Welcome to the August edition of The Little Mag That Fits In Your Bag For Info On The Go! … also known as the ‘Bible of Axarquia’ or ‘the little mag with the big impact’. Whatever you call it, it is the most popular magazine in the Axarquia area and is full of funny content to keep you, the reader, happy — along with providing you with many businesses old and new which are easy to find in the A5 bag-sized magazine.
If you do use any businesses in our magazine, please tell the business owner that you saw it in The Sentinella magazine; this will be a help to them and also to us. There are several new businesses popping up around the Axarquia area and this is great to see — one to check out this month is The Dead Monkey Bar in Torre del Mar (more infomation on page 34 and 35). Some businesses are taking this quieter-than-usual time to take the opportunity to renovate or build on their current brand, with improvements ready for the busy times again. The Taj Mahal in Puente don Manuel has had a revamp in the restaurant and opened a Sky Lounge on top of it, which is definitely worth a visit. Turn to page 53 for more info.
Lovely Sarah, owner of The Hair and Beauty Salon in Puente don Manuel and Izzi & Capelli Salon in Torre del Mar, has taken this opportunity to re-brand her salons with some lovely new modern signs. She’s also had professional photos taken of all her staff for their brand-new website, and there are many

On that note, we hope you are all having a lovely summer. This time last year it seemed to fly by and it seems to be doing the same this year too. Sneaky snake An Austrian man sustained an eye-watering injury when he was nibbled by a 5ft python hiding in his toilet. The 65-year-old got a little more than he’d bargained for when he plonked himself on the loo seat. Police said the man had just sat down when he felt a ‘pinch’ on his genitals. When the unlucky Graz resident stood up to inspect the bowl, he was stunned to see a huge albino python staring back at him. The snake reportedly belonged to a neighbour and had escaped before choosing the unsuspecting man’s toilet as a nice spot for a rest. A local reptile expert and police officers were drafted in to remove the unwelcome guest. The bitten man was taken to hospital and treated for ‘minor injuries,’ but luckily escaped with little more than a nasty shock and a story to tell.
Wiped out In scenes similar to those in the UK last year, there are few rolls of toilet paper to be found on Aussie supermarket shelves – but with a bit of luck, Aussies can win one in the arcade instead. A wave of panic set in as various states forced residents into new, strict lockdowns and shop shelves were stripped bare of essential and sought-after items. And in the Covid-19 pandemic, no item has been more desirable than loo paper. However one prankster in north Queensland decided to have a laugh by filling his ‘skill tester’ machine with dozens of precious rolls. Brenden Wright invited people to test their skill on the Toy Soldier machine which costs AUS$2 to play and gives users three attempts to bag a bog roll. He told the Townsville Bulletin: ‘It started off as a joke between friends about toilet paper shortage. They all think it’s hilarious and a great idea. You just have to look at the bright side of life during these uncertain times — as they say, a day without laughter is a day wasted.’

Strange News (Continued)
British Birdbaffler ‘Freak weather’ has been blamed for hundreds of thousands of racing pigeons suddenly vanishing into thin air on the same day. Up to 250,000 birds were released in some 50 races all across Britain recently, but only 10% managed to return in the expected time.Thousands are still missing, and some have subsequently been spotted as far away as Holland and Majorca. The mass disappearance has prompted some to dub the date ‘the worst day in the sport’s history’. Disappearances were first highlighted in reports about a race from Peterborough to the North East, in which more than half of the 9,000 pigeons taking part went AWOL. Dene Simpson, race controller for the South West Wales Federation of pigeon fanciers, said the same also happened to him and his friends. A huge number of the birds they’d lovingly reared from chicks suddenly disappeared without a trace. Dene, 38, from Swansea, said: ‘We’d let ours
go from Swindon at midday on the same Saturday, but of the 1,400 that went out, only about 200 to 300 made it home. When we looked on social media later on, we saw that lots of other federations around the UK had experienced something similar. ‘I think something invisible to the naked eye occurred — something that messed with the birds’ internal satnav and caused them to veer off course drastically.’

Amazing Animals
Amazing Giraffe Facts
They are the tallest animal on earth.
The average lifespan of a giraffe in the wild is 25 years.
Male giraffes are called bulls. Females are known as cows and baby giraffes are referred to as calves. Giraffes have black tongues that can extend approx. 20 inches. Their tongues are prehensile which means that it can grab and hold onto objects.
A female giraffe gives birth to a single offspring after a gestation period of approximately 15 months. They give birth standing up. Baby giraffes are 6 feet tall and weigh an average of 150 pounds when they are born. Each giraffe has unique markings that distinguish it from others. No two giraffes have exactly the same makings.
A giraffe's neck can measure up to 5 feet in length.
A giraffe can run at a speed of 35 miles per hour. They have also been known to jump up to 6 feet. Male giraffes stand up to 18 feet tall and weigh up to 4,000 pounds. Females grow up to 16 feet tall and weigh approximately 2,500 pounds.
Giraffes need very little sleep and may only sleep between 20 minutes to two hours out of a twenty-four hour period. Giraffes have elongated vertebrae in their necks that protrude at the top of the giraffe's head forming small blunt horns.
A giraffe eats about 140 pounds of food a day.
The hooves of an adult giraffe are about 12 inches wide. A male giraffe can tell if a female is fertile by tasting her urine. Male giraffes perform a type of dance to impress fertile females.

What’s New This Month
This month we would like to welcome Dave and Olive to all our readers.
Dave and Olive have recently opened the newest, coolest kick-ass Rockabilly bar in Torre del Mar. The name is, ‘The Dead Monkey Bar’ and is situated in the Viña Malaga area just around the corner and along from Alfonso’s chemist. The new bar will specialise in fried chicken and David plans on bringing his twist to ‘fried chicken’ to the people of Torre Del Mar. Once tasted, you will come back again and again for the finger licking fried chicken, prepared with David's secret blend of 10 herbs and spices. Turn to pages 34 and 35 to read a little more and for their contact details. Dave and Olive are looking forward to welcoming you all.
We would like to welcome back a client that will be familar with many of you, Audrey who used to make the delicious carvery every Sunday at Plaza Lounge has now stopped this business but in the same location has opened The Plaza Lounge BAR’N. Audrey will be serving meals and tapas every evening from 5pm - 9pm during August, their speciality being Cornish style Fish & Chips cooked by their very own Cornish Chef. Plus, spread the word that in September they will be doing Sunday lunches, also cooked by the Cornish Chef with a Cornish twist! The Bar’N will also be a showroom for boutique items for sale.
Audrey has had a tough time since opening The BAR’N as the little pretty square where her bar is situated had been dug up and this made the road unpassable for 2 months meaning people were unable to collect any large products clients had
purchased. She can happily say the road is now open again for business and welcomes everyone to come and look at her wares and to eat out on the new Plaza. See main advert on page 31
We also introduce to you Michelle, she is from a little way up the coast near to Benagalbon and introduces us to her property called El Castillo, with luxury sea views. She caters for all kinds of occasions including; holiday rentals, weddings, events, private parties and much more. Look at her advert on page 85 and visit her website and Facebook page. The villa is stunning. At the same location Michelle also offers Aqua Aerobics in their private pool which has the most amazing sea and mountain views. For more information turn to page 87
Other news this month, the Taj Mahal based in Venta Baja, Puente don Manuel, has had an extension to their restaurant and now have a fabulous ‘Sky Lounge’. The Lounge is situated directly on top of the restaurant and is the perfect place to enjoy a drink either before eating your curry or a place to relax after you have eaten. The bar is open for non-diners too, so if you just fancy chilling with a drink, listening to some nice music and watching the sunset, then this is the place for you. You will be served by the lovely Tammy in the Sky Lounge and Kasif the owner, will serve you in the restaurant. See their advert on page 13 and for more information about the Sky Lounge on page 53 If you have a business in the Axarquia region and would like to promote it so it’s in the hands of our readers, contact us on 664 210 468 or email: sales@thesentinella.com We look forward to promoting and distributing your advert throughout Axarquia!

This is how it manifests:
Who’s Having A Bad Day?
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I walk towards the garage, I notice post on the porch table that I brought up from the postbox earlier..
I decide to go through the post before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk post in the bin under the table, and notice that the bin is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the rubbish first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the postbox when I take out the rubbish anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my cheque book off the table, and see that there is only one cheque left. My extra cheques are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my cheques, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head towards the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye, they need water. I put the Coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realise that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't
remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: *the car isn't washed *the bills aren't paid *there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter *the flowers don't have enough water, *there is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book, *I can't find the remote, *I can't find my glasses, *and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.
I realise this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail..... Don't laugh - if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

The Dead Monkey Bar - NEW In Torre Del Mar
The newest, coolest kick-ass Rockabilly bar in Torre del Mar
Dave and Olive arrived in Spain in 2019 and saw a gap in the market for an American Rockabilly style bar. Olive previously owned bars and restaurants in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. She played in several bands in the UK and occasionally belts out the odd tune at karaoke nights. David originally from Glasgow moved to Canada as a child and trained as a chef. With his background in fine dining, David plans on bringing his twist to ‘fried chicken’ to the people of Torre Del Mar. The Dead Monkey Bar is hidden away in the tranquil Viña Malaga zone where you can enjoy an ice cold Estrella Galicia, or one of their international lagers whilst sitting in the
shade of the orange trees. The music is a toe tapping selection of the catchiest American Rockabilly, Rock n Roll and Country. Once tasted, you will come back again and again for the finger licking fried chicken, prepared with David's secret blend of 10 herbs and spices, using the freshest locally sourced ingredients. Why is it called the Dead Monkey Bar? Pay them a visit and find out :) See main advert below Pictures from their opening day opposite

Out And About In Torrox
Torrox is the name of a collection of locations situated east of Torre Del Mar. This is a popular spot to live and holiday for both Spanish and other European nations with one big factor being it has the best climate in Europe. Each of these places have much to offer in their own right and collectively, they form a lovely area to live, work and relax. Torrox Costa is located just 15km from Torre Del Mar. Torrox Costa has a totally different character and personality to its near neighbour. Like much of this coast, there’s an impressive promenade that sweeps the length of the beaches here. At its eastern end, just past the lighthouse, the beach is dog friendly and is a great spot to let your furry friend run along the shoreline.
Torrox Pueblo is situated at the foothills of the Alpujarra mountains, a couple of miles inland from Torrox Costa. This is traditional white-washed village set in a green valley. There’s a traditional Spanish feel to this small village, despite it being the home to many people from other parts of the world. Located between Torrox Costa and Pueblo, Torrox Park is a large collection of urbanisations that are popular relocation spots with those who decide to make this area of Axarquía their home. There’s property to suit every budget and style: spacious villas, townhouses and apartments along with a large and well equipped mobile home park that allows all year living. Whilst, in itself, Torrox Park, doesn’t offer much for day trippers, many visitors stay here as homes are frequently listed for holiday rental. It does provide all the services required for a smooth stay or relocation: bars, restaurants, supermarkets as well as doctors, chemists, hairdressers etc.
The combination of Torrox Costa, Pueblo and Park is a winning one. Each has their own distinct character but each are connected to form an excellent place to stay, explore and maybe even to live. Shop Local - Support Your Local Community

Wise Words
Hats off to the witty burglars who stole my CD collection with the exception of “There is Nothing Left to Lose” by the Foo Fighters. I hope that when sentencing, the judge takes into account their splendid sense of humour.
What's all this nonsense about that 66-year-old Romanian woman being the world's oldest mum? My mum's 77. Beat that.
Imagine my shock at getting a letter from my doctor advising me I only had a month to live but thankfully the letter was not for me but for my son with the same name who lives with us.
What is it with diabetics? One minute they're on the floor with a loved one standing by screaming “Give him some chocolate! Give him some chocolate!" The next day someone offers them a piece of chocolate and quick as a flash they say “No thanks, I'm diabetic.” I wish they'd get their story straight.

If, as Freddie Mercury claimed, fat bottomed girls make the rocking world go round, isn't it about time that the city of Glasgow received some recognition for its contribution to astrophysics?
These so-called speed bumps are a joke. If anything, they slow you down.
I heard recently that, on average, Boris Johnson receives two turds in the post each week. What I want to know is, who's sending the other one?
I have just returned from a diplomatic trip to the Congo and I can testify that at no point did I see anyone drinking Um Bongo.
Why is it that pubs won't serve me if I'm drunk, but McDonalds continue serving fat people? Its hardly fair.
Never mind ventriloquists like Keith Harris and Roger DeCourcey. What about Professor Stephen Hawking? I saw him on telly blathering on about galaxies for hours and I never saw his lips move once. Genius
The person who coined the phrase “as different as chalk and cheese” obviously hadn't tasted Kwik Save's cheddar.
They say football is a game of two halves. Not for me it isn't. I regularly down eight or nine pints whilst watching a live game on Sky TV in my local.

Old Age
Working people frequently ask us retired people what we do to make their days interesting.
Well, for example, the other day my wife and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a copper writing out a parking ticket.

wrote.
Personally, we didn't care. We came into town by bus. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. It's important at our age.
We went up to him and said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?' He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres.
So my wife called him a s***head. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windscreen with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he

It’s All Change At The Taj Mahal - Venta Baja
53
Everything has changed at the Taj Mahal, Venta Baja, Puente don Manuel
Many of you will know Ali, the previous owner of The Taj Mahal restaurant in Puente don Manuel, recently he has handed the reins over to his eldest son Kasif, while he has moved back to Pakistan to persue other adventures. Kasif certainly hasn’t let the grass grow under his feet!
Kasif has recently revamped the restaurant to transform it into a much more modern feel and at the same time made it much brighter. I had also heard that he had introduced a ‘Sky Lounge’, so it was time to go and try it out. I decided to take the family for a peek and some food. My daughters haven’t been there for a few years, when they walked in they straight away mentioned how nice it looked.
We sat down and as usual Kasif was as polite as ever and took our drinks order. We ordered our food which included; Chicken Kormas, Prawn Tikka Massala, a Chicken Makkani, rices, naan bread, delicious onion bhajis and of course the nice crunchy poppadums with mango chutney and other sauces.
The curries were exceptional, really rich, thick sauces and perfectly spiced to our requirements.
Once suitably fed it was upstairs to try out the Sky Lounge. This is the major change that Kasif has implemented since his father handed the management over to him. He has built a roof terrace where you can enjoy a chilled out drink before, or indeed after your meal. He has named it ‘The Sky Lounge.’ There will be occasional Live Music too. What a great idea!!
So up the steps we went, and wow! What a beautiful area. About 10 tables adorned the terrace, a splendid Chiringuito looking bar in the corner, run by the lovely Tammy, along with spectacular views!
We ordered a round of drinks, chilled out listening to the great music and took the opportunity to take a few pictures of the sun setting over Puente don Manuel.
The Sky Lounge is a great addition to this young man’s restaurant. With his never stop thinking about improvements and his
enthusiasm, he makes the Taj Mahal a must go to destination, either for a chilled out drink in the Sky Lounge or the full works, drinks and dinner. Whatever you choose... you won’t be disappointed!
I would definitely recommend a visit and Kasif and his staff would love to welcome you. See main advert on page 13

Halting erosion using Vetiver from VetiverSpain
Vetiver is a non-invasive clumping grass that grows rapidly to about 2 metres tall. Vetiver is used mostly to fight erosion, preserve top soil and clean contaminated water. Vetiver can be cutback a few times a year so the cuttings can be used as a beneficial mulch and a nutritious feed for farm animals. Located in Sayalonga at an elevation of 500 metres we plant all year round but Spring planting gets the best results. Vetiver loves the heat of summer to get established faster. Triana: Typical Village With A Little Bit More
Triana is located inland about 10km from the coast at Torre Del Mar. This small community is set amongst fruit trees in a fertile valley. Its traditional character makes it a popular choice with Europeans who want the real deal of Spanish life.
Triana is a white village but it is also built on flat ground so no steep climbs which is why it is a popular place to relocate. It is a recently formed village in Axarquía history dating from about the nineteenth century. This makes it very different in feel to other towns and villages nearby. Add to this, the small but wide range of services: two local supermarkets, a chemist, a couple of bars and a village school as well as the central location to major centres: Torre Del Mar, Vélez-Málaga and even the metropolis of Malaga itself and it is easy to see why a number of foreigners make this their new home. Live music and feria’s The village fair or Feria, held during July, is a lively and entertaining event with live music, dancing and celebration. This liveliness contrasts with a tiny population of a mere 700! There’s also a traditional Romeria held in June. In fact, one of Flamenco’s most famous singers was born here, José Beltrán Ortega, and there’s a plaque in tribute to him in the village as well as traditional music playing a vital part of any festivity. For a small village, there are quite a few and diverse leisure facilities: there is a public swimming pool with a nominal charge to use it all day, including a bar and children’s playground too. On the outskirts of Triana there is a small riding school where you can hire horses and ride along the dry river bed or even ride up into the mountains where the views are incredible and the tranquility wonderful. The river bed is to the south of the village and, when dry, it is a perfect place to have a leisurely walk. From here is the pretty tiny hamlet of Zorrilla, originally a bandits’ and smugglers’ village. Even its location is like a secret, with the beautiful white houses hidden from view and set among fruit groves. When the
river bed fills with water from the rain and the snow melting in the mountains, then this village is difficult to access and in the past, impossible, making it the perfect place to hide contraband. Triana is a place which might be overlooked but it is definitely worth a detour. It has charm and character and, if you decide that Axarquía should be your future home, it is certainly worth exploring as a relocation possibility.
Weekly Tuesday market Nearby to Triana and driving past the small airport, the next village on the way back towards Vélez-Málaga, there’s an unusual and unique market held on Tuesday mornings at the Jardin de Trapiche. What makes this market different is that most of the stalls are run by foreigners who have made this region their home. There’s fresh produce, clothes, cards, British food products along with stalls offering assistance to those recently relocated: insurance, real estate, internet connections and animal rescue to name just a few. All this is set in a rather lovely place. This venue is often used for weddings and private events and it can seem quite colonial with its tropical gardens and white wrought iron furniture. It’s an excellent place to get to know people and learn about this exciting area from insiders. See main advert for Trapiche Market on page 65

& t i Fru Facts as Veg Banan B
Bananas are extremely healthy and delicious aside from being very nutritious, they are also a highly convenient snack food.
The word, ‘banana’ derives from the word, ‘banan’ which is an Arabic word meaning ‘finger’. Somewhat resembling the shape of a human digit, a single banana is called a finger and is attached to a group of other bananas called a ‘hand’. Bananas float in water because they are less dense in comparison. The largest bunch of bananas was grown in the Canary Islands, weighing 287 pounds (130kg) and containing 473 single bananas.
Bananas can help lower blood pressure and protect heart health due to high potassium and low salt content.
Bananas are a rich source of carbs, which occur mainly as starch in unripe bananas and sugars in ripe bananas. According to a large analysis of many studies, daily consumption of 1.3–1.4 grams of potassium is linked to a 26% lower risk of heart disease.
Some studies indicate that this fruit is a risk factor for constipation, while others claim that bananas may have the opposite effect.
Bananas are one of the most popular fruits in the American diet.
Uganda consumes more bananas per capita (600 pounds) per year than any other country. The inside of a banana peel can help relieve itching and inflammation, such as from bug bites or poison ivy. Bananas are a fruit because they naturally contain the seeds of its plant.

Keeping A Home Bacteria And Virus Free
During the period of the pandemic, we all went through a massive learning curve, our lives were turned upside down and this was all due to a tiny 0.2 micron particle.
What we did learn very quickly, a visually clean surface in a home does not guarantee a virus or bacteria free surface. Mould spores, bacterias and virus particles need to be killed or not given the opportunity to transmit, incorrect cleaning methods can do more to spread the problem than eradicate the problem. One very misunderstood spore is mould. You might not realise it, but you're surrounded by spores, both indoors and outdoors. They range in size from three to 40 microns, less than half the width of a human hair, allowing them to float in the air unseen.
Mould acts as nature's "recycler,” feeding on dead and decaying organic material such as trees and plants, also spores often come from farm land, parks and other places rich in vegetation. Spore counts are higher after extended rainfall or in areas of high humidity. They are challenging to eliminate due to its ability to grow in wall cracks, carpet fibres and other difficult-to-reach areas. If you are puzzled how something so minute can cause building damage that can lead to demolition and serious health problems? You can read some helpful mould information explaining what spores are and the role they play in home and building infestations.
How mould spreads As mould spores drift through the air, they eventually come to settle on a surface. Mould requires nutrients, moisture and the right temperature to grow. If the conditions are right, the spores begin generating thread-like cells called hyphae, which absorb nutrients allowing mould to grow.
Negative effects of mould spores Clearly, the biggest threat posed by spores is its rapid development, starting from a corner in a room, if the environment is right for it, can infest throughout the property in just a few months. In addition, spores can cause serious health problems that are well-documented now. Since they are even smaller than pollen grains, they can be ingested into the respiratory system without getting trapped by
the normal filtering process of the nose. Inhaling mould spores can trigger allergic reactions and result in upper respiratory ailments like wheezing, coughing and itchy, runny eyes. In some cases, people who are particularly sensitive to alleges may suffer asthma attacks.
Taking control In regions of high humidity, mould can spread rapidly throughout a property, settling in fabrics and out of sight behind cupboard etc. Eventually you will see it as a black sticky substance, usually in top corners of the rooms. Peoples natural reaction is to wipe away the substance with a cleaning fluid, only to see it return a month or two later as the mould is already embedded in the property. Mould now has been classified as a category 1 health risk, the same as asbestos, therefore it should be handled by professionals. PureAzone treat mould with a none toxic electronic process which will kill the spore and any bacteria present, as it has a capacity of 600 times that of antibiotics, 3,000 times that of ultraviolet rays and 3 times that of wet antibacterial sterilisation. As we live in regions of high humidity, new spores can re-infest.
To overcome this problem, with each electronic sterilising, we install small wall mounted air balancing units to ensure there is no reoccurrence of infestation. Brian Tones. Architect www.123bmt.net

Director: Thomas Vinterburg Stars: Mads Mikkelsen, Lars Ranthe, Magnus Millang, Thomas Bo Larsen. Language: Danish, with English sub-titles Running time: 117 minutes Rating: 15+
Another Round reunites Vinterbergand Mikkelsen after 2012’s The Hunt. In that one, Mikkelsen played a kindergarten teacher wrongly accused of being a paedophile. Here he moves up the Danish educational system to play secondary-school history teacher Martin, whose work life and home life have lost their spark.
Meeting with similarly lacklustre colleagues — sports teacher Tommy (Thomas Bo Larsen), music head Peter (Lars Ranthe) and ringleader Nikolaj (Magnus Millang) — at a raucous birthday dinner, the oldies hatch a
plan inspired by Norwegian psychologist Finn Skårderud’s controversial thesis that most people go through life with too little alcohol in their bloodstream. Citing some famous functioning alcoholics (such as Winston Churchill and Ernest Hemingway), the four make a pact to stay low-level drunk all day, monitoring and recording the results with scientific empiricism. For its first half, the film spins the idea of fun and japes — Vinterberg playfully splices in montages of drunk world leaders — as the four teachers find their lives invigorated by a smidgeon of alcohol; Tommy, smuggling booze onto a football pitch in a plastic sports bottle, brings the best out of an ostracised player; Peter leads his pupils in rousing sing-songs in-between secret swigs of alcohol and Martin revitalises not only his days — there’s a lovely moment where he performs some nifty dance moves in a staff room — but also his nights, with the result that his kids suddenly pay him attention and his wife sees him with fresh eyes. “I haven’t felt this good in ages,” he tells his cohorts, so the group decide to up the ante and increase their daily alcohol consumption. Big mistake. Star Rating ***/****

Men & Women... The Differences
Men are just happier people. What do you expect from such simple creatures?
Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park. Car mechanics tell you the truth. The world is your urinal. You never have to drive to another petrol station toilet because this one is just too icky. You don't have to stop and think of which way to turn a nut on a bolt. Same work, more pay. Wrinkles add character. People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them. The occasional well-rendered belch is practically expected. New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet. One mood all the time. Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat. You know stuff about tanks. A five-day holiday requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is €4.95 for a three-pack. Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You almost never have strap problems in public. You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes. Everything on your face stays its originalcolour. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You only have to shave your face and neck. You can play with toys all your life. One wallet and one pair of shoes one colour for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look. You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of choice concerning growing a moustache. You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on 24th December in 25 minutes. NICKNAMES If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other Laura, Kate and Sarah. If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla and Four-eyes. EATING OuT When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in €20, even though it's only for €32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want change back. When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.
BATHROOMS A man has six items in his bathroom: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel from M&S. The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these items. ARGuMENTS A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument. FuTuRE A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband. A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife. SuCCESS A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man. MARRIAGE A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't. A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she does. DRESSING uP A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the bins, answer the phone, read a book, and get the post. A man will dress up for weddings and funerals. NATuRAL Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night. THOuGHT FOR THE DAY Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

Stalker banned A man who sent Kim Kardashian ‘morning-after’ pills and a diamond ring has been ordered to stay away from her for five years. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was granted a restraining order after the man, named Nicholas Costanza, visited the gated community she lives in on numerous occasions. In court documents obtained by TMZ, Kim's attorney Shawn Holley said the man sent the items in a package that her security team managed to intercept before she saw it. A judge in Los Angeles has now ordered that Costanza keep at least 100 yards away from Kim and that he must not contact her in any way. The man also made attempted to communicate with Kim online, calling himself her ‘knight in shining armour’ and sending her a self-made marriage licence for the two of them.
More Price cuts Former glamour model Katie Price appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain to share the results of her latest plastic surgeries and detailed the exact procedures she underwent on the operating table. In her latest bid for ‘perfection’, the 43-year-old former Page 3 star recently flew to Turkey in order to go under the knife — something the mother-of-five is used to after having had numerous plastic surgeries from the age of 18. During the TV programme, Katie detailed the exact changes she had made to her body during her dash to the red-list country and the reasons behind her decision to overhaul her looks once again. Katie said that she had full body liposuction, had some of her own fat inserted into her bottom, a facelift and lip lift. The star likened herself to a car in need of a regular check-over as she went on: "It’s like a car — you have an MOT. If you get a scratch or a dent, you fix it, and that’s how I feel with my body. I’m not trying to look younger and I definitely don’t want that alien look — when people go over the top and look like freaks."
Val revealed Mesmerising as Jim Morrison in The Doors, unforgettably macho alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun, and frequently underrated as a stone-faced Batman — a role he hated — few actors are as intriguing as Val Kilmer. Reviews of his off-screen behaviour and character are almost universally scathing.
Joel Schumacher, who directed Kilmer in Batman Forever, called him 'psychotic' and the most disturbed person he had ever met. Kilmer’s bitter divorce from Joanne Whalley was conducted while he was romancing model Cindy Crawford, and saw him accused of dallying with a pizza waitress and failing to provide a home for their children. Yet those same children — Mercedes, 29, and Jack, 26 — were at the Cannes Film Festival recently to promote “Val”, a documentary about Kilmer's life and times which they co-produced for Amazon Prime.
The new film features home movies shot by the 61-year-old actor over four decades. Kilmer speaks frankly about his life and career. Movingly, he appears speaking through a voice box, the result of throat cancer which was diagnosed in 2015.

Romantic raider A YouTuber who broke into the Love Island villa has revealed he only did so because he wanted one of the girls' numbers.
Omer Majid, 21, strolled into the villa after dodging security and he claims the front door was left unlocked.
He managed to get outside one of the bedroom doors and sat in the beach hut chair, before security threw him out and police arrived. Speaking to The Sun, Majid said he couldn't believe his luck that the front door was unlocked when he arrived there — after spending a week planning the break-in. “I tried to get into the bedroom to speak to them. I just wanted one of the girls’ numbers, that’s all,' he told the publication.”

Battle Of The Nations!
A word in advance of reading my little 300-word monthly article: this one is definitely tongue in cheek!
For real estate, in Southern Spain, these are confusing times! In our top ten of countries eager to purchase properties here, the Brits have always been at the top. Not any more. They are now scoring “zero points” in the Eurovision countdown of buyer nations. Top, for the last couple of years have been the Dutch and Belgians, (“dix points”) as well as the Germans, buying second homes and investment properties, unable as it seems, to be able to purchase in their own countries, where their own markets are saturated. Then there are the Scandies (“six points”?). The Scandies love the coast, (also the Germans) and appear not to wish to venture inland. They love Nerja and Benalmádena/Fuengirola, and for them, Frigiliana is ‘very far inland’. The Scandinavians are very different nations, though. The Swedish are always delighted, happy faces and emotional, the Danish and Norwegians a mixed crowd, the Finnish are sometimes a little difficult to read. You can show 6 houses to a family of Norwegians, get no visual reaction, and yet they put in an offer
93
the next day!
But in the last few weeks, what with Covid re-emerging like a recurring toothache and the dreadful floods taking the attention of central European nations away from Spain and Spanish property, who do we expect to creep back to the top spot? The BRITS...??? Nope. The Brits are still so messed up with Covid and Brexit they don’t know whether they are coming or going, so we have to wait a bit longer to see any change there. No... wait for it.... THE SPANISH! They are simply flocking inland, all eager to find a bargain in the countryside, all wanting to spend their hard earned savings or seeking a friendly bank loan to splash their cash on a second home, or even a first! They are selling up, selling their flats, duplexes and cramped terraced town houses to escape to the country and the clean country air. Good for the Spanish! The last generation of locals with so much enthusiasm for country property were their grandparents. ¡Vamos, adelante! Spanish buyers: “douze points”! Wines From Germany: Kloster Eberbach
Weingut Kloster Eberbach is a multi award-winning wine producer, located in the Rheingau district and has global recognition, for their high-quality wine productions.
Very attractively furnished, comfortable accommodations, are also offered, plus regular, on-site events. The monastery at Eberbach dates from 1136 and was founded by Cistercian monks. The monks had a wine cellar (Cabinetkeller) where they kept their very best wines. Weingut Kloster Eberbach produces exceptional white and red wines and has an excellent range.
Riesling wines are aromatic and grace countless dining tables often, pairing with fish, seafood and white meats superbly, as well as being enjoyed on their own regularly, too. Crescentia Premium Wines are produced utilising grapes from the very best vineyards. Kloster Eberbach Crescentia Steinberger Riesling trocken (12.0% vol) and Kloster Eberbach Crescentia Rauenthaler Baiken Riesling trocken (12.0% vol) are both extremely popular, dry white wines. The respective bouquets have the typical riesling aroma of apples and other fruits, being displayed for the nasal pleasures. The anticipation and further enjoyments are continued, for the mouthfeel and palate. The Kloster Eberbach range of wines also has Cabinetkeller productions. Highly praised and very much appreciated for their fine qualities, this section includes Kloster Eberbach Cabinetkeller Berg Roseneck Riesling feinherb (11.5 vol). Again, superb
97
quality prevails and this production is regularly found to be on ‘top’ dining tables. Certainly, a popular selection, for many. Kloster Eberbach Cabinetkeller Steinberg Riesling (13% vol) is a further choice, favoured by numerous lovers of white wines. The bouquet can, again, be classed as elegant, with citrus fruits enticing to the following delights. Welcoming and expressive, the sensations of fruits continue throughout, with an excellent, lengthy palate. Other Kloster Eberbach Cabinetkeller productions include Berg Schlossberg Spätburgunder trocken (13.5% vol). This
splendid, very impressive dry red wine has a ‘wealth’ of dark fruits and pairs with red meat dishes, wonderfully.
If visiting the Eberbach area there are wine tours of the estate available and tastings. The Kloster Eberbach wines can be ordered easily online, also. The Eberbach Monastery regularly has the most memorable weddings, with personal requirements, including banquets and receptions, being meticulously planned. Please visit the website for all details. www.kloster-eberbach.de

An armed hooded robber bursts into the Bank of Ireland and forces the tellers to load a sack full of cash. As he is on his way out the door with the loot, one brave Irish customer grabs the hood and pulls it off revealing the robber's face. The robber shoots the guy in the head without hesitation! He then looks around the bank to see if anyone else has seen him. One of the tellers is looking straight at him and the robber walks over and calmly shoots him in the head also. Everyone by now is very scared and looking down at the floor. "Did anyone else see my face?" calls the robber. There is a few moments silence then one elderly Irish gent, looking down, tentatively raises his hand and says, "I think me wife may have caught a glimpse." ------------------------------------------------------------A bride on her wedding night says to her husband 'I must confess darling, I was a hooker!'. He says 'That's all right, dear. Your past is your past, but I must admit that I find it quite erotic. Tell me about it'. She replies 'Well, my name was Nigel, and I played for Wigan! (Hooker is a certain position in a game of rugby and Wigan are a famous team). ------------------------------------------------------------The teacher asked the class to use the word 'fascinate' in a sentence. Molly put up her hand and said, 'My family went to my granddad's farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.' The teacher said, 'That was good, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate, not fascinating'. Sally raised her hand. She said, 'My family went to see Rock City and I was 'fascinated.' The teacher said, 'Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate.' Little Johnny raised his hand. The teacher
hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before. He always managed to mangle words and often embarrassed her. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word 'fascinate', so she called on him. Johnny said, 'My aunt Gina has a sweater with ten buttons, but her tits are so big she can only fasten eight.' The teacher sat down and cried. ------------------------------------------------------------A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his torch around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark said, 'Jesus is watching you.' He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his torch off, and froze. When he heard nothing more, after a bit, he shook his head and continued. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.' Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his torch beam came to rest on a parrot. 'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot. 'Yep', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he is watching you.' The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?' ‘Moses,' replied the bird. 'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?' 'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.' ------------------------------------------------------------What's the ideal weight for a mother-in-law? About 2.3lbs including the urn. ------------------------------------------------------------I phoned the local council today. I said to them, ‘Can I have a skip outside my house? He said, ‘I’m not stopping you!’

An old retired sailor, puts on his old uniform and heads for the docks once more, for old times sake. He engages a prostitute and takes her up to a room. He's soon going at it as well as he can for a guy his age, but needing some reassurance, he asks, 'How am I doing?’ The prostitute replies, 'Well, old sailor, you're doing about three knots' 'Three knots?' he asks. 'What's that supposed to mean?' She says, 'You're knot hard, you're knot in and you're knot getting your money back.' ------------------------------------------------------------An Aussie truckie walks into an outback ‘cafe' with a full-grown emu behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders. The truckie says, 'A hamburger, chips and a coke,' and turns to the emu, 'What's yours?' 'I'll have the same,' says the emu. A short time later the waitress returns with the order 'That will be $9.40 please,' and he reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment. The next day, the man and the emu come again and he says, ‘A hamburger, chips and a coke.' The emu says, 'I'll have the same.' Again the truckie reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change. This becomes routine until the two enter again. 'The usual?' asks the waitress. 'No, it's Friday night, so I'll have a steak, baked potato and a salad,' says the man. 'Same,' says the emu. Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, 'That will be $32.62.' Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. 'Excuse me how do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?' 'Well, love' says the truckie, 'A few years ago, I was cleaning out the back shed, and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie

appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.' 'That's brilliant!' says the waitress. 'Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!' 'That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,' says the man. The waitress asks, 'What's with the bloody emu?' The truckie sighs, pauses, and answers, 'My second wish was for a tall bird with a big arse and long legs, who agrees with everything I say.' ------------------------------------------------------------Trevor was driving his truck to the zoo with 50 monkeys in the back, when it suddenly broke down. As he got out of the lorry, Paddy pulled up in an empty truck. “Paddy if I give you 50€ can you take these monkeys to the zoo?” “No problem” replies Paddy So they load up the monkeys and Paddy drives off. A while later, Trevor was still waiting for the RAC and coming back down the road on the other side was Paddy and the 50 monkeys!! He flagged down Paddy and shouted “What the hell are you still doing with those monkeys? I gave you 50€ to take them to the zoo!” Paddy said “I know that Trevor, but I had some money left over so we’re off to the cinema!!” ------------------------------------------------------------The recruitment agency asked me ‘What do you think of voluntary work?’ I said ‘I wouldn’t do it if you paid me.’ ------------------------------------------------------------I went to the doctor.
