Today, where I am in the world (Idaho, USA), it’s snowing, would you Adam and Eve! It’s the end of June, I’m writing this editorial only days before the July issue goes to print, and I’m shocked at the unwelcome sight of little white snowflakes drifting down from the sky! Just hours before this sudden appearance of a bad case of ‘Universal Dandruff,’ it was 80 degrees outside, and the temperature has suddenly plummeted to freezing… weird! It has made me realise that Idaho weather is not for me. I tolerated cold weather for long enough in the UK, and then relished the warmth of Spain for 9 years, so a move is definitely on the cards. We have a few options of where to move to next, but let’s just say it’ll be a place where there’s warm weather all year round – Halleluiah! Tomorrow, here in Idaho it’s forecast to return to temperatures of 80 degrees, so I’m feeling all discombobulated and confused, unsure whether to don my summer clothes or my winter clobber! I’d previously planned to be back in España by now, however life events keep preventing me from booking the flight, so it’s now in my calendar for September and October. In July I have a seminar to attend, which is very exciting, and part of the training for the new business that I’m setting up. I’m still staying true to The Sentinella too, though :)

There are still people who claim the economy is bad and that there is a ‘crisis’ going on. Personally, that word has been eliminated from my vocabulary (apart from this article as I need it to illustrate the point)! It’s just so negative and doom-laden, and if we remember that we hold true in our minds becomes our reality, then that’s a big enough reason to avoid using the word, or buying into the belief system that so many people currently hold. Everything we allow to enter into our thoughts becomes manifest in our world, and it’s entirely our responsibility and no one else’s. I’ll leave you to think about that…while you lie in the sun, no doubt! PS. Strange News Botched Surgery - A man who claims he lost an inch off his penis because his injury was misdiagnosed is suing a hospital for £90,000 for causing negligence and “indescribable anguish”. He said he first injured his penis while having sex with his wife in July 2011 and was rushed to hospital where a nurse “made a brief visual inspection of the penis without touching it.” A urologist who was not present at the hospital advised over the phone that the man had suffered a “minor trauma” and he was sent home without undergoing a physical examination, according to the lawsuit. But the man, who is paraplegic, claims he was left unable to have sex and three months later was informed that he had actually suffered a fractured penis and would require surgery. He says the procedure caused him to lose an inch from the length of his penis and left a permanent scar. The man, who comes from Quebec in Canada, also alleges the operation at Le Gardeur hospital in Montreal caused the breakdown of his marriage as he was unable to have sex for two years. He said: “This has caused a greater impact on my life than when I lost the use of my legs." Saturday Fright Fever - Miriam Burbank was always the life and soul of the party – and her family made sure she still was as loved-ones said their final farewells by giving the 53-yearold a disco-themed funeral. Following her death on June 1, Miriam's two daughters asked the funeral director if it would be possible to display their mum's body surrounded by the things she loved – beer, whisky, cigarettes and a disco. And to honour Miriam’s love of her hometown American football team, the New Orleans Saints, her fingernails were painted black and gold – the colour of the Saints' kit. Miriam's daughters insisted that other family members liked the idea and thought it was a very fitting goodbye. Zymora Kimball said of her mum, who friends called Mae-Mae: "She gets down, 53. She’s not a normal 53. I didn’t want her to just go. So I had to do something amazing. So she’s never forgotten.”

How Old Is Grandma? Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away. One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother about current events. The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general. The Grandmother replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before: Television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, contact lenses, frisbees and the pill. There were no: Credit cards, laser beams or ball-point pens. Man had not yet invented: Pantyhose, air conditioners, dishwashers, clothes dryers and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and man hadn't yet walked on the moon. Your Grandfather and I got married first, and then lived together. Every family had a father and a mother. Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir." And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir." We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy. Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense. We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions. Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege. Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins. Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends -not purchasing condominiums. We never heard of FM radios, tape decks,

CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt or guys wearing earrings. We listened to Big Bands on our radios. And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey. If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk. The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam. Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of. We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents. Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all 5 cents And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your 5 cents on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards. You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, but who could afford one? Too bad, because petrol was 4 cents a litre In my day:

"Grass" was mowed, "Coke" was a cold drink, "Pot" was something your mother cooked in and "Rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby. "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office, "Chip" meant a piece of wood, "Hardware" was found in a hardware store and "Software" wasn't even a word. And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap.

How old do you think I am? I bet you have this old lady in mind. You are in for a shock! This woman would be only 61 years old, born in 1952.. The young ones wouldn't believe it.

De Cotta Law Pre–nuptial contracts - Separation of assets – Community of property – I recently wrote about the growing recognition of pre-nuptial contracts in the English and UK courts, particularly after a Supreme Court decision in the widely reported case of a French/German couple who chose to divorce in London. However in the Spanish jurisdiction and in many other Civil Code countries a couple can make a legally binding decision to hold their assets separately either before or during their marriage. If you do not make a positive declaration of this intention in Spain then the default or standard regime between a couple will be community of property – gananciales. Some regions such as Catalunya do have separation of assets as the standard regime. There is a common misconception that the standard regime in England is separation of assets but on divorce and after a long marriage the English divorce courts will look to grant a 50/50 split of capital and income once any children of the marriage have been provided for. Should you be considering marrying and want to have certainty about what may happen to your property and assets in the future you can sign a Deed before a notary agreeing that you will each hold your assets separately in future. A Spanish notary is familiar with this declaration and you can ask that an Inventory be attached if you wish though it will apply to subsequent assets as well unless you agree otherwise in a subsequent deed. Where a couple who are not Spanish want to make this declaration the notary might require a Certificate of law stating that under the law of the nationality of the couple it is possible to make this declaration. A certificate of law is not necessary if the couple do not share a nationality and are marrying in Spain with the aim of settling here. The declaration of separation of assets is binding if there is a future disagreement over property or on separation and di-

vorce. Some commentators say that a couple should not be thinking of the end of a relationship at the beginning! However the other view is that anything which brings certainty if the relationship does break down should be considered where appropriate. Paco - A Tribute From Away By Saffron Flynn Back in the 80s and 90s, my husband and I spent a good deal of time in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Then a small fishing village, today like so many others along the Costa Maya, it has morphed into a mini-upscale Cancun. When we do go now ─ which isn’t that often since Spain has become our second home ─ our mantra is always the same: “Remember when… the streets were dirt, you cooked freshly-caught fish on an open beach fire, you bought tacos from Flaco Taco’s rickety street cart?” Time has a way of changing all things. But the one thing it cannot alter is memories. “And thank God for that,” I’ve been thinking lately. In those days, on a side street just across from the park, the restaurant Mascaras packed them in every night. The margueritas were acknowledged as the best in town; served au naturel and lethal as hell in those thick stubby glasses with thumb prints. Man, those things could really sneak up on you. But I digress. We spent many a holiday in Playa. One in particular stands out as if it were only yesterday. It was quite cold for early January. Happily, I had packed my thick woollen shawl. Everyone agreed Mascaras was the place to go on New Year’s Eve. Dinner, musical entertainment (Andean group or maybe a Mariachi band) for 40 pesos; you couldn’t beat it. So we booked our table, took a longer than usual siesta, and arrived at Mascaras at about nine. We hoped the young maître d’ wouldn’t notice our disappointment as we followed him to a table tucked too far back in the corner. As late reservations, we couldn’t be fussy. The meal was great; the camaraderie cheery as always. A group of Brits at the next table spotted us alone and invited us to join them. Happy to be out of our cramped little corner, we happily accepted; our waiter “no problemo” jammed two more chairs into their circle and moved our settings without fuss. Just behind us, an Andean group, pan flutes trilling, added a mystical touch to the atmosphere. Halfway through the meal I happened to look up and noticed a tall fellow speaking to the maître d’ in the doorway. He had a long ponytail and carried a guitar case. The look on the maître d’s face was somewhat enigmatic. Was he happy, confused, surprised....what? Other patrons had also taken notice, and by now the room vibrated with the anticipatory buzz of a hundred agitated bees. “Santa Madre!” The male half of a couple next to us whispered like a prayer. “Eso es Paco!” Indeed, the man at the door was Paco de Lucia who, since it was New Year’s Eve, had wandered in unannounced to play for the patrons of Mascaras. Slowly, with the purpose of an avenging angel, he strode towards a small kind of shelf with chair used by guitarists hired to attract customers during the week. Carefully, reverently, he extracted from his case a rather beat-up looking instrument. After noodling a few short riffs, he

began to play. By this time the patrons to a person had stopped eating, dumbfounded as people are when receiving a gift beyond expectation. This one had floated down from somewhere up the beach like a piece of extraordinary driftwood. Paco de Lucia played for about an hour. No one spoke; no one dared. At about 11 or so he thanked us for a gracious reception, stood up and left. He probably wanted to make it home by 12 to ring in the New Year with his beloved family ─ the same family with whom he was sharing a day at the beach this March when he suffering a heart attack and died. I was lucky enough to see Paco de Lucia another time at the McCarter Theatre at Princeton University. At a gallery in Jerez a few years back I spoke to a photographer who had shot Paco in action. Large posters of The Master graced the walls. One directly behind us looked down upon our conversation as we spoke. The image on the wall seemed larger than life, but never larger than the man himself on that miraculous impromptu New Year’s Eve in Playa. I own every CD Paco de Lucia ever recorded. Every day I play them for at least an hour to remind myself how lucky I am to have shared the presence of greatness. Gracias, Paco. We will never forget you and your music lives on.

The surviving male is now beginning to lose his pigment. The cause of the death of the dead puppy, and the reason for its odd colouring, are now being investigated by local vet Daniel Valverde. "There are no other recorded cases of this happening in Spanish scientific literature," he said after contacting Madrid's Complutense University. Valverde is now carrying out virological and bacteriological tests to try and find an answer. Examples of green puppies have been reported before. In 2012, the Daily Mail reported a Labrador pup born with a green hue who was named 'The Hulk'. His owners said research suggested it was the result of exposure to a substance called biliverdin, which can be found in the placenta.

World’s Biggest Haggis A Scottish food firm has unveiled the world's biggest haggis - and it weighs about as much as a small car. Haggis makers Hall's revealed the giant haggis, which weighs about a ton, at the Royal Highland Show. It's being sold off in individual portions, with proceeds being donated to Macmillan Cancer Care and other children's charities. Hundreds of pounds of pork offal, oatmeal and onions went into the colossal creation which measured more than a metre wide and high and had to be transported to the Ingliston showground near Edinburgh on a truck. Staff at Hall's in North Berwick worked to double the previous record, set in 2009, and take their haggis into the Guinness Book of World Records. Wayne Godfrey, chief executive of Browns Food Group, which owns Hall's, said: "2014 is

the official year of the haggis and so we thought this was the perfect occasion to reclaim the Guinness World Record title that was first held by Hall's over 30 years ago. "We knew we were aiming for a very ambitious size and weight and so everyone at Hall's is thrilled we pulled it off, reclaiming the title - and beating the previous record by such a significant amount." Hall's said the 2,227lb haggis' claim to be the world's largest has been officially verified by Guinness World Records. The previous record stood at 1,234lb. Scottish food and environment secretary Richard Lochhead said: "Haggis is Scotland's iconic national dish and is enjoyed by people from all over the world. "It is the perfect way to celebrate one of our nation's proudest culinary traditions whilst raising money for a good cause."

Sorry men, when it comes to one night stands size DOES matter - but not how you expect When it comes to one night stands size does matter, according to a new study - but it's not what you expect. Women prefer men with a wider manhood for a casual fling the research from UCLA in Los Angeles found, while the preferred length stayed the same. But it's not all bad news for those lacking in the manhood department, because girls are more likely to prefer something thinner when they're choosing a long-term partner. The results were determined by 41 women who were asked to examine various penis models and choose their favourite. For the experiment, 33 different sized phalluses were made on a 3D printer and the women were asked to choose which one took their fancy.

They ranged in length and girth with the smallest one measuring just four inches with a circumference of two and half inches. On the other end of the scale was an eight and half inch figure, which was seven inches in circumference. When it came to one night fumbles, the models with the biggest girths were chosen. Length pretty much stayed the same, with the women preferring a six and half inch penis on average for one night stands and relationships. Researchers said: "They preferred larger-girth (but not longer-length) models for one-time partners than for longer-term partners. "Women's sexual selection may help explain why human penises are unusually thick compared to other primates." The findings were revealed at a meeting of the Association for Psychological Science. A second study also found that women tended to overestimate the size of the organs in front of them.

Helping Axarquia News The Spanish tax administration agency (aeat) has initiated 27,696 tax inspections of foreign pensioners residing in Spain, as well as returning Spanish pensioners who have failed to declare their foreign pensions. However, during a Parliamentary control session with the government, the Minister of Finance, Cristobal Montoro, claimed that the pensioners are: “not being treated as if they were fraudsters” and: “each particular case” is being studied to avoid unnecessary losses of their assets. According to Montoro, the percentage of inspections affecting this group of people is actually small if compared to the total actions that were initiated last year by the Tax Administration Agency. Additionally, he has said that each case is being individually inspected, so that the personal and family circumstances of each citizen are taken into account -- for example, their age, dependent descendants or any type of disability. The third route of the Axarquia La Ruta del Sol y del Vino takes us in search of Sun and Wine, a tourist attraction to be sure! The hills of the Axarquia are laden with vines defying gravity which produce both the Malaga raisins as well as the sweet wine the region has been famous for since Roman times. Strong and sweet, it tastes a bit like sherry. The 55 kilometre Ruta del Sol y del Vino takes us through Algarrobo, Sayalonga, Cómpeta, Canillas de Albaida, Torrox, Nerja and Frigiliana. We start our tour by driving along the N-340 to Algarrobo Costa and then turning 4ms inland to the Pueblo itself. Here the streets are narrow and winding, so it is best to park the car and walk. Be aware that if you arrive there at 2pm when all the inhabitants drive home to lunch, you have to squeeze into doorways to let them pass with their wheels screeching on the hot tarmac! 5kms further up the road at an altitude of 355 metres Sayalonga boasts a unique circular cemetery and a pretty square which you can see from the road with bars and restaurants tempting you to stop for refreshment, a good idea as it is a further 9kms to Cómpeta where the winding road takes you past an unusual structure reminiscent of Gaudi and on arriving in the village there is a Gaudi like lookout point decorated with glazed mosaic tiles. Whilst in Cómpeta a trip to the wine museum which is also a bar and restaurant is a must! As is the central Plaza Almijara, next to the gold domed Church of Asunción where you can while away an hour or so in the shops, street cafes and tapas bars. The village is famous for its honey, pottery and vino de terreno. Every year on August 15th the town celebrates this sweet wine in La Noche del

Vino where 1500 litres are consumed by merry townsfolk and tourists alike. Back on the road the route continues to the next village of Canillas de Albaida just 3kms away on the slopes of the Sierra de Tejeda and Almijara mountains on the borders of Malaga and Granada. This is an area protected by the Andalusian government and if you are lucky you can spot eagles, wild boar and mountain goats amongst the Pine and Oak trees. In the main square you can find the 16th century parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Expectación and before you leave do visit the Arab stone bridge that joins the Cájules and Turvilla rivers. To continue our route we have to go back on the road to Cómpeta and then a further 15kms down to Torrox, the second village with both a Pueblo and Coastal resort. If you want to stretch your legs after the drive down from Cómpeta then take the paseo de maritime from El Faro in a westerly direction and maybe even dive into the waves to refresh yourself before drying off and following the N-340 east to Nerja. Just before finishing our tour in this picturesque seaside town we head inland for 6kms to sample the delights of Frigiliana, one of the prettiest of the Pueblos Blancos and as such the winner of many national and regional awards for conservation and beauty. Here you can find many tiny shops selling local handicrafts including linen, lace, fine basket ware and ceramics. The village has two distinct centres, one of medieval and Moorish origin and the other a recent construction in keeping with its historic architecture. Finally, the last stop on our route of Sun and Wine takes us back to the town of Nerja with its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets, reminiscent of the Lanes in Brighton or The Shambles in York. Here you can shop ´til you drop but don´t forget to visit the Balcón de Europa, the famous Burriana Beach and the Nerja Caves which are actually situated in Maro the small village 3kms to the east of Nerja.

Why Gratitude is Great By Kathie Holmes So many people turn to alcohol and drugs as the “fix it” for any situation they cannot deal with. Sadly, neither of these things actually fixes anything. They mask a problem. They offer a temporary from pain and suffering but they do not fix it. Gratitude on the other hand, fixes everything. It allows you to be grateful for things you normally overlook and the minute you start focusing on the good things in your world, the bad things start to appear smaller and your focus moves away from them. Gratitude is great. It is like a legal drug that you can take in enormous amounts and never overdose from. It is the universe’s cure for all. It can heal hearts and minds. It can change communities. It can unite complete strangers. Gratitude really should be your go-to pick me up. Focusing on gratitude means you are no longer focusing on the purely physical in your world but you start to focus on the small, everyday things we take for granted. Once you start to do that you begin to shift your vibration from one of negativity to one of thankfulness and positivity. The more you continue on that path, the higher your good vibration becomes. 2 ripe avocadoes 1 tbsp mayonnaise 2 tbsp crème fraiche 1 tsp honey 1 tsp Dijon mustard 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 100g/4oz streaky bacon, finely chopped 1 eating apple, cored and diced 2x 85g/3oz packs watercress 1 red pepper, de-seeded and sliced Method: 1. Cut the avocado in half and remove the stone. Mix together the mayonnaise, crème fraiche, honey, mustard and balsamic vinegar. Place the bacon and apple in a frying pan and fry until the bacon is brown and crispy, about 5 minutes. 2. Chop a little of the watercress and add to the pan. Make a salad with the remaining watercress and red pepper. Divide between four plates and place an avocado on top of each salad, spoon the mayonnaise sauce over the avocado and sprinkle with the bacon mixture. tip: to prevent the avocado from browning, brush with lemon juice.

Clownfish protect themselves from the poisonous tentacles of the anemones with a layer of mucus which is present on their bodies. They lay only during the full moon and they hatch only after dusk. The male clownfish guards the eggs. Clownfish are poor swimmers.

All clownfish are born males. But when a female dies, the most dominant clownfish changes itself into a female!

Clownfish have several colours. They can be orange and white, blue and white, black and white and yellow and white.

One species of the clownfish, called the percula clownfish, dances when it comes into contact with the anemones for the first time. Clownfish live in small groups among sea anemones. Anemones are flesh-eating animals that look like plants. The relationship between the clownfish and sea anemone is symbiotic. Clownfish benefit the anemones by eating their leftovers and dead tentacles, and also circulate the water around them. In return, the anemones protect the clownfish with their venomous tentacles from attack by other fish. Clownfish can lay around 1000 eggs at one time, and unlike other fish, out of these, all the eggs can survive. Clownfish get their name because of their stripes and their bouncing movements, which make them look like clowns.

The favourite habitat of clownfish is on coral reefs. They only grow to between three and five inches long.

That promise is lived up to in their second film – Big Bad Wolves – which is a delicate balance of horror and black comedy.
