m Fro Ed... the
Welcome to the January 2021 edition. I would like to start by wishing you all — advertisers, readers, family and friends — a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR. Let’s pray this one is better for us all! 2020 was certainly a year to remember but for the majority of us, it was not a particularly nice one. Sadly, I believe 2021 will start off in a similar way but I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking, hoping and praying that by March/April time, things will improve drastically for the whole world. If you can hang in there, do — be patient and consider new ideas about how your product can benefit expats living in The Axarquia. I truly believe that once we are back to some normality again, things will go a little crazy for a while; places will be heaving as people have been so restricted with what they could — and couldn’t — do during the past 12 months. I’m sure that life on the other side of this will be good again — if not better — as we will not take any day for granted and live and enjoy life to the fullest extent possible.
Like many businesses, we have had extra time for thinking throughout the lockdown. At The Sentinella, we decided to create a website that has all the features we would wish for our clients. This takes time and effort and we have put in hundreds of hours to try and bring you the perfect website; we hope that you will like what you see. Its main aims are to bring more clients and business to our customers and provide more information for viewers. We hope to launch the new site at the end of January/beginning of February. So watch this space for the launch date!

Nose job A man has finally had a coin removed from his nose after it was stuck for more than half a century. The 59-year-old unnamed Russian man was aged just six when he wedged the money into his right nostril. He was ‘too scared’ to tell his ‘strict’ mother about it and then later ‘forgot,’ local media reported. The man apparently managed to live for the next 50 years unimpeded by the blockage until he recently started complaining he could not breathe at all in his right nostril. Rhinoliths – stones in the nasal cavity – had formed around the coin, constricting his ability to breathe. Medics carried out endoscopic surgery under general anaesthetic, removing the stones and retrieving the Soviet one kopek coin from his nose. Trade booster Since mid-November, shining metal monoliths have suddenly appeared - and then vanished - in the strangest locations, from the Utah desert to a Romanian mountainside. Recently, one popped up outside a Pittsburgh candy store. Capitalising on the intrigue surrounding the other monoliths, the owner of Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop, Christopher Beers, commissioned a 10-foot tall, 24-inch wide triangle of plywood covered in sheet metal. Beers said he was captivated by sculptures that had made headlines, the first appearing in Utah's Red Rock Country, vaguely resembling the so-called monoliths in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film "2001: A Space Odyssey." He enlisted a colleague to erect a similar enigma outside his store. One Facebook post was all it took to generate a media buzz around the "mysterious" metallic creation. "Hopefully, it's a reminder to support small, local businesses that have been so badly hit" by COVID-19,” said Beers, owner of the independent chain of 10 candy stores in Pennsylvania and Ohio. "And isn't it fun to have something to talk about beside the pandemic?!"

Strange News (Continued)
Soul star Children with disabilities in a Spanish special-needs school near Barcelona could not hide their excitement when Soul the therapy dog walked in wagging her tail, these visits have led to a marked improvement in their behaviour. Special education teacher Meritxell Arias explained that because the teachers use face masks, the children cannot see them smile. "But the dog does not wear a mask and that is giving us a response that we did not expect," she said. With the kids back at school in SantVicencdels Horts after six months at home due to coronavirus restrictions, the therapy dog programme is a big help, said director Joan Frencesc Porras. “My students have become more responsive and collaborative, with faster reactions, so the dog has been a very important tool for us," he said.

Cat suits It may not be haute couture, but former Indonesian school teacher turned tailor Fredi Lugina Priadi has found a lucrative market for his cat fashions, creating unique costumes and cosplay outfits for cats. After quitting his job as a teacher, he tried his hand at a number of businesses before stumbling upon cat fashions, an idea from one of his cat-loving cousins. The 39-year-old now supplies outfits to picky pet owners looking to dress their felines in everything from superhero outfits like Thor and Superman to nurse uniforms. "At first, I thought the idea was weird," said Fredi. "But it turned out to be funny to see the cats with costumes." Fredi works from a rustic workshop with a sewing machine in Bogor, just south of the capital Jakarta. Since setting up his online business three years ago, he now generates up to 3 million rupiah ($210) a month if he sells at least four pieces a day.

2021 - The Year Of The Ox
2020 was the year of the Rat, I don’t think it bought many of us much luck!! Maybe the Year of the Ox, 2021 will be luckier for us all. The lucky colours are metallic grey/white/silver and aqua blue.
Starting from February 12 2021, when the Chinese year of the Metal Ox begins, the colours grey/white/silver and aqua blue must be predominant around you to attract luck, prosperity, and health. So make a note in your diary now!
Health and luck depend on the colours we use to decorate the living room, a room that is extremely well used in the house. In Feng Shui, the colours that are present in the living room can influence our lives and can change our fortune. So if you are considering a change of design in your living room, think about the lucky colours for 2021. In Feng Shui, this applies also to the colours you wear, so to increase your luck wear
metallic accessories too.
The diamond, also known as the ‘stone of perfection’, is considered the stone of 2021. So ladies, a few hints to the right man in 2021 and you could get lucky! Also, check out the lucky colour for your Zodiac Sign. Rat – red, yellow, silver Ox – pink, emerald Tiger – grey, bronze Rabbit – pink, yellow, green Dragon – red, ruby, grey Snake – light yellow Horse – white and silver Goat – grey, silver Monkey – yellow and bright pink Rooster – pink and blue Dog – yellow, brown, aqua blue Pig – bright red and yellow So, whilst shopping around in the sales this year, hunt for the lucky colours!

Interesting Facts... The lack of a coastline poses no problem to Paraguay, they have still amassed the largest navy of any landlocked country in the world. Fancy an old fashioned duel? In Paraguay you can as it is still legal. You do need to have a medical professional on hand and both be registered blood donors though. One of the most shattering wars in modern history was the Paraguayan War. Fought between 1864 and 1870, when it was over Paraguay had less than 15% of its pre-war population remaining, with one man for every 5 women. Although the original native language, Guarani is still spoken by everyone in the country. You can find over 1,000 different types of birds in Paraguay, as well as Jaguars, crocodiles and anteaters. Don’t look for a doorbell when visiting someone in Paraguay. Clap your hands instead.

New Year. New Start. New You?
After a year of uncertainty where the situation has been out of our control, wouldn’t it be great if you could make some positive changes to your life!
Although we have been living with restrictions, we have also had a chance to stop, re-evaluate and take stock of our priorities. While we may have not been in control of many things at the moment, things which we previously might have taken for granted, we can take control of how we think and feel in ourselves.
You can reinvent yourself. You can create the future that is rightfully yours. Why shouldn't you be successful? Why shouldn't you have all the happiness and peace of mind you want, or whatever it is that you desire? The answer is easy - there is no reason why you shouldn't, because you can do whatever it is that you desire to do, so long as it is humanly possible and doesn't involve hurting others in the process. What do you want to change? Your image, aspects of your personality, or is it the way you feel or think inside?
31
You can learn to accept those things about yourself that you cannot change and change the things about you that you instinctively know you can do something about. Whether it's your image, your confidence, your self esteem - you can change it. You don't have to do what you've always done - you don't have to be what you've always been – you can develop new behaviours and new ways of thinking and feeling and acting and being.
Do you need help to take stock of what’s wrong and take steps towards making things right?

Family Law And Child Custody
At De Cotta Law we can advise you on all aspects of Family Law including divorce, pension and maintenance rights and custody of children. In all of these cases we look to reach a negotiated agreement. An understanding of what would happen in the Courts if you cannot reach agreement does help many couples to see that keeping the matter out of court, but in the hands of lawyers seeking mediation, is far better. If finally, an agreement cannot be reached, and you do have to go to court we can assist in both the English courts and in Spain. There are Conventions in place post Brexit that will allow maintenance arrangements to stay in place and for mutual recognition of custody and visits orders. Some of these may not be directly enforceable. This means it may be necessary post Brexit to seek recognition in Spain before an order can be enforced.
In Spain it has been recognised that one of the essential reasons for travel during the Covid restrictions is to visit your children in any country. If you do not have a specific court order documentation one can be prepared by your lawyer with the agreement of the parents. A situation where one parent is not sure when the child is returning or where there is uncertainty about the times and duration of the visit can lead to stressful situations which are very unsettling for the child and can create unnecessary conflict between the parents. Sadly, and all too often, formalising the agreement in writing is considered unnecessary until it is too late and a conflict arises. In the worst cases this can lead to lengthy and costly court proceedings under the Hague Convention on the abduction of
41
children where one parent is suddenly deprived of contact or visits. Prevention is not only better than cure but can also help to reduce any tensions by having a fixed pattern of visits which benefits the children and the parents.
Should you require any more information or to discuss the matter in confidence with a lawyer please contact us on family@decottalaw.net or call on +34 952 527 014. www.decottalaw.com

English In The Future
Having chosen English as the prefered language on the EU, the European Parliament commisioned a feasibilty study in the ways of improving efficiency in communications between government depts. European officails have often pointed out that English spelling is unnecessary and difficult eg: cough, plough, rough, through and thorough. What is clearly needed is a phased programme of changes to iron out these anomalies. The programme would, of course, be admistered by a commitee staff at top level by participating nations. In the first year, for example, the commitee would suggest using 's' instead of the soft 'c'. Sertainly sivil servants in all the cities would resieve this news with joy. Then the hard 'c' could be replased by 'k' since both letters are pronounsed alike. Not only would this klear up konfusion in the minds of the klerikal workers, but typewriters kould be made with one less letter.
There would be growing enthusiasm when in the sekond year, it was anounsed that the troublesome 'ph' would henseforth be written 'f'. This would make words like fotograf twenty persent shorter to print.
43
In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possilbe. Governments would enkourage the removal of double letters which have always been a deterant to akurate speling. We would agre that the horible mes of the silent 'e's' in the languag is disgrasful. Therefor we kould drop thes and kontinu to read and writ as though nothing had hapened. By this tim it would be four years sins the skem began and the peopl would be reseptiv to steps sutch as replasing 'th' with 'z'. perhaps zen ze funktion of 'w' lould be taken on by 'v', vitch is after al, half a 'w'. Shortly after ziz ze unesessary' o kould be droped from words kontaining 'ou'. Similar arguments vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of letters. Kontinuing zis prses yer after yer, ve vud eventuli hav a reli sesible riten styl. After tventi yers zer vud be no mor trubls, difkultis and evrivun vud fin it ezi tu understand ech ozer. Ze drems of the guvermn vud finali hav kum tru.... Well done if you managed to read it all!

Want To Learn A Language - Trilingo Idiomas Can Help You!
Trilingo Idiomas is an English owned private language academy. We offer classes in all languages, but our biggest clientele is for English and Spanish courses, both with native, experienced and enthusiastic teachers. These provide a range of lessons for all ages, nationalities and abilities:
Spanish Classes/Courses: Offered to non-natives/ex-pats of all nationalities.
•One 2 One classes: These are structured lessons based at the academy with our highly experienced Spanish teachers working with the latest books to suit student ability. They can consist of either one or two people (couples) plus the designated qualified teacher. Proving very popular and successful with many foreign natives (English, German, Belgium, Canadian………) and students wanting to prepare for the B1/B2/C1 and Spanish Citizenship exams.
•Spanish Intensive courses: Currently, we are offering more intensive courses for people who want and need to improve their Spanish rapidly, e.g: 20 hour course - Monday to Friday 4 hours per day and start from beginners level (A2) and continues up to B2 level and even C1 (Advanced) if required. This course can assist a maximum of 6 students per course. 10 hour course - is a much more intimate course for only 2 students and is from Monday to Friday, 2 hours per day.
All courses include materials plus a local excursion to enable students to use what they have learnt and get to know the local town, visiting a museum or similar.
•Spanish Conversation classes: 2 x one-hour lessons offered at the academy, split into level ability (beginners to upper intermediate) with our Spanish native teacher preparing and organising subjects and offering grammar assistance to help students to improve and gain confidence quickly. English classes: Offered mainly to Spanish – young pupils aged 4-16 plus adults from absolute beginners (initiation) through to advanced level and B1/B2/C1 exam preparations.
Any other language: Offered to all nationalities and ages – Spanish school children extra help lessons (Apoyo) and classes tailored to suit needs. We always find an experienced native teacher for any language necessary, just ask! Why choose Trilingo Idiomas?
We are a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced group of owners and teachers all wanting to share our vast knowledge and experiences to give all our students the best learning experience possible to achieve their goals. Our classrooms are of larger than average size enabling us to maintain the social distancing measures required during the current COVID-19 situation and we are constantly sanitizing rooms and our premises. We are proven and able to adapt quickly to new situations when required, for instance: to convert classes to online via Zoom as and when required. Constantly improving our services and adapting to better and more professional systems. Teachers and owners continue to train and also attend seminars/courses to update and learn about the latest techniques and materials.

A seven-year-old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him! After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary MODERN

Happy New Year Everyone!
New Year Facts
The earliest known New Year’s celebrations date back to 2000 BC in Ancient Mesopotamia.
In Japan, Buddhist temples all over the country ring their bells 108 times at midnight to symbolize and get rid of the 108 types of human weakness.
In Spain, eating grapes at midnight is both a tradition and a superstition. At the stroke of each chime at midnight, Spaniards eat 1 - 12 grapes symbolising 12 lucky months ahead.
Whatever New Year traditions we speak of are actually meant for bringing good luck. For instance, eating black-eyed peas on the day of New Year is believed to bring good luck in several parts of the United States. New Year’s Eve is often celebrated with fireworks. In ancient times, fire and noise were said to dispel evil spirits and bring good luck.
We wish you a cheerful 2021

A predicted one million people usually flock to Times Square to see the ball drop. The original New Year's Eve Ball weighed 700 pounds and was five feet in diameter. It was made of iron and wood and was decorated with 100 25-watt light bulbs.

The largest celebration in Australia is held in its largest city: Sydney. The “Midnight Fireworks” are regularly watched by approximately 1.5–2 million people at Sydney Harbour. In Italy, people wear red underwear on New Year’s Day to bring good luck all year long.
"Auld Lang Syne" was written by Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788. He may have based it on a folk song.
3% of Americans don't plan on celebrating New Year at all.

Random Jokes :)
A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath and stopped centimetres from a shop window. For a second everything went quiet in the cab, then the elderly driver turned and said 'Look son, don't ever do that again, you scared the daylights out of me!' The passenger apologised and said, 'I didn't realise that a little tap would scare you so much.'

Random New Year Jokes :)
I was going to quit all my bad habits for the new year, but then I remembered that nobody likes a quitter. I thought I was lost on my way to the New Year's Eve party, but then I found the Auld Lang sign.
Peter, at a New Year's party, turns to his friend, Ken, and asks for a cigarette. 'I thought you made a New Year's resolution to quit smoking,' Ken responds. 'I'm in the process of quitting,' replies Peter with a grin. 'Right now, I am in the middle of phase one.' 'Phase one?' wonders Ken. 'Yeah,' laughs Peter, 'I've quit buying.' On New Year's Eve, Daniel was in no shape to drive, so he sensibly left his van in the car park and walked home. As he was wobbling
along, he was stopped by a policeman. 'What are you doing out here at four o'clock in the morning?' asked the police officer. 'I'm on my way to a lecture,' answered Roger. 'And who on earth, in their right mind, is going to give a lecture at this time on New Year's Eve?' enquired the constable sarcastically. 'My wife,' slurred Daniel grimly. What happened to the man who stole a calendar on New Year’s Eve? He got 12 months.
On New Year's Eve, Marilyn stood up in the local pub and said that it was time to get ready. At the stroke of midnight, she wanted every husband to be standing next to the one person who made his life worth living. Well, it was kind of embarrassing. As the clock struck - the bartender was almost crushed to death.

Random New Year Jokes :)
Women get a little more excited about New Years Eve than men do. It’s like an excuse: you drink too much, you make a lot of promises you’re not going to keep; the next morning as soon as you wake up you start breaking them. For men, we just call that a date.
Every year on New Year's Eve, when everyone's counting down the final ten seconds to ring in the new year, I get up off the couch and stand up. I stand up and raise my left leg and just leave it raised for a little while until the countdown finishes and midnight strikes, so that I always start the new year off on the right foot. An Irish Girl comes back for New Years The other asked, "Where have you been all this time? Why did you not write to us, not even a line? Why didn't you call?"
71
The girl crying replied, "Dad, I became a prostitute." "Whaaa!!? Out of here you shameless harlot! You're a disgrace to this family." "OK, daddy. If that's your wish. I just came back to give mum this luxurious fur coat, title deed to a ten bedroom mansion plus a savings certificate for £4 million." "For me little brother, this gold Rolex and for you daddy, the sparkling new Mercedes limited edition convertible that's parked outside plus a membership to the country club and an invitation for you all to spend a fun New Years' Eve on board my new yacht in the Riviera, and..." "Now what was it ye said you had become, again?" says dad. Girl, crying again, "A prostitute dad!" "Oh! You scared me half to death, girl! I thought you said a Protestant. Come here and give your old man a hug!"

The aubergine or also known as the eggplant is native to southern India and Sri Lanka. It is part of the nightshade (Solanacene) family, which also includes tomatoes, potatoes, and chilli peppers and in some cases are known to cause severe allergic reactions.
Aubergines contain significant amounts of oxalate. Individuals with a history of oxalate-containing kidney stones should avoid overconsuming them.
Eggplant and other members of the nightshade family may worsen the symptoms of arthritis. Eggplant has spiny stem that can grow from 16 to 57 inches in height. Consuming eggplants are believed to boost cognitive activity and general mental health. A 100g serving of raw aubergine provides: 15kcal - 0.9g protein - 0.4g fat - 2.2g carbohydrate - 2.7g fibre. Eggplant is rich source of dietary fibres, vitamins C, K and vitamins of the B group, and minerals such as copper, phosphorus and magnesium.
Aubergines are rich in antioxidants, specifically nasunin found in aubergine skin – which gives it its purple colour.
Culinarily, it’s a vegetable, as it’s used in main dishes and not eaten for sweetness. Aubergines are high in fibre and low in fat and therefore recommended for those
managing type 2 diabetes or managing weight concerns. Aubergines may also help to lower bad cholesterol levels.
Over 60% of eggplants are produced in China alone. India, Egypt, Turkey, and Iran were also major producers. Eggplant can be consumed grilled, baked, boiled, stuffed or combined with meat and other vegetables. Eggplant is often used as a substitute for meat in vegetarian diet due to specific texture and taste of its flesh.

Property Issues: Building Survey
Over the next few editions I shall be highlighting some of the most common issues experienced by buyers of residential homes in the Costa del Sol, Andalusia, Spain.
Importance of a Building Survey Unfortunately, I still find that the majority of house buyers do not have a building survey carried out prior to purchase. The reason for this I can only speculate is that the majority of buyers purchase without the need for a mortgage and so therefore is not a requirement to do so by a third party. The properties are often purchased during the summer months when many of the main issues are not immediately apparent. The poor build quality is primally due to the building regulations not being adhered to by

the Town Halls and the Architects not visiting the construction site during the building process, (a surprisingly common practise).
Whilst the College of Architects has tried to improve the practice of Architects on more recently built homes, properties older than 10 years will have a surprisingly long list of defects associated with poor construction. Over the next few months I shall be highlighting the most common building and construction problems found that are not always apparent during a casual viewing but may prove costly and wreck your budget if they are not costed and known about prior to purchase. Director: Harry Bradbeer Writer: Jack Thorne Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Louis Partridge, Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin, and Helena Bonham Carter Rating: PG13 Running Time 2hr 3 mins
Enola Holmes is a thoroughly charming Netflix original movie, and will absolutely put you in a good mood.
The year is 1884 and Enola Holmes is on a mission — to find her mother, escape her brothers and live life on her own terms. It’s a tall order for the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes, whose age and gender make her battle an uphill one.
After Enola (Millie Bobby Brown of “Stranger
Things”) discovers on the morning of her 16th birthday that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, she reluctantly finds herself under the care of her brothers Mycroft (Sam Claflin) and Sherlock (Henry Cavill). Mycroft wants to send Enola to finishing school, but Enola, who has been raised by her mother to be independent, refuses to have her identity defined by domesticity.
Motivated by a set of clues left by her mother, Enola escapes to London. On her way to the city, she crosses paths with Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), a young lord also on the run from a suffocating fate. The pair form a predictable (but no less tender) bond. Based on the book series of the same name by Nancy Springer, the period film is tremendously fun as Enola fearlessly follows leads and hunts for clues, but the script actually takes time to consider what it means to be a woman in a man’s world at that time. The film’s value comes from a deeper investigation of power, familial bonds and the risks of changing a world determined to stay the same. Star Rating ***/*****

Random Joke :)
A married man left work early one Friday, but instead of going home, he spent the weekend partying with the boys. When he finally returned home on Sunday night, his wife really got on his case and stayed on it. After a few of hours of swearing and screaming, his wife paused and pointed at him and made him an offer. “How would you like it if you didn't see me for a couple of days?”.... The husband couldn't believe his luck, so he looked up, smiled and said, “That would suit me just fine!!” Monday went by, and the man didn't see his wife. Tuesday and Wednesday went by and he still didn't see her. Come Thursday, the swelling went down a bit and he could see her a little out of the corner of his left eye. 1. The hair of the dog Probably the one you will least want to try if you are feeling a bit rotten. It consists of drinking more alcohol to cure your hangover.
Remember, during your hangover it is important to drink water when you are thirsty, to re-hydrate yourself again. 4. Don’t drink so much! As simple as it sounds, the best cure for the hangover is don’t get drunk!!!
2. Eat a good breakfast Eating a good hearty breakfast after a night on the razzle will help to maintain your blood sugar levels.

Sad tribute Dawn French repeatedly broke down in tears while filming her Vicar Of Dibley comeback as she paid tribute to her late cast-mate Emma Chambers as Alice Tinker. In the show, her character Geraldine Granger speaks movingly of her friend Alice, who has died leaving her husband Hugo (James Fleet) heartbroken. French, 63, said the scenes were incredibly tough to complete. “Along with all the silly, funny stuff, there is a moment where we pay tribute to Alice and that was not easy to film. “Honestly, I had to do it seven times. I didn’t get through it once without tears.”
She said she has still not been able to watch the emotional episode. Chambers, much-loved by fans as dippy blonde Alice who famously never understood Geraldine’s jokes, died in 2018 from a heart attack aged 53.

When asked "What did you have for tea?" by his friend, Football Focus presenter Dan Walker, third-placed Vernon replied on Instagram: "Could only manage a little... stomach has totally shrunk!!" Family Fortunes host Vernon said that his time on the ITV show had left him feeling "drained".
"The medic weighed us after the show and I've lost just over two and a half stone, and I haven't got two and a half stone to lose,” he said in an interview. “You're physically drained, and you're emotionally drained too because you're missing your family." Poles apart Tom Cruise's daughter Bella has shut out the spotlight and prefers to live quietly while her superstar dad currently lives in luxury in a £342,000-a-month penthouse. Bella lives in Croydon in a three-bed home with her husband Max Parker and their pet reptile.

Meanwhile, Cruise has been residing in historic Corinthia Residences in the lap of luxury while filming in the British capital.
According to a source, he has a four-bed dream place with an indoor pool and amazing views of the cityscape. Located just down the road from 10 Downing Street, it's in the heart of the city. The source told Woman's Day: "Tom has a dedicated team of staff to look after his every whim, where he can call for room service from the Corinthia's in-house restaurants such as Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge's Bar & Grill." Bella and her husband Max tied the knot in a Scientology wedding at the Dorchester Hotel in London and made the move to Croydon in October 2017 to be closer to Max's parents. His father worked as a test pilot at Gatwick Airport while his mum is employed as an antiques restorer. Rita’s mum rants Rita Ora’s mum has slammed people who continue to flout Covid guidelines — despite her pop star daughter having done just that. Vera Sahatçiu, 56, who returned to the NHS to work as a psychiatric nurse amid the pandemic, has taken aim at those who are breaking the current UK restrictions.
She posted a photograph on Instagram of endless swarms of consumers who appeared to "forget" about social distancing in Regent Street, London, just before Christmas. She captioned it: “Can't believe this. Has the virus disappeared already?!”
Vera’s furious post came after Rita came under fire herself, for not isolating after a trip to Egypt. Rita flew to Cairo by private jet in November to perform at the five-star W Hotel but failed to self-isolate on her return to the UK a day later. Under current government rules, she should have quarantined for 14 days when she got home. Instead, the singer was seen arriving at Casa Cruz restaurant in London's Notting Hill on November 28, where she held her 30th birthday bash during England's second countrywide lockdown. Afterwards, Rita was forced to issue a public apology.

In The Beginning
We are now, finally, into a new year and leave behind what has for so many people been one of the most difficult years we can all remember, apart from those who still have wartime memories, which are infinitely worse – at least there was still food in the shops this time, even though almost a year ago now everyone made that mad rush to the supermarkets, filling their trolleys to the brim with supplies and toilet paper ran out of stock!
Almost one year on, and let’s hope that we are now seeing light at the end of the tunnel… With a new year beginning, we are preparing – preparing for a possible tidal wave of Europeans jumping on planes (or in cars, we must keep up the environmental improvements Covid brought us) and rushing over to Spain to enthusiastically look for a property, all jostling for the best offers and bargains! We are all crossing our fingers that this will happen, as we move into the Springtime, but in these strange times, only
93
time will tell. Meanwhile, I would strongly advise anyone who has been unsure about whether this is the best time to sell their property here, that now might be the right moment. Believe it or not, talk to any local agency and they will tell you that despite the travel restrictions which has meant clients have been unable to come over in recent months in the numbers we normally see, properties have been selling. And this will only increase as we move into the new year with anti-covid vaccinations now rolling out across Europe. So, if you have been wondering whether to sell up or not, give me a call. Now is a very good time – always at the right price of course. So, let’s get ready, tighten our seatbelts, and set off with enthusiasm and energy into 2021! A Job Well Done!
During the month of December, some of the British local business owners of Torre del Mar came together in an effort to collect as many gifts as they could, which would be delivered to the most affected families in the area this Christmas time.
A massive thank you to all of the customers/clients that went out of their way and left a gift in any one of the following locations, thank you ever so much. Your gift would have put a smile on a childs face this Christmas.
With special thanks to: La Tasca - with thanks to owners Sheila, Mark and Josh and special thanks to Debbie and Trevor Flay for their help
Oasis Hair & Beauty - with thanks to owners Sacha and Karen The Belvedere - with thanks to owner Courtney and to Wendy Nerding and Beverly Clough for their time and help wrapping the gifts.
95
The Irish Rover - with thanks to owners Debbie and Tony and another thanks to Debbie Flay their Lymes Disease Awareness Ambassador who is always doing things for charity and to Karina Jiminez their favourite Spanish/English teacher who spent their time to help to box and wrap the gifts. Bar Samba - with thanks to owners Sam and Nicky
The response was fantastic. Debbie from The Irish Rover along with Jaana Luoma, a Finnish resident handed over, just over one hundred Christmas boxes to Lux-Mundi in Torre del Mar on the 17th December, allowing them time to sort through them and to make sure they were delivered to the appropriate families of need this Christmas time. This involved help also from local residents, David, Simon and Terry. A huge well done and joint effort to the local businesses of Torre del Mar, and to everyone that dropped off a gift.

Wine: Gems Of France

French cuisine is legendary and, complementing many dining occasions, are fabulous wines from France. France produces wines for all occasions and to suit all palates. From whites, through all others, to Sparkling and really great reds, France supplies superb wines, worldwide, many of which are multi award-winning. For this quest I searched for a family producer of well-presented high-quality wines, with knowledge and experience of previous generations.
splendid wine range, is a very popular red production. The deep ruby-red colour entices to the wonderful bouquet and mouthfeel, to follow. This powerful and well-balanced wine has a great palate sensation and finish. P. Ferraud & Fils Morgon Domaine Ferraud Les Charmes is a further example of the quality wines from this producer. Again, the bouquet satisfies the nasal experience, very well indeed. The flavours on the mouth come through as rich and fruity. This full-bodied, powerful red wine is extremely popular, has a

P. Ferraud & Fils Saint-Véran La Chardonneraie I found as an excellent white wine. The designation of Saint Véran was recognised during 1971, with Pierre Ferraud being a main character for its promotions and recognitions. Utilising the Chardonnay grape variety, to great advantage, this wine will not disappoint and has many followers. A very pleasant bouquet precedes the grand mouthfeel. Superb with white meats, fish and seafood dishes. P. Ferraud & Fils Brouilly Domaine Rolland, that I located amongst their

Essex Girl enters a sex shop and asks for a vibrator. The man says “Choose from our range on the wall.” She says “I'll take the red one.” The man replies “That's a fire extinguisher.” ------------------------------------------------------------A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, “Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passengers.” The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, “What would you like to talk about?” “Oh, I don't know,” said the stranger. “How about nuclear power?” and he smiles. “OK,” she said. “That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?” The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, “Hmmm, I have no idea.” To which the little girl replies, “Do you really feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know s***?” ------------------------------------------------------------Scientists at Rolls Royce built a gun specifically to launch dead chickens at the windshields of airliners and military jets all travelling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields. American engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the American engineers.
When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's back-rest in two and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin like an arrow shot from a bow. The horrified Yanks sent Rolls Royce the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the British scientists for suggestions. Rolls Royce responded with the following one-line memo: Defrost the chicken! ------------------------------------------------------------A highly timid little man, ventured into a biker bar in the Bronx and clearing his throat asked, “Um, err, which of you gentlemen owns the Doberman tied outside to the parking meter?” A giant of a man, wearing biker leathers, his body hair growing out through the seams, turned slowly on his stool, looked down at the quivering little man and said, “It's my dog. Why?” “Well,” squeaked the little man, obviously very nervous, “I believe my dog just killed it, sir.” “What?” roared the big man in disbelief. “What in the hell kind of dog do you have?” “Sir,” answered the little man, “It's a little four week old female puppy.” “Bull!” roared the biker, “How could your puppy kill my Doberman?” “It appears that your dog choked on her, sir.” ------------------------------------------------------------A man walks in a pub with a lovely dog. Everyone was making a fuss of it until the football results came on and Tottenham had lost. The dog went mad and tried to bite eveyone. “What’s happened to it?” asked the landlord. “It does it every time Spurs lose.” “What happens when they win?” “I don’t know, I’ve only had it 6 months!!”

After about an hour of trying to remember to no avail he got on the telephone and gave her a call. Embarrassed, he admitted that he didn't remember her answer to the marriage proposal. “Oh”, she said, “I'm so glad you called. I remembered saying “yes” to someone, but I couldn't remember who it was.” ------------------------------------------------------------Two guys and a union worker were fishing on a lake one day, when Jesus walked across the water and joined them in the boat. When the three astonished men had settled down enough to speak, the first guy asked humbly, “Jesus, I've suffered from back pain ever since I took shrapnel in the Vietnam war...could you help me?” “Of course, my son,” Jesus said, and when he touched the man's back, he felt relief for the first time in years. The second man, who wore very thick glasses and had a hard time reading and driving, asked if Jesus could do anything about his eyesight. Jesus smiled, removed the man's glasses and tossed them in the lake. When they hit the water, the man's eyes cleared and he could see everything distinctly. When Jesus turned to heal the union worker, the guy put his hands up and cried defensively, “Don't touch me! I'm on long term disability.” ------------------------------------------------------------Jones came into the office an hour late for the third time in one week and found the boss

waiting for him. “What's the story this time, Jones?” he asked sarcastically. “Let's hear a good excuse for a change.” Jones sighed, “Everything went wrong this morning, Boss. The wife decided to drive me to the station. She got ready in ten minutes, but then the drawbridge got stuck. Rather than let you down, I swam across the river -look, my suit's still damp -- ran out to the airport, got a ride on Mr. Thompson's helicopter, landed on top of Radio City Music Hall, and was carried here on piggyback by one of the Rockettes." “You'll have to do better than that, Jones,” said the boss, obviously disappointed. “No woman can get ready in ten minutes.” ------------------------------------------------------------I got a phone call from a gorgeous ex-girlfriend the other day. We lost track of time chatting about the wild, romantic nights we used to enjoy together. I couldn’t believe it when she asked if I’d be interested in meeting up to try and rekindle a little bit of that ‘old magic’. “Wow!” I said. “I don’t know if I could keep pace with you now. I’m a bit older and a bit balder than when you last saw me.” She just giggled and said she was sure I’d rise to the challenge. “Yeah,” I said. “Just so long as you don’t mind a man with a waistline that’s a few inches wider these days.” She laughed and told me to stop being so silly. She teased me saying that tubby bald men were cute. Then she said it didn’t matter in the slightest about my hair or my weight and that she’d even put on a few pounds herself. So I told her to get lost. ------------------------------------------------------------What's the ideal weight for a mother-in-law? About 2.3 pounds including the urn.

ARIES: March 21-April 20 2021 will be focused around finance, although possibly not in the way you would hope. Time to get organised and make a budget you can stick to before things get out of control. Careers can be advanced for Aries willing to network and be part of a team
TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Hang on for an action packed year. Agreements and compromise will be easier than usual, so if there’s an issue between you and your loved one, this is the year to finally clear the air and lay it to rest. Home and family life will consequently be rewarding
GEMINI: May 22-June 21 Your plans will more easily advance if, while remaining honest and above board, you work discreetly behind the scenes, rather than openly showing your hand and pushing others into confrontation
CANCER: June 22-July 22 The focus this coming year will be on friends and the future, with many Cancerians making serious decisions about both. Someone you meet through shared interests may become a new best friend. Step out of your shell and invite them for coffee or a shared activity as joy will be the reward of this friendship
LEO: July 23-August 23 This is an excellent year for Leo’s career matters, including promotions, agreements and reclassifications. Using your powers of tact and flattery, superiors may be more inclined than usual to give you what you want, leading to major changes in your day to day life
VIRGO: August 24-September 22 Confusion about where you and your relationship are heading could cloud the early part of 2021. Try to stick with facts and not rely too heavily on others when making decisions, as there is the likelihood that you will be told only what you want to hear
LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 A good time for Librans to get health and fitness levels up, as the indications are good for fresh starts in this area. Focus on small changes that you can manage every day rather than a major commitment to overhaul your life, as this is the way you will get the results you want SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 2021 is all about love for Scorpio this year, especially if you are married or in a long term relationship. There are wonderful astronomical aspects for communication in your relationship zone bringing about a happy, loving and harmonious year. SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 Things are looking up romantically as a chance encounter could easily lead to a new romance if you pick up the courage to make a move. It will be up to you to make it happen if that is what you truly want
CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Children will take up a lot of energy for Capricorn parents this year. Pressures may mount even though you are having fun, so it is important that you take time to relax when opportunities arise. Sports and hobbies will be more exciting than usual but may also mean more commitment
AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 2021 is a year of endings and new beginnings as a cycle comes to an end. This is a very positive aspect, opening up new opportunities for many Aquarians. Stay grounded and focused on the bigger picture, especially if your future direction is unclear
PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Keep a close watch on your tongue this year as casual gossip may cause big problems, especially in the workplace - remember the old saying that if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. The year end has excellent aspects for romance
