Whether you have just arrived here on holiday or are a permanent fixture in the lovely Axarquia area, you have chosen the best month and the best area, as it’s this month that offers everyone the most fun each year. If you are in Torre del Mar, you have definitely picked the “in place” to be — but don’t expect to be able to park your car for at least the next two months. The Town Hall still hasn’t sussed that there is a huge issue with parking, so what do we do? Well, we either walk in — if we can — or avoid it like the plague. This would be a terrible shame as so much goes on in Torre. Maybe you could consider parking just outside the town and look at purchasing or hiring a scooter or electric bike? That sounds a bit extreme I know, but if it’s a case of either that or missing out on all the fun, it might be worth considering. The first huge event when little old Torre del Mar gets flooded with more than 140,000 party-goers is the Weekend Beach Festival, held between 3rd and 6th of July. This year, it’s certainly not to be missed for any Will-I-am fans as he will be there along with his group, ‘The Black Eyed Peas,’ on Saturday 6th. Tickets can be purchased via www.weekendbeach.es or on the gate.

Then on 12th to 14th July, the Torre del Mar air show is on. This is a spectacular aeronautical event for the whole family and draws more than 300,000 spectators from all over the world. Even better is that it’s FREE! It happens along the beach front and features some of the best aerobatic pilots in the world.

Strange News In the past two years there have been two events — a daytime and evening show — but if it’s your first time and you can’t decide which to watch, I recommend the daytime one. And don’t forget your camera! Any holidaymakers reading this will be wishing they were staying for the whole month, as next up on 23rd to 28th July sees the Torre del Mar Feria, which celebrates Santiago and Santa Ana. The word feria only means one thing here in Spain — partying until the early hours of the morning! The feria is held in the same location as the Weekend Beach Festival — at the far end of Torre — on the much-needed parking area which will be filled with fairground rides, loads of stalls and hundreds of women, girls and babies dressed in beautiful flamenco outfits. All this and blaring music from a variety of different disco tents, for which you might want to invest in a pair of ear plugs! You will find this event filled with the young as well as the not-so-young, and it is a place to either spend the day or the night — or both, according to your stamina! — with friends and family, dancing and drinking the hours away. Lastly, on 26th July, the famous procession of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen, takes place. The procession is conducted both on the land as well as out into the sea, ending with a spectacular firework display. If you are still wanting to party after that — well there is always August to look forward to as well! Have a great summer everyone, and stay safe!

Duck causes ruck Two friends ended up in court after falling out over a duck they rescued from McDonald’s. Lee Gaudoin, 31, and Neil Edwards-Cecil, 40, had been celebrating a friend’s birthday when they stopped for a cheeseburger at a branch in Chester. They spotted the bird, which had wandered into the restaurant, and helped it to leave. However, they then started arguing over it and a fight broke out. Gaudoin said: ‘I don’t know how it escalated from there’. When police arrived, Gaudoin lunged for an officer’s stab vest and kicked out as they tried to detain him. Edwards-Cecil was warned to back off after trying to push through to help his friend, but refused and was sprayed with CS gas. According to police, both men swore repeatedly and smelled strongly of alcohol. They later admitted abusive behaviour and resisting a constable. They were given 12-month conditional discharges and each told to pay £85 in court costs. Bottle trap The victim of a persistent milk thief took unusual steps to stamp out the spate of thefts. Instead of wasting police time, IT worker Damon Hudson, 25, of St Ives, Cambridgeshire, decided to get revenge using his own urine and fish oil. He set up a camera in his doorbell to catch the thief in action following the 4am delivery. Damon said: ‘My milk delivery is important to me. It was annoying and a wind-up that the thief felt the need to do this.’ He added that he did not call police because ‘they have better things to do than catch a milk stealer.’ But after losing out on milk for the second week in a row, enough was enough. Entering the third week, he decided to take revenge, and added the new ingredients to the milk. The thief took the bait, and no milk has been stolen since. Damon said: ‘Hopefully that’s the end. The weirdo deserves it.’

Strange News (Continued) Caught on camera A video of a shameless seagull which tried to steal an entire loaf of bread from Poundland in Whitby, North Yorkshire, has gone viral on social media. The shoplifting bird was filmed by road worker Josh Binks who was sitting in his car outside the shop. The 19-year-old, from Whitby, said: ‘I was picking my mum up as she works at that store, and I saw a seagull walk through the doors. I’d only just pulled up and I just watched it. The bread was on a middle shelf about half a metre high and the bird was flapping its wings and pulling it towards himself. ‘I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and filmed it on my phone. I didn’t think it would get so many likes and shares. ‘I know someone who had their fish and chips nicked out of their hands by a seagull — they are definitely getting braver, and they are huge too.’
Roman road An 81-year-old man ended up in Germany by accident after trying to get from Newcastle to Rome. The ‘pilgrim’ OAP was on a mission to see the Pope, and decided to make his way there by car. He was surprised when his satnav told him he had arrived, despite seeing no signs of any of the famous buildings or architecture. The man, who hasn’t been named, parked up but didn’t put the handbrake of his Jaguar on properly. His car rolled backwards and in a stunning display of irony, hit a sign saying ‘Rom’ – the small town in North Rhine Westphalia he had mistakenly programmed into the satnav. A police spokesman said: ‘The man might have been confused by the fact that Rome is written Roma in Italian and Rom in German.’

CACI Facials Are All The Rage With Celebrities CACI facials have been at the forefront of skincare treatment for over 26 years, but many of us don’t have a clue what is actually involved — including myself — that is, until earlier this month.
My skin had become tired-looking and felt a tad dry after the winter months so I had a chat to Sarah, the owner at The Hair and Beauty Studio in Puente don Manuel. She suggested a CACI facial and of course my first reaction was, ‘What is that’? Sarah explained that the original CACI (Computer Aided Cosmetology Instrument) was developed two decades ago for treating Bell’s Palsy (facial paralysis), and that it was proved so effective at correcting and restoring facial muscle tone — and delivering dramatic results without the need for surgical intervention — that today CACI is a world-renowned aesthetic treatment commonly referred to as ‘The Non-Surgical Facelift’. Sarah also added that all the celebs keep trying it out. Well, that did it for me. Appointment booked! On the morning I was a little nervous as I had seen pictures of the metal instrument that is used but Aylene, who was doing the facial, assured me that it was pain-free and comfortable. After the initial consultation I chose the CACI jowl lift, developed to specifically target muscle laxity around the jawline using the quad probes specially designed to lift and firm the muscles and refine contours. It’s a 30-minute treatment that costs 40 euros. There are five other CACI treatments — the CACI hydrotone facial sounds interesting — and maybe one for after the summer as it hydrates sun-damaged skin and is immediately quenched by the hydrating action of the mask. Aylene started by giving me a double cleanse and then it was on to the CACI treatment. The
micro-current toning phrase uses a combination of specific waveforms and ultra-low frequencies providing an instant face-firming effect. The sensation was relaxing and a bit like a face massage, with a short part where I felt a tingling sensation passing to and throw over my face. To finish off I had the LED light therapy mask. Aylene advised on aftercare to make that fresh-faced feeling last longer and it has done the trick as a week later, my face is still glowing and feels incredibly soft and with fewer dry patches. The CACI treatments can vary in time from 20 minutes up to a 90-minute session, and can cost from 20 euros up to 75 euros. For the jowl lift, a course of ten treatments is recommended which includes two for free with the neck included from the sixth treatment. Below is a before and after picture of a client.

Letters Gone Unanswered - I Wonder Why?! Dear Abby is an American advice column founded in 1956 by Pauline Phillips under the pen name "Abigail Van Buren" and carried on today by her daughter, Jeanne Phillips, who now owns the legal rights to the pen name. Here are some letters Dear Abby admitted she was at a loss to answer. Dear Abby A couple of women moved in across the hall from me. One is a middle-aged gym teacher, and the other is a social worker in her mid-20s. These two women go everywhere together, and I’ve never seen a man go into or leave their apartment. Do you think they could be Lebanese? ------------------------------------------------------------Dear Abby What can I do about all the sex, nudity, foul language, and violence on my VCR? ------------------------------------------------------------Dear Abby I’m with a man I can’t trust. He cheats so much, I’m not even sure the baby I’m carrying is his.
Dear Abby I am a 23 year old liberated woman who has been on the pill for two years. It’s getting expensive, and I think my boyfriend should share half the cost, but I don’t know him well enough to discuss money with him. ------------------------------------------------------------Dear Abby I’ve suspected that my husband has been fooling around, and when confronted with the evidence, he denied everything and said it would never happen again. ------------------------------------------------------------Dear Abby Our son writes that he is taking Judo. Why would a boy who was raised in a good Christian home turn against his own? ------------------------------------------------------------Dear Abby You told some women, whose husband had lost all interest in sex, to send him to a doctor. Well, my husband lost all interest in sex, and he is a doctor. Now what do I do? ------------------------------------------------------------Dear Abby My mother is mean and short tempered. I think she is going through mental pause.

The discovery of diamonds in 1908 prompted an influx of Europeans before South Africa seized it during the First World War and administered it under a League of Nations mandate. any payments from the pension until the position is rectified.
The changes are designed to provide extra security for pension members by placing additional licencing requirements on advisers.
If you are in any doubt about the status of your adviser you should check with them.
Under the new rules, an EU or EEA based adviser must be authorised to provide investment advice both in the home country where the Advisory firm is established, and in the jurisdiction within the EU/EEA where the advice is being given. When the investment advice is being provided cross-border (i.e. the Advisory company is regulated in a different country to where the advice is given), as is often the case in Spain, the Adviser must be authorised to provide that service in accordance with the MIFID II (EU Directive 2014/65/EU) and, if a life assurance product is also used, the Insurance Distribution Directive ‘IDD’ (EU Directive 2016/97). If the Advisory firm does not meet the above requirement they will no longer be authorised to act as the Members appointed Investment Adviser. This would mean you are unable to receive advice on your pension, no changes can be made to your investments, and you may not be able to receive
If they are not authorised, the main options open to you are to; 1. Appoint an authorised Discretionary Fund Manager (DFM) to act as your investment adviser, or 2. Transfer to an alternate Advisory firm which is properly authorised. & t i Fru Factss Veg Lime Now is the time when limes are at their very best, but as well as adding flavour to your summer tipple, they also have some important health benefits too. The carbohydrates in limes are mostly made of soluble fibre in the form of pectin. Soluble fibre is known to slow digestion, which keeps your blood sugar stable, and inhibit colon cancer tumour growth. Pectin is also known to promote healthy cholesterol levels and like other citrus fruits, limes contain a nutrient in their peels and oils called d-limonene, which can relieve symptoms of indigestion. Limes are also good for your heart — in addition to the pectin they contain, they are also rich in vitamin C, which is known to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Limes also contain potassium which, according to the American Heart Association, can help relieve tension in the walls of your blood vessels and lower blood pressure. The d-limonene has multiple health benefits and one of them is cancer prevention. Limes also contain a flavonoid called naringenin which, according to a recent study, has strong cancer-preventing properties. Citrus pulp and juice also contain high amounts of beta-cryptoxanthin and hesperidin, which are plant compounds found to prevent malignant tumours from forming in rodents. Research confirms that the citric acid in limes may prevent kidney stones from forming, and patients with low urinary citrate should be encouraged to increase their consumption of foods high in citric acid, according to information posted by the National Institute of Health. Dermatologists love vitamin C for its positive effect on the production of collagen, a protein that helps prevent skin from wrinkling and is often broken down by exposure to the sun and pollution. The juice of limes and lemons can also be used as a natural remedy for acne because of their astringent and antibacterial properties, which can exfoliate
the skin and prevent pores from getting clogged. Anaemia — often caused by an iron deficiency — can be helped by eating limes because their high vitamin C content increases the amount of iron your body is able to absorb. Vitamin C can boost your immune system, and may help relieve asthma symptoms triggered by the common cold. Limes can also fight against harmful parasites and bacteria. A study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that clarified lime juice can prevent the growth of staphylococcus aureus. Another study discovered that lime juice can enhance parasite clearance in those with uncomplicated malaria, and may even relieve pain associated with sickle cell anaemia. They can help keep your arteries healthy. A recent study found that lime juice and peel increased the plasma antioxidant capacity in rabbits, thus preventing or slowing down the process of atherogenesis. The study also concluded that lime peel was more effective than lime juice.

The Perfect Man... and woman... According to a recent study of 4,000 people the perfect woman is a curvy, brunette nurse from Sheffield. And the perfect man is a Newcastle doctor with a good sense of humour and an eye for a cashmere sweater. More than three-quarters of men see a ‘friendly smile’ as the most attractive feature in women. Meanwhile, nine out of ten women look for a man who can make her laugh and 73 per cent want someone who will ‘automatically’ pay for a meal. Men are more attracted to ‘curvy’ rather than skinny women, and prefer brunettes with ‘long, wavy hair’.

WWW.COSTABOATTRIPS.COM - From Caleta De Velez Marina Summer is here and it would be a crime not to take to the Mediterranean Sea — especially if you are here on holiday. Those of us who live here all year round have a bit more time to organise a trip. There is a fantastic marina at Caleta de Velez which is approximately a 30-minute maximum drive away from most areas in the Axarquia region, and there you will find Costa Boat Trips moored up ready and waiting to sail you off on a perfect trip where you can make some fantastic holiday memories. Be sure to book though as they are busy and during the busy summer months, can be out up to three times a day! Of course you don’t only have to be a holidaymaker to enjoy this wonderful boat trip, which is why on a beautiful Saturday morning in June I ventured down to Caleta Marina and boarded the ‘INVICTUS’ — which means ‘undefeated’ in Latin. It’s an Italian-built boat and technically superior, the boat was bought brand new in October 2017 with a new engine ready to either travel very slowly or take you up to 64km per hour. It’s fully licensed and insured and commercially registered, with a full range of safety equipment on board, which is a ‘must’ as safety is paramount. The Invictus is spacious and can seat up to eight people comfortably, meaning it’s fantastic for a family day out or for couples. On board there is a fresh water shower, free food and drinks (soft or alcoholic as always)!
It was an amazingly calm day and after the month I had just had, I was ready to sit back and relax, soaking up the sun, enjoying the mesmerising sound of the water and the unobstructed views of the Andalucian countryside with a cava in one hand — but with no phone or PC in sight … Bliss! Whilst on your trip there is a good chance that you will see some dolphins if you’re lucky and this is what I was looking forward to the most. We certainly did that, spotting a big pod of them — maybe 7 to 9 — that gave us 40 minutes of their lovely attention and came surprisingly close to our boat too. You can never see too many of them and they always evoke a ‘WOW’ from everyone — they are simply spectacular. All in all I had a wonderful few hours out at sea and would recommend this trip to anyone. The hosts are lovely too, which makes a big difference — they’re so laid-back and make the trip specially designed to your individual requests. See main advert opposite

The New In Place To Dine - Restaurante Mangoa - Velez Malaga El Restaurante de Mangoa is a newly opened restaurant situated in the equally new Mercado de San Francisco in the old town of Velez Malaga, run by Mangoa Catering and Deco who have had experience in catering since 1915. One recent sunny afternoon I visited Mangoa with a few friends. Situated just off the road, this restaurant has yet to be discovered by many and I can assure you that once found, you will visit time and time again. Mangoa offers a unique and very different experience for gastronomic dining. The restaurant itself has a tasteful décor, comfy seating and a great ambience with some nice background music. The staff in this restaurant are second to none — so attentive and on the ball, which very often is lacking in Spain. We chose to sit out on the small quaint terrace, soaking up the rays for a little drink and olives prior to our meal. Once inside, we opted for the chef’s taster menu, which offers seven dishes for a very respectable 30€ per person. The waitress on duty described all the dishes selected by the chef that day. They were extremely accommodating by changing the dishes slightly to allow a vegetarian in our party to be able to enjoy all seven dishes. Hats off to them — this was great service! The first of our many dishes arrived. This was
a small bowl of what I would describe as a gazpacho with a hint of fish. We all received a small bowl of olive oil for dipping our bread. Second up, a plate to share of raw tuna, avocado and tomato salad – there was the most amazing explosion of flavours, which combined was delicious. Other dishes that we enjoyed included stroganoff with mushrooms and beef, salmon and tagliatelle, a curry similar to a Thai curry with coconut rice, a pork shank with mashed potato with a tomato and vegetable sauce and for dessert, an amazing crumble made with batata – surprisingly tasty. For me, some of the small touches were what made my experience that extra specially satisfying as a customer should experience — eg: the small bowl of olive oil we each received for dipping our bread and all our cutlery was changed after every single course. It has to be the best service to date that I have experienced in Spain — five stars! If you enjoy a nice glass of wine with your meal, they also have a great selection of Malaga wines of exquisite quality and a naughty-but-nice dessert menu. Mangoa fits into the setting of the Mercado de San Francisco really well as it’s already a gastronomic and cultural space. All in all, this restaurant is a must if you are looking for something that little bit different but with Michelin style and quality. See main advert opposite FB: El Restaurante de Mangoa

Axarquia Solicitors Law Office 5 STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR DEALING WITH AN INHERITANCE OF AN EXPAT OR NON-RESIDENT IN SPAIN Organizing an inheritance in Spain is a difficult task for everyone, specially if you don’t know the Spanish law. In this post we explain the basic steps to be followed when a non-resident or expat passes away owning assets in Spain. It is necessary to carry out a legal procedure to change ownership of assets of the deceased person into the name of the heirs. 1st Step: Get an original death certificate. This official document is normally provided by the funeral company and it can also be obtained from the Civil Registry. 2nd Step: Get original certificates of the last will (if any) signed by the deceased person, as well as the certificate of any life insurance policies in place. With these certificates we will confirm if the deceased person made a will in Spain. We can find two situations: a) Existence of a will made inside or outside Spain. In this case the assets will be distributed according to the wishes of the deceased person. b) Non-existence of a will. If the deceased person never made a will, the distribution of his assets will be made according to the laws of his nationality. 3rd Step: the heirs or relatives of the deceased person will have to sign an inheritance deed in front of a Spanish Public Notary in order to accept and distribute all the assets. Please, be aware that debts are also inherited so it is important to confirm that the value of the assests is higher than any possible debts.
4th Step: Filling Inheritance Tax Form 650 with the local Tax Office. For EU citizens there are allowances up to 1.000.000 euros per heir (in case of direct relatives: spouse and children), so in most cases there won’t be any inheritance tax to be paid. The inheritance taxes must be filled within 6 months from the date of the death. 5th Step: Take the inheritance title deeds to the Land Registry in case the deceased person owned a real estate property or to banks/insurance companies in case the deceased person had funds, bank accounts or life insurance policies. We recommend hiring the professional services of a solicitor so this procedure can be done in a speedy and correct way. For further advice on this matter or to arrange a no obligation meeting to discuss your particular circumstances in detail, please contact us Jose M. Lopez-Avalos Tel. A-Z Of Spain Following on from The Sentinella’s journey through the alphabet to discover the joys of Spain. This month we bring you the letter N. Nerja Nerja is situated on the country's southern Mediterranean coast, about 50 km east of Málaga. This is often known as one of the Costa del Sol’s best kept secrets. It’s always a busting haven for tourists, so not sure how it can be that much of a secret! The Balcon de Europa in the centre of the town is the most visited part, a mirador or viewpoint which gives stunning views across the sea. The Nerja Caves, which were discovered in 1959 are also extremely popular. Natillas (Custard) If you choose menu del dia as your meal in a typical Spanish eatery, chances are that Natillas will appear amongst the choice of desserts. This is usually served cold unless you state otherwise. If you want it hot, then
just say, “natillas caliente por favor”. Another frequent Spanish dessert is arroz con leche, which is actually rice pudding. They love the stuff over here, but for me neither Natiallas or Arroz con Leche do it for me as much as that good old caned winner, Ambrosia! If you don’t like custard or rice pudding, then if you’re lucky they may serve helado (ice cream) And we all like that, don’t we!

s Now rson b e l Ce en & n Ande Th Gillia American-born actress Gillian Anderson was born on August 9, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. She has English, German and Irish ancestry. Her parents left America with her when she was two, living in London and then Northern Ireland. When she was 11, they moved to Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, where she was teased for her English accent. She was voted "Class Clown", "Most Bizarre Girl" and "Most Likely to be Arrested" by her classmates in high school. In fact, she was arrested on graduation night for trying to glue the locks shut at her school. She started her career as a member of an amateur actor group while at high school. In 1987, her love of the theatre took her to the National Theatre of Great Britain Summer Acting Programme held at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Afterwards, Gillian returned to the Goodman Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois, where she finished her education. Her big break came with The X-Files (1993) as Dana Scully. There, she met her future husband (Clyde Klotz), marrying on January 1st 1994 on a golf course. One month later, Gillian was pregnant and her daughter, Piper Maru Anderson-Klotz, was born on 25th September 1994 — Gillian returned to work on The X Files 10 days after she gave birth and recorded her last episode last year. Her daughter was the inspiration for the title of an episode of The X-Files introducing the famous black oil in the series.
Standing at just 5' 3", Gillian had to stand on an apple box to shoot many scenes in The X-Files. Her film career started with the movie The Turning in 1997 and, the following year, she starred in Playing by Heart (1998) with Sean Connery, Ellen Burstyn, Angelina Jolie and Dennis Quaid. Gillian relocated to London again as an adult in 2002, and still lives there. Gillian has been married twice — after divorcing Clyde in 1997, she wed Julian Ozanne in December 2004. The couple divorced in 24 July 2007. She had her second child at age 38 — a son, Oscar Griffiths — on November 1, 2006 and her third, Felix, when she was 40. The boys’ father is her ex-boyfriend, Mark Griffiths. Among her recent successful TV roles are former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Crown and Miss Haversham in the mini-series Great Expectations. She was voted the "Sexiest Woman in the World" by FHM magazine's "100 Sexiest Women" poll in 1996, and was chosen by Australian men magazine Zoo weekly as one of the "Top 50 Hottest Babes Ever" in March 2006. Gillian once received an offer to appear on the cover and pose nude for Playboy, but turned it down. She was awarded an honorary OBE in the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to drama.

The pair met in 2009, wed a year later and were divorced two years after that in acrimonious circumstances. He also wants to apologise for his moods and jealousy. Russell is now with wife Laura Gallacher, while Katy is engaged to English actor Orlando Bloom. But the comic, 44, is planning to meet with Katy, 34, in LA to say sorry. A source told The Sun: "He wants to say sorry — in particular for the way it ended which was mostly his doing. He also wants to apologise for his moods and jealousy." Katy has already opened up about how damaged she was from the divorce and their doomed relationship. "I was in bed for about two weeks,” she told The Sun. “It hurt a lot—I got a good knock." in the street. The 28-year-old soap star revealed that she witnessed a woman being verbally attacked during a night out in Oxford. Georgia was left "appalled" after watching a man verbally attack the young woman because she had "short hair". The attack was even more shocking coming soon after couple Melania Geymonat, 28, and her American girlfriend, Chris, 29, were assaulted on a London bus and left bloodied and bruised. "I cannot believe I just had to break up a fight between a man and a woman because of the names he called her for having short hair,” Georgia told her 328,000 Twitter followers. Referring to herself, she added, “A small Manc woman scared him off. I was appalled.” Kyle grilled TV presenter Jeremy Kyle has been asked to give evidence at the parliamentary inquiry into ITV's duty of care. The parliamentary committee is also looking at shows such as Love Island, which has seen two former participants, Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, take their own lives following appearances. The Jeremy Kyle Show was axed last month after it emerged that former guest, Steve Dymond, had taken his own life days after appearing on the show. It's understood that Steve went on the show to try and prove he hadn't been unfaithful to his partner, Jane Callaghan. But when filming the show, he failed the lie detector test, which prompted the end of his relationship. Reportedly 'humiliated and traumatised', Steve took his own life. Many others have since come forward claiming the show treated them poorly, with one saying she had attempted suicide twice after failing the lie detector.

In 1947 a chap called Dr. Max Luscher invented the ‘Luscher Colour Test’. A simplified version of this is still used today by psychologists to reveal hidden moods and stresses. The test asks you to list the eight colours used according to your preference, with the colour you like best at the top and least at the bottom. The eight colours used are blue, green, yellow, red, violet, brown, black and grey. So before you jump ahead and scan the rest of the page to discover what each colour means, make your list now! The key is not to spend lots of time deliberating over them but rather to go with your gut feeling. Done? Right... Now you can carry on reading! Blue - Indicates being passive, sensitive, perceptive, calm, tender, loving and affectionate. Green - Suggests defensiveness, possessiveness, persistence, assertiveness and self-confidence. Relief From Varicose Veins: A New Discovery? I recently had a client that was so pleased with my work on her muscles that she commented; “Now if only you could help me with my varicose vein and I wouldn´t have a problem sleeping at all”. This got me thinking, was there anything I could do? As a student we were taught that varicose veins are unfortunately irreparable, if they cause discomfort, then an operation to remove was the only option. Many people with varicose veins complain of pain, described as an aching or cramping in the legs. Other common symptoms include tiredness, restlessness, burning, throbbing, tingling, or heaviness in the legs. I came up with an idea, why couldn´t I mirror the function of the broken vein with kinesiology taping, therefore taking the pressure off the broken valves and encouraging blood flow. I am pleased to say I received an email that weekend from my client:
helping. The throbbing is still there but I am not so aware of it and it is not keeping me awake at night so much. I think it would be a good idea if you could find a few more people to trial this on to see if they experience the same or if I am just having a placebo effect. I will definitely have more put on when I next come. Maybe a new discovery??? So I am asking for volunteers who suffer with pain of varicose veins to contact me in hope that I may have discovered a non invasive solution. By Amanda Edge, BscHonsRSA See main advert below

Unspoilt Andalusia Beautiful places – Cortijo Breña, Montes de Málaga – old world nostalgia in the mountains Last month I wrote that sometimes one comes across a gem of a property. I have found another one! It is so beautiful I nearly cried when I walked in, as did the first two sets of clients who viewed it. Walking through this magical world, behind walled grounds, and nestling at the foot of extensive meadowland is a relaxation therapy in itself! A stroll across cobblestones and through massive original wooden double doors leads into one beautiful room after another, with high ceilings displaying beams and original cane infill, wonderful rustic floors, alcoves and stained glass windows, wooden and glass patio doors and ancient, one hundred year old wooden shutters. The rear courtyard is an oasis of calm with so many shady corners and places to sit. The pretty pool has a cascade from a higher pool into the main pool, enclosed behind high, stone walls and accompanied by many trees, shrubs and
rambling ivy and flowers. Inside and outside flow together in perfect harmony. The owners want me to sell it soon – let’s hope I get just a few chances to revisit it with clients before it finds its lucky new owner! To see the photos, look for AX872 on our website.

Dear Penny Agony Aunt Penny gives readers, advice, help and guidance through the minefield called life.
Dear Penny
My partner, who I have been with for ten years, has recently turned into an alcoholic. When we lived in England up until two years ago, he only used to drink a beer now and again, but nothing more. Since moving to Spain, he comes home drunk every night, and having to drive around windy mountain roads, I am worried for his safety and for the safety of others. Whenever I suggest coming out with him he tells me no and that he likes to spend time alone, away from me. He has a job here and is earning good money so I have no idea why he has suddenly turned to drink. Please help... Anonymous Penny Says: There can be all sorts of reasons why a person suddenly turns to drink so it is difficult to determine why your partner has. You say he has a good job, but does he enjoy doing it? Are there any cracks in your relationship? Perhaps he misses friends and family in the UK and has taken this long to realise it. Maybe he doesn’t like it in Spain so much after all and wants to return to England, but doesn’t know how to broach the subject with you? I think one evening you should sit him down and express your serious concern for his recent behaviour. If he doesn’t talk to you then tell him his heavy drinking is making you unhappy. If he carries on after that, book him in for an appointment at AA.
Yours Penny

The History Of Gin: Mother’s Ruin Gin is now one of the most popular drinks in the UK, with every conceivable flavour being added to it. In fact, gin has always been a popular drink but not always in sophisticated gin bars. Of all the spirits on the shelves, gin has possibly the most stories to tell. Here’s a small slice of the history of gin.
Mother’s ruin By the 18th century, gin was demonised. Propaganda drawings of women dropping their babies in a gin stupor made it the most vilified of spirits. When one woman was hanged because she allowed her baby to die as she went on a hunt for more gin, the public was outraged.
Medicinal gin Juniper berries, the main ingredient in gin, were first mentioned in 70AD as being steeped in wine to help with chest ailments. However, gin as we know it began in The Netherlands in the 1600s as jenever, a mix of juniper berries and malt wine. This harsh tasting drink was still considered medicinal. By the 1700s and after a few tweaks, gin was born. The name change isn’t exactly clear, but perhaps inebriated English folk struggled to order a genever but could comfortably shout gin!
Spirit taxes were increased and by 1830 beer once again became cheaper than gin. As a result, gin's popularity waned.
Gin madness By the late 1600s, gin had a real breakthrough. New Royal decrees and tax allowances gave a huge boost to the production of spirits, and gin was being produced on a colossal scale. It became cheaper than beer but far more potent.
It was the drink of everyone. Whilst the nobility sipped delicately on gin, the poorer classes necked it a little too vigorously. Hot gin and gingerbread tents set up on the frozen Thames promised warm relief (or a total comatose state) from the bitterly cold winters. These first ice bars were known as the Frost Fairs. It’s highly unlikely that they worried about what types of glass to serve the gin in and whether a copa de balon was best. Fearing an inebriated nation, the government swiftly stopped the party with a distiller’s licence.
Gin today Gin has undergone a massive resurgence. With it no longer being in the media for creating insanity or depravity, it is the drink of the moment. After centuries of ill-repute as mother’s ruin, it’s time to put ice and a slice in your balloon glass, top with gin and a mixer and enjoy. Cheers! Article written by Grimble

A Taste Of... Malaysia and Singapore Malaysia has a rich history and is located in Southeast Asia. The official language is Malaysian, with English being recognised as the country’s second language. Malaysian cuisine has been influenced from cultures including Malay, Chinese and Thai, amongst others. Singapore is an island city-state in Southeast Asia. The languages used most are English, Malay, Mandarin, plus Tamil. The cuisine has influences from Malay, China and India, plus other countries.
Deep Fried Sambal Fish (fried whole sea bass, okra, onion rings, dried shrimps, chilli, sambal, lemon, lettuce), which is very popular. Beef and Chicken dishes have regular ‘devotees’, too, along with superb variations of noodle cuisine. Char Kway Teow (thick flat rice noodles, eggs, prawns, squid, beansprouts, chives) is very flavoursome and a regular choice for many diners. Presented perfectly, this merits ‘Compliments to Chef’. Rasa Sayang restaurant, opened 2008, is located in the Chinatown area of London, with casino and theatre entertainment nearby and offers Malaysian and Singaporean food. Several cooking styles are utilised, by the very talented team of chefs, at this restaurant, including Peranakan. This style has Chinese ingredients and Malaysian spices, coming together, to produce aromatic and flavoursome foods. The dishes known as ‘Heat Zone’ offer splendid cuisine for diners, being full-flavoured, with rich and hot results, plus very impressive presentations. All dishes can be adjusted to suit taste requirements. An array of nibbles, including Roti Canai with chicken curry sauce and/or dahl, commences proceedings, perfectly. Other selections include Achar (pickled pineapple, carrots, cucumber, sesame seeds, peanuts) and Prawn Paste Chicken (fried chicken marinated with prawn paste). Moving on, further options include

s e p o c s o Hor by Juanita Banana of www.AbsoluteAxarquia.com ARIES: March 21-April 20 You’ll need plenty of physical stamina to keep up with the good times, fun, romance, and outdoor adventure that’s in store for you this month. Your best bet for personal success in July is to be completely selfless and pay attention to the needs of others TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Resist urges to be pompous and condescending, make a date with a friend you haven’t seen recently, visit a local art museum and if you don’t need a certain something don’t buy it. Truly wonderful, and quite possibly very romantic, news brightens your days on the 19th to 21st. Enjoy a heart-to-heart over a healthy shared meal GEMINI: May 22-June 21 Debate and get to the nitty gritty. Speak the truth and don’t worry about causing offence. Check correspondence on the 2nd to 3rd to make sure you haven’t forgotten something important. Your innately creative solutions will clear up any professional problems that might arise on the 15th and 16th CANCER: June 22-July 22 Lights, camera, action – your plans are great plans and you want people to recognise and remember. Keep checking in with yourself, also treat yourself to some regenerative time, to make sure you stay grounded LEO: July 23-August 23 Anything and everything is within your reach, Leo, right now. Take advantage of all this energy to put a few major requests out into the universe. You know how to make your own fun and everybody lucky enough to be hanging out with you is in for a good time VIRGO: August 24-September 22 To get the most from July, you’ll need to be flexible in both mind and body – make time for yoga! A little philosophy and a lot of travel are in store for you towards the end of the month. Go with the flow and by the 30th you’ll have a different perspective on the world
LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 Remind yourself that creativity is one of your major gifts – use it to find a way out of a rut at home or work. Others will be truly grateful that you did. Take enough time to rest and re-energise, take a nap now and again, have a massage SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 You’re good at your job, often sensational but, to get further, keep that ego in check and communicate humbly. Don’t rush to make decisions and be ready to make compromises. Your intuitive powers are strong on the 25th so listen to your dreams and your instincts SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 As we move into July, make an extra effort to follow your desires and see where they lead. Your spirit of adventure animates your actions during the first week of July and helps bring solutions to problems you’d like to resolve. Make allowances for other people’s energy that may not match yours CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Any misunderstandings, particularly at work, should be cleared up by the 6th but if someone out there thinks you owe them something, politely and gently explain why that’s not so. You’ll need boundaries to deal with the flakes who seem to want to hang out in your domain AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 In July you’ll become aware of where the bottlenecks in your life are and how to unplug them. You have an amazing, expansive feeling and want to seek out new territories and explore new realms - follow through! Now is the time to spread your wings and fly PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Make some plans for a health routine and put into action, Check your diet, vitamins, sleep patterns. If a relationship is starting to wobble, take time for self-reflection and what you would truly like the future to be. The same with career goals – make sure you’re headed where your motivation wants to be
