It’s commonly known and accepted that mediums and those who work with the other side see spirits on a regular basis, but how about when it comes to us ordinary folk? Well, since working on The Light book project and engaging in frequent conversations about spirituality with many different types of people, I was astonished to discover just how many of us have seen spirits and ghosts. My own experiences seeing spirits happened within a two year period shortly after a very depressing period of my life, which I now understand as and refer to as my “dark night of the soul.” As a result of that down spell, I was able to open up and awake, allowing more Light to pour into my awareness than ever before. The first time I saw a spirit, I was in between sleep and wakefulness. It must have been around 3 o’clock in the morning and when I sat up in bed to the left of me I saw a large sphere of white Light, dimmer around the edges until it faded into the black of the night. I did not feel scared. In fact, I felt strangely peaceful and at ease, given that something, if not someone was with me in my bedroom. I instinctively knew that this ball of Light was male. A muffled sound seemed to be emanating from him as if he was trying to tell me something. It sounded strikingly similar to the waves of a radio station when not accurately tuned in. Then before long the ball of Light began to back away, drifting further and further away from my bed, out of the door, and into the hallway until I could no longer see it from my position. I lay back down, enthralled and excited about what I had just seen. After that, I saw various other spirits within a six month time frame, including alien forms.

The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a lady. She looked to be in her mid to late thirties and she was very beautiful. She was sitting on the edge of my bed, leaning right in towards me, stroking my forehead lovingly, as if to comfort me. She was see through, like one might expect a ghost to appear. When she noticed that I had opened my eyes and seen her, her expression changed into one of shock and she put her cardigan over her arm, stood up from the bed and fled in the direction of my bedroom door before disappearing through it. As in the ball of Light experience, I did not feel at all scared at the sudden sight of this lady…again, I felt relaxed, calm and at peace. Seeing spirits is something that we all have the ability to do, however it might not always be the right time on our journey. Only God / the Light knows when it is the right time for us to see. One thing I do really understand and wish to share is this: “It’s not seeing is believing. It’s believing is seeing.” In other words, when we truly and wholly believe, we will then see. I have since learned that this is true for all areas of life… I’ll end this month’s editorial by saying thank you and goodbye to Michelle who has worked as a sales person for The Sentinella for the last three and a half years. Proposal studies - A woman is offering lessons in how to propose after being disappointed by her boyfriend's attempt at popping the question. Sam Sheppard, 34, from Monmouthshire, Wales, turned down her boyfriend's proposal which she says felt more like "being asked out for pizza". So she set up a company - The Proposal Expert - to train other men in the art of proposing, reports the Daily Telegraph. "I want to help other people not to feel how I felt. Initially, I felt like he couldn't really care about me to have asked that way, though of course I know that's not true at all," she said. "I ask key questions to put together the pieces of the puzzle - what makes their partner laugh, how they spend their Saturday mornings those little things build up a picture. Never Rush These Things! I was due for an appointment with the gynecologist later in the week. Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor’s office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30 am. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45am. The trip to his office took about 35 minutes, so I didn’t have any time to spare. As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn’t going to be able to make the full effort. So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pijamas, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make sure I was at least presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment. I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in. Knowing the procedure, as I’m sure you do, I hopped up on the table,

looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in Paris or some other place a million miles away. I was a little surprised when the doctor said, “My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven’t we?” I didn’t respond. After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal .. Some shopping, cleaning, cooking. After school when my 6 year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, “Mummy, where’s my washcloth?” I told her to get another one from the cupboard. She replied, “No, I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my glitter and sparkles saved inside it.” Never going back to that doctor again…… ….. never!

De Cotta Law The ownership of a Spanish property by a Limited Company. By De Cotta Law There can be advantages in purchasing or transferring Spanish property into the name of a UK limited company. There can be a significant saving on inheritance tax in Spain where there is no spouse exemption for non residents. Some companies are offering to set up standard structures but where the current tax value of the property is not very high this can be expensive if your particular circumstances are not taken into account. Everybody has different considerations both for their Spanish property and their UK assets and a consultation is advisable using the current tax levels so that you can decide if this structure suits you. It is very important to take tax advice in both countries as you must comply with all of the obligations on fiscal transparency and each individual client has unique circumstances. Incorporation of a company in the UK is cheap and fast. Everything is available online or your lawyers or accountants in the UK can do this for you. You will need a UK accountant immediately so that all and any taxes are paid. An accountant can also advise you of the implications for you in England of owning property in a company name. We have a list of firms that can assist depending on what area you are in. The shares can be held by one person or distributed amongst the family. Subsequent share transfers may have tax implications which are matters for the UK Tax authorities – the HMRC. One of the directors will need to grant a Spanish form power of attorney on behalf of the company. This will be needed to appear before the Spanish notary to buy or transfer the property. It is better to do this as the alternative involves costly translations of the company articles and legalisation which slows down the process.

The UK company will need to apply in Spain for a CIF number (Código Identificación Fiscal) and new rules mean that one of the directors will also have to apply for a number to ensure any tax notifications are received. The UK company will be taking advantage of the Double taxation relief treaty and is therefore not liable for corporation tax in Spain. Chiropody At Rumours Hair Salon With summer approaching, it’s time to show off our feet. Are you concerned about how your feet look and feel? Common foot problems can be resolved, such as hard skin, callus, corns -- not to mention that dreaded fungal nail infection (identified by thick, discoloured nails often known as ‘golden toe’). It can be difficult in Spain to know how to deal with these problems or where to get help and advice, but you don’t have to suffer unnecessarily. All these conditions are treatable, and as a UK-qualified chiropodist working at Rumours Hair Salon every Thursday, I would be glad to assist in giving you advice and helping you get healthy, happy feet. Corns and callus/hard skin can cause pain and discomfort. As we walk around barefoot or in sandals in the summer, the skin can become

dry and heels in particular can become cracked or hard with callus which is hard to remove using a pumice alone. Fungal nail infection is a common complaint which is easily treated, although it can take up to 12 months to resolve. Why delay in getting it treated? Infected nails are unlikely to heal themselves and will more than likely worsen with time. Nails become difficult to cut due to increased thickness, and this can spread to the other nails. For some people, this causes embarrassment, but I am not embarrassed by any foot related problems you may have, so why not share them with me. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have it checked. Recipe Of The Month Almond Fudge Crumbles These wonderful little biscuits are quick and simple to make and just melt in your mouth. Makes 24 biscuits. ingredients 200g/7oz plain flour pinch salt Â˝ tsp bicarbonate of soda 100/4oz unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 100g/4oz light muscovado sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 tsp almond extract 75g/3oz flaked almonds, broken into pieces 50g/2oz vanilla fudge, finely diced For the topping 25g/1oz flaked almonds 25g/1oz vanilla fudge, chopped Icing sugar for dusting Method 1. Sift the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda in

a bowl. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. 2. Add the sugar, egg, almond extract, flaked almonds and fudge, mix to a fairly firm dough. 3. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and roll into a cylinder shape 23cm/9inches long. Cut the dough into 24 pieces. 4. Place the rounds, slightly apart, on 2 lightly greased baking trays. 5. For the topping, scatter over crumbled almonds and chopped fudge, pressing down slightly to make sure they stick. 6. Bake at Gas 5/180c for about 12 minutes until the biscuits are turning golden at the edges. Leave on the baking tray for 5 minutes before removing to a wire cooling rack. Serve dusted with icing sugar.

Welcome to our new feature bought to us by Tina from Happy Hounds. abandoning your animal is a crime This is a difficult subject to discuss, but one which I think does need addressing, especially as the laws have now changed, making it easier to travel with your pets. The financial crisis has affected us all -- and not just in this country. The number of animals being dumped has soared, but the rescue societies have also been badly affected as people no longer have as much money to give in donations or in support of their fund-raising events. They have been overwhelmed by the number of animals for which they are asked to provide care, and as the number of people moving to this country has decreased it is much more difficult to find new homes for these animals. Caring for them until a new home is found costs money.

big decision and you need to consider this for the life of your animal: a dog or cat can live for more than 10 years. This is a big commitment. We are in an EU country and, as in the UK, there are laws for the protection of animals. One of these is to prosecute and fine for the abandonment of an animal; the fine can be anything between 2,000 – 30,000€ and the Spanish authorities are quite happy to enforce this. I will follow up this article with more information on the new laws for travelling and for the protection of animals, also giving information about the departments responsible for dealing with complaints when animals are abandoned or mistreated. When I first came to Spain, I did not realise that it is owners of all nationalities who leave animals to fend for themselves.

While you are away on holiday or a weekend break, your dogs live in our house alongside our dog.

These animals are not just the ones people have taken on over here, but some have actually come to Spain with their owners but have then been left behind. I cannot understand how anyone could believe it is ok to abandon an animal. When you give a home to a dog or cat they are your permanent responsibility -- not just for the time when it suits you. People’s circumstances do change, though, and some who leave their animals behind do not always want to; they do try to find new homes for them. If you are in this situation and have to call any of the rescue societies, give them time to find a place for your animal; calling them a week -- or a day -- before you leave is nowhere near enough notice. New Mum in Town Baby girl was crawling, sitting and pulling herself up. Of course that meant that I was getting fitter at long last. She even started to clap on an eventful evening at La China! She had got six teeth and was liking food more, but she still loved her teta... and all I could say was “ouch.” Challenging as it had been, Jazmin was now in her own room but not yet sleeping through. As long as she was using Mama as a chupete, noone would ever have a full night’s sleep again – it would be good to put a stop to this somehow. Fast forward to January 8. A big milestone. My baby girl's first birthday. I just cannot believe that she is one already, and that I am preparing her first birthday party! Needless to say, emotions are high! And I don't just mean stress... The checklist - baby dressed as a fairy, baked baby-friendly cake and cupcakes, nibbles for mums, goodie bags, pink Minnie decorations, balloons, Pocoyo party music and the ball pit...ding dong, here we go... Jazmin has five little friends over and she spends the best part of the afternoon glued to me and crying - it's her birthday and she'll cry

if she wants to, I suppose. Got to save this party... after the momumental success -- present wise -- at Christmas and Reyes, it would surely work again today. Jazmin has perfected the surprise gasp when opening presents and provides much entertainment, and she seems to relax a little once she has seen yet more new toys. Phew.. and everyone is having a blast; dare I say mums more than children?? Two rounds of happy birthday (Spanish and English of course), the kiddies sit to have their snacks and Jazmin takes advantage of the ball pit. Without all the hype, she is back to herself - seems she was just overwhelmed. Then it happens...the big news...wait for it.... I'm a proud Mummy being trigger happy with the camera when WOWSERS - my baby girl takes her first steps. What an occasion, what a moment - I couldn't be more proud and I begin to feel overwhelmed by it all myself. My baby girl is just awesome, and certainly knows how to pick her moments - like mother like daughter, hey! Now it won't be long until she is walking properly...watch out poochies, watch out Mummy -- life is about to be turned upside down. Again! I cannot wait.More next month

Most people are pretty good at getting their civil residency from the national police and are keen to show that they are not just passing trade. However, not everyone is aware that there is more to residency than your sheet of green paper (civil resident). For the fiscal residency you need a certificate from the tax office and for this, you have to declare your income tax in Spain every year (Form 100). Civil residency is, in fact, pretty useless when it comes to financial matters. For example, when capital gains or inheritance tax is due, if you can’t prove you are a fiscal resident then you can end up paying non-resident taxes and there are big differences between these and resident ones. For eg; if you live in Andalucia, you are a married couple with a house valued at 200.000€ and have both names on the deed, when one of you dies, if the remaining spouse cannot prove fiscal residency then they will be charged around 9,833€ in inheritance tax. Puente Don Manuel

Puente Don Manuel or The Bridge of Don Manuel, is a Hamlet belonging to Alcaucin and is situated close to La Viñuela village. The eponymous bridge is very picturesque with four arches, surrounded by very green trees and horses grazing in a field below. At one end of the bridge is the local bar/restaurant and a shop and the other end is the small church. The Hamlet used to be a traveller’s resting place before the long climb up to the Boquete de Zafarraya, the entrance to Granada Province. These days the area is known locally by expats as ‘Little England’, not the actual Hamlet, but further up at the Cruce de Periana crossroads where you can turn up towards Periana or down t o w a r d s Venta Baja. This area is full of English shops, bars, hairdressers, boutiques and even a beauty salon and on Tuesdays there is an English Farmers Market. The Hamlet is situated just 14 kilometres from

the coast and 40 kilometres from Malaga, at an altitude of 225 metres. The drive there takes in stunning views past the reservoir at Viñuela and up towards Zafarraya where the Boquete cuts into the skyline like giants bosoms! Looking up towards it the road looks like a model railway and the traffic like tiny trains. As magnificent as this view is it can get even better! On the return journey from Granada Province where the land, although high, if flat! The view as you drive through the Boquete, at an altitude of 1,100 metres, is awesome, with the Axarquia unfolding in front of your eyes, the villages, mountains, lake and sea each competing for attention. Be careful as you make the ascent as your ears can pop!

Smarter than the average bear.....

Two unusual messages of thanks involved a degree of artistic endeavour and the results can be seen here. Almost two years ago, one of their customers, Iain Turnbull, was taken ill during his meal and had to be taken care of until the ambulance arrived. Fortunately, one of the staff there has worked with the ambulance service and was able to make him comfortable, also collecting background information in Spanish to give to the paramedics when they arrived. Since returning to the UK, Iain has not been able to get back to his regular work and during his convalescence, started to paint for the first time. The painting depicts the view from

Yogi certainly was and it seems that either he or one of his family of admirers dined in Cantueso recently. Yogi’s table had the new Para Picar menu and the diners were evidently so pleased that they decided to leave this unusual thank-you card in the kids’ playroom. (Well, where else?) One of his back legs was broken and his nails were so long they were cutting into the pads of his feet. At the time he wasn’t strong enough to have his leg operated on as he was in such a poor state. Milo has now been nursed back to health and although his leg is still stiff, it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. He runs up and down the hills just as fast as the other dogs. He is a bodequero breed which is similar to a Jack Russell. He was most likely born in late 2008 or early 2009, stands about 33cm in height and is about 44cm in length. He is very affectionate and would make a lovely family pet. She turns and starts to walk away and with complete confidence, says over her shoulder, 'I assume it's to hang your trousers on.' ------------------------------------------------------------A 7 year old and a 4 year old are upstairs in their bedroom. 'You know what?' says the 7 year old, 'I think it's about time we started swearing.' 'Ok' the 4 year old, agrees with enthusiasm.. The mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 7 year old what he wants for breakfast. 'Oh, s*** mum, I don't know, I suppose I'll have some Coco Pops' WHACK!! He flew out of his chair, tumbled across the kitchen floor, got up, and ran upstairs crying his eyes out. She looked at the 4 year old and asked with a stern voice, ' And what do YOU want for breakfast, young man?' 'I don't know,' he blubbers, 'but it won't be f****** Coco Pops'.

One dark night outside a small town in Minnesota, a fire started inside the local chemical plant and in a blink of an eye it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles around. When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company president rushed to the fire chief and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in the centre of the plant. They must be saved. I will give $50,000 to the fire department that brings them out intact." But the roaring flames held the firefighters off. Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now $100,000 to the fire department who could bring out the company's secret files. From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby Norwegian rural township volunteer fire company composed mainly of Norwegians over the age of 65. To everyone's amazement, that little run-down fire engine roared right past all the newer sleek engines that were parked outside the plant. Without even slowing down it drove straight into the middle of the inferno. Outside, the other firemen watched as the Norwegian old timers jumped off right in the middle of the fire fought it back on all sides. It was a performance and effort never seen before. Within a short time, the Norske old timers had extinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200,000, and walked over to personally thank each of the brave fire fighters. The local TV news reporter rushed in to capture the event on film, asking their chief, "What are you going to do with all that money?" "Vell," said Ole Larsen, the 70-year-old fire chief, "Da first thing ve gonna do is fix da brakes on dat Bloody truck!"
