m Fro Ed... the Welcome to the March edition. When I hear the word ‘March’, I think of springtime, being outdoors, warmer weather, odd days on the beach soaking up the sun, blossom, baby animals and ironically, a bit more rain. So far this year we really have had the most wonderful winter and indeed, unlike so many of our friends and relatives back in the UK who have been coping with widespread, prolonged flooding, we do really need a bit more rain. Hopefully, by the time this is printed, we will have had some of that liquid that is badly needed before the long, dry spring/summer arrives — but we certainly hope that someone “up there” knows when to turn the tap off when we’ve had enough! In December last year, I prepared myself for the winter months that I thought would be on their way, and decided to have a heating/aircon unit fitted just before Christmas. To this day, though, I have only used it twice — that’s how nice it has been weatherwise. I can’t complain, though, as at least my electric bill won’t be any higher! Talking of electricity bills, recently I decided to change from my current contract with Endesa to Fox Energy. Why? You may well ask! Well, by sheer coincidence, a man called Daniel called me, wanting to advertise his services in The Sentinella … and these just happened to be for ‘ways to save on your electricity bills’. Obviously I asked him 101 questions — being a tad sceptical about this sort of thing — and after a short chat, he had explained to me that all he needed to assess whether or not he could find me any saving was for me to send him the front and back of my electricity bill. Once home, I fished out my last bill and sent it to Daniel on Whatsapp. Within the hour, he had sent me a proposal with Fox Energy which would, on paper, result in a 15-euro saving each month. OK, so this isn’t a huge amount, but over a year, that would be 180 euros that I could save or spend elsewhere. I did wonder, though, if it was worth all the effort

Strange News of having to contact Endesa and cancel my contract etc, but Daniel can even help with that too! He explained to me that he takes care of all of that and the only thing I had to do was send him a copy of an official document that had my signature on it. I was even more sceptical at this point — knowing Spain’s passion for bureaucracy and everything in triplicate — but I agreed to go ahead. After all, if I didn’t try, I would never know. Approximately three weeks later, I received notification from Fox Energy to say I was now going to be billed by them. I waited patiently for my first bill and lo and behold, it was 15 euros cheaper. I then waited for two more bills in order to be sure that it wasn’t just a one-off, but the next two have both had a saving of 13-16 euros. So I am over the moon and as Daniel explained, the process is so simple — he really does do it all. I didn’t even have to contact Endesa, and they sent me a cancellation letter! Plus — and it really surprised me — I didn’t even have to pay a fee to Daniel either. He offers a fantastic service and I’m one happy customer! If you would like to see if Daniel can make you a saving, contact him on 662 114 241 or if you are on Whatsapp, just send him your latest bill, front and back, and wait for the results! On that note, enjoy reading this month’s edition and thanks as always to all our advertisers and you, the readers… I wish you all a wonderful month of March :)

Only Fools and Corpses? A man was shocked to find his own grave at a cemetery, despite being very much alive. Alan Hattel, a retired welder from Forfar, Fife, said he was worried that no-one had phoned him in three or four months, and couldn’t figure out why. Now he believes people think he died – and wants them to know the truth. He blames his ex-wife for putting the gravestone there, though admits he cannot be certain. ‘I’ve been confused by it all but now I know why nobody has been calling,’ he said. ‘I don’t even want to be buried – I plan to be cremated.’ The headstone was erected at Newmonthill Cemetery in Forfar. Mr Hattel added ‘The whole thing is like something out of Only Fools and Horses’. Pesky pranks Office workers in Braintree, Essex, are not sure what to do about a pesky crow which has vandalised a number of their cars. They are having to cover up their windscreen wipers with tarpaulin and blankets to stop the crow — which they have named George — from damaging them. He began his campaign of destruction in November last year and since then, more than a dozen people have come back to their cars to find around £36 of damage each. It is happening outside Greenfields Community Housing’s HQ in the town – and George is thought to have struck in nearby Braintree Village too. Member of staff Amanda Bhavani told the BBC: ‘He has attacked about 20 cars and even though we have tried to shoo him away, he will come back as soon as our backs are turned.’ ‘We are looking for a long-term solution just to deter George,’ added Amanda. In a bid to deter George, staff have installed two owl figures on the top of the office roof and fitted a hawk-shaped kite, nicknamed Chesney Hawk, in the middle of the car park.

Strange News (Continued) Tourist with a trunk A wild elephant has been filmed enjoying a stay in a hotel in Sri Lanka. The elephant, named Natta Kota (meaning Short Tail), is a regular at the Jetwing Yala Hotel on the island’s south east coast. He lives in the grounds, and occasionally makes his way inside where he seems unfazed by his surroundings. Footage was uploaded on Twitter by the mother of a tourist. ‘Woke up to a text from my mum about how a wild elephant went into her hotel and gently wandered around while poking stuff with his trunk,’ she tweeted. Around five months ago, the Jetwing Yala uploaded another video showing the elephant in the hotel. Staff warned: ‘Please note that though he is a regular visitor to our hotels, Natta Kota is still very much a wild elephant and we at Jetwing would have him remain as such. ‘While it is exciting and memorable to encounter wild animals in and around our hotels, we humbly request that guests respect their space and maintain a healthy distance at all times.’

Leopard spotted A father has told how he tentatively approached what he thought was a leopard in the road while driving through West Yorkshire. Ben Lilly, 40, passed the spotty shape on the A646 near Hebden Bridge. Intrigued, he turned round to try and get a look at the animal up close. He cautiously left his car, heart racing and fearing his face may be ‘ripped off’ by the fearsome beast. But then his fear turned to embarrassment as he realised that it was just an abandoned onesie, complete with a tail. Admitting his mistake on Facebook, Ben said: ‘Careful! Dead leopard in the road on way to Halifax! Oh no, it’s some tart’s coat from last night, can’t believe I turned back for this! ‘It looked really real while I was driving,’ he added. ‘I thought “wow” because you hear of these sightings of big cats and around the Halifax area; there have been reports before.’

Happy St. Patrick’s Day - Tuesday 17th March Saint Patrick is best known for driving the snakes from Ireland. As in many old pagan religions, serpent symbols were common and often worshipped. Driving the snakes from Ireland was probably symbolic of putting an end to that pagan practice.

parades, ‘wearing of the green,’ music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, colouring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye river or streams green!

Saint Patrick’s Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick’s Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide. So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that was the day that St. Patrick died. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass. In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with

“She’s the one who made birthdays and holidays happy.” “She had to carry me around for like two years.” “Those 6,541 school lunches she packed for me.” “She taught me to believe in myself.” “She doesn’t say it but she misses me every day.” “She works hard.” “Even when I make her mad, she still loves me.” “It was funny, my Mum’s voice was so loud, even the neighbours brushed their teeth and got dressed!!”

Thoughts To Ponder Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. Life is sexually transmitted. Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an erection, make him a sandwich. Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the internet and they won’t bother you for weeks. Some people are like a Slinky... not really good for anything, but you still can’t help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs. Why does a slight tax increase cost you two

hundred euros and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents?!  In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal. People say follow your dreams, so I went back to bed. If you don’t make time for your wellness you will be forced to make time for your illness. Be careful who you trust. Salt and sugar look the same. Sometimes you just have to be done, not mad, not upset. Just done. Create a vision that makes you wanna jump out of bed in the morning. The first to apologise is the bravest. The first to forgive is the strongest. And the first to forget is the happiest.

Interesting Facts... The country emerged in 1948 amid the chaos following the end of the Second World War. Its history is dominated by its Great Leader, Kim Il-sung, who shaped

political affairs for almost half a century. Kim Jong-un took over from his father Kim Jong-il when he died from a heart attack in December 2011. Kim Il-sung bought 1,000 Volvo cars from Sweden but never paid for them. Apparently, the Swedish government still sends invoices each year, and the current debt is around 2.8 million USD. Both sexes have 15 haircuts that are approved by the regime. However, none of the men’s approved haircuts are similar to their supreme leader’s. Kim Jong Il is said to have scored a perfect 300 score the first time he went bowling, and the first time he played golf he managed to do 11 hole-in-ones. He also supposedly learned how to drive at the age of 3. Every North Korean household has been given a government radio that can’t be turned off. You’re only allowed to turn the volume down. If someone breaks the law, it’s not only that person who gets punished, but the whole family for three generations forward.

Linea Directa PROTECT YOUR HOME Finding an emergency plumber to fix a burst pipe in the early hours of the morning can be a stressful experience. Damage can run into the thousands. Most home insurance covers water damage from leaking pipes. But what is covered and what is not, can be confusing. GUARANTEED PROTECTION Home insurance from LĂnea Directa covers your property 100% against any water damage, which means we will guarantee the insured contents for their full base value. Our policy also covers accidents, unforeseen spillage and leaks from neighbouring properties. Our policies also cover flooding, mudslides or an accidental diversion on the ordinary course of water flow in channels, ditches or sewage flows. DISCOVER A LEAK If you discover a leak, turn off the stop valve to stop the flow of water. Then turn off the mains electricity supply. Place a bucket under the leak to catch as much water as possible, while turning on all the taps to reduce the system pressure. Take photographs of any damage and retain any possessions that have been damaged. These may be needed in the event of a claim. If you would like some further advice on this matter, please call our English speaking customer service on 902 325 325.

Currencies Direct Brexit drives volatility in the pound, EUR exchange rates weakened by Eurozone slowdown fears Staying up to date with the latest currency news can help you time your transfers effectively, so find out what you should be looking out for over the next couple of weeks… Latest currency news The pound has traded in a wide range over the past month as Brexit and political uncertainty infuses volatility into the currency. GBP/EUR has trended between a high of €1.20 and a low of €1.17. Meanwhile, the volatility in GBP/USD has been even more pronounced, with the pairing fluctuating between lows of US$1.28 and a high of US$1.32. Over the same period, EUR/GBP fluctuated between £0.82 and £0.85, while EUR/USD slumped from US$1.11 to US$1.07. What do you need to look out for? In the coming weeks we expect Brexit to

remain a key catalyst of movement in the pound, likely driving further volatility as trade negotiations between the UK and EU get underway. Also set to influence Sterling sentiment will be the publication of the UK government’s long-awaited Budget. Will some ambitious spending plans spur GBP exchange rates higher on 11 March? Meanwhile, EUR investors will be keeping a close eye on Eurozone economic data in the coming month as they look to ascertain whether the recent slowdown is likely to stretch through the first quarter. At Currencies Direct we’re here to talk currency whenever you need us, so get in touch if you want to know more about the latest news or how it could impact your currency transfers. Since 1996 we’ve helped more than 325,000 customers with their currency transfers, just pop into your local Currencies Direct branch or give us a call to find out more.

De Cotta Law Now is the time for people from the UK to settle in Spain. With more than 50,000 people already registered on the Costa del Sol, advice from the authorities both in the UK and in Spain is to register now while the rules are clear. Over the years the majority have been pensioners, but with the flexibility of being able to live and work anywhere within the European Union there have been a lot more businesses and working people with families settling in Spain. If you intend to remain in Spain more than 90 days, or if it is going to be your principal residence, you can apply for residencia – a residency card – under the current rules until the end of the year. From January 2021 it is not yet certain whether that will be more than 90 days in each 180 days or not. There are still negotiations taking place and everybody hopes that there will be further agreements based on reciprocity between the UK and Spain. What is clear are the current requirements, which will remain in place during this transition period. At present, to apply for residence as a Pensioner with a state pension you need a letter from the DHS stating the amount you receive with a translation. You need to obtain your form S1 from your medical centre in the UK and register this with the Spanish medical system. If you own a property, you need a recent Land Registry entry. You will need copies of your documents and to have your original passport with you. If you do not have a State Pension you will

need letters of proof of Private Pensions and/or income with proof from a bank showing your monthly income, again with translations. The amount of income must be a minimum of 855â‚Ź per month, however this may be affected if you have economic dependants. You will also need private Spanish medical cover confirming that it is fully paid up for one year. Evidence of property ownership should be provided. Finally, if you are self-employed in Spain (autonomo) you need the Model 037 form, registration with the Town Hall and evidence of Spanish health care. In all cases you should also apply to be registered at your local Town Hall on the padron. The appointments systems vary and some local knowledge can be very helpful in ensuring your application is dealt with. If you want to make your application now contact us: info@decottalaw.net / tel: 952 527 014. De Cotta Law for all your legal services.

VetiverSpain Now is the BEST time to plant Vetiver! Vetiver grass has many applications but its most common use is for solving erosion problems due to its 2-4 metres deep root system. Vetiver planted near other crops increases their yield. Vetiver is also used as a windbreak. Planted now, the plants should be 1-2 metres tall by the fall when the winds come. Vetiver helps save water all year long as the roots store water while improving soil quality.

the best time to plant Vetiver. In Sayalonga we plant all year round but our best results have been from planting in March. The reason for this is that Vetiver is indigenousness to India and Vetiver loves the heat of summer to become more established. This is the opposite of what most people believe. & t i Fru Facts uts Veg Cocon C

The coconut palm has been grown for more than 4,500 years. It is used for its water, milk, oil and tasty meat, also becoming popular for its potential health benefits. The minerals in coconut are involved in many functions in your body. Coconuts are especially high in manganese, which is essential for bone health and the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and cholesterol. It’s also rich in copper and iron, which help form red blood cells, as well as selenium, an important antioxidant that protects your cells. Some test-tube and animal studies have also shown that antioxidants found in coconut oil may help protect cells from damage and death caused by oxidative stress and chemotherapy. Much of the fat in coconut meat is in the form of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). Your body metabolises MCTs differently from other types of fats, absorbing them directly from your small intestine and rapidly using them for energy. One review on the benefits of MCTs in people with obesity found these fats may actually promote body fat loss when eaten in place of long-chain saturated fats from animal foods. Consuming virgin coconut oil, which is extracted from dried coconut meat, may reduce belly fat. This is especially beneficial because excess belly fat increases your risk of heart disease and diabetes. A study in 20 people with obesity found the waist size of male participants decreased by an average of about 1 inch (about 3 cm) after they consumed 1 ounce (30 ml) of virgin coconut oil daily for 4 weeks. However, in a longer study, women who consumed 1 ounce (30 ml) of refined coconut oil daily for 12 weeks experienced a reduction of 0.5 inches (1.4 cm) from their waist measurement, on average. Studies have found that people who live on Polynesian islands and frequently eat coconut

meat have lower rates of heart disease than those who follow a Western diet. Because coconut is low in carbs and high in fibre and fat, it may help stabilise your blood sugar. One study found that coconut had anti-diabetic effects too, possibly due to its arginine content. Arginine is an amino acid that’s important for the functioning of pancreatic cells, which release the hormone insulin to regulate your blood sugar levels. When rats with diabetes were fed protein made from coconut meat, their blood sugar, insulin levels and other glucose metabolism markers were much better than those that didn’t eat coconut protein. In addition, beta cells in their pancreas started making more insulin. Researchers suspected this was also due to the high amounts of arginine found in coconut. The high fibre content of coconut meat can also help slow digestion and improve insulin resistance, which can help regulate blood sugar levels as well. Coconut flour is used in baking as a substitute for wheat flour. It’s gluten-free, nut-free and a popular option for anyone who’s counting carbs. Because it’s grain-free, the flour is also good for those on the paleo diet, which does not allow grain products such as regular wheat flour.

Tax Declaration Infomation Modelo 720 - 720 Tax Form TAX DECLARATION OF ASSETS OUTSIDE OF SPAIN BY TAX RESIDENTS IN SPAIN All tax residents in Spain, (i.e. Those people living in Spain for more than 183 days a year or those whose main business interest is in Spain), should be aware that as a consequence of legislation approved in 2012 for the prevention and control of fraud, that if they have any assets outside of Spain valued at 50,000€ or more, they are required to submit a 720 Tax Form to the Spanish authorities. This form was created by the Spanish Authorities in order to control assets or funds that people have outside of Spain. This declaration allows the Spanish Tax Office to be aware and to control that appropriate taxes are paid. This declaration can be made online, through the Tax Office`s webpage www.agenciatributaria.es where the Modelo 720 (Statement of Assets Outside Spain) can be located and completed. It must be filled in during the first quarter (from 1st January to 31st March) of the first year of residence, to avoid being investigated or fined by the Spanish authorities. The assets outside of Spain that are subject to this new declaration form fall into 3 categories: 1. Real Estate. 2. All types of accounts, investments, bank deposits and companies. 3. Actions, rent, insurance, bonds or dividends acquired or managed outside Spain. It is obligatory to submit this form when the total value of assets outside of Spain is 50,000€ or more in EACH OR ANY ONE of the above categories; e.g. if we have 2 properties valued at 30,000€ although the value individually would be below the threshold, the total value of both would be 60,000€, thus exceeding the specified limit in that category, and therefore subject to this new 720 Tax declaration. However, if you have a property valued at 30,000€ and say, shares valued at 30,000€, as they are in separate categories and each total value

does not exceed the 50,000€ then you would not be required to make a declaration. A declaration must be submitted individually by each owner, regardless of how many owners there are, or the percentage of participation held by each owner, (this is specified later). For example, if you own half of a property valued at 50,000€, although your 25,000€ share is below the threshold, both owners are still required to submit an individual declaration based on the total value of the property. Although this declaration of assets and rights abroad is solely informative and NO TAX is charged, failure to file, late filing or false information could result in serious consequences. For this reason, we recommend that residents in Spain fulfill their obligation to declare their assets outside of Spain, to avoid the imposition of fines from a minimum of €10,000 to a maximum of 150% of the value of those undeclared assets located outside of Spain. Once you have made your first declaration it is not necessary to present any further declarations in subsequent years, unless any of your assets in any category increases or decreases by more than 20,000€ above the initial value declared. Please do not hesitate to contact us so we can guide you through this process. We will inform you exactly what the requirements for the completion and submission of the 720 Tax Form are. Recipe Of The Month We still have some cold weather to brave, I think, so this tasty Broccoli Soup should go down a treat! Nothing beats the good old homemade variety Ingredients: 1 bunch broccoli 1 onion, chopped 2 cups of potatoes, diced, peeled 2 cloves garlic 4 1/2 cups vegetable stock or water 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1/16 teaspoon nutmeg 4 1/2 cups milk pinch of salt to taste Method: 1. Peel broccoli stems and chop coarsely. Separate florets to make 2 cups and set aside. Coarsely chop remaining florets. 2. In a saucepan, combine chopped stems and florets, onions, potatoes, garlic, stock, thyme, pepper, and nutmeg. Bring to the boil and reduce heat, cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until potatoes are very tender. 3. Meanwhile, steam reserved florets for 5 minutes or until tender-crisp. Set aside. 4. In food processor or blender, puree soup in batches until smooth. Return to pan and add milk, heating through. Do not boil. 5. Divide broccoli florets among 5 bowls and pour soup over each. 6. Serve with crusty warm bread and slurp it all up quickly!

s Now e b e l Ce en & el Cain Th Micha British actor Sir Michael Caine is rightly regarded as a national treasure — but has never lost sight of his humble roots. He was born on March 14, 1933, in Rotherhithe, London, as Maurice Joseph Micklewhite. His father — also Maurice — was a fishmarket porter and his mother Ellen worked as a charlady. Michael left school at 15 and took a series of lowly jobs before joining the British army, where he saw combat in the Korean War. On his return to England, he became fascinated by the theatre and got a job as an assistant stage manager. He adopted the name of Caine on the advice of his agent, taking it from a marquee that advertised the film The Caine Mutiny. Ironically, he made his film debut in a low-budget work called Hell in Korea (1956). In the years that followed, he worked in more than 100 television dramas, with repertory companies throughout England and eventually in the stage hit "The Long and the Short and the Tall". He epitomised the new breed of actor in mid-1960s England — the working-class bloke with glasses and a down-home accent. Amongst his other film credits are Gambit (1966), Funeral in Berlin (1966), The Italian Job (1969), Play Dirty (1969), Battle of Britain (1969), Too Late the Hero (1970), The Last Valley (1971) and Get Carter (1971). Educating Rita (1983) and Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) — for which he won his first Oscar — were highlights of the 1980s.

In 1987, he was awarded the British Variety Club Award for Best Film Actor. More recent triumphs include Little Voice (1998), The Cider House Rules (1999) — which brought his second Oscar — and Last Orders (2001). As of 2018, Caine is ranked the ninth-highest grossing box office star of all time. He has been nominated for an Academy Award for acting every decade for five consecutive decades, and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1992. He was knighted in the 2000 Birthday Honours for his contributions to performance arts. He has been married twice — to Patricia Haines from 1954 to 1958, and to Shakira Caine from 1973 to the present day. He has two children, Natasha and Nikki, lives in Leatherhead, Surrey — where he is patron to the Leatherhead Drama Festival — and is a cricket fan and avid supporter of Chelsea FC. At various times, Michael has owned or co-owned seven restaurants, including the famous Langan's Brasserie in London. He also owns a film production company. In 2001, he was voted fifth in the Orange Film Survey of greatest-ever British actors. He legally changed his name to Michael Caine in 2016. He said in an interview that he'd had too many problems travelling with a passport that didn't match his stage name. He is famous for the catch-phrase "Not a lot of people know that" — but he never actually said it to camera. Peter Sellers said it when he appeared on Parkinson (1972), remarking: "‘Not many people know that’ is my Michael Caine impression. You see, Mike's always quoting facts from the Guinness Book of Records; at the drop of a hat he'll trot one out — followed by ‘Not many people know that!’”

GC tantrum Reality star Gemma Collins reportedly stormed off set during filming of The Big Narstie Show after fellow guest Vinnie Jones insulted her TV series. According to The Daily Mail, former footballer Vinnie, 55, rubbed Gemma up the wrong way when he implied that he was 'too good' to appear alongside her. "The audience loved Gemma and were enjoying her interview with Big Narstie,” said a TV insider. "But the atmosphere turned after Vinnie made comments about Gemma, she clearly felt uncomfortable so stormed off stage. No-one knew if she was even going to come back." However after a 20-minute “cigarette break”, the GC returned.

reception. However, Cowell will continue on as one of ITV’s biggest stars thanks to Britain's Got Talent, which will carry on being made for at least the next five years. A contract signed in December between ITV, Thames and Simon's production company Syco Entertainment threw the future of X Factor in doubt, but made sure to secure BGT until 2024. The X Factor pulled in 19.7 million viewers at its peak, but recent years saw interest in the pop hopefuls wane.

Silent no longer Actress Liz Carr has resigned from her role in the BBC crime drama Silent Witness after eight years of working with the show. The 47-year-old star has left fans devastated after she called it quits at the end of the 23rd series, but says she left the programme on good terms and is now turning her attention to Hollywood roles. Speaking to the BBC Ouch podcast, she revealed exciting plans for the future where she will be working alongside Mark Wahlberg in her first major sci-fi movie. Liz, who played lab assistant Clarissa Mullrey in the tense drama, uses a wheelchair because she suffers from a rare genetic condition. She is one of the BBC’s most prominent disabled actresses, and went on to explain in the podcast that she is proud of the portrayal of disabled people in Silent Witness.

Rio’s rescue Former professional footballer Rio Ferdinand was hitting the bottle on most nights before he struck up a romance with his-now wife, it has been revealed. The football pundit, who lost Rebecca — his first wife and mother to his children — in May 2015 after she had a long battle with breast cancer, says he was in a "bad place" as he dealt with his grief and turned to booze when his kids — Lorenz, 13, Tate, 11, and Tia, eight — went to bed. “I was drinking most nights once the kids had gone to bed. I was in a bad place," Rio told You magazine. In their BBC TV documentary Rio And Kate: Becoming A Step Family, his son Lorenz discussed waking up to find empty beer bottles morning after morning. During interview, Rio revealed he did not know that his children were aware of his drinking habit, and also said how he beat it when he met his new wife, ex-TOWIE star Kate. He said: “I'd shut down but meeting Kate changed that and surely that can only be a good thing." The ex-England ace added: "You feel you’ve been dealt a terrible hand, but your luck can change."

Time called on X Factor The TV series, created by music mogul Simon Cowell, will not air as planned this autumn as ITV bosses have decided to pull the plug early following 2019's disappointing

Bible Statements Some incorrect but funny statements about the Bible, taken from children’s work at a Catholic school In the first book of the Bible, Guinessis, God got tired of creating the world so he took the Sabbath off.

When the three wise guys from the east side arrived they found Jesus in the manager. The Epistels were the wives of the Apostles. One of the Opossums was St Matthew who was also a tax man.

Lots wife was a pillar of salt during the day, but a ball of fire during the night.

Keeping Our Balance With Age • Balancing on one leg • Throwing a ball without having to look at the throwing arm

As we age our movement and agility becomes affected. A lot of my clients assume that their restriction in movement is because their muscles are weaker. Although muscle wastage can be the cause, sometimes it can also be because of balance.

In addition, proprioception allows the body to perform simultaneous actions without stopping to think about each one separately, such as running while dribbling a basketball.

This week I had a client that was telling me how she struggled to get up off the floor from kneeling and blamed her thigh muscles for being weak. After examination I realised she wasn´t lacking in strength in her muscles, it was the communication between the muscles, nerves and brain. This is called proprioception

Injuries and lack of use can impair proprioception, here is one example of how to improve proprioception: Single leg squat 1. Stand with both arms extended in front of the body. 2. Balance on one leg with the non-weight-bearing leg extended forward, with the foot off the ground and as high as comfortable. 3. Squat down as far as possible while keeping the extended leg off the floor. 4. Raise the body to the upright position.

Proprioception refers to the body’s ability to perceive its own position in space. For example, proprioception enables a person to close their eyes and touch their nose with their index finger. Other examples of proprioception include: • Knowing whether feet are on soft grass or hard cement without looking (even while wearing shoes)

A New Generation Of Buyers For those of you who have your properties on the market currently, you will know how frustrating it can sometimes be! It can take a long time and endless viewings before it sells. And when you do finally get an offer, we often come unstuck. Our paperwork, which we thought, up until now, was all OK, turns out to be problematic and complicated. Maybe the boundary lines are wrong, access roads not clear, or that lack of the three vital papers – building licence, end of works certificate, and the licence of first occupation! And then the buyers’ lawyers start bombarding you with what seems like impossible amounts of complicated, expensive documents that you now need to seek in order to complete the sale. And you think – didn’t I do all this when I bought?! In today’s market of buyers who often put paperwork above the serenity and charm of their chosen Spanish property, it is vital to ensure that you have checked your documentation in advance of putting your

property on the market. Even if you think your paperwork is perfect, laws change and it may not be so clearcut. If you need to sell, and you think you might have ‘paperwork problems’, the best thing you can do is to seek independent advice from a local, experienced and level-headed lawyer first. Once you know what you need to do and the costs, add that to your sales price; then, if you don’t have the money or the energy to carry out that process, you can confidently allow any buyer to withhold that amount to rectify the paperwork after the sale. Alternatively, if you are not in a hurry, you can carry out the changes with 10% lodged in your account from the buyers. What is important is not to feel the new generation of buyers will be too much of an obstacle to you selling your property. You just have to do your homework first and have a clear strategy in place for achieving a sale. By Toni Waterman, Unspoilt Andalusia (see advertisement below)

One Year On.. It’s nearly a year since our adventure began and what a year it’s been! Not that we hadn’t experienced living abroad before but this time it was different. We had decided that we were staying in Spain come hell or high water AKA Brexit. I’m not going to give a list of dos and don’ts, I’m simply going to share some of the things I’ve learned on this fast moving life trip.

Being prepared to adapt and change is essential when you move abroad, I think. Getting advice and recommendations from long termers and lifers helps too. But too much time trawling social media for answers can be disheartening. There’s some callous folks out there who enjoy nothing more than a good old slagging match from the comfort of their screen and keyboard. Use your nouse and be discerning with what you read.

Time is and isn’t on your side There’s no point denying it: every day we get a little older and a day closer to our final day on earth. With that in mind, once you get to 55 and, if life is good you’re on your final 25% of your time, it hits you that time really cannot be wasted. Dreams need to be acted on before it’s too late!

If it doesn’t make you happy, let it go…

The great thing about Spain is that once you make the move, there’s definitely a slower pace of life and time. If you’re easily frustrated by delays, procrastination and excuses then this might not be the country for you. If you’re gregarious and don’t mind embracing your builder, cleaner and baker, then you’ll love it. Suddenly, you’ve adopted a whole different life speed. You learn to shrug your shoulders at delays and smile.

Moving to Spain is a huge decision but what if you hate it? What if the summer is too hot, the mosquitoes too vicious and the culture too confusing? Don’t live in misery. You moved once and you can do it again. I have found my little piece of paradise and currently I am content. But if that changes, a new life and destination is only a suitcase away…

With Spain having the highest life expectancy in Europe perhaps time is on your side. A change is as good as a rest The one important lesson I’ve learned this year is that nothing is cast in stone. It takes time to settle and to find just what you want. We rent which some think is great and some don’t, but it’s personal choice. However, despite my initial euphoria at my rental place, you have to experience every season for a year before you know it’s going to suit. Damp houses are the norm but an internal water feature cascading down the walls not quite what I anticipated. Plus a rural location here is an entirely different world. So we loaded up the car, hired a man with a van (Vamos Van: thank you Sentinella!) and moved to somewhere more suitable for our needs.

Dining: Royal Lancaster Style London holds much allure, for many. The different areas – be it East End, West End, North or South Bank of the River Thames and whether ancient, historical, pageantry or more modern is of interest, there is something for all ages. Culture, entertainment and sports are further attractions of the capital, which inspires all year through.

Always good, is a break in the time, if a day visit is planned. If a short trip (maybe romantic) is envisaged, a recommended restaurant could be welcoming. The area around Lancaster Gate, a mid-19th century development, has Kensington Palace and Gardens, plus Hyde Park. Also, Mayfair and Knightsbridge are in the vicinity, so thoughts of some ‘retail therapy’ may arise! I found the 5 star Royal Lancaster London Hotel, with its restaurants and bars, opened during 1967, to be a venue that has great attraction. This multi million pound renovated, 411 bedroom hotel, has views of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, plus the immediate area. Different, outstanding restaurants, are located within the hotel and, depending on cuisine preferences and requirements, each is equally inviting. The Afternoon Tea can be an ‘invitation’, too. The Island Grill Restaurant is very popular and offers dishes for all tastes. From the menu, starters include Crab Salad (Endive, seaweed crisp, oyster mayonnaise) and Wild Mushroom options. Royal

Lancaster Smoked Salmon (Horseradish cream, beetroot, sourdough) has excellent presentation and, with complementing accompaniments, is very flavoursome, making a superb commencement to the dining occasion. Main courses have an array of meats, plus fish choices and more. All beef is organic, British and aged for 35 days.

Grilled Free-Range Chicken (seasoned with English mustard and tarragon) is perfect with French fries and choice of sauces. With grilled tenderstem-brocolli, suggested to accompany, this warrants, ‘Compliments to Chef’ – absolutely! Desserts impress too and Dark Chocolate Fondant (Salted caramel ice cream) does not disappoint, oozing chocolate, with great flavour. High-quality wines/drinks, from worldwide origins have something to satisfy all palates, including some fabulous pairings with cuisine. Gift vouchers are available. Can You Give Buddy A Home? Buddy has been under the care of the Costa Animal Society (CAS) in private kennels for two years because his previous owners could not keep him after an incident with one of their cats. He is a wonderful Alsatian cross male with a sweet and loving personality who only wants to be part of a family again. We think he has been overlooked in the past because of his size and an unfortunate name, which is why we are now calling him Buddy. He is about five years old and gets along well with other dogs but he cannot live with cats. Buddy has lived in a house before so he is house trained and loves being with people. If you would like to meet one of the animals under CAS’s care and are looking to adopt or are willing to foster a pet please contact Kurt and Laura at 95 252 1426 or Fiona through the CAS website www.casnerja.webs.com, or Facebook page \casnerja.

Yay, Spring is in the air, buds are swelling, new shoots are showing, our garden is the perfect place to hang out and in La Vaqueria kitchen there is a frisson of anticipation as we prepare to launch our NEW menu. Either way at La Vaqueria Artisan Cafeteria we pride ourselves on our ability to cater for all. The NEW menu incorporates gluten free, sugar free, lactose free, vegan and vegetarian dishes. Our fab ribs and lemon chicken, milano pork, vegan tajins and share platters offer something for everyone with many more options to mix and match for breakfasts, lunches and snacks served during all opening hours. Husband: Ask the bull if he mates with the same cow all year!! ------------------------------------------------------11 years ago today, my mate Jimmy came running out with tears running down his face shouting “It’s a boy, it’s a boy!” We have never been back to Thailand since! ------------------------------------------------------In just one day during The Battle of Britain, he destroyed 8 German aircraft and 32 Nazi aviators. Easily the worst mechanic the Luftwaffe ever had. ------------------------------------------------------Joe wanted to buy a motorbike. He doesn't have much luck until one day, he comes across a Harley with a 'for sale' sign on it. The bike seems even better than a new one, although it is 10 years old. It is shiny and in absolute mint condition. He immediately buys it, and asks the seller how he kept it in such great condition for 10 years. 'Well, it's quite simple, really,' says the seller, 'Whenever the bike is outside and it's gonna rain, rub Vaseline on the chrome. It protects it from the rain.' And he hands Joe a jar of Vaseline. That night, his girlfriend, Sandra, invites him over to meet her parents. Naturally, they take the bike there. But just before they enter the house, Sandra stops him and says, 'I have to tell you something about my family before we go in. ''When we eat dinner, we don't talk. In fact, the first person who says anything during dinner has to do the

dishes. ''No problem,” he says and in they go. Joe is shocked. Right smack in the middle of the living room is a huge stack of dirty dishes. In the kitchen is another huge stack of dishes. Piled up on the stairs, in the corridor, everywhere he looks, dirty dishes. They sit down to dinner and, sure enough, no one says a word. As dinner progresses, Joe decides to take advantage of the situation. So he leans over and kisses Sandra. No one says a word. So he reaches over and fondles her breasts. Still, nobody says a word. So he stands up, grabs her, rips her clothes off, throws her on the table and screws her right there, in front of her parents. His girlfriend is a little flustered, her dad is obviously livid and her mum horrified when he sits back down, but no one says a word. He looks at her mum..'She's got a great body,' he thinks. So he grabs the mum, bends her over the dinner table, pulls down her panties and screws her every way right there on the dinner table. After she has a big orgasm, he sits down again. Now his girlfriend is furious and her dad is boiling, the Mum is pleasantly beaming. But still, total silence. All of a sudden there is a loud clap of thunder and it starts to rain. Joe remembers his bike, so he pulls the jar of Vaseline from his pocket...Suddenly the father shouted....'I'll do the dishes! ------------------------------------------------------Our ice cream man was found lying on the floor of his van covered with hundreds and thousands. Police say that he topped himself.

Jokes h a ha :) Man goes to the doctor, with a strawberry growing out of his head. Doc says "I'll give you some cream to put on it." ------------------------------------------------------A man takes his Rottweiller to the vet. "My dog is cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?" "Well," said the vet, "Let's have a look at him" So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then he checks his teeth. Finally, he says, "I'm going to have to put him down." "What? Because he's cross-eyed?" "No, because he's really heavy” ------------------------------------------------------Jimmy walks home from school one day and finds his mummy standing in front of the mirror crying. “Whats the matter mummy”? asks Jimmy. “Oh Jimmy, when I look in the mirror all I see is someone fat and ugly, please say something that will make me feel better about myself”. “Well mummy, there is nothing wrong with your eyesight”! ------------------------------------------------------Donald Trump met The Queen, and he said: "As I'm the President, I'm thinking of changing how my country is referred to and I'm thinking that it should be a Kingdom". To which the Queen replies, "I'm sorry Mr Trump, but to be a Kingdom, you have to have a King in charge - and you're not a King." Donald Trump thought a while and then said: "How about a Principality then?" To which the Queen replied "Again, to be a Principality you have to be a Prince and you're not a Prince, Mr Trump".

Trump thought long and hard and came up with "How about an Empire then?" The Queen, getting a little annoyed now replied "Sorry again, Mr Trump, but to be an Empire you must have an Emperor in charge - and you are not an Emperor." Before Trump could utter another word, the Queen said: "I think you're doing quite nicely as a Country". ------------------------------------------------------A woman stopped by unannounced at her son's house. She knocked on the door, then immediately walked in. She was shocked to see her daughter-in-law lying on the couch, totally naked. Soft music was playing, and the aroma of perfume filled the room. "What are you doing?" she asked. "I'm waiting for Gary to come home from work," the daughter-in-law answered. "But you're naked!" the mother-in-law exclaimed. "This is my love dress," the daughter-in-law explained. "Love dress? But you're naked! "Gary loves me to wear this dress," she explained. "It excites him no end. Every time he sees me in this dress, he instantly becomes romantic and ravages me for hours on end. He can't get enough of me." The mother-in-law left. When she got home, she undressed, showered, put on her best perfume, dimmed the lights, put on a romantic CD, and lay on the couch waiting for her husband to arrive. Finally, her husband came home. He walked in and saw her lying there so provocatively. "What are you doing?" he asked. "This is my love dress," she whispered, sensually. "Needs ironing," he said. "What's for dinner?"

itself all the more, knowing an expert like yourself planned it!

ARIES: March 21-April 20 You have a desire to communicate and tell everyone what’s in your heart – make the effort and go with it – call, write, email, post, tweet, broadcast – it’s all good. By the second week of March put some serious thought into your exercise routine and consider whether it’s adequate

LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 If a project that you thought would move quickly is languishing, it’s no cause to worry - sometimes things just take longer than you think they will. It will all come together and click into place. Whilst waiting for the wheels to turn, try to relax, take lunch breaks and get some proper sleep.

TAURUS: April 21-May 21 A great time for Taureans to take an emotional risk, apply for a new job or learn a new skill. Come out of your comfort zone, it’s not that scary, what’s the worst that could happen? By the second week of the month, your emotions are deep and fulfilling, even if faced with a challenge on the 10th and 11th. Stay grounded

SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 Think hard about what it is you most want to achieve, then concentrate on accomplishing it. Your powers of persuasion are strong, and your sense of strategy at a peak. You know how to ask for what you want and how to get it, meaning right now you can really accomplish a lot

GEMINI: May 22-June 21 It may seem boring but you need to give full attention to balancing your budget – you’ll be glad you did and will afterwards feel calm with a sense of accomplishment. A deeper comprehension, or new point of view, will solve puzzles, open doors and release anxieties

SAGITTARIUS: November 22 December 21 If your ideals don’t hold up to questioning, you may need to do just a little adjustment there’s nothing wrong with shifting your ideas. By the 12th/13th March, you’ll be in a really great space, surrounded by friends and generally feeling completely loved

CANCER: June 22-July 22 Your month starts fantastically as your already impressive energy doubles, your intuition intensifies, your emotions flow and romance thrives. You may also be in for a terrific surprise at work. Make sure you stay in good physical shape – get to the pool or those yoga classes, relax and make the most of this time

CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 You’re in the mood for something new new attitudes, new approaches, new experiences, new challenges, new people, new you! Start searching and you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for - maybe something you never thought to look for but which is even better than anything you could have imagined

LEO: July 23-August 23 As you go about your regular routine, perhaps walking to work, cycling to the gym or simply standing and ironing, you may experience an insight, a vision, an idea or inspiration, which you should pay close attention to! Take it very seriously, it’s important and you’re in a good place for taking new steps and starting projects. Follow your instincts

AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 Be sure that you’re being honest with yourself and everyone around you. Little white lies can be more damaging than painful truths, and painful truths are healthier than evasion or hoping it will all just go away. You don’t need to open your heart to everyone in your vicinity but you do need to be straight with folks

VIRGO: August 24-September 22 You work hard and mid-March, you can expect to see how well this pays off. It will feel good to get the recognition you deserve. Get together with friends to do activities you all enjoy. You love dealing with the details that set the tone for these kinds of events and the feeling of creating a truly special experience for the ones you love. You’ll also enjoy the activity

PISCES: February 20 - March 20 Luck is on your side towards mid-month but be aware, on the 10th/11th, there is someone who is jealous of your success. Everything is working out pretty awesomely on the 19th/20th and you should feel happier and more content than ever. Use a light touch in helping friends navigate difficulties in their relationships
