I’d like to start this month’s editorial but letting our loyal readers know that there may soon be employment positions available at The Sentinella. I might be based in the USA right now, but as the owner of the magazine, I’m still present in spirit, and probably in person again soon for a short break! In other news, I’m now a married woman! Have to admit, it initially felt a tad strange to be a wife, but now, a couple of weeks on, I’m relishing the sacred loving union between Terry, my husband, and I. Our rooftop wedding went fantastically and my supportive parents came all that distance to watch their youngest daughter tie the knot. It was such a magical day all round and we didn’t want it to end. We finished with a evening soak in the hot tub and a glass of Limoncello! What’s more, I felt the beautiful love that some of you sent our way as we left behind singledom to unite as One Heart. We’ve taken a few days here in Sun Valley, as a “mini-moon” and hoping to get away to Hawaii in January for a proper honeymoon. I’ll keep you posted on all the news and goings-ons from here.

Strange News Boy Birth A two-year-old boy has undergone an operation to 'give birth' to his own parasitic twin. Doctors in China were left stunned after discovering the toddler was carrying an undeveloped foetus inside his stomach. Xiao Feng arrived at hospital with a severely bloated stomach and was rushed to the operating room with breathing difficulties. The unborn foetus, which took up two thirds of the boy's stomach, measured 20cm in width and had also formed a spine and limbs, as well as fingers and toes. Experts believe that the parasitic twin would have killed Xiao if it had been left untreated. Monkey Business A US news presenter had to show her professionalism when a baboon grabbed her breast during a live TV report. Sabrina Rodriguez of Fox 40 news was doing a report from the Lodi Grape Festival in Sacramento, California, on why baboons like grapes. But the baboon, called Mickey, got a little too friendly and grabbed her right breast as she was doing a live piece to camera. Ms Rodriguez did her best to laugh it off, saying: "He's trying to cop a feel a little bit." Mickey turns to the camera and opens his mouth to give a wide grin - but keeps his hand where it is. So with a baboon's hand on her chest, Ms Rodriguez closed her segment saying: "Join us soon when we'll be learning a bit about why baboons like grapes."

Fantastic !! Dads Response I took my dad to the shopping centre the other day to buy some new shoes (he is 66). We decided to grab a bite at the food court. After Pixarâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Cars, Disney now has aimed sky high and made a film about Planes. Unfortunately the effort nose dives from the opening frame. Dusty Crophopper (Dane Cook) always wanted to be a racing plane and win the Wings Across the World tournament. However, in reality he ends up being a crop duster far away from his dreams. He fails to qualify the first round despite support from his fuel truck friend Chug (Brad Garrett) and Dottie (Teri Hatcher). By chance he gets a second chance at the title to compete against the best entries from around the world that includes Indian Ishani (Priyanka

Chopra), Bulldog (John Cleese), Spanish El Chupacabra (Carlos Alazraqui), and the crowd favorite Ripslinger (Roger Craig Smith). Carlos Alazraqui does a fine job with his Spanish voiceover and shares a fun camaraderie with Cook. If you intend to take your kids to watch it, then they might learn a lesson or two. There are ample morals and veiled messages in the film. Animation is average, but a few scenes do impress. The plot is flimsy and the 3D unnecessary. In a day and age where a good script has become the life line for a film, Planes goes back in time and gives us an uninspiring tale. Everything is super predictable. Rrrrrrrumours Has It... There is a New Hairstylist In Town Phet, a superb hairstylist Leaving school at 18, Phet initially trained with several hairdressers in Bangkok. She was then further trained by the world famous TIGI Academy, attending many of their courses at least once a year. She has also trained in Hong Kong and Singapore. Phet regularly styled hair for television presenters, pop stars and even a member of the Thai royal family (a princess). She also appeared on Thai national television demonstrating her art. She then went on to work for the premier hairstylists of Thailand (Glammer Education) who teach hairdressing throughout Asia. Phet soon became one those trainers and numbers many former pupils among her friends, who now have their own salons nationally. She also went to Ramkhamhaeng University in Bangkok and obtained a degree in politics. In England, Phet became a salon owner then

trained (several times) at the great Vidal Sassoon Academy and TIGI, again in London, and still annually attends Hair International in the Excel Exhibition Centre, London, meeting many old friends from across the world. She has certificates in English Language and is now a British citizen, holding dual passports. There are a number of reasons why you might be experiencing shoulder pain, which include: • poor posture • frozen shoulder – a painful condition that reduces normal movement in the joint and can sometimes prevent movement in the shoulder altogether

Treating shoulder pain

• rotator cuff disorders – the rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint and help to keep it stable • shoulder instability – where the shoulder is unstable and has an unusually large range of movement • acromioclavicular joint disorders – conditions that affect the acromioclavicular joint, which is the joint at the top of the shoulder • osteoarthritis in the shoulder joints • a broken (fractured) bone, such as a fracture of the humerus (upper arm bone) or broken collarbone

Depending on the cause of your shoulder pain, you may need further treatment, such as: • physiotherapy • injections of corticosteroids – a type of medication that contains hormones • surgery (in some cases)

In some cases, pain in the shoulder isn't caused by a problem in the shoulder joint, but by a problem in another area, such as the neck, that is felt in the shoulder and upper back.

There are things you can do yourself to treat shoulder pain, including using painkillers such as ibuprofen, or ice packs to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. Avoiding activities that may aggravate your symptoms will also help.

In most cases, shoulder disorders improve over time if treatment advice is followed. when to see your gP You should see your GP if your pain is the result of an injury, it's particularly bad, or there is no sign of improvement after a couple of weeks. Shoulder pain can be a long-term problem: up to half of people still have symptoms after 18 months. A correct diagnosis will ensure you receive the right treatment.

New Mum In Town - Back To Work Right, so it is hot and we are still getting on the beach..it's October. Is this normal?! How awesome is this weather! Whilst my friends back home are chilling in 5 degree temperatures, I'm enjoying the sunshine and still wearing my summer clothes (no intention to cause jealousy at all, honest...). Jazmin is doing great and she is really enjoying nursery. She no longer waits to say bye to me sniff sniff! She also has a carpeta at nursery, which means that every day (at 11am), she and her new little friends all sit around a table together and do an activity (worksheet, stories, colouring, manualidades etc). The 'teacher' sits with the younger ones to help them hold a pencil and do the work properly of course, but I think it's really great. Jazmin loves colouring and I am sure she loves 'ficha time'. I definitely love bringing home any of her work. I am one proud Mama! Her Spanish vocab is really growing too, rivalling her English; how lucky is she...bilingual from day one! However, back to this month and it's time for Mami (me) to go back to work and start earning some euros (however little that may be in this current climate). Here we go... The time has come...the time for me to get back to work. A million thoughts pace my (somewhat fried) baby brain... 'It's Jazmin's first week at nursery. Will going back to work be too much for her?'...'Will Jazmin be OK without me?'....oh, stop it. Ever the fretting Mama, but just get over it! Jazmin will be fine. She is safe. She is loved....that is the mantra I repeat as I begin the car journey to day one (well, afternoon) back at the office (meaning, classroom at the language school where I have always loved to teach). Slightly dramatic you may say....but, fellow Mums will back me; right? I have reached school and I couldn't be more pleased with my 'timetable'. I have got three hours of back to back four-year-olds twice a week (don't want to over-exert myself of course!) which means no exams, no homework and no extra marking - yippee; thank you muchly! The bell sounds, and the first day tears await me. But I am now a pro with crying children so this will be no problem. I just need to stop checking that little J is ok...her Papa has got her, she is fine: relax!!! Breathe...it's time to teach English! Well, well, well...there were no tears, no fears -- just a fun first afternoon back. The kids were great and responsive, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have surprised myself and I feel like a little piece of the old me has re-surfaced. My advice to new mums - when the time is right, and you get the right offer, take it - it will do you and your baby good! I have been mobile and time checking all after-

noon, is Miss J ok? It's half past six. Gosh, Jazmin must be desperately missing me. I must get to her asap..it has been three hours since I last saw her after all...I received a text which said that all was okey dokey (two hours ago!!). But, surely, I am needed...?? Seems I am not! Although Miss J came bounding up to me and gave me a full-on bear hug (and didn't let go), everything (not counting the left-over food or littered floor) was in order and right as rain. As we sat in our local, we toasted the occasion with a glass of vino (rude not to) and I was able to reflect...I have the most gorgeous baby girl, a loving family, I live in a place where the sun is always shining (and the sangria flowing) and the beach is on my doorstep. I'm healthy and I have a job I enjoy... Seriously, I think I am the most fortunately, blessed New Mum Brit in the Costa del Sol :)

Travelling 46 kilometres to the east of Málaga we discover Torrox, which is reputed to have the Best Climate In Europe! There are two distinct areas of Torrox, Torrox Costa which boasts 3 kilometres of beach front with a beautiful Paseo Marítimo to stroll along and Torrox Pueblo, 4 kilometres up the hill, which like all the Pueblo´s Blanco´s of the Axarquía, has retained its Moorish heritage with steep winding streets and archways. Torrox Costa has a lighthouse (Faro) and next to it is a Roman Necropolis which is now protected by a look out point with a glass floor so that you can see the graves without disturbing them. Even if you didn´t realise there was anything of interest to see under the floor this mirador stretches out to the sea and is an interesting place to visit in its own right. The Paseo Marítimo has lots of bars and chiringuitos and is a great place to catch the rays even on a winters day. The Pueblo, sheltered as it is by both the Sierra Almijara and Sierra Tejeda mountains, is living proof of its claim of el Mejor Clima de Europa! You can often sit in the main square and partake of a cool libation while Malaga and Marbella are hidden by grey clouds and rain! Torrox is part of the Axarquía route of Sun and Wine and on the last Sunday before Christmas

it holds its Migas Fiesta. If you have never sampled Migas before then this is the time to take your first taste. It’s a traditional dish for harvest workers and is made from stale bread, olive oil, water and garlic and any left over meat available. During this festival the dish is cooked in large frying pans throughout the village and whilst waiting to eat you can listen to music and watch the locals dancing in the village square. The Mudejar style church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación can be found in the centre of the village and as with most churches it is so huge that its difficult to see the bell tower without bending over backwards! Although if you stand in the main square opposite the town hall you can just catch a glimpse of the bell tower to your right! On the way out of the village down to the coast there is a large Ermita y Convento Nuestra Señora de las Nieves which was constructed in the XVIII century and was founded by the Friars of the Order of San Francisco. As well as being used for religion it was also a storeroom for fruit!

One of my biggest lessons in this lifetime is all about judging others and being judged. Much of this stems from my past life experience being beheaded in front of an audience after speaking something deemed by the authorities at the time as an untruth. However, I know that my fear of being judged largely comes from the fact that I once had a tendency to judge others. I now understand that what we experience in our outer world, we first experience in our inner world and that everything is a mirror. The universe set me up with a perfect opportunity to learn this judgment lesson by pairing me with Terry. Due to the 38-year age difference, we were met by judgment from the very beginning. People would give us funny looks as we dined together in restaurants, or as we held hands walking along the beachfront. People I told would sneer and say hurtful comments such as, “Are you only with him for his money?” or “He’s probably only with you for the sex.” I soon learned to reflect these comments and judgments away. After all, he and I knew the truth and any other thoughts were not ours, they belonged only to the people who said them. Those who said or wondered, “Are you only with him for his money?” were really the people who would do such a thing themselves. Any worries about what other people thought of me swiftly dispersed after I had spent some time with Terry. And so when I did my first speaking engagement I had shed a lot of the fear about what other people thought of me. I was able to get outside of “me” and “my worries” and instead focus my attention on the audience’s needs. Again, it all happened in Divine timing, as everything does. Now I’m aware I need to master the lesson of not judging those who judge. We all are here to learn our lessons. I’m convinced that we get to experience the very things that we judge, so be careful!

Recipe Of The Month Oven Roasted Tomatoes with Feta Cheese Roasting tomatoes really intensifies the flavour; this is a wonderful way of using tomatoes while they’re at their best. Serve this as a starter for a meal with some crusty bread. ingredients 4 tbsp olive oil 500g/1lb ripe fresh tomatoes 1 tsp dried thyme salt& freshly ground black pepper 225g/8 oz Feta cheese few fresh basil leaves Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 240C/Gas 9. Oil a shallow roasting tin with 2 tbsp of the oil. 2. Cut the tomatoes in half lengthways and lay them cut-side up in the tin. 3. Sprinkle over the thyme and some salt and pepper and roast for 15 minutes. 4. Reduce the oven temperature to 150C/Gas 2 and roast for a further 1½ hours until they have shrivelled to about half their original size and concentrated in flavour. Leave to cool. 5. Arrange the tomatoes and the feta among four plates and drizzle over the remaining olive oil. 6. Sprinkle with a little more salt and some black pepper and the basil leaves before serving.

It has a long proboscis with a small poison barb on the top, which looks like a small harpoon. Some collectors pick up cone snails and the snails react to that – they stab the person with their deadly proboscis. The cone snail’s poison (called apparatus) works on the nervous system.

One drop of venom from this snail is powerful enough to kill 20 people. The Marbled Cone Snail is also known as the Cigarette Snail and is one of the most poisonous animals on the planet. It has this nickname because allegedly, a human victim would only have enough time to smoke one cigarette if injected with this toxin. Then they would die. Roughly 30 humans to date have succumbed to the poison of the Marbled Cone Snail. There is currently no antivenom. The only treatment is to keep the person alive long enough for the venom to wear off. Typically, this snail doesn’t use its powerful toxin on humans. Instead, it saves it for unsuspecting fish, worms and molluscs. There are more than 500 different species of Marbled Cone Snails. Thank goodness the summer is over - no more swimming in the sea for me!

Rastro Old & New Country Market A new ‘Rastro Old & New Country Market’ has evolved as a result of a ‘pop-up shop’ idea which worked well last year at Camping Bar Restaurante La Vinuela, and now the demand to expand the idea is taking place each Wednesday from 10am to 3pm. The location of the market is adjacent to the Camping Bar/Restaurante -- known to some as the ‘Big Yellow Building’ -- in a great setting overlooking Lake Vinuela in the heart of the Axarquia. A core of experienced traders attends regularly with a further mix of vendors bringing a different selection of goods to spice things up. The Camping Bar/Restaurante provides a great 'menu del dia' especially for the market for 7€, which allows visiting the market to be more of a day event -- especially as the

market has a later start and finish time than others so it m a k e s sense to stay around for some lunch! The stalls themselves can be found down to the side of the Camping Bar/Restaurante on the campsite itself, which is an established and pretty area.
