m Fro Ed... the
Hello all and a big welcome to the October edition of The Sentinella magazine. Sadly, summer is becoming an all-too distant memory. Even though the weather is still a nice 22 - 26 degrees Celsius, the rains have started coming, along with some cloudy, dreary days. But, what do we have to look forward to in the month of October? Halloween of course! I do love a good Halloween party — last year, with the restrictions, just didn’t cut it for me, I’m afraid. I do hope the Ayuntamientos put the free tunnel of terror on this year — it is after all a real ‘treat’ for the kids and adults alike. The Belvedere in Torre del Mar will be organising a Halloween party on Sunday 31st October for adults and children, so don’t forget to pay them a ‘trick or treat’ visit and thoroughly enjoy the experience! As we all know, we have not even reached Halloween yet (boo!). We still have a whole month to go, so you can imagine how surprised I was on a recent trip to a popular food shop in Mijas (on 9th September!), when I was browsing around and spotted a long aisle packed full of Celebrations, Roses, Heroes, and Quality Street chocolates for Christmas — you name it, they were there! I mean, at least wait until Halloween has passed, but they didn’t even wait until the children had gone back to school. For me, this just takes away the whole Christmas vibe and I find it quite sad. I think (and this is just my personal opinion, I hasten to add!) that these are treats that should just come out at Christmas time (earliest 1st December), but at this rate we will just be seeing them all year round like the ‘Easter’ Creme Egg and it won’t

be worth celebrating any time of the year with certain treats as every month will just feel the same as the next. Does anyone else feel the same? I’d love to hear your views. I also can’t help remembering a song of ‘old’ by the Byrds: “For every season, there is a turn, turn, turn” and boring though it sounds, I can’t help feeling that this should still be the case. In my view the beginning of December is QUITE soon enough to be celebrating a date in late December! Right, rant over. Here’s wishing a ‘Happy Christmas’ to everyone but in the meantime, since it’s only October, let’s enjoy Halloween!

Alien invasion A man believes that aliens have ruined his life by inserting a nanochip into his arm — resulting in his wife leaving him and causing him to lose his job. US resident Steve Colbern has claimed that he has been taken aboard a UFO “hundreds of times” by aliens that looked like “typical greys”, and that he's been abducted so many times that his perspective on life changed. As the Daily Star reports, Colbern explained that the incident began when he found a UFO hovering over his avocado tree, before he was then pulled up into the spaceship by a green light beam. Then, he was led to a medical station and told to lie down and Steve believes he was given an implant that has changed his life. Speaking in a podcast, he claimed: "He used a long instrument that was like a piece of stainless steel tubing that had a fibre-optic inside that transmitted ultraviolet light and had a device on the end that would dispense the implants and put them into the subject." Hot dog? Visitors to a British pub were baffled when they looked up to the huge boozer's roof and spotted a tiny sausage dog, towering above the people below. A picture of the Three Merry Lads pub in Sheffield had the internet in stitches after people spotted the tiny dog perched proudly on its roof. The snap was taken by a man who was out walking his own dog in the city in south Yorkshire. He said he could hear barking but couldn't figure out where it was coming from, the Daily Star reports. Then he saw the dog — a tiny dachshund perched on the roof of the pub, which appears to be a great way from the ground, a daunting climb for a big dog, and a gigantic effort for the little pooch. The dog, named Chester, belongs to the owners of the pub.

Strange News (Continued)
Super-snake One of the world's largest reptiles has moved home and is now on full view to the public after leaving America for the Middle East. Super Snake, as she is called, is a 14-year-old female reticulated python, and is now a resident at The National Aquarium at Al Qana in Abu Dhabi. She will live at the Flooded Forest Zone along with more than 8,000 rainforest creatures, where visitors can see her getting on with her life. It takes 12 people to hold her at full length and she weighs 115 kilograms, enjoys a diet of ducks and rabbits and is an excellent swimmer, reports say.
Pampered pigeons We've all heard of dog owners spending thousands on designer gear for their pooches, but have you ever heard of pampered pigeons? One woman has gone above and beyond to give her rescue pigeons the best life possible, treating them to a wardrobe full of fabulous outfits and even a posh stroller. Meggy Johnson, from Lincolnshire, rescued her beloved pet pigeons Sky and Moose after they were found abandoned and vulnerable as tiny chicks, or squabs. The 23-year-old nursed them both to health, hand-feeding them with a tube around the clock for six weeks until they became as tame and affectionate as any ordinary pet. The pigeons, along with two other rescue birds who live in her pet supply store, all now live the 'life of luxury' with birthday presents, a collection of soft toys and even walks outside the home in a special stroller that allows each bird to enjoy its surroundings from the safety of their own netted compartment.

The Non-Lucrative Visa
Article by Malaga Legal in Torre del Mar
Who is the NLV aimed at? People with a passive income, who are retired or early retired and do not need to work. Sadly, the state pension in the UK is not high enough on its own to meet the requirements. However, property income, funds in the bank, private pensions and any other sources of either funds or regular income can be used to demonstrate that you have sufficient economic means to meet the visa requirements. Can I apply for a NLV from Spain? No; you must apply in person at the consulate which covers your area in the UK, and wait in the UK until your visa is approved before travelling to Spain. How much money in income or funds must I demonstrate (2021)? Single applicant: 27,112 euros Each additional applicant (spouse, civil partner or dependent) 6,778 euros
Will property income be considered? Yes, but make sure that the dates of the rental contract you submit are valid for the duration of the visa.
Can I work up until the visa is granted? No; the consulate will require proof that you have already stopped working and will ask for a copy of your P45. Will I need private medical insurance? Yes. Even if you are eligible for an S1, you still need to take out a 12 month private health insurance policy from a Spanish insurer. Until your S1 is registered in Spain (which you cannot do until you are legally resident), it will not be accepted by the consulate as proof of health insurance.
soon as possible, as you will need to present a padrón certificate to order your TIE Identity Card. You will have two appointments at the National Police Station, one to order your card and have your fingerprints taken, and the second to collect the card a few weeks later.
How long does the NLV last? The visa lasts for 12 months and you have to apply to renew it just before or even just after the end of the year.
The renewal is for a further two years. The downside of this is that at renewal time you must now demonstrate that you have the funds to last you for two years instead of one; not a problem if you are showing monthly income from a pension or other source, but if you are relying mostly or solely on money in the bank, it can cause problems so best to plan ahead.
How do I renew? The renewal is done online; the information you provide is sent in to the Foreigners’ Office in your province, who then process your application electronically. For advice on applying for a Non-Lucrative Visa or any other type of visa, to chat about the options available to you, or to get advice on your visa renewal, we can help.
If you have just arrived on a visa and need help with your first police appointments, let us make them for you and get all your documentation ready. See main advert opposite
As soon as you are in Spain, you can call Overseas Healthcare to order your S1 and apply to register it once you have your TIE card.
What happens once the visa is granted? You have 3 months to travel to Spain. Once you arrive, you must get on the register of inhabitants (padrón) in your local town as

Real Man
The top ten things that make you feel like a real man… Opening jars – She’s struggling. You take if from her hands, open it effortlessly and pretend she loosened it for you. She didn’t. Jars are men’s work. Calling someone ‘Son’ – Especially policemen, but even saying it to kids makes you the man.
Sharpening a pencil with a Stanley Blade – Blunt is it? Hand it here love. NO I don’t need a sharpener, you think I can’t whittle.
Having a scar – ideally it’ll be a facial knife wound, but even an iron burn on the wrist is good. “Oooh, did it hurt?” “Nah” Carving the roast – and saying “are you a leg man or a breast man” to the blokes and “do you want stuffing” to the women. Congratulations, you are now your dad.
Arriving in the pub late and everyone cheers you – doesn’t mean you’re popular, it just means your mates are pissed. However, the rest of the pub doesn’t know that.
Going to the tip – A manly act which involves driving, lifting and – as you thrillingly drop your rubbish into another huge pile of rubbish – noisy destruction. Drinking up – Specifically rising from the table, slinging your coat on and downing two thirds of a pint in one fluid movement. Then nodding towards the door saying, ‘Lets go’ and striding out while everyone else struggles to keep up with you.
Winking – turns women to putty. Doesn’t it?

Doctor’s Stories
True life happenings from the Doctor’s Surgery…
A man came into the ER yelling, "My wife's going to have her baby in the cab!" I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, lifted the lady's dress, and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly I noticed that there were several cabs, and I was in the wrong one. Dr. Mark MacDonald, San Antonio, TX At the beginning of my shift I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall. "Big breaths," I instructed. "Yes, they used to be," she remorsefully replied. Dr. Richard Byrnes, Seattle, WA
"massive internal fart." Dr. Susan Steinberg, Manitoba, Canada
I was performing a complete physical, including the visual acuity test. I placed the patient twenty feet from the chart and began, "Cover your right eye with your hand." He read the 20/20 line perfectly. "Now your left." Again, a flawless read. "Now both," I requested. There was silence. He couldn't even read the large E on the top line. I turned and discovered that he had done exactly what I had asked; he was standing there with both his eyes covered. I was laughing too hard to finish the exam. Dr. Matthew Theodropolous, Worcester, MA
One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a wife that her husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct. Not more than five minutes later, I heard her reporting to the rest of the family that he had died of a

Pumpkin Facts
A few facts about our Halloween friend… Pumpkins are fruits, a type of squash that includes cucumbers, squashes and melons. Pumpkins are native to North America and have been domestically grown there for five thousand years.
In 1584, after French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the Saint Lawrence region of North America, he reported finding "gros melons" (large melons). The name was translated into English as "pompions," which has since evolved into the modern "pumpkin." Pumpkins are low in calories, fat, and sodium and high in fibre. They are good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, potassium, protein, and iron. The largest pumpkin ever grown was over 1100 by a man in Ohio, in 2000.
Pumpkins require a long hot growing season
and loads of humus, manure and water.
The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake. Pumpkins are members of the vine crops family called cucurbits. They are easy to grow! Pumpkins originated in Central America.
In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling. Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites. Pumpkins range in size from less than a pound to over 1,000 pounds. Pumpkins are 90 per cent water.

Interesting Facts... Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest country in the Western Hemisphere.
The islands of Nevis and Saint Kitts are separated by a shallow, two mile channel known as “The Narrows”.
When Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1493, he named it after his patron saint, St. Christopher. Later it was shortened to St. Kitts, his nickname. It was considered the mother colony of the West Indies. A member of the Commonwealth (former British Empire), St. Kitts and Nevis is an English-speaking nation and gained independence from Britain in 1983.
The English began to settle in the islands in 1623, St. Kitts was the first English colony in the Caribbean. Over the next several years, the English and French would fight over the island. Eventually English took full control.
St. Kitts and Nevis was once known as the Gibraltar of the West Indies. Its volcanic vantage point offering lines of sight to nearby Nevis, St. Eustatius, and Saba.
Residents of St. Kitts are called Kittitians while the people who live on Nevis are called Nevisians.

They say what they see....
Kid Humour
Jack (age 3) …was watching his Mum breast-feeding his new baby sister. After a while he asked: 'Mum why have you got two? Is one for hot and one for cold milk?'
Melanie (age 5) …asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, 'If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six.'
Steven (age 3) …hugged and kissed his Mum good night and said: 'I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window.' Brittany (age 4) …had an ear ache and wanted a pain killer. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mum explained it was a child-proof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: 'How does it know it's me?'
Susan (age 4) …was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. 'Please don't give me this
juice again,' she said. 'It makes my teeth cough.'
Clinton (age 5) …was in his bedroom looking worried. When his Mum asked what was troubling him, he replied: 'I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in it?' Marc (age 4) …was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his Dad: 'Why is he whispering in her mouth?'
Tammy (age 4)… was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mum knew. Tammy looked at her for a while and then asked: 'Why doesn't your skin fit your face?'
James (age 4) …was listening to a Bible story. His Dad read: 'The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city, but his wife looked back and was turned to salt.' Concerned, James asked: 'What happened to the flea?'

Halloween Throughout The World
How countries celebrate......
Ireland In Ireland, which is considered to be where Halloween started, the day is celebrated much like it is in the United States. In rural areas, bonfires are lit as they were centuries ago, and all over the country children dress up in costumes and spend the evening "trick-or-treating”. After trick-or-treating, most people attend parties with neighbours and friends. At the parties, many games are played, including a card game where cards are laid face down on a table with candy or coins underneath them. When a child chooses a card, he receives whatever prize is found below it.
A traditional food eaten on Halloween in Ireland is barnbrack, a kind of fruitcake. A muslin-wrapped treat is baked inside the cake that, it is said, can foretell the eater's future. If a ring is found, it means that the person will soon be wed; a piece of straw means that a prosperous year is on its way.
China In China, the Halloween festival is known as TengChieh. Food and water are placed in front of photographs of family members who have departed while bonfires and lanterns are lit in order to light the paths of the spirits as they travel the earth on Halloween night. Worshippers in Buddhist temples fashion "boats of the law" from paper, which are burned in the evening hours. The purpose of this custom is twofold: as a remembrance of the dead and in order to free the spirits of the "pretas" in order for them to ascend to heaven. "Pretas" are the spirits of those who died as a result of an accident or drowning and whose bodies were consequently never buried. The presence of "pretas" among the living is thought by the Chinese to be dangerous. Czechoslovakia In Czechoslovakia, chairs are placed by the fireside on Halloween night. There is one chair for each living family member and one for each family member's spirit.
Germany In Germany people put away their knives on Halloween night. The reason for this is because they do not want to risk harm to (or from) the returning spirits.
35
Korea In Korea, the festival similar to Halloween is known as "Chusok." It is at this time that families thank their ancestors for the fruits of their labour. The family pays respect to these ancestors by visiting their tombs and making offerings of rice and fruits. The "Chusok" festival takes place in the month of August.
Mexico, Latin America and Spain Among Spanish-speaking nations, particularly Mexico, Latin America, and Spain, Halloween is known as "El Dia de los Muertos." the days of the dead, a three-day celebration that begins on the evening of October 31 and culminates on November 2

Kulula Airlines
Kulula is an Airline situated in Johannesburg. Kulula airline attendants make an effort to make the in-flight "safety lecture" and announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:
On landing, the stewardess said, "Please be sure to take all of your belongings.. If you're going to leave anything, please make sure it's something we'd like to have." "In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child travelling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are travelling with more than one small child, pick your favourite."
And from the pilot during his welcome message: "Kulula Airlines is pleased to announce that we have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately, none of them are on this flight!"
37
A plane took off and after it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain said over the intercom, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, non-stop from Durban to Cape Town. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight.. Now sit back and relax... OH, MY GOODNESS!" Silence followed, and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier. While I was talking to you, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!" A passenger then yelled, "That's nothing. You should see the back of mine!
Them there’s the Sermon I think this Mum will never forget. 'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust...' He would have continued but at that moment a very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year-old girl voice: 'Mum, what is butt dust?'

Out And About In Torrox
Torrox is the name of a collection of locations situated east of Torre Del Mar. This is a popular spot to live and holiday for both Spanish and other European nations with one big factor being it has the best climate in Europe. Each of these places have much to offer in their own right and collectively, they form a lovely area to live, work and relax. Torrox Costa is located just 15km from Torre Del Mar. Torrox Costa has a totally different character and personality to its near neighbour. Like much of this coast, there’s an impressive promenade that sweeps the length of the beaches here. At its eastern end, just past the lighthouse, the beach is dog friendly and is a great spot to let your furry friend run along the shoreline.
Torrox Pueblo is situated at the foothills of the Alpujarra mountains, a couple of miles inland from Torrox Costa. This is traditional white-washed village set in a green valley. There’s a traditional Spanish feel to this small village, despite it being the home to many people from other parts of the world. Located between Torrox Costa and Pueblo, Torrox Park is a large collection of urbanisations that are popular relocation spots with those who decide to make this area of Axarquía their home. There’s property to suit every budget and style: spacious villas, townhouses and apartments along with a large and well equipped mobile home park that allows all year living. Whilst, in itself, Torrox Park, doesn’t offer much for day trippers, many visitors stay here as homes are frequently listed for holiday rental. It does provide all the services required for a smooth stay or relocation: bars, restaurants, supermarkets as well as doctors, chemists, hairdressers etc.
The combination of Torrox Costa, Pueblo and Park is a winning one. Each has their own distinct character but each are connected to form an excellent place to stay, explore and maybe even to live. Shop Local - Support Your Local Community

The Laws Of Golf
Law 1: No matter how bad your last shot was, the worst is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime.
Law 2: Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former. Law 3: Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water.
Law 4: Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play. If one does, the tree is breaking a law of the universe and should be cut down.
45
Law 5: No matter what causes a golfer to duff a shot, all his playing partners must solemnly chant "You looked up," or invoke the wrath of the universe. Law 6: The higher a golfer's handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor.
Law 7: Every par-three hole in the world has a secret desire to humiliate golfers. The shorter the hole, the greater its desire. Law 8: Topping a 3-iron is the most painful torture known to man. Law 9: Palm trees eat golf balls.
Law 10: Sand is alive. If it isn't, how do you explain the way it works against you?
Law 11: Golf carts always run out of juice at the farthest point from the clubhouse.
Law 12: The person you would most hate to lose to will always be the one who beats you.

More dear milkman notes
Milkie
Knock knock. My TV’s broken down and I missed last night’s Coronation Street. If you saw it will you tell me what happened over a cup of tea?
My daughter says she wants a milkshake. Do you do it before you deliver or do I have to shake the bottle?
Please send me a form for cheap milk, for I have a baby two months old and did not know about it until a neighbour told me. Please send me details about cheap milk as I am stagnant. Milk is needed for the baby. Father is unable to supply it. From now on leave two pints every other day and one pint on the days in
between, except Wednesdays and Saturdays when I don’t want any milk. My back door is open. Please put milk in fridge, get money out of cup in drawer and leave change on kitchen table in pence, because we want to play bingo tonight.
Please leave the milk, please put the coal on the boiler, let dog out and put newspaper inside the screen door. Ps. Don’t leave any milk. No milk.

Random Jokes
One day an Irishman, who had been stranded on a deserted island for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon. He thought to himself, "It's certainly not a ship.." As the speck got closer and closer, he began to rule out even the possibilities of a small boat or a raft. Suddenly there strode from the surf a figure clad black wet suit. Putting aside the scuba tanks and mask, and zipping down the top of the wet suit, there stood a drop-dead gorgeous blonde! She walked up to the stunned Irishman and said to him, "Tell me, how long has it been since you've had a good cigar?" "Ten years!" replied the amazed Irishman. With that, she reached over and unzipped a waterproof pocket on the left sleeve of her wet suit and pulled out a fresh package of cigars and a lighter. He took a cigar, slowly lit it, and took a long

drag, "Faith and begorrah!" said the castaway. "Ah, that is so good! I'd forgotten how great a smoke can be!" "And how long has it been since you've had a drop of good Bushmill's Irish Whiskey?" asked the blonde. Trembling, the castaway replied, "Ten years!" Hearing that, the blonde reached over to her right sleeve, unzipped a pocket there and removed a flask and handed it to him. He opened the flask and took a long drink. "'Tis nectar of the gods!" shouted the Irishman. "'Tis truly fantastic!!!" At this point, the gorgeous blonde started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man and asked, "And how long has it been since you've played around?" With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed,
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Don't tell me that you've got golf clubs in there as well!"

The original Candyman protagonist Helen’s role in the story is intentionally told through unreliable narrators, itself an urban legend in the context of this new film.
202
Director: Nia DaCosta Writers: Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld and Nia DaCosta. Stars: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett Rating: R Runtime: 1hr 31min
Nia DaCosta’s new take on Candyman directly continues the story of the original and most beloved entry in the series. The film revives Bernard Rose’s 1992 cult horror, continuing its mythologising of buried, collective historical trauma in the form of its eponymous vengeful spirit, but also attempts to engage with the missteps of its predecessor.
In the present day, many years after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, Anthony and his partner move into a loft in the-now gentrified Cabrini. A chance encounterd with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman.
Anxious to use these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, he unknowingly opens a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence. Production was brought back to the Cabrini Green neighborhood where Candyman (1992) was filmed. Though the high-rise buildings have long been demolished, the Rowhouses still exist. Canillas De Aceituno
Breathtaking mountain setting with exceptional hiking trails
The municipality of Canillas de Aceituno and its near neighbour, Canillas de Albaida are set high in the mountains of Axarquía with excellent views of the Mediterranean Sea and the mountain ranges of North Africa on the far horizon. Both towns are perfect examples of the pueblo blanco and well worth the twisting mountain ascent. Canillas de Aceituno trails the mountains of the Sierra Tejeda right along to the highest peak, Mount Maroma. This stunning location makes it a popular starting point for outdoor enthusiasts. The vistas from the viewing platform handily located above the town’s free car park offer incredible scenes across the coast of Andalusia to the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. It’s then a meandering, climb along narrow streets with brilliant white houses bedecked with flowers to the town centre and its several cafes and bars. This is a peaceful place: in summer afternoons it could be described as sleepy as it languishes in the summer heat. It is a town where time can really be described to have stood still and, whilst a number of Europeans have made this attractive location their home, it retains its charm and traditions. Annual festivals One such tradition is its annual festival held on the last Sunday in April, the village of Canillas de Aceituno hosts the the fiesta of El Día de la Morcilla. This is day to celebrate the humble black pudding. This is a speciality black-pudding mixed with onion, and for which the village is famous across the region. The festival attracts a large crowd to eat this delicacy and drink beer and wine. Only in Spain would a black pudding be elevated to haute cuisine.
Aside from the edible delights of El Dia de la Morcilla, Canillas de Aceituno offers a number of excellent restaurants. Many of these serve the local specialties: chivo al horno or en salsa de almendras, roasted goat served with an almond sauce, potaje de hinojos a hearty fennel stew or olla, a tasty meat and chickpea stew. The food is warm and nostalgic and represents the fact that this is a mountain region. Other festivals include the Romería de San
Isidro, held in May, and is a major religious procession. Traditional massive pans filled with paella line the streets and is freely offered to visitors and locals.
In mid August, the Feria de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza takes place. This is another procession when The Virgin statue is paraded through the town and this event is celebrated with dancing, music, food and drink.
El Saltillo Suspension Bridge A major draw of this region are the mountains and the hikes. The most recent and dramatic addition to this area is the El Saltillo Suspension Bridge, constructed of steel and wood and hanging across a stunning canyon. It is part of the El Saltillo trail which is a spectacular and popular path along the side of the mountains. The bridge among the three largest suspension bridges in Spain in a natural setting and it is not for the faint hearted or those with a fear of heights. It is an impressive 50 metres long and 50 metres above the Almanchares River. The bridge spans the canyon and offers incredible views.
Another highly recommended route is the Neveros trail which ascends to the highest peak in the Malaga province: La Maroma, at a height of 2,066 metres it dominates the area. The climb is well worth the exertion for the incredible views and wonderfully exhilarating mountain air. Canillas de Aceituno with its idyllic location and wonderful scenery is a spectacular place to spend a day hiking, celebrating a local festival or the perfect place to have a very relaxed holiday in a real and unspoilt Andalucian white village.

NON-LUCRATIVE VISAS TO LIVE IN SPAIN For British nationals who wish to reside in Spain there are two main options: Non-Lucrative visas are for those who can show evidence of income outside of Spain and have private medical care; Golden visas are for those who have more than 500,000€ to invest.
If you wish to apply for the Non-Lucrative visa, the first application can be made online by our specialist lawyer. The application is made to the relevant Spanish Consulate in the UK who will then issue a fixed appointment. You will attend in person with the original documentation, copies of which will have been scanned to them by our lawyer. The Spanish authorities will answer, normally within a month to six weeks, as to whether your application has been successful. If successful, you return to have your passport stamped with the visa (visado). This visa is for those who wish to become permanent residents in Spain. You will then attend the local police station with evidence of rental or ownership of property and your registration with the Town Hall where your residence card will be issued. This residence will be valid for one year and renewable for two consecutive two-year periods thereafter. You will need to be able to prove income of approximately 28,000€ for the main applicant and in the region of an additional 600€ monthly for economic dependants. You will also need private medical insurance and a clean criminal records check. Please bear in mind that if the application is
69
not made correctly the request can be refused and you will not be reimbursed the Spanish Consulate visa fee which is currently 516 GBP for the Non-Lucrative visa. Golden visas are for those who have more than 500,000€ to invest in Spain. For more information contact us. Each individual’s case is different and at De Cotta Law you can speak to Spanish abogados and qualified English Solicitors. Another Personality Test
Imagine yourself driving along on a wild stormy night. You pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus
1) An old lady who is about to die
2) An old friend who once saved your life
3) The perfect man (or woman) you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car?
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.
You could pick up the old lady because she is going to die and thus you could save her first, or you could take the old friend because he/she once saved your life and this would be the perfect chance to pay them back. However, you may never be able to find your
perfect dream lover again.
Answers could vary depending on the personality. However, there is a perfect answer. If you are a person who would think “out the box” you would answer:
“I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the old lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the woman (or man) of my dreams.”

41 Club Nerja
“We meet again, at last!”
“Absolutely thrilled and delighted”, exclaimed Peter MacLeod, Chairman of 41 CLUB NERJA, at the news that after 20 long months our members are at last coming together for a proper social gathering. “Our 40 plus members come from nine different Countries and this Pandemic has therefore had a really hard impact on us” explained Peter. “But we’ve kept our strong friendships going through technology, swapping snippets of fun on our Whatsapp group and by embracing remote meetings through the wonders of Zoom”.
“Now, as members are starting to travel again”, Peter went on to say “We are able to meet up properly and we are so looking forward to meeting face to face and swapping all those stories about how the Lockdown has affected us”. Peter is also pleased to report that “The Club has been busy behind the scenes, improving our website and developing a new Facebook page, all aimed at increasing the Club’s profile in the community and recruiting some new members, while getting prepared for maybe just a little bit of normality”.
Peter finished off by inviting any past members of Round Table, from anywhere in the World, who may live or spend some time in Nerja, or the wider area “East of Malaga”, to get in touch and come along to see how we continue the fun and fellowship associated with the Round Table Family. 41 Club Nerja Chairman Peter MacLeod can be contacted via email at pmacleod5000@outlook.com or by phone on 0034 678 059 288

Random Joke
A firefighter was working on the engine outside the Station, when he noticed a little girl nearby in a little red wagon with little ladders hung off the sides and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle. The girl was wearing a firefighter’s helmet. The wagon was being pulled by her dog and her cat. The firefighter walked over to take a closer look. 'That sure is a nice fire truck,' the firefighter said with admiration. 'Thanks,' the girl replied. The firefighter looked a little closer... The girl had tied the wagon to her dog's collar and to the cat's testicles. 'Little partner,' the firefighter said, 'I don't want to tell you how to run your rig, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster.' The little girl replied thoughtfully, 'You're probably right, but then I wouldn't have a siren.'

Ireland is typically believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.
The famous magician Harry Houdini died on October 31, 1926.
The first Jack O’Lanterns were actually made from turnips.
The sounds of stabbing in the Halloween movie is made by a knife being plunged into a watermelon.
Orange and black are Halloween colours because orange is associated with the Fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death. Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween.
In 1974, eight-year-old Timothy O’Bryan died of cyanide poisoning after eating Halloween candy. Investigators later learned that his father had taken out a $20,000 life insurance policy on each of his children and that he had poisoned his own son and also attempted to poison his daughter. A child born on Halloween is said to have the ability to talk to spirits.
Halloween used to be a great day to find your soulmate.
If you’d been around for the earliest Halloween celebrations, you might have worn animal skins and heads.
In a few American towns, Halloween was originally referred to as “Cabbage Night.”

Almijara Bowls Club nerja
Hello to all those people living in Nerja and surrounding areas, I know that many of you are retired and are living here with many hours of free time and not knowing what to do to fulfil this spare time. Some of you may be physically fit enough to enjoy Tennis, others maybe to play Bridge, but there are those of you that are looking for a more relaxing form of sport that has less physical requirements
Look no further, my name is David Trippas and I am the President of the "Almijara Bowls Club" in Nerja. We play Short Mat Bowling which has very similar rules to Green Bowling and Indoor Long Mat Bowling.
The game of Short Mat Bowling is a sport that requires skill, the same as any other sport, it is very competitive and gives a great sense of achievement when you are able to achieve success in winning games. We did have 62 members who enjoyed bowling throughout the year for seven days a week, however, due to the Pandemic we have lost a considerable number lowering our member total to 40 and we are now looking for new contenders. Should you wish to try your hand at this sport, it's possible for you to come along to our club days which are on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the mornings starting at 10.30am and finishing at approximately 1.30pm. Should you be new to the game we will coach you and loan shoes and bowls to suit. Our members are both ladies and gents and compete against one another on the same level. Non members pay as visitors which is 5€, this would include coaching should you be totally new to this sport and the club equipment. Don’t be shy at trying this sport, we all had to learn somewhere and what could be better than in the company of very friendly people with superb facilities.
We have had an excellent response this year from visitors who have been on holiday, we have found these people coming along on our club days for the three sessions and they have enjoyed the sport and company. This sport is for all ages and not just old age pensioners, most of the top competitions in bowling are won by people in the age group of 16 to 40 years.

The episode featuring Mr Dymond was never aired and the show, which ran for 17 series between 2005 and 2019, was cancelled shortly afterwards. Writing in his OK! magazine column, Peter defends his friend and says ITV should have done more to “protect’ him. He also pointed out shows like Love Island are still on air, despite the deaths of three cast members, including host Caroline Flack. Peter’s comments come shortly after it was announced Jeremy had landed a new job following two years out of the spotlight. The 56-year-old is hosting a new drivetime show on talkRadio, which began last month.
New talent hostess Maya Jama is set to host Simon Cowell's new TV talent show Walk The Line. The former Radio 1 DJ, 27, was announced as the presenter of the new series, which sees Simon try out a new format following his decision to shelve The X Factor indefinitely. Walk The Line is a high-octane series offering music acts a chance to win a life-changing prize pot of £500,000.
But to win the money, talent alone isn't enough — the contestants will need nerves of steel as they determine whether to cash out or physically Walk The Line and risk it all to stay in the competition.
Gove dancing Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove’s dancing in a Scottish nightclub lacked “real urgency or inner rhythm”, according to a judge on Strictly Come Dancing. Craig Revel Horwood rated the politician’s moves to be a three out of 10, but gave Mr Gove the maximum score possible for “enjoying himself”.
The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 54, was spotted dancing at the Pipe nightclub in Aberdeen, with the venue posting a video on Facebook showing him throwing shapes on the dancefloor. Revel Horwood, 56, appeared on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show via video call to discuss Mr Gove’s moves.

New Luther stars Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis are starring alongside Idris Elba in the highly-anticipated Luther movie on Netflix, which began filming last month. Idris, 49, will be in good company alongside Widows actress Cynthia, 34, and King Kong star Andy, 57, in the upcoming feature film written by series creator Neil Cross.
There have been five series of the BBC crime drama, the first of which aired back in 2010, and Idris previously expressed his desire for there to be a film too. The streaming site said in a Facebook post, “Luther is coming back!”
He told the studio panel: “I think it is absolutely hilarious and I have got to say this, that I have to embrace people going out and enjoying themselves and dancing, no matter in what form. “However, there is a technical issue here, darling, as well. At least rehearse it at home, I would say.”

Who’s The Expert? - Using A Lawyer To Purchase Or Sell
Selling properties in the Andalusian countryside is no mean feat! It takes time to show properties and reach an agreement on a price with a client. By the time you get to this stage, which in some cases can take weeks, it is very frustrating to see the same clients losing the selected property due to choosing the wrong legal representatives. Not every lawyer knows the game when it comes to rural properties in this area, so it is vital to choose carefully.
It is not obligatory to take on a lawyer when purchasing a property in Spain. However, in many cases it is highly advisable, given that many buyers do not speak the language or understand the processes or paperwork involved. But so often the choice of lawyer makes the difference between the purchase going ahead or not. A lawyer is there to check out any potential problems and offer solutions, so that the clients can make an informed decision. But giving the wrong advice (and often completely ignoring the solutions) can end up with the client letting
93
the property go for all the wrong reasons or losing it to another buyer due to the slow processing of their legal representatives.
We cannot emphasise more strongly the need, especially when purchasing a country property in this area, to choose a local lawyer and one who is experienced with properties on rural land. It is not always the best option to choose a big law firm outside this area, or even outside Andalusia, for example, for the purchase of a rural property in Axarquía, unless they have local experience here. They may not know what is and is not accepted in the local town halls and in the local notary and registry offices. Someone who knows everyone locally is the best choice! The local agencies should always be able to offer you a selection of recommendations, and the buyers should have the freedom of choice – but make sure it is the right choice. Drinks Time: Gin O’Clock
The South Ormsby Estate is located in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Classed as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, this region can justifiably boast history and tradition. The Estate spans some 3000 acres, with Jon and Jan Thornes being the current custodians.
Tristan Jorgensen is the Head Distiller at South Ormsby Estate. Tristan gained distillery experiences in Scotland and is now utilising that knowledge and those experiences to great advantage, having created a multi award-winning brand for South Ormsby Estate’s own craft gins, with several of the botanicals used coming from the estate.
History dictates that Charles Burrell Massingberd (1749 – 1835) became the squire of South Ormsby Estate during 1802. I found Burrell’s Dry Gin (43% vol) superb. This elegant, refined production is classic and fresh. Burrell’s Dry Gin has botanicals that include juniper, angelica root, coriander seeds, lemon peel, apple and almonds, plus some more, that make this gin the very worthy and excellent quality production that it is. Fragrant, smooth and crisp is how I would describe this gin. The mouthfeel and palate’s sensation enjoy the fruitiness. I found that with an added tonic, this production came into its own., having delights of citrusy overtones and really great for a G&T mix, garnishing with citrus fruits. Marie Jeanne Rapigeon of Versailles (1764 1863) refurbished and transformed South

Ormsby Estate, bringing further elegance and glamour. Marie Jeanne became the second wife of the squire and the gin created by Tristan Jorgensen pays a great tribute to this lady. Red fruit aromas and flavours are evident, in this splendid, pink gin (43% vol) production. Also, fabulous for adding colour, to any occasion. The botanicals used for this gin include juniper, angelica root, coriander seeds, cassia bark, pink peppercorns, strawberries, raspberries and cranberries. Again, I found this to be another extremely well-balanced production. Certainly, the bouquet is fruity and, with the palate following through, having further highlights of complexity and depth, this much appreciated and respected delectation is a ‘pink gin’ lover’s delight.

An older gentleman had an appointment to see the Urologist who shared offices with several other doctors. The waiting room was filled with patients. As he approached the receptionist's desk, he noticed that the receptionist was a large, unfriendly looking woman who looked like a Sumo wrestler. He gave her his name. In a very loud voice, the receptionist said, "You want to see the doctor about Impotence right?” All the patients in the waiting room snapped their heads around to look at the very embarrassed man. He recovered quickly, and in an equally loud voice replied,”No, I´ve come to enquire about a sex change, but I don´t want the same doctor that did yours!” ------------------------------------------------------------Murphy's' old lady had been pregnant for some time and now the time had come. He brought her to the doctor and the doctor began to deliver the baby. She had a little boy, and the doctor looked over at Murphy and said. 'Hey, Murph! You just had you a son! 'Ain't dat grand!!' Murphy got excited by this, but just then the doctor spoke up and said, 'Hold on! We ain't finished yet!' The doctor then delivered a little girl. He said, 'Hey, Murph! You got you a daughter!!!! She is a pretty lil ting, too....' Murphy got kind of puzzled by this and then the doctor said, 'Hold on, we aint got done yet!' The doctor then delivered another boy and said, 'Murph, you just had yourself another boy!' Murphy said to the doctor, 'Doc, what caused all of dem babies?' The doctor said, 'You never know Murph, it was probably something that happened during conception.'
Murphy said, 'Ah yeah, during conception.' When Murph and his wife went home with their three children, he sat down with his wife and said, 'Mama, you remember dat night that we ran out of Vaseline and we had to use dat dere 3-in-1 Oil.' She said, 'Yeah, I remember dat night...' Murph said, 'I'll tell you,....it's a friggin' good ting we didn't use WD-40. ------------------------------------------------------------Two women friends had gone for a girl's night out; both were very faithful and loving wives. However, they had gotten over-enthusiastic on Bacardi Breezers. Incredibly drunk and walking home, they needed to pee, so they stopped in the cemetery. One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her undies and use them. Her friend however, was wearing a rather expensive pair of undies that she did not want to ruin, but was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath with a big ribbon on it, so she proceeded to use the ribbon. After the girls did their business, they proceeded to go home. The next day, one woman's husband was concerned that his normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed hung over, so he phoned the other husband and said, 'These damn girls' nights out have got to stop. I'm starting to suspect the worst. My wife came home with no undies!' 'You think that's bad' said the other husband, 'Mine is lying in bed with a card stuck in her arse that says: 'From all of us at the Fire Station we'll never forget you!' ------------------------------------------------------------Police in Liverpool have found a very large arsenal of weapons in a library. Understandably the locals are in deep shock. When one local was asked about their thoughts, he said “I never knew we had a library”

A man walks into a bar, notices a very large jar on the counter, and sees that it's filled to the brim with 10€ notes. He guesses there must be at least ten thousand euros in it. He approaches the barman and asks, "What's with the money in the jar?" "Well..., you pay 10€ and if you pass three tests, you get all the money in the jar and the keys to a brand new Lexus." The man certainly isn't going to pass this up, so he asks, "What are the three tests?" "You gotta pay first," says the barman, "Those are the rules." So, after thinking it over a while, the man gives the barman 10€ which he stuffs into the jar. "Okay," says the barman, "Here's what you need to do: First - You have to drink a whole bottle of tequila, in 60 seconds or less and you can't make a face while doing it." "Second - There's a pit bull chained in the back with a bad tooth. You have to remove that tooth with your bare hands." "Third - There's a 90 year old lady upstairs who's never had sex. You have to take care of that problem." The man is stunned! "I know I paid my 10€ but I'm not an idiot! I won't do it! You'd have to be nuts to drink a bottle of tequila and then do all those other things!" "Your call," says the barman, "But your money stays where it is." As time goes on, the man has a few more drinks and finally says, "Where's the damn tequila?!" He grabs the bottle with both hands and drinks it as fast as he can. Tears stream down both cheeks, but he doesn't make a face and he drinks it in 58 seconds! Next, he staggers out the back door where he sees the pitbull chained to a pole. Soon, the people inside the bar hear loud growling,

screaming and sounds of a terrible fight, then nothing but silence! Just when they think that the man surely must be dead, he staggers back into the bar. His clothes are ripped to shreds and he's bleeding from bites and gashes all over his body. He drunkenly says, "Now.., where's that old woman with the bad tooth?" ------------------------------------------------------------A man and his wife, now in their 60's, were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. On their special day a good fairy came to them and said that because they had been so good that each one of them could have one wish. The wife wished for a trip around the world with her husband. Whoosh! Immediately she had airline/cruise tickets in her hands. The man wished for a female companion 30 years younger... Whoosh...immediately he turned ninety!!! ------------------------------------------------------------A couple are lying in bed. The man says, 'I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world.' The woman replies, 'I'll miss you...' ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy and Mick go to London to donate sperm. It was a disaster! Paddy missed the tube and Mick came on the bus! ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy calls Easyjet to book a flight. The operator asks "How many people are flying with you?" Paddy replies "I don't know! It’s your f***ing plane!" ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy, the electrician, got sacked from the U.S. prison service for not servicing the electric chair. ARIES: March 21-April 20 Take care when explaining your creative and inner thoughts to others, trying not to appear defensive nor to have expectations that your ideas will be shared. Seek a little cultural stimulation this month perhaps travel where you may or visiting art galleries
TAURUS: April 21-May 21 Taureans are highly creative and expressive individuals. If some find you conservative it’s because they themselves lack understanding of the experimental and revolutionary ideals that drive you. It’s second nature to you to be involved with humanitarian endeavours and causes that help others. Friendship is important to you and part of your essential journey through life
GEMINI: May 22-June 21 Pay attention to being truthful in all aspects this month or you will feel compromised and realities, that you prefer not to be public, will be brought into the spotlight. You seek intimate, one-to-one, cooperation but results will differ from your expectations
CANCER: June 22-July 22 You’re working harder than at any time previously in your life but something is being lost along the way. Beware that someone at work is perhaps not being kind and maybe sidetracking your intent. You will eventually find reward and satisfaction if you carry on bringing service and kindness to those around you
LEO: July 23-August 23 During October, Leos will be filled with a sense of self-awareness. Experiment and you will excel without restraint, using the full force of your expressiveness, assertiveness and competitiveness. Don’t worry about what others may interpret as lack of discipline
VIRGO: August 24-September 22 Think and act with reserve and genuine regard for others, not just those you want to impress. Become conscious of your thoughts and examine your behaviour based on what you know to be right. If you listen to others, your conflicts and difficulties, especially within the home and family, can be resolved
LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 Put forth your ideas and beliefs but not with such force others feel left out or need to argue. Apply energies to rigorous work agendas and team spirit. Your true power appears when you remember to be a teacher and a listener. Becoming one who understands is the route to leadership
SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 Your desire for material objects this month means you need to be careful with money. Try to discern between need and gratification which causes wastefulness, and don`t feel obliged to make unwise, impossible financial decisions. Your worth is unrelated to your possessions and is about how you serve SAGITTARIUS: November 22 December 21 A lot can be accomplished in the next few months if you focus on your individual gifts, be amusing and work on your vocational identity. Within relationships, you need to bend a little and avoid demands that cannot be met. More independence would help, avoiding arguments about your personal thoughts and beliefs
CAPRICORN: December 22 January 20 You need a time for solitude, seclusion and reflection but it’s also important to communicate feelings to someone you trust, an old friend perhaps rather than a family member. Past experiences emerge and you may wish to re-enact them whilst maintaining awareness and efforts to create new behavioural archetypes
AQUARIUS: January 21-February 19 Don’t sit back and allow nothing to change, it will albeit slowly. This is your time to think about and set future goals, creating a balance between personal needs and those you love. Lead on Aquarius but do not undermine your vital spirit of love
PISCES: February 20-March 20 Align yourself with love to help identify new protocols, policies, and requirements needed to create a successful and satisfying project with intelligent structures. Come out of isolation to make connections with people and projects
