Happy Valentines everyone… it’s the month of Lurrrrve!

Distribution Tony - 664 689 138

In our everyday lives it’s common to forget that romantic love between a couple isn’t the only form of Love that exists. In fact, each and every one of us is made of Love so that’s what is at our core. As beings of such great Love and Light that means we have the ability to spread Love whatever we do, wherever we go, and with whomever we meet.

Sentinella axarquia Edition

A great way I’ve found to spread the Love is to simply send it! Sending Love to others requires nothing more than intention and a vivid imagination. I practice this daily by imagining a pink or golden Light shooting from my heart to the heart of the person I’m sending Love to. And it’s not just our friends and relatives that we can send to Love to. There’s actually great power in sending Love to our enemies too, or those who we don’t always see eye to eye with. As we’re all energy, everyone feels this love on some level, even if they aren’t always consciously aware of it. Love heals, and it can also transform people. And we can’t forget to Love ourselves too. Selflove is actually the most powerful of all, as we can’t properly love others until we learn to love ourselves, warts and all! This Valentines, regardless of whether you’re in a romantic relationship with another person on not, take the time to treat yourself to something fabulous and luxurious – some flowers, a box of chocolates, a day at a spa, or whatever else makes you feel special. Why? Because you deserve it!

De Cotta Law Reasons why everyone should review their wills in 2015 Part One how Modelo 720 affects inheritance tax. This is a change in working practice and enforcement of existing law rather than a change in the law. Most ex-pats resident in Spain will be aware that since December 2012, there has been a requirement to declare all overseas assets to the hacienda if the value exceeds â‚Ź50,000. The effect of this is that whereas pre Modelo 720, non-Spanish assets received by a Spanish tax resident as part of an inheritance were largely ignored by the hacienda, now they have to be declared as part of the inheritance and tax accordingly. There has always been an obligation to declare to the hacienda and pay tax on any inheritance received by a Spanish tax resident regardless of from whom and from where the legacy came from. So a legacy from a great Aunt who had never been to Spain in her life would be liable to Spanish inheritance tax. This also applies to non-Spanish assets received as part of an inheritance which includes Spanish assets. The most common example is where the spouse receives all the assets of the deceased spouse in and out of Spain. However, common practice was to keep those assets in the country of origin and not declare them. The hacienda did little to enforce the rules. Since Modelo 720, this has changed. The recipient now has to declare the assets in the Modelo 720 and state how they came into possession. This in turn will lead to a tax demand (and possibly a fine) from the hacienda if the receipt of the inheritance is not already declared.

One solution is to restructure your wills so that non-Spanish residents are the recipients of non-Spanish assets. This could be for example your children or even a discretionary trust containing the surviving spouse and other people as beneficiaries. Next edition, how the new European Succession Regulation affects Spanish residents Jon Sutton is a Solicitor at De Cotta Law, whose firm specialises in Wills & Probate. He is available to meet clients at the inland office of De Cotta Law at Sierra Chica, CoĂn or at the offices in Mijas Costa. Strange News Llama Crazy - Residents of a Lancashire town could not believe their eyes when they spotted a llama running through the streets - for more than six hours. Calista, a female rescue llama, escaped from a field after being scared by a dog in Littlebrough, near Rochdale. A video captured the terrified animal being pursued by locals as it ran around the streets of the town. The camel-like creature - native to South America - was also spotted by dozens of motorists, reports the Manchester Evening News. Owner Dan Taylor eventually managed to track her down at about midnight, before calming her down and walking her back home. Mr Taylor, 48, who has 19 llamas on the family farm, believes Calista ran away after a dog got into the field and started to chase her. He said: "She was very frightened and it will take her a long time to get over this. "All of them were very spooked by the dog. They are very timid and friendly creatures and this kind of thing really upsets them. He added: "They make wonderful pets. They are very affectionate and loving.

knife Party - A Brazilian man drove more than two hours to hospital with a knife sticking out of his head after being stabbed at a party. The 30cm-long blade narrowly missed Juacelo Nunes' left eye and passed through his mouth into the right side of his jaw, the G1 news website reported. "The knife passed through several nerves and veins, structures that can quickly kill a patient" Gilberto Albuquerque, the director of the hospital in Teresina, said. The knife was removed and given to police who are investigating the attack, the doctor told G1. He added that the 39-year-old was recovering surprisingly well. Mr Nunes also suffered two knife wounds to his throat, shoulder and chest when he was stabbed after an argument at the party in Agua Branca, more than 60 miles from Teresina, in northeastern Piaui state.

Valentine’s Day Superstitions It is said that the kind of bird a girl watches on Valentine's Day predicts her future husband

• If you see a goldfinch on Valentine's Day, you will marry a millionaire. (I’m in luck then, got one in my front room)!!!!

For instance: Sparrow: a poor man Owl: remain spinster Bluebird: a happy man Blackbird: a priest or clergyman Crossbill: an argumentative man

• If you see a robin on Valentine's Day, you will marry a crime fighter - maybe they mean Batman!

• If an apple is cut in half, the number of seeds found inside the fruit will indicate the number of children that individual will have.

• If you find a glove on the road on Valentine's Day, your future beloved will have the other missing glove.

• If you see a flock of doves on Valentine's Day, you will have a happy, peaceful marriage.

• To be awoken by a kiss on Valentine's Day is considered lucky. • On Valentine's Day, the first guy's name you read in the paper or hear on the TV or radio will be the name of the man you will marry. • If you see a squirrel on Valentine's Day, you will marry a cheapskate who will hoard all your money.

interesting Facts - Guyana boasts a remarkably rich ecology, but also has one of South America's poorest economies. Tropical rainforests - filled with distinctive plants and trees, teeming with exotic birds, insects and mammals are a big draw for eco-tourists and almost 80% of the country is swathes in these unspoilt forests. However, political troubles, ethnic tension and economic mismanagement have left the former British colony with serious economic problems. Guyana is known as the name ‘Land of the Six People’ because of its peculiar population which comprises of descendants of African slaves, indigenous Amerindians, Chinese, Indians, Portuguese and Europeans. In November 1978 American religious leader Jim Jones and 909 followers committed suicide in Jonestown. This mass suicide done for political purposes was the greatest loss of American civil life in a single non-natural event until the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The Laws Of Life Everyone of us will relate to most of these 1. Law of Mechanical repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to pee. 2. Law of gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible place in the universe. 3. Law of Probability - The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act. 4. Law of random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal; someone always answers. 5. Variation Law - If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now. 6. Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone will ring. 7. Law of the result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, IT WILL!!! 8. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach. 9. Law of the Theatre & hockey arena - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk. 10. The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down

to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold. 11. Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers. 12. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open- faced jam sandwich landing face down on a floor are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet or rug.

Alzheimer’s Jenny, a lovely 25 year old Since her new husband is so old, Jenny decides that after their wedding she and John should have separate bedrooms, because she is concerned that her new but aged husband may over-exert himself if they spend the entire night together. After the wedding festivities Jenny prepares herself for bed and the expected knock on the door. Sure enough the knock comes, the door opens and there is John, her 85 year old groom, ready for action. They unite as one. All goes well, John takes leave of his bride, and she prepares to go to sleep.

But as John gets set to leave again, his young bride says to him, 'I am thoroughly impressed that at your age you can perform so well and so often. I have been with guys less than a third of your age who were only good once. You are truly a great lover, John..' John, somewhat embarrassed, turns to Jenny and says: 'You mean I've been here already tonight?' The moral of the story: Don't be afraid of getting old, Alzheimer's has its advantages. PS.. Have I put this in the magazine before?

After a few minutes, Jenny hears another knock on her bedroom door, and it's John, Again he is ready for more 'action'. Somewhat surprised, Jenny consents for more coupling. When the newlyweds are done, John kisses his bride, bids her a fond good night and leaves. She is set to go to sleep again, but, aha, you guessed it - John is back again, rapping on the door and is as fresh as a 25-year-old, ready for more 'action'. And, once more they enjoy each other.

Linea Directa REGISTERING YOUR VEHICLE IN SPAIN. SPANISH LICENSE PLATES AND REGISTRATION DOCUMENT Registering a non-Spanish vehicle in Spain is a complex and potentially costly procedure. However, you may be exempt from Spanish registration tax by getting Spanish number plates within one month of entering the country. But to do this, you need to become a resident. Linea Directa has been insuring expat drivers in Spain for over a decade and understands all the steps involved. Below we outline this process. STEP 1: OBTaiNiNg a CErTiFiCaTE OF CONFOrMiTY This is a statement by the car’s manufacturer that it conforms to Eu regulations. You will need the car’s chassis number to complete this straightforward process online at www.eurococ.eu/en/certificate_of_conformity. The charges for this service will vary according to type of vehicle, make and country of 1st registration. STEP 2: CUrrENT LOg BOOk The vehicle’s original log book showing your name as the owner, the vehicles age and a valid uK address. You will also need the bill of sale for the car. STEP 3: rESiDENCY iN SPaiN The Spanish residency certificate (Certificado de Empadronamiento) is your official proof of residency in Spain. Your local town hall can provide you with this document. You will need to take your passport and proof of Spanish address (rental contract, contract to purchase or property deeds). STEP 4: OBTaiNiNg a SPaNiSh MOT CErTiFiCaTE All vehicles over 4 years old must be roadworthy and clearly display a valid ITV sticker. The ITV (Vehicle Technical Inspection) must be tested at an authorised centre, just as for an MOT test. You can find out the location of your nearest ITV centre on DGT website (equivalent to the DVLA). You can also call your local centre to make a booking. If the centre is busy, especially pre-summer, this can save a lot of time. The cost can vary but generally is around 40€ for petrol-engine cars and 56€ for diesel-engine cars. STEP 5: OBTaiNiNg a SPaNiSh EQUiVaLENT OF a TaX DiSC The Spanish Tax Agency can provide your ve-

hicle with a valid “tax disc” for Spain, which must be carried in the car when in use. You will need to complete the relevant form online and pay the amount according to your car’s tax band. You can carry out all these procedures yourself or you can seek the assistance of an accountant to do this for you. we hope the information provided in this article is of interest. if you would like to contact Linea Directa please call 902 123 161 More information on Linea Directa online at www.lineadirecta.com

Osteopathy The Facts What is Osteopathy? Osteopathy is a form of drug-free non-invasive manual medicine that focuses on total body health by treating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework, which includes the joints, muscles, ligaments and spine, and is also used to diagnose and prevent musculoskeletal conditions. Its aim is to positively affect the body´s nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. This therapy is a unique holistic (whole body) approach to health care. Osteopaths do not simply concentrate on treating the problem area, but use manual techniques to balance all the systems of the body, to provide overall good health and wellbeing.

What conditions do Osteopaths commonly treat? - Headaches, Migraines - Back pain - Spinal misalignment - Heel / foot pain - Neck and shoulder pain- Sciatica - Joint discomfort - Arthritis - Sports injuries - Restricted mobility- Repetitive strain injury - Whiplash - Postural problems but also: - Tennis elbow - Carpal tunnel syndrome - Asthma - Digestive problems‌ and more. If you would like further information or to make an appointment see main advert below for contact details

Many health problems are thought to be caused by poor posture and misalignment of muscles and joints. Osteopaths suggest that if the structure of your body is improved, the function of your body will also improve, problems will be alleviated and you will return to good health. Osteopathy is safe for all age groups.

Known for THE BEST CLIMATE IN EUROPE, Axarquia has some of the best weather conditions in the world. It isn’t any wonder that millions of people visit this beautiful area every year! The Mediterranean sea to the south and sheltered magnificent mountain ranges to the north, Axarquia sits within the Malaga Province of Andalucia. The following pages feature some of the beautiful towns and villages of this superb and picturesque area.

Visit it and get to know and enjoy all it has to offer. It is perfect for those that like living in a natural peaceful place and only want to wander through the emblematic streets and hear the birds singing. Cutar village, which originated from an Arab farm and has numerous fountains and prosperous agriculture, lies under the protective shade of the Castillo en el Cerro. The very narrow streets of Arab origen are one of the most emblematic characteristics of this village in Axarquia, where you can feel and sense the past throughout the entire village. Axarquian and is dominated by the church tower that stands above the houses in the highest part of town. From all around this town there are splendid views of the Penon de Comares and the corridor of Colmenar-Periana. SOME OF THE BEST FIESTAS THEY CELEBRATE At Easter they traditionally celebrate on Easter Sunday el Huerto in which they sell the fruits and the profits pay for the fair in honour of San Roque. The fair in honour of San Roque is one of the most important and popular events of this town. It takes place in the middle of August and lasts a week and during this time many people who live away return to enjoy the

numerous activities and join in the fun. El Monfi takes place on the second weekend of October when Cutar goes back to its Moorish origens where they celebrate traditions of Andalusian culture in the streets, like the Zoco which is a craft and gastronomy fair. The object of this is to get a deeper knowledge of a culture that lasted six centuries and which was the origen of nearly all the white villages in Axarquia.

Benamargosa is located in the river valley of the same name some 15 kilometres inland from Velez-Málaga on the costa del Sol and about a half an hour´s drive by motorway from Málaga. The valley is practically evergreen and almost like an oasis in summertime, due to the plantations of avocado and citrus fruits lining the river. The village centre is 90 metres above sea level and the hills rising up along the side of the river reach 550 metres. Thanks to the warm climate of the area, it is possible to achieve more than one harvest. Traditional vineyards are to be found in the hills surrounding the village, growing the famous Málaga grapes used to make the well known sweet wines of the region. The traditional cultivation of olives, almonds and carob is gradually being replaced by the mango. McDonald's Cheeseburger Left In Doctors' Surgery For 2 YEARS Can you guess what happens to it? What happens when you leave a McDonald's cheeseburger unattended in the open air for two years? The answer is nothing, really. No mould, nasty smells or ants. It just sits there uneaten as people walk past. Two chiropractors in Waterford, Michigan, uS, left the sandwich and a Taco Bell chicken taco on the counter of their surgery to see what would happen to them. Dr Jacqueline Vaughn hopes it will make people think about what they are putting into their bodies every time they make a trip to their local fast food restaurant. It comes just a few weeks after a similar experiment in which another man drank 10 cans of Coca-Cola a day for a month to show the effects of the sugary drink. Over almost two years, the meals appear unchanged - apart from the cheese on the burger

turning a darker brown and the taco's lettuce greying slightly. "There's no smell from it, it's basically mummified. You can pick it up, turn it over and still see the cheese and pickle in the burger," "Even in the summer when we get ants, the bugs won't go near it." Dr Vaughn says she intends to leave the fast food on display "forever", although anyone expecting a dramatic transformation will most probably be disappointed. Yafan Zhang, professor of food science at Wayne State university, says a preservative called Calcium Probinate keeps the food looking nearedible for a long time. He said the non-toxic substance is used in a range of products to keep them fresh, including bread, cakes and processed meat. The product is safe to use and eat. Although it can sometimes cause inflammation of the stomach, it is fine unless it is eaten every day. Yummy!!

Please mention The Sentinella when responding to adverts Cajiz it in many a year, but then it is one of the oldest in Málaga dating back to 1505.

Cajiz is a small village, with a population of about 823, that is just 27 kilometres from Malaga and 5 kilometres from the coast at an altitude of 175 metres. It is situated on the way up the hill to the larger village of Iznate and is often bypassed without a second glance. On taking time out to discover the place I wondered at the eclectic style of housing which ranges from poor ruins in desperate need of reforming to grand modern structures towering over the modest square.

This village, like many in the area, is Arabic in origin and is steep with little dead end streets culminating in a mass of colour with flowering pots outside closed front doors with little dogs lying stretched out in the shade. One street has its name rather quaintly hand painted on a wall. In the upper part of the town in Calle El Chorrillo, there is a Mudéjar well and fountain which are worth a visit. There are a couple of good bars and restaurants where you can sit and chat to the locals or just enjoy good food and drink.

Even the 18th century parish church of San José is tucked away amongst trees and ruins and looks as if no-one has painted or cared for

To find a little more activity in the village you need to visit in March for the festival of its Patron Saint or during Semana Santa

People Who Come And Go Geert and Hermine – Los Romanes Geert, a corporate lawyer and his wife, a nurse, from Belgium, completed on the purchase of their 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom lake view villa just outside Los Romanes in 2014. Now they are happily furnishing it for family use and perhaps the occasional rental to cover some of their costs. When asked why they chose Spain for their second home, and in particular Andalucía, they say it goes beyond its good weather. “It is steeped in history, and as a historical centre of recalcitrance against the former central dictatorship its people are and always have been truly alive and kicking! And who can ignore the stunning landscape and exquisite natural beauty of this place” Geert explains. As recent buyers, what advice do our Belgian professional couple have for those looking at buying here too? “Work with advisors who you can trust and with whom you feel comfortable. Take on independent legal advisors you have selected, but also work with brokers who, by definition have an interest in selling the house, but nevertheless try to find out which house would fit what you are looking for, rather than pushing to sell… In Belgium we had received

weekly phone calls for almost a year from a Belgian broker trying to sell a house in Spain, offering a 3 day stay in a hotel etc… That should make you suspicious…” In my daily work I come across such an array of interesting and intelligent people such as this couple, drawn to the raw, but curiously alluring charms of rural Andalusia. My thoughts are, that we are more than lucky to be surrounded by such an interesting and varied group of fellow Europeans, enriching the local culture – we wish Geert and Hermine many years of happiness here in Andalucía. Sunday Lunch at The Regina Sunday Lunch in a Spanish Restaurant? When I go out for a Sunday Lunch, what would I expect? I would expect roast meat, roast potatoes, yorkshire puds and a minimum of 3 veggies all smothered in a thick gravy. Where would I go for such a lunch? Well I would go to an English bar/restaurant obviously, wouldn’t I? NO! Whilst walking along Paseo Maritimo in Torre del Mar I stumbled across a board outside Regina Restaurant, a nice looking, modern looking Spanish establishment advertising British Sunday Lunch. I looked at the the wife and we decided to give it a go. We were shown to our table by an English speaking waiter on the bright, airy yet covered terrace and whilst our drinks were being prepared we studied the menu. A full a la carte was on offer as well as Roast Beef or Roasted Belly Pork. I ordered the beef whilst the wife, not a great lover of beef, ordered the Salmon and leek parcel which was recommended by the waiter. I was still a bit dubious about a British Institution being cooked by a spaniard, but this was eased a tad when the waiter explained the chef had 10 years experience cooking in London!!

The meals arrived and there in front of me was everything I expected and indeed hoped. 3 generous slices of entrecote beef (nice little pink tinge), roast potatoes, a yorkie, cabbage, roasted carrots and parsnips! It looked scrummie! The wife’s meal had the parcel of salmon and leek elegantly wrapped in filo pastry sat royally on a bed of spinach accompanied with sun dried tomato and potato mash. She couldn’t get enough of it, “It was devine” she said. But most surprisingly of all was my roast dinner compared admirably to one of my ideals, it was superb!! The beef melted in the mouth, the potatoes all fluffy inside and the parsnips had a little crunch. All this united in a thick gravy. After desserts, which were all homemade and delicious, we spoke a little more to the waiter and he said that usually on Sundays, there is live music as well, but because of the weather, had to be cancelled. Shame as that would have put a feather in the cap of a very pleasurable lunch. We had a great experience in Regina and will definitely return and maybe have a little dance next time - A visit is a must!

Book Signing In Torre Del Mar Sussex-based debut author Jonathan S Harvey will be signing his first book, “His Life Was A Lie” at the bookshop Pasatiempo, Calle Infantes, Torre Del Mar on Thursday 19th February. The book, a crime/thriller which has already received good reviews, is set in Brighton and the South Downs before moving to Spain where the action is centred in the hills around Comares and Cutar, reaching its dramatic and explosive climax in the area. A routine robbery at the house of a successful industrialist leads to the possible exposure of his life of lies. The thief dies but the evidence of his deceit is found and blackmail demands follow, leading to a chase and various murders by interested parties aiming to recover the evidence. Will MI5’s long-held secret be revealed? Will the murderer(s) be arrested? Will the industrialist’s secret be kept, or will the demands of the blackmailer be met? Jonathan Harvey, a police officer for 30 years, served 25 of them as a detective and has drawn on that experience, as well as his knowl-

edge of numerous locations around Brighton. He started writing the story at home in Sussex then while renting a house in Comares, had a ‘eureka’ moment for the ending. He maintains his police career taught him to talk to people in a variety of situations and then put their words into a story – their statement. “This story developed as the characters grew and ideas came to me,” he told us. “But when I started I really didn’t have too much of a plan – other than it would entail robbery, blackmail and murder. My police background helped in checking facts and local details, but it is the whole story that is so important. “I have tried to detail locations and investigative methods accurately but as the story twists and turns, it definitely flirts between fact and fiction.” “His Life Was A Lie” is published by The Book Guild, and is on sale at Amazon in paperback and Kindle. It is also on sale at Pasatiempo, where Jonathan is looking forward to endorsing copies of the book with a personal message for readers.

Recipe Of The Month Beef and Chorizo Pie A wonderfully warming winter recipe sure to find favour on a chilly evening! ingredients 3tbsp olive oil 1kg (2lb) braising beef, trimmed and cut into chunks 200g (7oz) chorizo, cut into chunks 2 red onions, peeled and cut into wedges 3 cloves garlic, crushed pinch crushed dried chilli 250ml (8 fl oz) red wine 500ml beef stock 2 sprigs fresh thyme 1 small bay leaf 1 x 400g (13oz) tin chopped tomatoes 300g (10oz) diced butternut squash 1tbsp butter, softened 1tbsp plain flour, plus extra for rolling out 500g (1lb) puff pastry 1 egg, beaten Serves: 6 Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large pan. Season the beef and brown in batches. Set aside. Add extra oil and brown the chorizo. Set aside with beef. Add the onions, cook for a few minutes, then add the garlic and chilli and cook for a minute. Return the meat to the pan and pour in the red wine. Simmer for a minute then add the stock, thyme, bay leaf and tin of tomatoes. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat, cover and simmer for an hour. Add the butternut squash and cook for a further 30 minutes. Take off the heat and fish out the bay leaf and thyme sprigs. Let cool for 10 minutes. Remove any fat from the surface, return to the heat and bring to a gentle boil. In a small pan, melt the butter and stir in the flour to make a roux. Stir into the main dish until the sauce thickens, then pour the filling into a pie dish. Let cool. Preheat the oven to gas 5, 190˚C, fan 170˚C. Roll out the pastry on a floured surface, so that it's slightly larger than the pie dish. Brush the rim with water and top with the pastry lid. Press down to seal. Brush with beaten egg and cut a steam vent in the top. Place on a baking tray and cook for about 40 minutes, until puffed and golden.

The sun sparks up the day of the lover, Red roses and hugs in each street. It’s time to take your heart’s cover, Fill with love, warmth and touch so sweet. The young look for their perfect match, Some already treasure their own, But some just take a seat and watch, And sadly spend the day alone. From morning ‘till the sun lays low, Couples smile and hold hands tight. They lay and wait for stars to glow And let the light their love ignite. The moon puts off the day of the lover, But night is best for them to meet. Valentine took their heart’s cover, Now both cover to be complete. By Guillermo Olmos Fernández

Helping Axarquia Monthly Update New regulations for Spanish wills European Regulation 650/2012 will be applicable to Eu citizens who die on or after 17th August 2015. The law applying to their succession will be that of the country where the deceased had his/her habitual residence at the time of death, unless they specifically choose their own national law at the time of making the will. Residents in Spain must therefore be careful to include their choice in their wills so that inheritances are dealt with according to the correct law. For example, if you are English and living in Spain, and you die on or after 17/08/2015, your succession will be governed by Spanish Inheritance Law, unless you have opted for your national law. In other words in most cases, foreign Eu resi-

dents will have to draft a new Spanish will. If you are not sure which law will apply to your succession, or if your will needs to be updated, we can assist you. For more information, please info@helpingaxarquia.com

Name: Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-SaintLaurent Born: August 1, 1936, Oran, Algeria Died: June 1, 2008, Paris, France Nationality: French Parents: Charles Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, Lucienne Andree Mathieu-Saint-Laurent Partner: Pierre Bergé (m. 2008–2008) Growing up with his family by the Mediterranean and bullied at school, Saint Laurent liked to create intricate paper dolls. By his early teens he was designing dresses for his mother and sisters. After winning two prestigious fashion design competitions, he was hired by legendary designer Christian Dior. However, he spent his first year there decorating the studio and designing accessories. Dior finally acknowledged Saint Laurent’s talent and announced him as his heir in 1957. Dior died unexpectedly before that year was out and at the age of 21, Saint Laurent was head of one of the greatest fashion houses in Paris. His first collections drew rave reviews and in 1959, he was chosen by Farah Diba to design her wedding dress for her marriage to the Shah of Iran. However the autumn 1959 collection was not well received and in 1960, Saint Laurent was conscripted to serve in the French Army during the Algerian War of Independence – some speculated this was engineered by the owner of the House of Dior as a means of replacing him.

problems and drug addictions which dogged his later life.

After his release from hospital, Saint Laurent sued Dior for breach of contract and won. He and his partner, industrialist Pierre Bergé, started their own fashion house Yves Saint Laurent YSL with funds from Atlanta millionaire J. Mack Robinson. Although the couple split romantically in 1976, they remained business partners, and entered into a civil union just days before Saint Laurent’s death. He was the first French designer to create a ‘ready-to-wear’ collection, and early trademarks included the beatnik look; safari jackets for men and women; tight trousers; tall, thighhigh boots and arguably the most famous classic tuxedo suit for women in 1966, Le Smoking. The first customer of his Rive Gauche store was actress Catherine Deneuve. He died in 2008 of brain cancer in Paris – his disease having been kept from him as he was not deemed strong enough to accept his fate. The sale of his extensive art collection – which included works by Picasso and Matisse – realised more than 342 million euros. The sale also included 12 bronze statue heads looted from the Old Summer Palace in China during the Second Opium War.

Joke Book

CS Abogados Opens New office Have you considered writing a will?

Still available!!

Although a British will is recognised under Spanish law and the Hague Convention, it can be a lengthy and complicated process for the beneficiary to receive their inheritance, and it often results in expensive translation fees. If a Spanish will has not been made and registered in the Last Wills Central Registry in Madrid, your beneficiary would have to go through this highly bureaucratic process. In order to inherit from a British will in Spain, the beneficiary has to obtain a Grant of Probate which also requires translation and legalisation at the foreign and commonwealth office. It is advisable to have a Spanish will in place, as this will give you peace of mind that your chosen beneficiaries will receive what they are due. With our experience in inheritance law, we can take away your worries and guide you through the process. We are also offering a special discount of 10% to The Sentinella readers, to celebrate our opening of another office in Calle Rioja 69 Edif. Salares Portal 2 local 2, Torre del Mar. It contains fibre and cellulose – besides filling you up, fibre improves your digestion and this is essential for long term weight control.

Fibre also helps remove bile salts from the body. When the body replaces these salts it breaks down cholesterol to do so. This is why lettuce is also good for your heart – lettuce’s vitamin C and beta-carotene work together to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. This prevents the build-up of plaque. It is high in omega-3 fatty acids – romaine lettuce has a two to one ratio of omega-3 to omega-6, which is extremely good.

glycemic indexes are great for anyone watching their blood sugars for medical reasons, or for weight management. Of course, lettuce has no refined or white sugars. Lettuce is almost always eaten raw, providing us with many micronutrients not found in cooked or processed food. Eating raw food also adds vital energies not recognised by nutritional science. Even though lettuce is very low in calories, many varieties still have a sweet taste. To maximize benefits from your food you should really WANT to eat it with your whole body – not just your mind saying it is good for you.

The fat content in lettuce is insignificant. Romaine lettuce’s calories are 20 per cent protein. Like all whole foods, much of this protein is complete, but the amount can be increased by combining with balancing proteins. Eating lettuce can help with insomnia. The white fluid that you see when you break or cut lettuce leaves is called lactucarium, which has relaxing and sleep-inducing properties similar to opium but without the strong side effects. Simply eat a few leaves or drink some lettuce juice. The minerals in lettuce help remove toxins and keep your acid/alkaline balance in order. Once you are balanced on this level, other benefits include greater energy, clearer thinking, deep restful sleep and youthful skin. Lettuce has an average glycemic index of 15, but because it has so few calories, its glycemic load is considered zero. Foods with low

Bolted into the wall, who would think it takes very little effort to break or cut them. unfortunately, many home owners are finding this out the hard way. We at PERFECT ¡Alarm! S.L. are frequently called to wonderful homes, where expensive wrought iron grills and bars have been torn, bent and even cut from the walls, causing extensive damage to the brickwork. These small seismic sensors are attached to the bars, and are relatively inconspicuous. With the use of wireless connection, they are connected to the alarm system. However, wind and rain alone cannot cause such a vibration.

Face Packs Next time your complexion is in desperate need of a pick-up, open the fridge and feed your skin some real beauty. Try this egg-based recipe for dry skin: Take the yolk of one egg. Mix in two spoonfuls of rose water and one spoonful of honey and preserve. use once a week. For wrinkles… Take the white of an egg, beat it and mix in three spoonfuls of oat powder and one spoonful of honey. Smooth over the face. For very dry skin… Add the yolk of one egg, two spoonfuls of orange juice, half a spoon of lemon juice and a few drops of sweet almond oil. Mix well and apply it. Keep it on for half an hour before rinsing. To cool… Grind fresh green mint and apply the paste on your skin for 20-25 minutes. It absorbs internal heat of your skin. To soften… Peel a cucumber and grind it fine. Add unboiled milk and apply.

For normal skin... Blend equal quantities of strawberries, grapes, pears, apples and oranges in a blender. Apply a thin film of honey on the face and apply. Let it stand for 30 minutes before rinsing. For pigmentation or scarring... Powder orange peels and blend in curds. Apply on scarred or pigmented areas and wash off after 15 minutes with cool water. For combination skin… Grate the juice of the cucumber and potato and apply evenly on the face and neck. This absorbs the oil and leaves your skin taut. Rub in plenty of moisturiser after washing the mixture off your face. For oily skin… Acidic fruits like oranges and lemons are best for oily skin. Squeeze out the juice and apply evenly. For men…If you’re going to watch, don’t laugh. Instead appreciate what we go through to stay beautiful for you!

other fish) is called a Hydrogeologist. The most common crayfish gets 3-4 inches long, but they can get much bigger in the wild in deep lakes – up to 8–9 inches and weigh up to 2lbs. The dwarf crayfish is only two inches long, and is favoured as a pet. Fossils have been found of crayfish that are 30 million years old, but some of their fossilised homes – or burrows – date back much further. Some have been found in Australia that date back over 100 million years.

Crayfish swim backwards but walk forward. Some of their diet consists of small fish, insect larvae, and carrion, but in addition to being eaten by humans, they are prey for eels, water birds and pikes. Crayfish are also used as bait for largemouth bass and channel catfish. As a dining delicacy, crayfish are enjoyed the world over. They shed their skin and often eat it for the calcium that it contains, so they can develop a strong new shell. Male crayfish get very competitive when it comes to mating. It’s a good thing that they can regenerate lost limbs because during the mating season, it is known for crayfish to lose legs or claws during a power match. Even the sperm of a crayfish is different – it does not have a tail, but crawls in the direction of the female eggs instead. Crayfish can eat hot dogs and cat food. The colours of a crayfish can be sandy yellow, pink, red, dark brown, white and blue. The red crayfish is the most common, with blue is the second most common. Crayfish live on every continent except Africa and Antarctica; there are 200 species of crayfish in North America alone. They fight over their territory. Crayfish are also called craw-fish, crawdads and mud bugs. Someone who studies crayfish (and some

Medical Insurance Do you need private medical insurance? There are many reasons why as an expat in Spain you may require Private health insurance. wApplying for Residence – You will be asked for a certificate to prove you have a year’s paid up insurance wNot eligible for the state system and require protection for you and your family wIn the state system but prefer the private sector ensuring less waiting times and doctors that speak your language Private medical insurance - What is it? Health insurance pays all – or some – of your medical bills if you are treated privately. It gives you a choice in the level of care you get and how and when it is provided. You don’t have to take out private medical insurance – but if you don’t or can´t have access to the state system you might find it hard to pay for private treatment without insurance, especially for serious conditions. Private medical insurance - What does it cover? Like all insurance, the cover you get from private medical insurance depends on the policy you buy. Basic private medical insurance usually picks up the costs of Doctor visits, most out -patient treatments (inc tests and scans) and Diagnosis Top level policies cover the above and emergency treatment, dental, hospitalization, surgery and more. Private medical insurance - What isn’t covered? Your healthcare insurance usually won’t cover private treatment for: wPre-existing medical conditions wChronic illnesses such as HIV/AIDs-related illnesses, diabetes, epilepsy, hypertension and related illnesses wInjuries relating to dangerous sports or arising from war or war-like hostilities wCosmetic surgery to improve your appearance We have access to many providers including AXA, Exeter Friendly and Cinga – However our two preferred providers are Prevision Medica and DKV – This is due to premium levels and cover offered. Both offer various policies that can be chosen to suit your needs. Prevision Medica have a great offer for anyone under the age of 60 the monthly fee is just 46€ per month for the top level policy and includes

no excess payments for the 1st year (Just 2€ after) a free dental policy for under 18´s, free Dental checkups, annual clean, extractions and x-rays for adults and worldwide emergency health care. It is also worth noting that apart from small yearly increases the rate does not increase as it does with some insurers due to your age – So the earlier you take out the policy the more beneficial for your pocket. Other rates apply over 60 and there is no maximum age limit to apply. The basic policy (which I would recommend for anyone that is in the state system) starts at only 32€ per month. We also have policies available for groups of people of 10 to 15 or more, which attract discounts, so if you belong to a social group or charity group get in touch for a no obligation quote. Discounts also apply for annual payments. Both the insurers we work with use all the main clinics in the area – All the Rincon clinics in Nerja, Torre Del Mar and Rincon De la Victoria (which has a 24 hour A & E Department) and Centro Medico on Torrox Costa – There are others in Nerja, Torre Del Mar and Velez Malaga, however I mentioned these as they have English speaking doctors available, which can be a consideration when taking private healthcare. At Essential Cover we are not merely a sales agent for the policy, we are here to help you throughout the life of your policy. I have put together information in order to make it easier to understand how to use these policies and what is available to you. For example after a three month waiting period clients have access to a program of preventative medical treatments including Obstetrics and Gynecology including cancer prevention check, urology (Colorectal cancer and Prostate cancer checks, Cardiology checks, Pediatrics, Annual eye test, Family planning (Insertion of DIu) and Vasectomy (8 month wait period) and a dental service. For a no obligation quote contact Gaynor on 951 390 700 or email admin@essentialcover.com See adverts on pages 14 and 15

Ah, Amóre… Love. We celebrate it on Valentine’s Day and send that special someone a card or buy them a whimsical gift. Some of us spend small fortunes on wine and food at expensive restaurants and one hears more and more often that it’s just one more day that business uses to separate gullible people from their hard-earned cash. But isn’t love worth celebrating? Yes, it can lead to our hearts getting broken, but I’m old enough (and maybe philosophical enough) to think that it’s worth it. Where would our lives be without love? We can have our hearts broken and swear to never again put ourselves in a so vulnerable position, but very few of us can resist it. We’re born to love and be loved; it’s in our genes. And very often when we don’t experience it, we feel that there’s something missing in our lives. There’s a secret to love. We need to love ourselves first. Tall order, I know. But when we love and accept ourselves, even though we’re imperfect, its so much easier to love someone else with their imperfections. When we choose to love ourselves, we see the world differently, and with it, the people, too. Our lives become more harmonic. We have more peace. We like ourselves better. We smile more. We deal with challenges in a better way. We become more attractive. So here’s my challenge to you: Find something that you like about yourself. Celebrate it, then go on to find something else that you like about you. Go on, dig around a little bit; you’d be surprised at how many good qualities you have, given half a chance. Remember, we’re our own worst critics, so give that inner critic a vacation and enjoy exploring your good sides. Once you’ve found them, allow them to shine. You’d be surprised at how quickly your outlook – and your world – can change. So give love a chance. Who knows, maybe Mr. or Ms. Right is just around the corner. Or maybe you’ll find that you’re already married to them… By Mary Ann, Torre del Mar

Film iew ngton Rev Paddi Launched by a much-loved children’s book, A Bear Called Paddington (1958) by Michael Bond, which spawned yet more books, a clutch of TV series of varying quality, and oodles of merchandising, Paddington Bear is not a brand to be messed with lightly. It’s a relief to report that the final film is actually quite charming, thoughtful and as cuddly as a plush toy. Inevitably, the opening stretch gussies up Paddington’s backstory considerably. Where the original book was content to merely tell the reader that our hero was a stowaway on a boat from “Darkest Peru” raised by an aunt now in a home for retired bears, the film shows us this and more. First, a mock newsreel unfolds, telling how Paddington’s Aunt Lucy and uncle Pastuzo (voiced by Imelda Staunton and Michael Gambon, respectively) met a mysterious British explorer who introduced them, cargo-cult-style, to the wonder that is marmalade and also helpfully left behind a

gramophone that taught them English with a received-pronunciation accent. But years later, by which time their young, orphaned and notably disaster-prone nephew has come to live with Lucy and Pastuzo, the latter is tragically killed in an earthquake and this sets the young bear on his way to London. But at Paddington Station, he finds the locals less welcoming than he’d expected. Star Rating - ****/*****

s e p o c s Horo by Juanita Banana of www.AbsoluteAxarquia.com ARIES: March 21-April 20 If you idealise those you’re in a romantic relationship with, instead of really getting to know them and their genuine positive qualities, you will be in danger of being badly let down. Valuable guidance or advice may enter your life in an unexpected manner TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Become aware of your repressed emotions and resentments and find a way to reléase them to achieve the happiness you’ve earned and deserve. Beware of allowing your reactions to become angry or manipulative GEMINI: May 22-June 21 To avoid the potential of profesional failure, delegate responsibilities that exceed your limitations and time constraints. February is a time of contradiction between spirituality and materialism for Gemini and not a good month to begin relationships CANCER: June 22-July 22 Romantic relationships become more solid, allowing you to share aspects that until now you may have fought against. You’re missing people who are no longer geographically close – let them know before time slips away LEO: July 23-August 23 Your rebelliousness, fierce pride and exuberant aspiration for independence and absolute freedom may need to be curbed this month to better evaluate the opportunities presented. Avoid mixing business with pleasure VIRGO: August 24-September 22 You face uncertainty, confusion and lack of confidence as you question many aspects of your life, particularly your goals and ambitions and your ability to achieve them. You deserve to succeed and the best path to do so is to simplify your life to the fullest

LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 You feel a need to experience new challenges and meet and relate to new people as yourself, an independent entity, and not one half of a couple or other partnership. Some changes to your personal life can positively achieve this and prevent resentment SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 You are up against arrogance and extravagance as someone attempts to thwart your establishment of good working links. Remain detached and diligent but don’t allow this to be interpreted as coldness SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 You should feel comfortable and stable, emotionally balanced, even protected by spiritual forces, allowing you to constructively overcome any obstacles. In optimum health, this is a good time to travel or study and you can do so with the approval of those who are important to you. Love life! CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Beware of impulsive behaviour and over excitement that might lead to difficulties, hypertension, even accidents. Superficially, or with real effort, you continue to fight for the rights of those who have less. Exercise is important to channel your excess energies AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 Sensitive and in excellent spirits, you will make good, positive impressions on those who count, allowing you to participate in what previously seemed just a pipedream. Beware of becoming involved with something that might be considered ‘shadey business’ and of problems with an electronic device PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Your strength and energy are tested this month as you face a power struggle with auuthorities. Your lust for power, along with a ruthless side of your personality that wants to destroy your opponent, should be curbed or you will experience a crisis that will cause major changes in your life

) : a h a Jokes h An Amish woman and her daughter were riding in an open buggy one cold, blustery January day. The daughter said to the mother, "My hands are freezing cold." The mother replied, "Put your hands between your legs. The body heat will warm them up." So the daughter did, and her hands warmed up. The next day, the daughter was riding in the buggy with her boyfriend. The boyfriend said, "My hands are freezing cold." The daughter said, "Put them between my legs, they'll warm up." The next day, the boyfriend is driving in the buggy with the daughter. He said, "My nose is freezing cold." The daughter said, "Put it between my legs. It will warm up." He did, and his nose warmed up. The next day, the boyfriend is driving again with the daughter and he said, "My penis is frozen solid." The next day, the daughter is driving in the buggy with her mother, and she says to her mother, "Have you ever heard of a penis?" The slightly concerned mother says, "Sure, why do you ask?" The daughter says, "Well, they make one hell of a mess when they thaw out. ------------------------------------------------------------Two men fought their entire life about whether Jesus was Black or White. The two men died together in a car accident. Finally when they reached the gates of heaven Jesus walked up to them and said "BuENOS DIAS!" ------------------------------------------------------------A Rabbi and a Priest get into a car accident and it's a bad one. Both cars are totally demolished, but, amazingly, neither of the clerics are hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the rabbi sees the priest's collar and says, "So you're a priest. I'm a rabbi. Just look at our cars. There's nothing left, but we are unhurt. This must be a

sign from God. God must have meant that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace the rest of our days." The Priest replies, "I agree with you completely. This must be a sign from God." The Rabbi continues, "And look at this. Here's another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of whisky didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this and celebrate our good fortune." Then he hands the bottle to the priest. The priest agrees, takes a few big swigs, and hands the bottle back to the rabbi. The rabbi takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap on, and hands it back to the priest. The Priest asks, "Aren't you having any?" The Rabbi replies, "No...I think I'll wait for the police." ------------------------------------------------------------An old priest who became sick of all the people in his parish who kept confessing to adultery. One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, "If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I'll leave the priesthood!" Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had "fallen". This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age. About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the Mayor of the town and seemed very concerned. The priest said, "you have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen." The Mayor started to laugh, realising that noone had told the new priest about the code word. Before the mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, "I don't know what you're laughing about, Your wife fell two times this week."

Jokes h a ha :) A wife was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband's key in the door. "Stay where you are," she said. "He's so drunk he won't even notice you're in bed with me." Sure enough, the husband lurched into bed none the wiser, but a few minutes later, through a drunken haze, he saw six feet sticking out at the end of the bed. He turned to his wife: "Hey, there are six feet in this bed. There should only be four. What's going on?" "Nonsense," said the wife. "You're so drunk you miscounted. Get out of bed and try again. You can see better from over there." The husband climbed out of bed and counted. "One, two, three, four. You're right, you know." ------------------------------------------------------------The drunken wino was stumbling down the street with one foot on the curb and one foot in the gutter. A cop pulled up and said, "I've got to take you in, sir. You're obviously drunk" The wasted wino asked, "Ociffer, are ya absolutely sure I'm drunk?" "Yeah, buddy, I'm sure," said the copper. "Let's go." Obviously relieved, the wino said "That's a relief - I thought I was a cripple." ------------------------------------------------------------Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a bar in Fort Worth, Texas. After last orders, the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity in which he tried his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his truck and trailer and fall into it. He sat there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally, he got into the car and started the engine, switched the wipers on and off....it was a fine, dry summer night, flicked the blinkers on and off a couple of times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights. He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then

remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patrons' vehicles left. Finally, when his was the only car left in the parking lot, he pulled out and drove slowly down the road. The police officer, having waited patiently all this time, now started up his patrol car, put on the flashing lights, promptly pulled the man over and administered a breathalyzer test. To his amazement, the breathalyzer indicated no evidence that the man had consumed any alcohol at all! Dumbfounded, the officer said, 'I'll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken.' 'I seriously doubt it', said the truly proud Hillbilly. 'Tonight I'm the designated decoy.' ------------------------------------------------------------An angry wife was complaining about her husband spending all his free time in a bar, so one night he took her along with him. "What'll you have?" he asked. "Oh, I don't know. The same as you I suppose," she replied. So, the husband ordered a couple of Jack Daniel's and threw his down in one shot. His wife watched him, then took a sip from her glass and immediately spat it out. "Yuck, that's TERRIBLE!" she spluttered. "I don't know how you can drink this stuff!" "Well, there you go," cried the husband. "And you think I'm out enjoying myself every!"
