m Fro Ed... the Welcome to the January 2020 edition. Firstly, I would like to wish each and every one of you a very happy and prosperous New Year and welcome to 2020. Let’s hope it’s a good one! I am sitting here writing this six days before Christmas, wondering when I will fit in all my Christmas shopping — in amongst all the other things that I must do as well! — and in just a few days, you will be reading this and that’s it... it is all over for another year! Shortly the decs will be carefully packed away, the Christmas tree will come down, the remains of all the Christmas goodies will be still be on the go right into March (if you’re like me!) ... and if you’re not, you will begrudgingly throw or give them away. No more lazing on the sofa watching a good old Christmas movie, feet up, sipping cava or a nice glass of mulled wine whilst dipping into the chocs! It’s all back to normal — well, that is until The Three Kings arrive on the evening of 5th January when we start the celebrations all over again, so maybe don’t ditch that leftover Christmas food just yet! I would like to congratulate Linda and Geoff from Second Time Around in Puente don Manuel for their kindness. For the past two years, they have given up their Christmas time, flown over to the UK and gone into Charing Cross station, London, to help feed and clothe the homeless. Each year they go armed with the essentials — clothes, blankets, trainers, food, etc. However this year, they have organised a few events here and have raised a massive €900 — what makes it that little bit more special this time too is that they have gone out of their way to research and source what the homeless really do need at this time of year. Linda had come to realise that the homeless do tend to receive lots of food at Christmas from kind-hearted and

Strange News generous people, but what they really need are hot drinks and warmth, so Linda sourced fifty insulated tents so they could stay warm and dry. What a great idea! I am sure that all the people that received one will be extremely thankful to you both — along with the hot drinks you also provided. So, a very heartfelt ‘well done’ to both of you from all of us. So, there we have it — ‘2020’ a new year and time for a new beginning, new challenges, new goals, new achievements, new commitments, new friends and best of all, new memories. The list is endless, so make it a good one! Oh! and PS: will this be the month that the UK finally leaves the EU?!

Fishy tale One man's love of sushi nearly killed him after it led to his body becoming riddled with tapeworm. The Chinese man had gone to his doctor complaining of stomach ache and itchy skin. To his horror, scans revealed his entire body had been infected with tapeworm after eating too much sashimi — raw slices of fish. Humans contract tapeworm infections from sushi by eating raw fish that has been infected with the worm in its larvae stage. When fish eat tapeworm eggs, the hatching larvae attach themselves to the intestinal wall of the fish and the worms infect the fish flesh. Because sushi is not cooked, the larvae can in turn transfer into the flesh of any human that eats the fish. Once a human is infected, a tapeworm will grow inside the intestine to a length of up to 15metres over a period of weeks. It can survive for years and go undetected for weeks or months, in turn releasing its own eggs that infect other parts of the human body. Symptoms include fatigue, constipation and abdominal discomfort — which can be so mild the victim may not notice anything is wrong. However, if larvae begin to migrate to other parts of the body they can start to eat away at the liver, eyes, heart or brain and cause life-threatening conditions. The man was treated at the Guangzhou No. 8 People's Hospital in Guangdong Province, in eastern China. Caring delivery Meals on wheels proved worth their weight in gold when a delivery driver discovered a woman in her 70s had got stuck in her bath. The unnamed woman went without food for over a week because she could not climb out of the tub at her home in Loughborough, Leicestershire. Dawn Jackson, from Wiltshire Farm Foods, was unable to get hold of her on the phone to deliver her meals so she became concerned. The company contacted police who broke in and discovered the woman, who told officers she had been there for eight days. A police spokesman said: ‘Officers managed to get her out and East Midlands Ambulance were called to carry out a medical assessment. Although hungry, she is okay.’ The woman is now recovering in hospital.

Strange News (Continued) Weed treat Every now and then a viral ‘dream job’ pops up offering candidates the chance to travel the world for £££, testing out private jets or something similar. Then there was this one — an advert for someone to smoke large amounts of weed. The company hiring specifies that the person they choose will have to live somewhere the drug is legal. The advert from AmericanMarijuana.org says: ‘We’re looking for someone to review a wide variety of cannabis products to give our readers an honest and reliable insight on them. ‘The applicant will have to write about the product in the form of a blog.’ The job ad says that the successful applicant ‘needs to be physically fit and healthy in general to carry out cannabis product reviews regularly’.

Forearm folly A former soldier who earned the nickname ‘Popeye’ after injecting his arms with jelly to create bulging biceps has had to undergo surgery to save his life. Bodybuilder Kirill Tereshin, 23, was warned he could die or need to have both his arms amputated because of the artificial biceps he had created. Surgeons at First Moscow State Medical University in the Russian capital said they had removed 3lb of dead muscle and three litres of petroleum jelly that had formed into a solid lump. And lead surgeon Dmitry Melnikov said his team was only a quarter of the way through the huge operation. It will take at least three more surgeries for all of the Vaseline-like jelly to be removed from Kirill’s arms, Dr Melnikov said. The surgeon added: ‘The problem is that so much petroleum jelly was injected, it has spread in the muscle and killed it.’

My New Year Resolutions My New Year’s Resolutions I will give all those funny little men that play their music in my ear when I am trying to eat and chat with friends at restaurants, at least 10 cents each... To get rid of them. I will not sit in the sun for more than 10 minutes at a time without lavishing on the factor 40. I will clean my car at least once a month, so that the dust doesn’t build up so thick that you can draw pictures in it and people can write rude words. I will learn a new skill. I will join a gym, like everyone else making New Years Resolutions. I will start my new diet of eating breakfast at breakfast time and not at lunchtime.

I will not use my horn in my car more than twice a day, I will use it properly and use it 18 times a day!  I will try and leave Torre del Mar at least once a month and venture to one of the other lovely towns in Axarquia. I will keep all my New Year’s Resolutions and if I don’t, I will make the effort to keep them all for the next year instead!

Noah’s Ark NOAH 2020 In the year 2020, the lord came unto Noah, who was now living in England and said, “Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me. Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing along with a few good humans.” He gave Noah the CAD drawings, saying, “You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights.” Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard - but no Ark. “Noah!” He roared,”I’m about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?” “Forgive me, Lord,” begged Noah, “but things have changed. I needed Building Regulations Approval. I’ve been arguing with the Fire Brigade about the need for a sprinkler system. My neighbours claim that I should have obtained planning permission for building the Ark in my garden because it is development of the site even though in my view it is a temporary structure. We had to go to appeal to the Secretary of State for a decision. Then the Department of Transport demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark’s move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it. Getting the wood was another problem. All the decent trees have Tree Preservation Orders on them and we live in a Site of Special Scientific Interest set up in order to protect the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!  When I started gathering the animals, animal charity sued me. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodation was too restricitive, and it was cruel and inhumane to

put so many animals in a confined space. Then various agencies and authorities told me that I couldn’t build the Ark until they’d conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood. I’m still trying to resolve a complaint with the Equal Opportunities Commission on how many BMEs I’m supposed to hire for my building team. The trades unions say I can’t use my sons. They insist I have to hire only CSCS accredited workers with Ark-building experience. To make matters worse, Customs and Excise seized all my assets, claiming I’m trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species. So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this Ark.” Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow stretched across the sky. Noah looked up in wonder and asked, “You mean you’re not going to destroy the world?” “No,” said the Lord. “The government beat me to it.”

Coping With Stress In 2020 Some fun ways to eliminate stress from your life...! Pop some popcorn without putting the lid on. Make a list of things to do that you have already done. Tape pictures of your boss to watermelons and launch them from high places. Go shopping. Buy everything. Sweat in it. Return it the next day. Pay your electric bill in cents.

Some interesting ‘Stress’ quotes. “There cannot be a stressful crisis next week. My schedule is already full.” Henry Kissinger (Former United States Secretary of State) “If stress burned calories, I’d be a supermodel.” Unknown “By working faithfully 8 hours a day you may eventually get to be boss and work 12 hours a day.” Robert Frost (American Poet)

Drive to work in reverse.

“If each day is a gift, I’d like to know where I can return Mondays.” John Wagner (American Actor)

Interesting Facts... Niger got its independence from France in 1960. Officially called the Republic of Niger, Niger is a landlocked country in Western Africa, named after the Niger River. Niger borders seven countries, Algeria and Libya to the north, Chad to the East, Nigeria and Benin to the south and Burkina Faso and Mali to the west. Niger fell victim to a series of coups and political instability following its independence from France and today the country struggles in the face of frequent droughts, insurgency and wide-spread poverty. The nation is a secular state with the separation of religion and state guaranteed in the constitution. The most dominant religion practiced in Niger is Islam, with about 80% of the populace identifying themselves as Muslims. Niger has mineral deposits including uranium, oil, and gold, among others, these have not improved its economic status. It has had only one public university and less than 50% of the children attend school. Niger is considered one of the hottest nations in the world and is aptly nicknamed the “Frying Pan of the World.

Random Joke A young lad walks into a pharmacists and says “I need a pack of 3 condoms.” The pharmacist replies “You going to need 3?” “I’ve got a meal at my girlfriend’s house tonight,” he replies, “And I think her mum and sister both fancy me, so I’m going to do all three of them, they’re well fit!” “Lucky you” said the pharmacist.

I would like to thank Josh, Mark and Sheila from La Tasca in Torre del Mar for their fantastic service over the last year and wish them a Happy & Prosperous 2020 Tx

That night the lad was sitting at the dinner table with his girlfriend, her mum & sister, when her dad came in to join them. The young lad sinks into his chair and starts to pray for five minutes. His girlfriend says to him “Oh I didn’t know you was religious!” The lad replies, “I didn’t know your dad was the pharmacist!”

Morals Test Are you as moral as you think you are? This test only has one question, but it’s a very important one... By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Only you will know the results, so remember that your answer needs to be honest. THE SITUATION: You are in Florida, Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photo journalist working for a major newspaper and you’re caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You’re trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water.

THE TEST: Suddenly you see a man in the water. He is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer. Somehow the man looks familar. You suddenly realise who it is. It’s Donald Trump! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him under forever. YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS:  You can save the life of Donald Trump or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world’s most powerful Republican men hell bent on the destruction of America. THE QUESTION:  Here’s the question and please give an honest answer: “Would you select high contrast colour film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?”

& t i Fru Facts rries Veg ranbe C

Contrary to popular opinion, cranberries aren’t as effective in curing urinary tract infections as many people believe, but they do still have a number of significant health benefits.

“cold season,” reach for some cranberries — one cup has about 19 percent of your daily recommended intake of vitamin C, which is important for immune health and may also reduce duration of the common cold.

For a start, their high fibre content could help you lose weight. One cup of whole cranberries contains 16 per cent of the recommended daily amount of fibre (about four grams). That fibre will help you stay fuller for longer, and prevent big swings in your blood sugar — which in turn could help prevent overeating. Plus, fibre generally keeps things moving through your digestive tract, which will help prevent bloating (or, worse, constipation).

They are also packed with cancer-fighting antioxidants. They contain polyphenolics and isoprenoids, both of which may contribute to cancer prevention. Preliminary research has shown that cranberry consumption in relation to breast cancer, colon cancer and ovarian cancer may be beneficial.

But remember, you'll only get fibre from the whole berry — not from cranberry juice. Cranberries help promote a healthy digestive system because the fibre they contain is a type of prebiotic, a nutrient that feeds your gut bacteria and helps them thrive. A 2018 review in Current Developments in Nutrition found that prebiotic fibre has significant positive effects on digestive health. They may also help control your blood sugar. Cranberries on their own are one of the lowest-sugar fruits, with only four grams per cup of whole berries. Combine that with the high fibre count and you have a fruit that won't cause a “sugar high”. However cranberry juice and dried cranberries are almost always sweetened, so beware. On top of that, cranberries might actually help control your blood sugar. “Cranberries offer the mineral manganese, which helps control blood sugar levels,” says a 2012 study. It found that one cup of cranberry juice daily helped regulate blood sugar in type 2 diabetic male patients. However, more research is needed to show whether cranberries have the same effect on healthy populations and women. Cranberries might help ward off colds. When you're sick of mainlining oranges during the

Cranberries can help lower your cholesterol, because they are rich in anthocyanins (an antioxidant), which give the berries their colour and have protective cardiovascular effects including lowering cholesterol, according to reputable reports. They also contain the antioxidant proanthocyanins, which have major anti-inflammatory effects and can protect your blood vessels. The health benefits of cranberries even extend to your mouth, since the fruit can help prevent gum disease. This is because certain compounds in cranberries prevent bacteria from sticking to surfaces such as teeth and gums, thus reducing chance of infection. The bottom line is that cranberries have plenty of health benefits — most of which you can get by eating them in their whole, unsweetened form. So.... let's just all cool it on the vodka and cranberry drinks!

New Words Added To the Dictoionary In 2019 A great collection of some new words and their meanings that were added to the dictionary in 2019 On-Brand This adjective describes anything that supports or correlates to your public image or identity. Eg: If posting a slice of pizza on Instagram someone may comment, “That’s so on-brand” Swole If someone has bulging muscles you can say they're "swole." Some people may not look that way now, but they want to get swole. Go-Cup Anything that's packaged to help you sip on the go. It can be plastic or paper, and can contain coffee or alcohol. Detectorist Someone who loves looking for hidden treasures with their metal detector. Savant Syndrome

People with a developmental disorder, like autism, may show "skill or brilliance" in a particular field. If so, they are likely to have what's now referred to as "savant syndrome." Buzzy This word refers to anything everyone can't stop talking about. If it generates attention and gets you talking, it's buzzy. Stan This word is defined as “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan. Screen-Time To describe how much time we spend on electronic devices. Unplug Disconnect (an electrical device) by removing its plug from a socket and to disconnect from Screen-Time. EGOT This acronym combines four awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

De Cotta Law Inheritance, Wills and Taxes – Post Brexit Deal This is an area that will remain unchanged post Brexit. The law that will govern succession and who will receive your assets on death will not change. The application of your law of nationality has been recognised and formalized in the EC regulation signed by Spain in 2015. The UK never signed this regulation but because it regulates the law in Spain it will continue to apply to all nationalities including British people post Brexit. This means you can sign a will in Spain electing your national law. This is particularly important where there is a second family or a divorce and you are estranged from your children. In English law you are free to dispose of your assets as you wish. In Spanish law two thirds of your estate must pass to your children. At present in some regions of Spain, including Andalusia and the Canary Islands, a spouse and children can receive up to one million euros in property and assets without paying any inheritance tax. This is not affected by Brexit because the allowance is currently available to all nationalities in those regions. Equally, if the rules were to change they are likely to change for all nationalities. This is only applicable to spouses and children, though there are some other discounts available to other family members. Protect your assets by making a Spanish formally-valid will. For more information contact us on 952 527 014 or email info@decottalaw.net See main advert on this page

Spanish Wills A will is one of the most common legal needs, but less than 25% of Europeans have one. We are now finishing the year and it could be a good moment to think about making a Spanish will or update the existing one. As you may know, a will is not exclusively about making sure that the right people will inherit without disagreement or problems. It is a formal declaration of intention made by a person in his life-time of his wishes concerning the disposal of his property after his death. We understand the need to preserve and protect your assets and those of your family. If you have purchased or already have a property in Spain, we strongly recommend you making a Spanish will in order to facilitate the distribution of your Spanish assets. We have arranged many wills in Spain for foreign people just like you and we believe that it is a satisfying part of life’s planning and not something which should simply be left to chance. It is a good idea to talk to your family about it so they understand your issues and know what you want. It may help those around you to understand your wishes in distressing circumstances. In Spain, the signing of wills must be made by the testator in the presence of a Public Notary who will keep in his file the original document until the day of death, and will register it in the Spanish Central Registry of wills which is situated in Madrid. If you have already made a will in Spain, please note that your financial and familiar circumstances can change and therefore your

If you have the feeling you’ve experienced an event before in real life, call it déjà vu. If you feel like you’ve previously experienced an event in a dream instead, there’s a different term for it: déjà rêvé. s Now b e l Ce en & erris Th Pam F Much-loved actress Pam Ferris (think Darling buds of May, Where the Heart Is, Laura Thyme in Rosemary & Thyme, and Call the Midwife) was born on May 11, 1948 in Lower Saxony, Germany, because her father, Frederick John Ferris — born in Swindon, Wiltshire — was involved in the ‘denazification process’ and was a member of the RAF. Pam's family emigrated to New Zealand when she was 13, and she performed in her younger years at the Mercury Theatre in Auckland. She moved back to the UK aged 22 after a spell in theatre in Christchurch. She was raised in Wales and New Zealand. When the family moved to Wales, settling in the Aberkenfig area, near Bridgend, her father became a policeman and her mother worked in her family's bakery business. She worked in theatre in New Zealand before returning to England at 22. She decided to pursue an acting career in the UK after seeing Judi Dench in 'London Assurance'. She took a break from her career to nurse her mother, who died in 1983. She supports disabled people and their careers. Among her other notable roles feature in the films Matilda (1996), Children of Men (2006) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). She has been married to Roger Frost since August 1986. She and her husband gave up smoking in 1985. In The Darling Buds of May (1991), there was

a famous scene where Pam shared a bath with David Jason while eating supper. Jason thought about turning up to the set in a frog mask and flippers but couldn't go through with it. Jason and Ferris both wore swimming costumes and the water was coloured up to protect their modesties. Jason considered that scene their icebreaker. On The Darling Buds of May (1991), David Jason once smuggled a cucumber into a bed scene with Ferris. She had to deliver most of the dialogue and even though she knew it was there, she did the scene perfectly. It was only after the cameras stopped rolling that she wanted to know what the corpsing Jason was up to. Ferris is known for being very professional. David Jason had never heard of Ferris before they starred together in The Darling Buds of May (1991). She was nice and easygoing, which was enough to convince Jason she was right for the role. Jason didn't meet Ferris at the readthrough or rehearsals but at lunch. He described Ferris as "down-to-Earth, which I immediately liked about her, and we relaxed in each other's company very quickly". She and her husband lived for many years in Golders Green, North London, before relocating to Eltham, Kent in 2009. She met her husband in 1983 when they were both working at the Royal Court Theatre in London. Her favourite character that she played was Miss Trunchbull in Matilda (1996). She once said: “I was obsessed with work in my youth. It's why I didn't get married until I was 38 and the reason I didn't have kids. Not having children isn't a sadness in my life, though. I know I wouldn't have been a half-bad mother, but that's what happened. There's no regretting it.”

To advertise call 664 210 468 or email sales@thesentinella.com Strictly Corbyn? Little Britain star Matt Lucas thinks there is a future on the dance floor for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn after his general election disaster. The 45-year-old comic actor reacted to the election result by tweeting that Corbyn could be heading for Strictly rather than the House of Commons next year. Matt tweeted: "I guess that’s Corbyn on Strictly next year then." He was quickly met with the reply: "No way — he has two leftie feet!" Another tweeter thought that BBC's Strictly Come Dancing might be too much of a walk in the park for Corbyn and suggested that the jungle would be a more appropriate place for him to pop up. Others felt that Corbyn 'doesn't have the backbone' for a venture Down Under with Ant and Dec, while another commenter replied: "Too big a failure for I’m a Celeb — he’d be better suited to Pointless.” Just to be sure that all angles were covered, others urged that Corbyn should join Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on ITV's Dancing On Ice. Paradise lost Andrew Lloyd-Webber lost more than £6million on two luxury villas in Barbados that were never even completed, it has been revealed. The composer and his wife Madeleine agreed to stump up almost £20million for two luxury villas on the sun-drenched island so the whole Lloyd-Webber clan could holiday together. Bought off-plan, one villa would have had panoramic views of the Caribbean and the other, behind it, would have been set aside for children and nannies. They paid over £8.4million upfront for the luxury properties, but a tribunal has now heard the developers hit trouble during the financial crisis and judge John Brooks said the part-built villas now stand "derelict". Although the Lloyd-Webbers still have rights in them, he said the couple had never recovered any of the money they paid out. But the ruling means that the couple will at least be able to set off their crushing losses against future tax liabilities. While in the jungle, Myles confessed his attraction for the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star and even suggested he would "marry" her. The former X-Factor winner revealed he'd been in touch with jungle co-star Caitlyn about setting up a date with the model. Joking to his Rak-Su bandmates on FaceTime, Myles revealed a trip to LA might just be all that's needed. He said: "Caitlyn was like, 'I can't guarantee anything but when you come to LA, I'll get Kendal round and you can cook dinner and we'll go for some wine.’"

Cursed encounter? Strictly Come Dancing star David James has sparked fears that the infamous ‘Strictly curse’ has struck again as he was seen cuddling and kissing his dance partner, Nadiya Bychkova. The former England footballer is in a relationship and the dancer is engaged to Slovenian footballer Matija Skarabot, with whom she shares a one-year-old daughter. But the pair were caught locked in what appeared to be a rather passionate embrace in the background of an Instagram video shared by show pro Aljaz Skorjanec. The video showed Aljaz chatting to Mike Bushell, and standing behind them, Nadiya was seen leaning back against David's chest as he wrapped his arms around her. She held onto his arms and appeared to close her eyes as David planted a kiss on top of her head. They are seemingly completely unaware that they’ve been caught on camera.

Changing With The Weather This month I have noticed a rising amount of cases of Achilles tendonitis/tendonopathy and plantar fasciitis. I believe this is because with the change of weather comes a change of shoe and something so minor can affect our body in different ways.

Also, when we switch shoe wear, it can affect the arches in our feet which can lead to plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia).

Achilles tendinitis is an overuse injury of the Achilles tendon, the band of tissue that connects calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to your heel bone. By changing shoe wear we can cause our calf muscles to tighten and put a strain on the achilles tendon.

Plantar fasciitis commonly causes stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps in the morning. As you get up and move, the pain normally decreases, but it might return after long periods of standing or when you stand up after sitting. Obviously with the cold weather we have to wear more closed in shoes and boots but just make sure they do not aggravate your lower limbs. If, however, you are already affected then Massage therapy will relieve the symptoms. By Amanda Edge, BscHonsRSA See main advert below

The Right Time To Sell With the New Year now upon us, it may be that you own a house in Spain and are considering selling. If you are, now is the time to get serious about your plans. With so many properties on the market at any one time, making your property visible to the maximum audience means you are best to start advertising early in the year. The property market is particularly seasonal. Over Christmas, as people across Europe have a break, and the weather is cold, they tend to start browsing online and checking out the possibility of finding a property in warmer climes. Most are looking for a second home, but some are considering retirement or setting up a business in places such as Andalusia. By January, many have a clear idea of what they want to do and the enquiries start coming in. So the all-important Spring selling season often starts as early as January. This then builds as the Spring heads towards us and becomes very busy around

March and April, dying back in June, as serious house hunters prefer to avoid the hot summer months. After the Summer, there is again a surge, as clients head over to us once again for Autumn. Many of the Autumn clients are carrying out research trips, to look at areas, and view a few properties to get a feel for what is on offer at different budgets. Then they head back to their countries, mull over the information, maturing their ideas, and book a fresh trip-this time with the intention of actually making a purchase, in the Springtime. So if you are considering selling up in 2020, don’t leave it too late, and don’t miss that all important first half of the year. Don’t forget to pop into our office if you wish to discuss your particular case. A Happy New Year to all our Vendors and Clients! By Toni Waterman, Unspoilt Andalusia (see advertisement below)

Tommy Cooper One Liners One liners from the King of Comedy - Mr Tommy Cooper I’m so lazy I’ve a smoke alarm with a snooze button. I bought some Armageddon cheese today, and it said on the packet, ‘Best Before End’. So I went to buy a watch, and the man in the shop said, “Analogue.” I said, “No, just a watch.” I went into a shop and I said, “Can someone sell me a kettle.” The bloke said, “Kenwood”. I said, “I don’t care what star sign it is.” My mate is in love with two schoolbags. He’s bisatchel.

So I met the bloke who invented crosswords today. I can’t remember his name, it’s P something T something R. I was reading this book today, The History Of Glue. I couldn’t put it down. I phoned the local ramblers club today, and this bloke just went on and on. My mate asked me, “What do you think of voluntary work??” I said, “I wouldn’t do it if you paid me.” I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn’t find any. I went to the butchers the other day and I bet him 50€ that he couldn’t reach the meat off the top shelf. “No, you’re too right” he said. “The steaks are too high.” I went to a really energetic “Seafood Disco” last week.... and pulled a mussel.

Drives Me Crazy Anyone who has spent time here will know that rules and the road are rarely seen together. Driving in Spain can be a pleasure but it can be a right royal pain too. Here’s a few interpretations of the Spanish rules of the road to help you to drive like a local. Rule 1. Never trust a roundabout Forget everything that you have learned about roundabout rules. Here in Spain, roundabouts are the equivalent of an Indian stampede against General Custer. With you firmly trapped somewhere in the middle, Spanish drivers will circle at high speed. Lane restrictions are non existent and when they decide to exit, they will, irrespective of your position on the roundabout. Indicators are mere fashion accessories, winking at unsuspecting cars and tempting them into oncoming traffic. Roundabouts are not for the faint hearted. In Spain, they are more than a device to help traffic to flow. They are a place to park, to mingle and possibly why many roundabout centres are very decorative such as the illuminated boat in Caleta or the statue of a boy reaching for the moon in Torre. They’re places of interest in their own right. Rule 2. Think of motorbikes and scooters as horses The horse has been replaced in Spain by the humble motorbike or scooter often belching out thick black smoke as opposed to horse poo. After all, there are times when our area does resemble the Wild West and the motorbike rider is the epitome of a cowboy. Headwear is seemingly not obligatory and a helmet isn’t necessarily the headwear of choice. On my travels, I’ve seen various r iding hats including a rather stunning purple velvet one. However, I soon came to realise that a riding hat was better than no helmet at all. Everything is transported by motorbike or scooter. The weekly shopping is carefully balanced like saddle bags at the side of a bike. The dog is often between the feet. I’ve seen whole crates of avocados and mangoes precariously wedged onto the back of the

bike. My favourite was the man who’d decided to transport his clothes airer, strapped side on like wings and was weaving through traffic like a maniac. Rule 3. The sanest place to drive is the motorway Once you’ve negotiated every hazard from goats in the road to trucks overladen, the Spanish motorway comes as some surprise. It’s devoid of heavy traffic. ou can travel for miles without ever seeing another human being. The motorways are well maintained. Even the toll roads are being abolished. It makes any long journey rather pleasurable and straightforward. There’s no comparison between rush hour traffic in Madrid and the road rage inducing London. It’s busy but generally moving. Roadworks are not coned off for several miles before the work in progress. In fact, roadworks rarely get in the way of your journey. The only exception to this rule is the combination of the A7, Miraflores shopping centre, Fuengirola and the rain when it seems everyone wants to get under the cover of a large, expensive shopping mall. There’s one easy solution to this problem: don’t go and shop local. Use The Sentinella to guide you through the best shopping in our area. Safe travels and wishing you all a Happy New Year! A Taste Of Mexico Mexican cuisine can be traced back several thousand years. Over the different regions, beef, pork and chicken, plus seafood, are extremely popular and some of the same dishes are often found throughout Mexico. Mexican foods offer ingredients of beans and corn, plus chilli peppers. These are regularly presented with meats, rice and spice. Red snapper, sea bass and prawns are very popular, too.

Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross, London, is a redeveloped retail area. During the 19th Century this site was London’s coal store and has a very interesting history. www.coaldropsyard.com Today, this area provides popular shopping and dining experiences, that include independent shops, businesses, bars and restaurants. Casa Pastor and Plaza Pastor offer a warm welcome from Alejo and authentic Mexican dining, with dishes that include Tuna Tostadas, plus Tacos filled with marinated pork shoulder or fish, for example and their hugely-popular Ceviches. Starters include various Botanas, then on to Tostadas, that have Cochinita, Chicken Tinga and Tuna presentations. Very flavoursome Tortas (Mexican toasted sandwiches) are available, also. For Tacos the key is the salsa. Made fresh, in-house, these have Morita (Chipotle, tomatillos), Verde Fresca (Serrano chillies, tomatillos, coriander), plus Mexicana and Maya choices and more, through to El Diablo, which is made with some

of the very hottest chillies known. Tacos offer Baja Fish (Corona-battered sea bass, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, coriander) and Choripapa (Chorizo, potato, salsa verde, coriander), which are very popular, amongst an excellent array, with mushroom, prawn and chicken inclusions, plus Al Pastor (Mexico City favourite and inspiration for this restaurant’s name). From the Mexican-style rotisserie, half and whole

chickens are often selected, with different marinades and accompaniments. Exceptional, complementing flavours and splendid presentation definitely warrant ‘Compliments to Chef!’ If sharing plates are favoured, then Hake, Short Rib, Steak and more, will most certainly impress and satisfy. Dessert selections include creations of Fresh Pineapple, Corn Cake and Queso Fresco Cheesecake. Desserts pair wonderfully with cocktails and digestivos, too. Thank you to Lily and Maureen, for excellent service throughout. Popular with locals (always a good sign), a recommended restaurant to return to. Everyone at La vaqueria would like to wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2020. The New Year always brings about thoughts of resolutions and changes of habits etc so if this year you are going down the health and fitness route might I take this opportunity to recommend a pilates or yoga class? Or maybe a chi gong class to get those Christmassy bodies back into shape. These classes are also training our minds in wellbeing which is a great skill to learn as we set out in the New Year. Making new plans and setting goals to achieve help some people to look forward to the year ahead and La vaqueria thrives on just that. We have new menus planned, have many new artists looking forward to playing live at our vaqueria Sunday Lunch Buffets and as always are continuously extending and "arting up" our dear little oasis! If one of your resolutions is to get out and about a bit more or try out new places or enjoy a unique visit then La vaqueria is the place for you!! Whether it’s for lunch, all day breakfast, a snack or some tea and home made cake, we are looking forward to welcoming you. We are open again from Tuesday 7th January. See you soon, La vaqueria Team

) : a h a Jokes h Important question: Will my continental quilt still work after we leave the EU? ------------------------------------------------------------After waiting more than an hour and a half for her date, the young lady decided she'd been stood up. Exasperated, she changed from her dinner dress into pjamas and slippers, fixed some popcorn and resigned herself to an evening of TV. No sooner had she flopped down in front of the TV than her doorbell rang. There stood her date. He took one look at her and said "I'm two hours late, and you're still not ready?" ------------------------------------------------------------I sheepishly asked my new girlfriend, "So, how do you feel about sex?" Giggling and blushing, she whispered, "I like it infrequently." Puzzled, I asked, "I see. Is that one word or two?" ------------------------------------------------------------Martha had terrible acne and had very little luck getting dates. She was so glad when Bill started taking an interest in her. She didn’t mind at all that Bill had a fake wooden eye that looked off in odd directions when he spoke. She was just happy to have a man finally take an interest in her despite her terrible acne problem. For his part, Bill was very sensitive about his eye which he knew looked bizarre but he couldn’t afford to get an expensive glass eye. The others made fun of him calling him “wood eye” and such. He thought Martha was nice and she didn’t seem to mind his eye and never made fun of him like the others. So he decided to ask her out on a date. “Martha, would you like to go out on a date to the movies with me?” Bill asked.

“Oh. would I, would I??!! she exclaimed. Shocked by her making fun of his eye, Bill screamed “F*** you pizza face!” and stormed off. ------------------------------------------------------------My sexy Chinese neighbour told me she was desperate for a roger! So ugly people would have a chance to have sex. ------------------------------------------------------------Crime in multi-storey car parks. That is wrong on so many different levels. ------------------------------------------------------------When I was younger I felt like a man trapped inside a woman’s body. Then I was born. ------------------------------------------------------------I was very naive sexually. My first boyfriend asked me to do missionary and I buggered off to Africa for six months. ------------------------------------------------------------After a long night of making love to his new girlfriend, Fred notices a photo of a man on her bedside table. At first, he really didn't give it much thought; she had never mentioned it so why should he. But after a month or so into the relationship he begins to stress about it; even imagining the photo is staring at him doing the deed. It was causing him so much anxiety that he finally decides to ask about it. "Is this your ex-husband?" he nervously asks. "No, silly," she replies, snuggling up to him. "Another boyfriend, then?" he continues. "No, not at all," she says, nibbling away at his ear. "Is it your dad or your brother?" he inquires, hoping to be reassured. "No, no, no!!!" she answers. "Well, who in the hell is he, then?" he demands. "That's me 6 months ago."

Jokes h a ha :) Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, my dog is dead. Could ya' be saying' a mass for the poor creature?" Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there's no tellin' what they believe. Maybe they'll do something for the creature." Muldoon said, "I'll go right away Father. Do ya 'think â‚Ź5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?" Father Patrick exclaimed, "Sweet Mary, Mother of Jesus! Why didn't ya tell me the dog was Catholic?" ------------------------------------------------------------A beautiful woman went to the gynecologist. The doctor took one look at the woman and all his professionalism flew out the window. He immediately told her to get undressed. After she disrobed the doctor began to stroke her thigh. While doing so he asked her, "Do you know what I am doing?" "Yes," she replied, "You are checking for abrasions or dermatological abnormalities." "That's right," said the doctor. He then began to fondle her breasts. "Do you know what I am doing now?" he asked. "Yes," she said, "You are checking for lumps which might indicate breast cancer." "Correct," replied the shady doctor. Finally, he mounted his patient and started having sexual intercourse with her. He asked, "Do you know what I am doing now?" "Yes," she said, "You're getting herpes, which is why I came here in the first place." ------------------------------------------------------------A traffic cop pulled up alongside a speeding car on the freeway. As the officer peered through the driver's window, he was astounded to find that the blonde behind the

wheel was knitting. The officer cranked down his window and yelled to the driver, "Pull over!" at the top of his lungs. "No!" the blonde yelled back, "Scarf!" ------------------------------------------------------------It was the day of the big sale. Rumours of the sale and some advertising in the local paper were the main reason for the long line that formed by 8:30 in the morning in front of the store. A small man pushed his way to the front of the line, only to be pushed back, amid loud and colourful curses. On the man's second attempt, he was punched square in the jaw, and knocked around a bit, and then thrown to the end of the line again. As he got up the second time, he said to the person at the end of the line, "That does it! If they hit me one more time, I don't open the damn store!" ------------------------------------------------------------A preacher goes into a bar and says "Anybody who wants to go to heaven, stand up." Everybody stands up except for a drunk in the corner. The preacher says "My son, don't you want to go to heaven when you die?" The drunk says "When I die? Sure. I thought you were taking a load up now." ------------------------------------------------------------Two Irish football team managers promised their players a 1 pint of Guinness for every goal they scored during an important match. The final score was 119-98 ------------------------------------------------------------The new employee stood before the paper shredder looking confused. "Need some help?" a secretary, walking by, asked. "Yes," he replied, "How does this thing work?" "Simple," she said, taking the fat report from his hand and feeding it into the shredder. "Thanks, but where do the copies come out?"

s e p o c s o Hor by Juanita Banana of www.AbsoluteAxarquia.com ARIES: March 21-April 20 As 2016 begins, you may feel harassed by chaos and conflict. Tackle this by maintaining equilibrium as best you can, particularly with others and most especially within relationships. Wade through this difficult period and you will relish the new level of harmony that´s created. TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Some areas that were of previous importance to you are no longer, making the new year an excellent time to consider new life plans and goals. A good time too for study, research and for cultivating new ideals, leading to new projects GEMINI: May 22-June 21 New avenues are about to open for Geminis. Have patience and be careful not to allow uncertainty to lead you away from them. They will positively affect your relationships, your work, your creativity, home, children, and even your pets. As this new cycle begins your vision will be redefined and redirected CANCER: June 22-July 22 You will initiate partnerships, allies and groups in order to create a change of environment in your life. To achieve your goals, you must be willing to work in partnership, rather than sole leader, most successfully with Arians, Librans, and Capricorns LEO: July 23-August 23 You become pragmatic, more organised and more efficient. Everything at work is serious business, almost to the point of too much responsibility, creating inward tension. Be especially careful of yourself and children and find time for laughter and play VIRGO: August 24-September 22 Virgoans need to be conservative with time during January and limit yourself to what is safe, necessary and dutiful. Pleasure is unfortunately limited but can be achieved

through creative art or cultivation LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 With the help of family love, you are creating solid foundations as tradition and inheritances become more important to you. Couple this with your ability to envisage possibilities with clarity, you can shape great success within your world SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 Your future depends on how to apply your current knowledge while accumulating and fostering further knowledge by means of practical education. If difficult responsibilities have inhibited learning in the past, now is the time to let go and fly SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 Care and caution with resources, particularly financial, should be maintained by Sagittarians at this time. Plan how best to utilise and organise your time and resources and your life will be more fulfilled now and in the future CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 To climb the mountains you encounter during January, you need self-control and discipline throughout all levels of your life. Be patient and your steadfastness will lead to a series of satisfying achievements AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 A glitch in life occurs for Aquarians in January and is symptomatic of the rest you currently require. If you're feeling stressed, fatigued or low on self-esteem, try swimming or other exercise, writing, and seek the company of friends who will listen PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Your hopes, wishes and dreams may need grounding to be practical. Be careful too of setting intangible goals within groups and organisations and encourage other members to contribute
