For those readers who are wondering, I decided to take the incredible opportunity offered by the Universe and house-sit the beautiful villa in Alhaurin el Grande. So I am writing this editorial from a very pleasant conservatory. The sunlight is streaming through the windows, every now and again a breeze enters and ruffles my hair, and when I look up, rather than seeing a wall, I now see majestic mountains rising in the distance and olive trees shaking their finery in the wind. Alongside looking after the house, I am also looking after a cat, called Shamal. She is 20years-old and a very rare breed; a Dilmun desert cat from Bahrain. Unfortunately, she has kidney problems and sometimes she struggles to breathe. In fact, the vet has said she’ll be surprised if Shamal lasts more than another few months. I feel so blessed and grateful to be looking after Shamal during her last days, and helping her pass into the Light when the time comes. There is another household pet too; a gecko that lives in the conservatory. I’ve only seen him once so far, but I know he’s around as sometimes I spot gecko droppings on the floor! In ancient Native American culture a gecko is a sign of good luck and prosperity. I love the signs that Spirit sends via nature. Just yesterday, after dropping a good friend off at the airport, I stepped outside and three pure white Egrets took to the sky and circled the villa three times. Apparently that’s a sign of dreams coming true. My latest big book project is called The Light and although it is taking longer than I had hoped to launch, for me, it’s a lesson in patience. All net profit from the book sales is going straight to eight charities, and my dream is to raise at least one million dollars. So if that dream comes true, however long it takes, I will be very happy. There are some amazing transformational leaders contributing to The Light, in,

The mother-of-five discovered the man after hearing ‘animal-like noises’ in the ceiling above her bedroom. Upon investigation, it turned out to be the local delicacy ‘surstromming’, a notoriously foul-smelling dish traditionally served at autumn parties. super streaker - A streaker who disrupted an American football game in Florida set a new precedent for organised naked crime. He ran onto the pitch wearing only a red Spiderman mask to hide his face. The man managed to bob and weave over the field, eluding security guards, before jumping over two perimeter fences. It was then that he took his stunt to a new level when a getaway car arrived at his side in the nick of time. The mystery streaker jumped into the car, which promptly sped off, making good his escape. A local station TV station has taken on the mission of uncovering the man behind the mask, asking locals: "Do you know these cheeks?"

Consequently, when drivers take the wrong decision, the number of accidents resulting in death or injury is tripled, as figures show that 73% of accidents are caused by drivers making a bad decision, compared to 27% in which they acted correctly. This is the main conclusion of the study “Decision-making when driving” in which 174,000 accidents resulting in injury or death have been analysed. This means that in the last 4 years, nearly 130,000 accidents resulting in injury or death could have been avoided if the drivers involved had been able to assess the dangers on the road correctly. The most common errors are due to drivers being distracted, joining roads incorrectly, turning badly, illegally overtaking and not maintaining a safe distance between the vehicle in front. As for types of road, Línea Directa’s report confirms that conventional roads are the most dangerous, due to the fact that 76% of accidents take place on them. On dual carriageways and motorways, the most common types of accident caused by driver error are rear-end collisions and vehicle crashes, mainly due to sudden braking and the switching of lanes. Driver Profile Men aged between 18 and 24 who have held a driving licence for less than two years and the over 65s are those most likely to be involved in accidents due to driver error. The former because they have a lower perception of risk and the latter because they have lost certain skills. On the other hand, women aged between 35 and 64, who have held a driving licence for 15 years or more are those who take the best decisions.

Wincham International Limited Don’t let your Dream Home get swept away by Spanish Inheritance Tax Most owners are not aware that their beneficiaries and their estate may have to pay inheritance tax both in their country of domicile and in Spain. Spanish law dictates that the beneficiary of your estate must pay tax on the amount that they inherit. The level of tax payable is not a fixed rate and is determined by the relationship to the deceased, their residency status and their existing wealth in Spain. In addition the estate of the deceased could be liable to pay inheritance tax in their country of domicile. For example if the deceased was UK domiciled and had worldwide assets in excess of £325,000 then the estate could also be liable for inheritance tax at 40% payable in the UK. What are the options to minimise the liability? Unfortunately it is common practice for lawyers and tax advisers who are not conversant with both jurisdictions to advise based on their own knowledge and this is often insufficient. We have known of cases in the past where property owners in Spain have been advised to prepare a Spanish Will to avoid the tax. In fact this does not avoid any tax and it is unnecessary to have a separate Will in Spain. The tax is paid by the person inheriting the asset and therefore the existence of a Will does nothing to minimise this. There are also times when the existence of a separate Will in Spain complicates matters and increases legal costs. It is vitally important that all British owners of Spanish property have a UK Will dealing with their worldwide assets and therefore no other Will is required in any other country. Another misconception is that by simply taking out a mortgage on the property it will reduce the tax liability on death. It is true that the value of the asset will be reduced by the amount outstanding on the mortgage however, the Banks often insist that life policies are taken out which pay off the mortgage on death and the beneficiaries are back to inheriting the whole of the unencumbered property. Even if there is not a life policy then there is a substantial debt outstanding which will have to be paid before the property can be transferred. Finally the most dangerous option that is put forward is to transfer the property to your children or beneficiaries now. The Spanish tax is payable not only on the inheritance of a property but also the gifting of a property so the tax would be paid sooner rather than later. Also once the property is in the names of your beneficiaries then you have to be able to trust that they will not dispose or charge your asset and leave you homeless. Issues of insolvency, divorce and your beneficiary pre-deceasing you can also add complications to what appeared to be a simple transaction. Jellyfish are rarely aggressive towards humans; they will only sting if brushed against or trapped. They swim by contracting and expanding their bodies. A group of jellyfish is called a 'smack'.

Most jellyfish do not have a brain, but their strong nervous system can detect light, odour and external stimuli and generates appropriate response. The turritopsis nutricula jellyfish is, to all intents and purposes, immortal â&#x20AC;&#x201C; after growing from a polyp into adulthood and reproducing, it can transform itself back into a polyp and begin the whole process again. The most poisonous species of jellyfish is the Irukandji jellyfish. On being stung, the victim will suffer symptoms including nausea, vomiting, cramps, high blood pressure and severe pain, sometimes leading to death.

They can be white, pink, yellow, orange, red, blue, green, mulor ticoloured completely transparent. They can measure as little as one inch in diameter or as much as four metres; some species have tentacles 100 feet long.

They are made up of 95 per cent water, and need to be surrounded by it constantly or they die. Jellyfish venom is intended to paralyse its victims. Box jellyfish have 24 eyes. A type of box jellyfish, commonly known as sea wasp (scientific name Chironex fleckeri) causes 20-40 deaths every year in the Philippines. The largest jellyfish in the world can grow to more than 120 feet long. It is called the Lion’s Mane jellyfish and lives in the Arctic Sea, the North Atlantic Sea and Northern Pacific Ocean. In countries such as Japan, Korea and China, it is considered a delicacy to eat jellyfish.

Are You Getting The Big Picture?

Sat.Co Answers you always wanted to know but were too shy to ask. In TV technology, size really does matter. You know what it’s like when you buy your new flat screen TV from one of the stores in Spain. Get it home, switch it on for the first time and the picture will not fit the screen. What’s going on? It always did on the old TV we had. Your partner is upset after spending all this money. “There’s something wrong with it; take it back. There must something wrong with the picture valve or, I know – ring Sat. Co – they should know why the picture is all wrong!” So... let us restore marital bliss to this once happy home. Widescreen TVs have been available since the late 1980s, although at that time there were very few broadcasts in widescreen apart from some feature films. 16.9 widescreen and 4.3 refer to the dimensions or size of the picture to be viewed. It just means 16 across the top and 9 down the side. When the video content is in wide screen format – and more importantly, the satellite receiver and TV are set to 16.9 widescreen format, the picture fits the screen perfectly. Everybody is the right size, height and build. “Aha! Fixed it,” you think. Not just yet, though – try changing channel! ITV3... another re-run of Colombo. “Wait a minute.. Peter Falk was never that fat and short.” Colombo is now in the old 4.3 format. Just remember 4 along the top

and 3 down the side. The TV is now pulling the picture from the sides to fit the screen. We could set the TV satellite receiver or DVD player to 4.3 format to get Peter Falk back to his usual size and shape, but this would leave a big black band down the left and right side. Unfortunately there is no magic answer to this small problem. Peter Falk will have to remain shorter and fatter if we want to fill the screen. Many films now are in 21.9 format and when viewed on your new flat screen TV, leave a black band top and bottom, but at least everybody is the right shape. By using the zoom button on your new flat screen TV it is possible to zoom into more and more of the centre of the picture in an effort to fill the screen with the picture, but it loses picture content from the sides as well as top and bottom. At least the people are the right shape! If your TV is one of the old 4.3 format ones, you may have noticed that you are losing some of the bigger picture. For instance, the credits of the film are lost to the sides or you only get half the score of the big game off to the top left of the screen. This is usually when the satellite receiver or DVD player is set to widescreen. The answer is to change the satellite receiver or DVD player to 4.3; now, the picture fits the screen but the characters are thinner and taller. Still confused? Then why not visit one of our weekly demonstrations, where we explain this and other modern TV technology issues.

Recipe Of The Month Five spice roast chicken drumsticks

• 2 tbsp grated fresh root ginger • 1 tbsp Shaoxing rice wine or dry sherry • 2 tbsp light soy sauce • 2 tsp five-spice powder • 2 tbsp honey For the chicken • 1kg/2lb chicken drumsticks, skin on Preparation method 1. For the marinade, place all of the marinade ingredients into a large bowl and stir to combine. Add the chicken and cover the bowl with cling film, then place into the fridge to marinate for at least 15-20 minutes, ideally overnight. 2. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

New Mum in Town I have recently experienced the wonder that is pregnancy and childbirth, and I am currently living the reality of being a new mum, in a foreign country. When I was pregnant, I decided to keep a diary of my new life with my new baby…now, each month, I will share this magical journey with you. I thought I would start from my last day as a mum-to-be. 7th January 2012. I’ve recovered from my first alcohol-free Christmas and New Year. I had started 2012 with a fuzz-free head and I was back in Almuñecar after spending a few days in Malaga (where babs was going to be born). Due to the ever-increasing size of my belly, I spend most of the day on the sofa. Dusk arrives, as does a friend. We take my dogs and go for a long walk — I mean waddle — along the beach: all fifteen minutes of it, including a pot of tea and cake in a nearby cafe! So much for exercise! I get home and, yet again, the sofa beckons. Evening arrives, as does the soon-to-be Dad, wanting to go for a drink and tapas. Well, go on then, I thought. As we get to our ‘local’, I am greeted with great anticipation and excitement. I had already been warned that full moons affect pregnancy and this night, the moon was just that. As I sip my water, I can’t help but think – could tonight be the night? My last night of freedom? 9pm – back home. My back is killing me. My ankles are the size of footballs. Time to lie down and attempt some meditation. 3am – I wake up with cramps. Great, another sleepless night. 5am – I run myself a bath and try to time the cramps. I start to nod off then, suddenly – WOWSERS – I’m having contractions every two minutes! The plan of keeping calm and relaxed quickly melts away as I ‘shock wake´ the father, rush him to the car and demand a quick, yet calming, one hour’s journey to Malaga! 7am –I’m in Urgencias. I’m quickly hooked up

to the monitors and made to sign papework. At this point, my baby bump is practically touching my knees. 9am – the doctor arrives for work; typical! I’m rushed to my room. I request a pool birth and an exercise ball. No epidural. Now, babs was clearly against this as she decided that she was going to make this labour quick but INTENSE! So, just minutes later, I am demanding “Give me the epidural NOW.” Once again, it’s all change and I am rushed downstairs where there is a team of four waiting for me, all trying to have conversations in which I did not wish to take part. I am given the epidural – I had never known the effects of drugs until that moment. I was having an out-of-body experience – cool, man. From then on, I was totally relaxed and, hold on…numb from the waist down. Why was I not told this? I was no longer in control. It was now down to the team of young doctors and nurses to help bring babs into this world. I was given a target of 1pm. This challenge really helps a competitive mind like mine, so I was then focused. Halfway through, I am asked if I would like to see where I am at and have a look in the mirror. My first thought was of the film `Knocked Up’…my reaction was “EW, no no no”. I did not need to see that. I’m told I have one more big push to go, the blanket is laid on my lap, everyone is in position. 1, 2, 3, “Vamos Helen, empuja, empuja...” 1.20pm - my baby girl is here, one week early! She came out screaming (the lungs had formed well), clearly not impressed with her new environment. I was in shock. Was it really over? Was I now a Mummy? Was she okay? Then she was given back to me. I couldn’t believe it... I had done it. She was finally here, and she was perfect. The love was like nothing I’d felt before…now the real fun was about to begin and I suddenly realised that I was starving! ......read more next month

To get to Sedella the best route by car is either via Canillas de Aceituno or from the autovia turn off at Algarrobo and drive inland past Sayalonga, turn left for Archez, drive over the bridge and then turn right following signs for Salares and Sedella. Having arrived at Sedella, continue driving as if going on to Canillas de Aceituno and park the car where you can by the last entrance to the village, one of the first places of interest is the public laundry or wash house situated between three green trimmed arches, which before the invention of washing machines was in constant use by the towns women. Onwards and upwards to the main square and the most unique build-

ing in town, the Casa del Torreón or Tower House, Mudéjar in origin and the former home of the Mayor of Donceles, Lord of Sedella, it was built in the 16th century in the Mudéjar style over a quadrangular floor plan. The tower has twin arches on Renaissance columns with a beam supported hip roof. Majestically sitting at the highest point in the village up a flight of 12 steps is the church of San Andrés with its square two part tower and octagonal belfry, the only vestige of the original 16th century building. If the climb up has made you thirsty you can take a libation in the Bar just below the church. Sedella borders with the municipalities of Canillas de Aceituno, Canillas de Albaida, Salares, Arenas and Alhama de Granada and is one of the 31 villages in the Axarquía that form the Ruta Mudéjar and as mentioned above, the village is filled with examples of Mudéjar architecture and in cases where new houses have been built you can often see how the original Mudéjar design has influenced the design. (see photo!) Like many Axarquía villages Sedella suffered in the earthquake of 1884 but luckily for the inhabitants only the buildings were damaged and there was no loss of life.

TK’S - Laguna Beach At long last, Thomas and Kirsten of the Ribhouse fame have opened a new restaurant! They have taken their two initials T and K to create their restaurant name — TKs -- located at Laguna Beach in Torrox Costa. As soon as I heard they had opened, I booked a Sunday lunch as at the old place, it was one of the best around. As usual on arrival, Thomas was on top form, cracking jokes with the clients, larking about with our kids and creating a great atmosphere. Most of the tables were dressed outside on the large covered terrace. The nice wooden furniture makes a pleasant change from those infamous plastic tables and chairs, which half the time collapse under my immense weight!! We had homemade soup to start — a large tureen of it — and on this occasion, it was mushroom. As usual, it was perfectly seasoned, tasty and there was loads of it! We had already pre-booked lamb and pork for our mains, which are served with the appropriate mint and apple respectively, together with an abundance of gravy in separate boats. All

this is accompanied by Yorkshires, roasties and four freshly-cooked vegetables to complete the dinner. It really is a delicious Sunday lunch and well worth a visit. There is always a good selection of desserts and on this occasion, the choice was — amongst others — fresh fruit salad, homemade peach cake, apple crumble and various crepes, all served with either custard, cream or ice cream. It was great to see Thomas and Kirsten back doing what they do best: knocking out top grub at a top restaurant. They really are a top couple!

Claire Paczko - Lawyer and Olympic TorchBearer We caught up with Claire from the North East

How far did you run? Fortunately, not far! It was approximately 400 yards; some of the Torchbearers were given slightly longer routes than others although it was luck of the draw. Why were you nominated? I was nominated and selected by the Olympic Committee on account of the 15 or so years of national and regional charity work. Some of the fundraising I undertake on my own and at other times, I am part of a team. The causes I support vary and the activities range from sponsored abseils and runs raising a hundred pounds or so, to strategic event management, raising thousands.

I successfully bid for quarter final football tickets at St James Park in Newcastle! I didn’t bid for anything else at the time but wish I had. What are your lasting memories of the Torch Relay? At 09.23 on Saturday 16th June 2012, albeit for a few minutes, I was the only person in the whole world carrying the Olympic Flame! It’s such a phenomenal thought, it’s almost too intense to think about! I feel so inspired by the Olympians and Paralympians. I’d really love to go to Rio, and I am going to try.

Is the Torch yours to keep? Yes, I paid £200 for it. It is the actual torch I carried still with the scorch marks on top and down one side.

Why are you here in Spain? I am on holiday and staying with Dawn and Dave Williams. I know Dawn and her husband Dave really enjoyed the Olympics and watched me carry the Olympic Flame live online, so I thought I would bring the Torch over to Spain to show her. Whilst my visit wasn’t a surprise, the arrival of my Torch was!
