture made from PMD waste and recycled cups. Happy campers relaxed at 3D-printed tables and benches, and flew high on the 3D-printed swings. If you haven’t checked out the Clubhouse yet, make sure to do so before your Journey continues to other places! 19

The restaurant is designed in a magnificent art nouveau style, with plants and touches of wood everywhere. It’s a green oasis deep inside the madness. There’s a coming and going of waiters that are serving tables, cleaning up and making sure that everyone’s wine glasses stay full. In the kitchen, the cooks display an octopus-like ability to put together the many little pieces of food art on the plates. Before a dish leaves the kitchen, chefs Nick Bril and Matthias Speybrouck lay their eagle’s eyes upon every single platter, making sure that the level of perfection stays at a firm 100%. Nick Bril, two-star chef of Antwerp-based restaurant The Jane, explains: “The concept consists out of two main elements: I’m responsible for two bites and the first course, the Jong Keukengeweld chefs take over the kitchen for the main course and some extras. Today’s an extra special day, as Roger is here as well to serve a dessert. The whole idea comes from the Tastes of the World TV show we made. Last year, when we first opened up this restaurant, we flew in six chefs from all over the world to Tomorrowland and gave them free reign to bombard the People of Tomorrow with their signature flavours. This year, we’re keeping things local with the chefs of the Jong Keukengeweld programme. They’re all young chefs, immensely talented, running restaurants that really stand out. Today, it’s Matthias turn, and he’s actually an old colleague of mine.” “The minute they asked me to come and cook at Tomorrowland, my brain immediately started racing,” Matthias Speybrouck of Va et Vient in Kortrijk says. “I made it my sole purpose to come up with a menu that would tick off all the boxes. It had to be super tasty, it needed to express the spirit of the festival, and last but not least, it would be great if it could be prepared for a lot of people in very little time. The dishes needed to go ‘bang’ straight away, we wanted the flavours to explode. I started thinking what I would want to eat at

a festival: a good piece of meat, the freshness of a salad and a pizza, right? Jong Keukengeweld also prides itself on cooking with local products from Flanders, so I combined those with my signature flavours. We’re having pizza with Belgian brie cheese, hummus with black beans, hearts of lettuce with curry crème, and the main course is confit lam’s neck with a creme of black garlic, confit citron to have a pinch of sour in there, and duqqa, which is an Egyptian mix of herbs,” Matthias tells us while adding the finishing touches to the first set of dishes to leave the kitchen. “A great follow-up from Matthias to my dishes,” Nick Bril says, “as they also incorporate flavours from different parts of the world. I took inspiration from my new book ‘33’, with hummus and a vinaigrette of lentils accompanied by Arabic toast bread. The other dish is bumbu Bali with roasted squid, followed by my ceviche with aji amarillo, pomelo, and granita of pisco sour.” Yesterday, there was a little extra for the visitors of Aperto as Het Gebaar chef and Tomorrowland regular Roger van Damme dropped by for a sweet touch: “We’re making a doughnut of white chocolate and vanilla panna cotta. We then glaze it with red jelly and a combination of strawberry, basil, raspberry and a drop of Kriek beer to keep it fresh. Cooking food at Tomorrowland means not being satisfied with playing the final of the Champions League, but winning the final of the World Cup. I can’t compare this to the quality we serve in my own restaurant, because you tend to do even better when you’re cooking for friends, like the ones here at Tomorrowland.” Nick Bril agrees: “Tomorrowland brings back good food to the festival world. It used to be all about hamburgers and fries, but Tomorrowland stepped up the game for everyone. All the specialized restaurants at Tomorrowland are sold out, which proves that people really want to eat proper food, even at festivals. They’re not only here to rave and eat burgers, they want all of their senses to be satisfied.”

This year, the Aperto restaurant is also a bit of a preview of Mesa, a brand-new restaurant in Antwerp which is powered by Tomorrowland and will open its doors later this year. Mesa will bring the Tastes of the World concept into practice, serving food inspired by tastes from every part of the world. It will be all about sharing food and drinking cocktails. Creative cocktail designer Paul Morel will be responsible for the beverages and has developed a special cocktail to announce the coming of Mesa. “The Mesa cocktail is inspired by different parts of the world,” Paul explains. “Its main ingredients are ginger, lemongrass, citrus, kaffir lime and vodka. It’s a combination with a fresh taste, so it’s easy drinkable, especially in this hot weather. “

WIN A MESA DINNER The Mesa restaurant will be opened on September 22 and is located in Antwerp. Reservations start on August 14, but if you can’t wait that long, Tomorrowland Today is giving away one of Mesa’s very first tables. All you need to do to win is send a picture of yourself with the best dish you’ve eaten here at Tomorrowland to today@tomorrowland.com. Who knows – maybe you’ll be one of the lucky first few to be dining at Mesa?

WELL-RESTED FOR TOMORROW

If there’s one thing you need to remember to get you through the weekend, it’s the fact that a good night’s sleep is the key to surviving these shenanigans. Looking after your well-being in the weeks before and during the festival are Penta Hotels, providing Tomorrowland-themed hotels in Belgium and Germany with complimentary cocktails for Global Journey guests from all around the world. The Penta-experience continues at DreamVille, where they host 5 tents at the DreamLodge, a luxurious full-serviced camping area with its own restaurant, bars, and beauty parlour. With access to the VIP deck of The Gathering and a private chill-out zone called the Montagoe, this is glamping like you’ve never glamped before!

YOUR GINERATION

One of the most beautiful hidden places to discover at Tomorrowland is the Brasa Chill-out Garden where you can gin up at the Fever-Tree OriGINs bar. There’s not a drink in this world as popular as gin & tonic at the moment, and Fever-Tree serves it with their various tonics and a selection of the best gins. At the OriGINs bar, you can unwind under one of the tipi tents or in the sofas while enjoying an incredible view of the LEAF stage. But the main reason to drop by this marvellous location is the infamous Tomorrowland Special cocktail. This meticulously crafted beverage consists of Fever-Tree Ginger Ale, Beefeater 24, zest of grapefruit and mint. We’ve heard someone describe it as an explosion of pleasure on your tongue, and they weren’t joking.

THE MUSIC NEVER STOPS AN IMPRESSIVE FLAG WAS HOISTED IN MEMORY OF TIM BERGLING, ALIAS AVICII, BY 200 FELLOW SWEDES. A TOUCHING TRIBUTE: “WE DECIDED IT HAD TO BE AS BIG AS POSSIBLE.”

For those of you that wish to stay on point music-wise 24/7, from the last beat resounding from the Mainstage to the very first bassdrum at the next Daybreak Session – this is your jam. Open your Spotify app, search for Tomorrowland, and you’ll find yourself a whole set of exquisite playlists of various genres and styles to break the silence. Beat up your campsite with some stage-host playlist by the likes of Abracadabra, ANTS, and Monstercat, and dive into the tracks that the artists playing here want you to hear. IBIZA BROTHERS

2018

DIMITRI VEGAS & LIKE MIKE’S GARDEN OF MADNESS

Without any doubt, they’re Tomorrowland’s biggest sweethearts, and they’re Belgium’s biggest DJs by far. They’re just as big on the White Island of Ibiza, though. Bringing the block-rocking beats to Ushuïa with their very own Garden of Madness event every Tuesday are none other than brothers in arms, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. The boys have come a long way since moving to the island in 2003 and playing their first set at Tomorrowland in 2009. In between taxiing from the island of dreams to Tomorrowland, they took a moment to share their thoughts. Until the end of the season you guys will be raising heaven and hell over Ibiza every Tuesday with your Garden of Madness nights. One can only imagine how mad those nights are. Could you paint that picture for us please? Mike: “Oh man, it goes off big time! We’ve played at many parties in

Ibiza over the years, but last year undoubtedly marked one of our best summers on the island. The Garden of Madness concept we are doing together with Tomorrowland has become a unique show that is unlike anything else - even in Ibiza! Dimitri: “Our advice is to just come to one of the shows and soak up the atmosphere, because it really is something very special! The energy in the crowd is insane, and the venue makes the feel of the concept work really well. The marvelous production from the team behind Tomorrowland is a great help, too.” Who will be your guests this summer, joining in on the Madness in Ibiza? Mike: “We’ve got a big bunch of close friends coming over to party with us this summer! Everyone from Diplo, Steve Aoki, Steve Angello, and W&W to our little brother Lost Frequencies. Dimitri: “There will also be a series of unannounced ultra-special surprise

24

The STORY OF PLANAXIS

guests, so come over and check it out for yourself.” Do you consider the artists that are coming over to be your friends? Will you battle each other B2B during the parties? Dimitri: “We put together a line-up of close friends and artists whom we respect and whose music we love.” Mike: “Our main goal is to give the fans what they want - with a little extra - so our choices are rooted in music, before anything else. We’ll definitely do some special B2B’s across the summer, but we’re keeping those occasions a surprise for now.” For the People of Tomorrow who have never been there, what kind of place is Ushuïa? Mike: “Ushuïa is a venue that possesses an incredibly unique vibe. The experience Ushuïa offers is high-end, but with a very forward-thinking attitude towards the modern era of clubbing.” Dimitri: “Just take a simple look at the day-to-day line-ups and you’ll get a sense of the level of fun they have to offer. It retains the spirit of Ibiza but gives it a new twist. It’s a great open-air venue where there’s airplanes flying overhead as you’re looking at one of the best stage setups in the world - it’s fair to say it’s pretty much the best venue on the island.” When you’re not working or playing, what are you up to? Do you still party like there’s no tomorrow? Mike: “We are massive music fans. It’s great to go out and check out other DJs when they’re playing from time to time. When we have the chance and when we’re not on the road, we will go out and party.”

TOMORROWL AND TODAY

Dimitri: “We also take our time to relax and chill out. We have to recharge from the madness of our shows. It’s good to unwind and kick back with family and friends. I just love to take my boat out and go for a cruise at sea.” How does your family feel about these crazy lives you live? Do you ever get asked if you’ll ever grow up? Dimitri: “They absolutely love it! Music keeps all of us young at heart, so I’m sure they’re not worrying about that. Even our grandparents still come to a lot of shows.” Your grandparents were part of the audience when you played here in 2013. What was it like for them to be part of the Madness? Do they join you in Ibiza? Mike: “They love the whole vibe. It’s pretty crazy for them to be a part of this madness and get to share the moment. And for us it’s pretty exciting as well, since we get to share all of this with them.” Dimitri: “Yeah, we do have our family over and join us in Ibiza over the season. It’s a beautiful island that everyone should come and experience.” How do people get in on the Garden of Madness events? Do all tickets go through presale or will you also have tickets at the door? Mike: “We definitely recommend you buy your tickets online in advance! The shows sell out and I promise you it will be an experience you don’t want to miss. Trust me: it’ll be wild!” Dimitri: “It’s growing each week, so come and join us!”

THUNDERDOME

TRANCE ENERGY

THE MASQUERADE

THEATRE FORMIDABLE

CORE

The delicate sound of Thunder returns. Hardcore fans love it so much they tattoo the Wizard on their shoulders, back, bum, and God knows where else. The logo pops up everywhere around the globe, representing dear memories to fans of the original hardcore and gabber sound. It’s nigh on impossible to capture the hyperenergetic feel of Thunderdome in words; you’ll just have to come down and feel the bass thumping through your lungs yourself. DJs on this stage are all veterans of the scene and include DJ Promo, Buzz Fuzz, Neophyte, and Rob ft. MC Joe.

The ecstatic arpeggios of trance music; who doesn’t love them? One of the classic dance music genres, trance is regaining momentum right now with the style taking over the hottest areas of East London. But the hipsters weren’t ahead of the masses, not this time. Trance Energy events started to become hugely popular among ravers right after the turn of the millennium, with the music being extant at least five years before that. Trance Energy is back once again for your pleasure with heavyweights Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Gate, and Markus Schulz topping the bill. Lift yourself up and get euphoric. What are you waiting for?

As far as deep house gatherings go, German producer Claptone and his crew nail them like few others in the scene do. Even though The Masquerade’s beats are perfectly suited for Balearic beaches, you can be confident that those sweet and loving vibes will be smoothly transferable to the bubbly underwater dreamworld that is Planaxis. Headline artists to look forward to here are the ultra-lush and ever-funny German producer Butch, Bayside’s hero of pumping four-to-the-floor vibes, Claude VonStroke, and Mr. Claptone himself, of course. Dig up your golden mask, if you have one, and get ready to let the music move your body!

COONE FOCUS ON GLORIOUS SUNDAY MAINSTAGE | 17h50 - 18h50 A Belgian native and relentless advocate of hardstyle music, Coone has been a mainstay of Tomorrowland’s hard dance programming for years. Now, at Planaxis, his biggest dream is finally coming true: he is set to play a Mainstage set during Weekend 1, besides his own stage hosting in Weekend 2. Here are his thoughts on these two weekends of high-BPM, heavy-hitting madness.

really happy with the episodes so far, and the feedback from the fans is better than what I could have hoped for.”

It’s finally happening: hardstyle, and hardstyle by Coone no less, at Tomorrowland’s Mainstage. Bringing hardstyle to the masses has always been your goal, and now you’re finally there. What went through your head when you heard that you got the gig? “I honestly couldn’t believe what I heard. I remember my first reaction was quite lame, because I was so overwhelmed! And then moments later I realized what was actually happening. It was quite emotional, to be honest.”

“Once you’ve got a taste of it, you’ll be wanting more”

Leading up to Tomorrowland, you’ve been releasing a documentary series called ‘Trip to Tomorrow’. What is it like being followed around by a camera crew all the time? How do you decide what ends up in the series? “Minutes after I heard the news of playing at the Mainstage, we came up with this idea. Everyone liked the idea, but of course we were aware about the amount of work that would come with it. I really don’t mind being followed by the camera crew all the time. Especially because I know the guys really well, so I never feel awkward or anything. The only challenge was to shoot so much relevant content in such a short period of time. I’m

A true family man, you once named a track after your daughter Faye and in Trip to Tomorrow, we witness you taking her to her first day at school. How do you balance touring life and family? Do you sometimes take them with you?

“We try to plan the shows and tours as efficiently as possible. This way, we create the right balance between my family and my life as a DJ. I rarely take them with me on tour, because it’s pretty hectic. I’d rather fly home directly after my shows to spend quality time with them there instead.” Back to hardstyle at the Mainstage – for those that don’t know, what is hardstyle music like, and why should they take the time to check out your set? “Hardstyle is something different in many ways. It’s not just faster or harder than the average EDM we all know. Hardstyle is an experience. The best way to be introduced to this music is through witnessing a live performance. This way you see how the crowd reacts to it. The combination of uplifting melodies and a powerful bass is just the best of both worlds, I guess! There is only one thing I can say for sure about this genre: once you’ve got a taste of it, you’ll be wanting more.” You’ve done some house-oriented collabs in the 29

past. Do you feel that hardstyle should remain a genre of its own, or will we be hearing more crossover sounds from you? “Hardstyle will remain a genre of its own, a home base for the core elements of the sound. But this doesn’t mean we should avoid collabs with artists from different genres. I believe this will only give hardstyle a bigger and broader platform. Working together with names from other genres allows us to introduce our sound to new listeners. Right now I have a new track together with Ummet Ozcan, for example. This track is full-on hardstyle, so working together with names like Ummet doesn’t necessarily mean we step away from our sound. As a matter of fact, most ‘outside’ names are reaching out to hardstyle producers because they see what this music can do when played live.” Besides the Mainstage show, you will be hosting your own stage during Weekend 2. How does the line-up for a thing like that come together? What role do you play in the organization of it all? “Hosting my own stage at Tomorrowland was also something I never could have dreamt of. Last year we did the first edition of Coone and the Gang and it was such a success. I’m still very grateful for the opportunity that Tomorrowland gave me. This year the Gang returns! The hosting will be held at the amazing Freedom stage. Everyone is very excited about it. Together with management we came up with the line-up for this day. Tomorrowland instantly approved the line-up, so we couldn’t be happier. This year we specifically selected acts with an international fanbase and a signature sound. This creates a more interesting dynamic throughout the day. All artists, myself included, are very excited!”

Rakka Radio Ultra Modern (Harbor House) | 15h00 – 17h00 Major Lazer calls this guy the 'Sinatra of the scene' and he may very well be as versatile as the late king of jazzpop. Rakka is not only a mashup DJ – his life is a mashup, too. Born in Belgium, the energetic producer grew up in Spain even though he is from Russian descent. Rakka went to study philosophy and saw his perception of the world as well as of music change. He polished his DJ techniques until they shone so bright the Spanish sun couldn't handle it no more and ended up choosing Belgium as his home again. Expect a wild show with lots of jumping and running behind his decks: Rakka is here to give you the DJ circus experience of a lifetime.

My House (Organ of Harmony) 21h00 – 22h30 Hailing from the funky Belgian university town of Ghent, the DeWaele brothers are musical centipedes, always busy, juggling lots of musical projects at once. Together they form Soulwax, a rock band of no small fame that can’t really be called a side-project. When they first started their incredible DJ concept 2manydjs back in 2002, no-one else thought to mix up Dolly Parton's ‘You Come Again’ with Röyksopp’s mesmerising early downbeat hit ‘Eple’. It seems pretty insane today, and it certainly was even more left-offield a decade and a half ago! You may not even have heard of the genres the siblings blend into their mix: from cheesy, over-the-top prog rock that’s too stuffy even for your dad to the most clinical and hilarious Belgian New Beat anthems, and from the deep South’s most heartbreaking country anthems to the most badass grime from East London, it’s all there. Listen to some of their mixtapes on Radio Soulwax (you can find a bottomless pile of them here!) to get in the mood for this very special performance. 2manydjs provide a creative and versatile mashup of electronic and pop music unlike anything you've ever seen – even if you don't generally listen to rock and pop, the duo’s expert showmanship provides an experience that is not to be missed!

Garden of Madness | 12h00 – 13h30

Henri PFR isn't exactly your average twentysomething. Born in 1995, the Flemish producer released his debut at the age of 14 on world-renowned DJ Armin van Buuren's label. Collaborating left and right, adding his melodic style to remixes for artists including Editors and Robin Schulz, Henri has already been awarded his first platinum record – and racked up numerous performances at Tomorrowland, where he is always a crowd favourite. There is but one conclusion to the style of this versatile young talent: the lightness Henri PFR brings to house music will make you feel that summer vibe.

Stemming from Belgian Limburg, Goldfox started spinning records at the age of 14. This vinyl junkie brings a game of electronic house, techno, breaks and acid stompers to the table, then adds a twist or two to make the groove his own. The Fox isn't just headstrong when it comes to his tunes – he has grown to be a renowned promotor as well, thanks in part to his involvement in the old school concept Rave Our Souls. DJ'ing is what he does best, though. Goldfox has spent more than half his life behind the decks and is building up his reputation steadily, having appeared not only at Tomorrowland but also, for example, at Pukkelpop and Dour.

German-based producer Levent Faki is here to spice up your Sunday with that Berlin sound! His breakthrough tracks 'My Black Sheep' and 'Mekong Delta' put Faki on the map in 2007. By then, he had already been Berghain's in-house DJ for 3 years – even though he only moved to Berlin in 2003! In 2017, he released a massive remix of Radio Slave's song 'Grindhouse'. The Turkishborn techno DJ founded a number of record labels over the years, dedicated to releasing a wide range of techno music that upholds his love for the genre as well as his standard of creativity, balance and funkiness.

German DJ and producer Dixon has held the #1 spot in the Resident Advisor DJ Poll since 2013. Being the odd one out as a deep house DJ in a city known for techno music, Dixon slowly defined his sound over the years, growing into the artist he is today. In 2015, Berlin newspaper Die Tageszeitung wrote that Dixon had 'redefined the sound of Berlin'. As Dixon likes to collaborate with other artists such as Âme and Henrik Schwarz, he often creates his own edits of other artists' tracks to have them match his own sound and flow. This makes his sets creative, enjoyable and unique yet somehow familiar.

Paul Kalkbrenner DJ’ing is the standard way to perform in the club music scene, and many of Paul Kalkbrenner’s friends and colleagues stick to that tradition when they’re touring the world. Paul started performing his music live for a funny reason: too impatient to let

Paul switched from DJ’ing to performing live in 1998, he was one of the very few to do so, and with time comes experience. This shows in his very particular way of working, where he uses recognizable elements of his songs and rearranges them live on stage. The concentrated look on his face is telling; it’s not easy to get it perfectly right in front of a huge crowd, no matter how many times you’ve done it before. Kalkbrenner wouldn’t be Kalkbrenner, though, if he didn’t send a magical kaleidoscope of his own chopped-up sounds into the balmy Belgian sky today, and we’re one hundred percent certain he will. All for your pleasure.

Dutch DJ duo Deepend prides itself in thinking outside the box. Determined to keep their audiences moving, they combine grooves, pop and melodic elements with a firm base of house music. They previously released tracks with artists like Graham Candy and Sam Feldt and made remixes of songs by Matt Simons and James Blunt. Supported by major names including Bakermat and Robin Schulz, they signed two singles onto Armada Music, Armin van Buuren's label, in 2014, and grew consistently from there. All in all, the sunny sounds these boys produce are deserving of a warm welcome the underwater realm of Planaxis.

Boasting a consistent high spot in DJ Mag’s Top 100, Dutch powerhouse producer Fedde le Grand is no stranger to any of you beautiful souls who love to dance. He continues to perform all over the globe, remixing tracks from a wide range of artists like Madonna, Erick E and Coldplay, and working with artists in many different genres. His latest release, 'Hit the Club', is an adventurous collaboration with Korean dance artist Raiden that explores the boundaries of dance. Of course, older successes on Le Grand's proven track record won't be ignored at Tomorrowland, either. So get ready to put your hands up for Detroit!
