I am sure this month has been particularly difficult for all business owners who have successfully managed to re-open their doors, but have probably found it to be a real struggle having to adapt to the new norms of how our society will be for some time to come. Congratulations to them all for helping to make sure that we as customers stay safe. It’s been what I would describe as an emotional rollercoaster of a month, speaking with all of our advertisers and hearing about their current situations. Sadly, some businesses have had to leave us temporarily until the time is right for them again, and I wish them all the luck in the world with that. You will still be able to find their contact details in all the previous editions that are on www.thesentinella.com However, there has also been plenty of good news too — many existing businesses are now joining us, and we welcome them onboard. There are some brand-new businesses too, which is fantastic, and we will of course be supporting them all the way along with every business advertised in
The Sentinella.
We can beat this together, and one huge way that you can help is to use local businesses wherever possible. Giving your custom to a small fruit and veg shop or local tradesman currently means putting food on the table for their families in many cases. Inside The Sentinella are hundreds of businesses all reaching out for your custom, so please have a look through and if they give you a good service, make you smile or maybe just do a great job as advertised, then let others know

Strange News of your experience. Word of mouth travels far in this community and most of all, please let the owners know you found their business in The Sentinella. Thank you. On a lighter note, Summer is finally here so let’s try and put all the doom and gloom behind us, and enjoy these next few months that most of us look forward to. Remember shop and dine locally too, as this will help our community to recover more quickly and allow us all to have a better and brighter future here in La Axarquia. Finally, I would like to wish my good friend and long-term The Sentinella advertiser Audrey a fantastic birthday on Friday 10th July. Starting at 7.30pm, everyone is welcome to come and celebrate her special day at The Plaza Lounge in Benamargosa, (see main advert on page 9). I’m sure it will be a great evening with some live music from ‘Miss Fortune’ — unfortunately no dancing will be allowed so we will all be seat-bopping instead!
Foxy Capers An urban fox had to be rescued after somehow managing to get its head stuck in a car wheel. He was spotted in a garden of Addiscombe Court Road in Croydon, South London, where the homeowners had been storing a spare wheel. They called the RSPCA and Fire Brigade for help as the fox was desperately trying to free himself. Thankfully, firefighters managed to rescue him using special equipment to cut through the metal. “The fox’s neck had swollen from where he’d been desperately tugging his head, so there was no way he was going to pull himself free,” said a RSPCA spokesman. “After the firemen had cut him free, I checked him over and as he wasn’t injured, I was able to release him.”
So here we are, back where we belong on the streets of Axarquia, and we wish you all an enjoyable, successful — and above all SAFE — Summer.

Naughty nurse A nurse in Russia has been given a telling off for ‘non-compliance with the requirements of medical clothing’ when wearing nothing but a bikini under her PPE. The unnamed nurse, who is in her 20s, was pictured on a coronavirus ward for male patients in Tula, 120 miles south of Moscow, and the picture was spotted online by her bosses. She was called in for a meeting where she said that she was too hot wearing her normal uniform underneath the plastic PPE she had been given. She also said that she didn’t realise how transparent the PPE was. The regional health ministry said that ‘a disciplinary sanction’ was applied to her. The exact nature of her reprimand is unknown.

Strange News (Continued) Ball sports Sports fans have been given guidance in the US about what is and isn’t acceptable to do with someone else’s balls. Laura Curran, a New York county executive, gave the advice ahead of the re-opening of public tennis courts. She said: “Every player, unless they’re from the same household, has to bring their own balls so that you don’t touch other people’s balls with your hands; you can kick their balls but you can’t touch them.” However, she then realised that what she was saying was full of innuendo. She paused before continuing: “Of course if you’re playing with someone in your household you can touch their balls, but to avoid confusion between whose balls are whose, you can use a marker to put someone’s initials on them.” Her colleagues could be heard tittering in the background as she delivered her press conference in Eisenhower Park, Nassau County.
Flip flop fetish A man has been arrested in Thailand for allegedly stealing his neighbours’ shoes in order to have sex with them. Theerapat Klaiya, 24, had a fetish for flip-flops and was found with a staggering 126 pairs that he had pinched from locals in Nonthaburi, central Thailand, police said. When Klaiya’s home was searched, officers found his sprawling collection of shoes that he claimed he had been collecting for more than two years. He allegedly said he cuddled and kissed them, stripping off and rubbing them on his body, before ‘having sex with them’. “He fully admitted stealing the sandals for lewd purposes, and in fact we subsequently found out the same had happened in another district last year,” said a police spokesman.

Random Jokes I was sitting in my garden waving to my neighbour for 10 minutes this morning before realising she was cleaning her windows. ------------------------------------------------------------Took the mother-in-law to the coast today, she moaned all the way there... in fact she was still moaning when I got her off the roof rack. ------------------------------------------------------------I went round my mate's house yesterday and his kids were running round the house screaming. He looked at me and said, ‘Don't ever have kids mate.’ I said, ‘Hard work?’ He said, ‘No, you're too darn ugly!’ ------------------------------------------------------------My wife was walking in her sleep so I put a vacuum cleaner in her hand. ------------------------------------------------------------People have often asked me if I know the difference between ignorance and indifference! Frankly I don’t know and I don’t care!

Interesting Facts... The Kingdom of Norway is famed for its mountains and spectacular fjord coastline, as well as its history as a seafaring power. Norway isn't called Norway! At least, not in Norwegian. Norway is the name of the country in the English language. In Norwegian, the country is called Norge. Norway has won more medals in the Winter Olympics than any other country, with 332 to date since the first Winter Olympics. Norwegians read more than any other population in the world, shelling-out an average of 500 NOK (US $76) a year per capita on books. According to The Happiness Research Institute, Norway is the second happiest country on earth, only beaten by Finland. Norway's supermarkets only sell beer and cider. To get any other alcoholic beverage you have to visit a specialised store called a Vinmonopolet.

Kinky!!! What does our name say about us? We all know our names say a lot about us, and there have been countless studies about which monikers are most likely to become rich, successful or intelligent. But a new piece of research claims to have found the name of the kinkiest people based on their name alone. After noticing a spike in sales in their sex and adult category since the start of the coronavirus lockdown, shopping marketplace OnBuy.com did some research to see if there was any correlation between a person's name and their sex life. It did so by studying internal data from the last three years, compiling a list of names based on the individuals shopping habits and surveying 3,000 of their customers. According to OnBuy those named Charlie and Jessica are classed as the kinkiest individuals based on their spending habits. As of May 2020, sales of adult toys more than
doubled at 115% compared to statistics from the previous year. It also found that from March 2020 to May 2020 there was an increase of 79% which ties in perfectly with the coronavirus lockdown period. Cas Paton, founder and CEO of OnBuy.com said: "When looking at our sales data it was clear to us that more people are buying adult friendly products during lockdown than ever before, a very interesting insight. "Therefore, we thought it would be intriguing to see which names are synonymous with adult product purchases onsite, and remarkably we discovered a clear correlation! What’s wrong with a jigsaw puzzle?

Tips To Stay Cool When The Heat Is On That time of the year has certainly crept up on us again; the time of the year when we are on a constant paranoia that we have wet patches! But there are ways to help keep your cool when everyone else around us is melting. Here’s how: 1. Invest in a fan Many Spanish women use them and they are something of a fashion statement among the older sorts, who tend to like to own fans to match the colour scheme of their entire wardrobe. If you are a man maybe a floral print fan isn’t such a good idea, but the little battery operated ones are just as effective. However, remember to keep an ample supply of batteries! 2. Women - invest in a parasol This is another great heat buster, which is becoming a more common sight as the years roll on. Men might want to stick to a cap.
important to replace all that fluid which leaves our bodies in the form of sweat! 4. Don’t wear many clothes and avoid black garments Black absorbs the heat and as such leaves the black clothes wearer feeling far hotter then his people who wear white. White is so much much more cool on more than one sense of the word! 5. Drink and eat hot foods This seems a most absurd way of keeping cool, but it does in fact work. Just think logically; when we sweat it cools the body down. 6. Don’t forget our 4 legged friends
3. Carry a bottle of water around with you at all times to prevent dehydration. Try to drink about 2 litres a day as it is very

Pound Struggles As Coronavirus & Brexit Concerns Continue Staying up to date with the latest currency news can help you time your transfers effectively, so find out what you should be looking out for in the month ahead… Latest currency news The pound euro exchange rate has been trading statically at €1.11, while the GBP/USD exchange rate has recovered from $1.22 to $1.25. EUR/GBP is unchanged at £0.89, but EUR/USD has pushed up from $1.08 to $1.12. What’s been happening? The pound has had some ups and downs over the past month, with news of the UK government’s plans to reopen the economy being offset by the growing risks of a no-deal Brexit, the latest coronavirus figures and speculation the Bank of England (BoE) may be exploring the possibility of negative interest rates. The euro, on the other hand, has enjoyed some notable support in recent weeks, with the single currency being bolstered by steps taken to support the Eurozone economy
through the coronavirus crisis. What do you need to look out for? All eyes will be on the BoE when it delivers its latest policy decision – any sign that negative rates will be introduced would be GBP-negative. Also influencing the pound will be the UK’s coronavirus statistics, with a stubbornly high number of new infections likely to continue dampening the appeal of Sterling. A key focus for EUR investors will be the EU summit, in which leaders will discuss the recovery fund with the aim of settling on deal by summer, with any setbacks here having the potential to weaken the euro. At Currencies Direct we’re here to talk currency whenever you need us, so get in touch if you want to know more about the latest news or how it could impact your currency transfers. Since 1996 we’ve helped more than 325,000 customers with their currency transfers, just pop into your local Currencies Direct branch or give us a call to find out more.

Have You Ever Asked Yourself Why? 1... WHY? Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left? BECAUSE When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since. 2... WHY? Why do ships and aircraft use 'mayday' as their call for help? BECAUSE This comes from the French word m'aidez meaning 'help me' - and is pronounced, approximately, 'mayday.' 3... WHY? Why are zero scores in tennis called 'love'? BECAUSE In France, where tennis became popular, the round zero on the scoreboard looked like an
egg and was called 'l'oeuf,' which is French for 'the egg.' When tennis was introduced in the US, Americans (naturally), mispronounced it 'love.' 4... WHY? Why do X's at the end of a letter signify kisses? BECAUSE In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfil obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous. 5... WHY? Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called passing the buck'? BECAUSE In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility of dealing, he would 'pass the buck' to the next player.

Have You Ever Asked Yourself Why? (Continued) 7... WHY? Why are people in the public eye said to be 'in the limelight'? BECAUSE Invented in 1825, limelight was used in lighthouses and theatres by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre, a performer 'in the limelight' was the Centre of attention. 8... WHY? Why is someone who is feeling great 'on cloud nine'? BECAUSE Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud. If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares. 9... WHY? In golf, where did the term 'Caddie' come from? BECAUSE When Mary Queen of Scots went to France
as a young girl, Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots game 'golf.' He had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when she returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced 'ca-day' and the Scots changed it into caddie. 10 ... WHY? Why are many coin collection jar banks shaped like pigs? BECAUSE Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of dense orange clay called 'pygg'. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as 'pygg banks.' When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a container that resembled a pig. And it caught on.

The ‘Middle Wife’ By An Anonymous 2nd Grade Teacher I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second-grade classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome. Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.' 'First, Mum and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mum's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.' She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.
'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mum starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. 'She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning. 'My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mum to lie down in bed like this.' Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall. 'And then, pop! My Mum had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!' This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much! 'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mum's play-center, so there must be a lot of toys inside there.'

Random Joke :) Bill, Jim, and Scott were at a convention together and were sharing a large suite on the top of a 75 storey skyscraper. After a long day of meetings they were shocked to hear that the lifts in their hotel were broken and they would have to climb 75 flights of stairs to get to their room. Bill said to Jim and Scott, “Let's break the monotony of this unpleasant task by concentrating on something interesting. I'll tell
jokes for 25 flights, and Jim can sing songs for 25 flights, and Scott can tell sad stories the rest of the way”. At the 26th floor Bill stopped telling jokes and Jim began to sing. At the 51st floor Jim stopped singing and Scott began to tell sad stories. "I will tell my saddest story first," he said. "I left the room key in the car!"

After Brexit: The Málaga Bar Association has now received the latest information on how Brexit will affect anyone who is thinking of moving to Spain after December, and for those of us who currently live here. Emma Romero of Málaga Legal attended the first information session and shares her insight with us. "This has put hopes of a further transition period until June 2021 to bed," she says. "From January, new arrivals will be treated as third country immigrants. They will have to apply for one of a number of visas to be allowed to live in Spain, either an entrepreneur or investor visa requiring the submission of a business plan, as a worker who is required to live in Spain because their job is listed as one that cannot be filled by a Spanish worker, or a "Golden" visa for those investing more than 500,000 in their home here." The alternative will be to live under the radar for three years and then attempt to prove some links to Spain, such as having been working (albeit illegally) or with some family or other strong ties to the area. This is known as an “arraigo”. As an immigration lawyer, Emma deals with these on a daily basis, but urges people to try to take the legal route from the start.
The end of the ERTE: when and how? For employers and employees alike, the end of the state of alarm is a worrying time. While your employer cannot easily dismiss you for six months after the end of your ERTE, it will not be plain sailing for many businesses and their employees. Talks are in progress about extending ERTEs until September and possible government grants to companies affected by the uncertainty. We are seeing companies taking steps to consolidate their financial position, and it is causing concern to many employees. Equally business owners are working out how best to ride the storm without compromising the integrity of their business or breaking the law. Knowing what they can claim and when will be integral to their future, and workplace inspections will ensure that the rules are followed. At this unprecedented time, whether you are an employee or a business owner, our advice is to keep on top of the latest developments, and to know your legal position. Born In 1900 Maybe we don't have it that bad. It’s a mess out there now. Hard to discern between what’s a real threat and what is just simple panic and hysteria. For a small amount of perspective at this moment, imagine you were born in 1900 On your 14th birthday, World War I starts, and ends on your 18th birthday. 22 million people perish in that war. Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until your 20th birthday. 50 million people die from it in those two years. Yes, 50 million! On your 29th birthday, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, the World GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet. And don’t try to catch your breath. On your 41st birthday, the United States is fully pulled into WWII.
Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war. Smallpox was epidemic until you were in your 40’s, as it killed 300 million people during your lifetime. At 50, the Korean War starts. 5 million perish. From your birth, until you are 55 you dealt with the fear of Polio epidemics each summer. You experience friends and family contracting polio and being paralyzed and/or die. At 55 the Vietnam War begins and doesn’t end for 20 years. 4 million people perish in that conflict. During the Cold War, you lived each day with the fear of nuclear annihilation. On your 62nd birthday you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, almost ended.

How Large Do You Like Yours? Size does matter. Results of a women’s survey on size Women’s response:
Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How did they endure all of that? When you were a kid in 1985 and didn’t think your 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school was. And how mean that kid in your class was. Yet they survived through everything listed above. Perspective is an amazing art. Refined and enlightening as time goes on. Let’s try and keep things in perspective.

COVID 19 The COVID 19 situation has been especially stressful for the flat earth society. Sales I rentals I Management Moving-to and Living-In Spain During Post Covid-19 If you look back over the years at past copies of this magazine you will find Buy A Home Spain’s adverts, month-after-month-after-month, mainly featuring local properties for sale or rent and editorial coverage of us offering other useful information. But for this edition, as we slowly (and hopefully, successfully) ease our way out of lockdown, we have decided to convey a different message. After all, to take an initial view of ALL of our properties for sale, all you have to do is look at our very user-friendly website, www.buyahomespain.com, go to ‘Property Search’ and enter your requirements. Instead of advertising properties, we are using this advertising space to offer our help, not only to our valued clients (sellers, buyers, lettors and renters - present, past and future), but also to anyone else out there who needs assistance. We also will be assisting our 3 chosen charities as much as possible, who need help at the moment more than ever. They are DEBRA (The Butterfly Children’s Charity), Cudeca (Cancer and other illnesses) and Axarquia Animal Rescue (saving lives and rehoming abused and abandoned animals). When we first bought a villa here in Torre del Mar back in 2001, we encountered many challenges, which of course, we overcame, but it would have been easier if we had someone who had been through the same challenges, to ‘hold our hand’. Any help that we did get was not cheap!

Sales I rentals I Management The Covid-19 pandemic has provided us all with additional and different challenges – from local, national and international businesses failing to good, honest individuals and families not being able to put food on their tables. We have decided, therefore, that as well as carrying out our normal tasks as a leading real estate company in Torre del Mar, our spacious offices opposite the bus station will also become a ‘Help Centre’, providing FREE advice and ‘hand-holding’ for the many challenges that may come your way. Maybe you want an NIE Number, Residencia, a Spanish driving licence or help with Social Security, we will help where we can. Obviously, when your questions need additional expertise, we will not give unqualified advice, but will introduce you to the relevant expert. As we have nearly 2 decades of dealing with local government officials, businesses, legal & financial advisors and tradesmen of all descriptions, we know where to point you to get the best and most economical solutions. But our time and knowledge will be given free of charge. All we ask from you is that you make a voluntary donation to one of the above charities. You can help others to make good property decisions People who are looking to sell, buy, let or rent, need all the help they can get, particularly in these trying economic times. Many of our clients have found the Testimonial Section on our website to be particularly useful because they were able to read the remarks made by people just like themselves who have already used our services. I am contacting many more of our clients to ask for their comments to add to the list we have on the website already. If you are reading this and you are already a client of ours who has not sent us a testimony, please do so to austin@buyahomespain.com. It will be very helpful for people who are active in the property market. Property Guides If you are thinking of selling or buying a property you can access our guides to selling and buying on our website, www.buyahomespain.com. Hopefully, these will answer many of the questions that arise as you consider whether or not to sell or buy and once you have made that decision they will help you know what to do next. Of course, we will be available in our offices to help as well. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all well as we move forward out of this crisis. Do You Need A Holiday? I am not sure exactly how it works, but this is amazingly accurate Read the full description before looking at the picture. The picture you are about to look at has two identical dolphins in it. It was used in a case study on stress levels at St. Mary's Hospital, London. Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical. A closely monitored scientific study revealed that, in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical, a person under stress would find differences in the two dolphins. The more differences a person finds between the dolphins, the more stress that person is experiencing. More Wine! Mum 'tipped over the edge' when she sees supermarket delivery's wine substitution After a long, busy day an exhausted mum reached for a bottle of wine only to notice it had been substituted by her supermarket for one with a lower alcohol content. The mum explained that in the midst of moving house, home-schooling her children and working from home as a result of coronavirus, she was stressed to say the least. So, like many of us, she had been treating herself to a couple of glasses of wine in the evening to unwind. But after her food shop was delivered, and she went to enjoy a glass of wine, she realised that the supermarket had swapped her alcohol of choice for one with a lower alcohol content, and admitted it 'tipped her over the edge.' She took to Mumsnet to explain: "So in the process of trying to move. It's taken us two years to get to this point and the past couple
of weeks have been a nightmare! "That, on top of everything else and getting under each others feet driving each other insane, has lead to a much needed glass or two of wine, most evenings. "Anyway, shopping is delivered and I think my day is looking up, as the driver proudly announces only one substitute! Instead of the usual 20 something. "It's one Sauvignon for another. No problem. "Or so I thought. Absolutely unacceptable." She shared a picture of the wine in question and made sure to highlight the part of the description which said the Sauvignon Blanc had a lower alcohol content. And fellow mums were quick to sympathise with her situation, with one suggesting an alternative drink - vodka. Don’t mess with the ladies’ wine!!

The humble squash — of which there are many types — is a nutrient-rich vegetable which offers various health benefits. Squash can reduce the risk of heart disease, as it contains negligible fat and almost no cholesterol. It also contains magnesium which has been shown to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. Magnesium, along with potassium, helps in reducing high blood pressure, whereas vitamin C, folate and beta-carotene levels aid in preventing the oxidation of cholesterol. Summer squash for weight loss is a very good choice, as it is fat-free and very low in calories. A cup of yellow squash contains about 36 calories, 7 grams carbohydrates, 1 gram protein and less than 1 gram fat besides being cholesterol-free. The vegetable also has a high antioxidant content which helps in eliminating free radicals from the body. Beta-carotene provides protection from pollutants and chemicals that can lead to cancer, and the vitamin C content also prevents premature ageing as well as inhibiting cell division. Squashes also contain vitamin A which provides protection against lung and oral cavity cancers. Yellow squash contains abundant amounts of manganese, which helps in maintaining healthy bone structure, calcium absorption, enzyme creation and bone-building as well as improving the mineral density of the spinal column. Summer squash contains high amounts of beta-carotene and lutein. Dietary lutein plays an important role in preventing the onset of cataracts and macular degeneration, which often leads to blindness. A cup of summer squash contains about 135 milligrams of beta carotene and 2400 micrograms of lutein. The abundant fibre content in yellow squash makes it beneficial for colon health. Fibre
helps in the excretion of toxins from the body and maintains colon health by preventing constipation. A cup of yellow squash provides about 2.52 grams of fibre. Yellow squash is effective in alleviating the symptoms of a condition called benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH. This disease is characterised by a problematically enlarged prostate gland that causes difficulties in both urinary and sexual functions. The high manganese content in summer squash has been proved to help end mood swings and cramps in women. The dietary fibre in this vegetable also helps you fight elevated blood sugar levels. This way, it can help resist the onset of diabetes. This vegetable is rich in potassium, which can help in relaxation of blood vessels and arteries. It effectively reduces high blood pressure. Potassium is also required by the body for fluid balance in tissues and cells. Beta-carotene, present in high levels in butternut squash, can help reduce the risk of developing asthma. This safe, non-toxic form of vitamin A is also vital for forming and maintaining healthy hair. It prevents hair breakage and promotes optimum growth.

Pebble Hunting In Torre Del Mar - Can You Find One? Local resident Marina GavinMills has always been involved in helping out for charity and recently has taken up a new hobby which involves painting pebbles — again for charity. Marina takes no credit for her own artistic ability as she tells us she takes all her designs from Pinterest and Facebook groups. She is loving her new-found hobby, though, especially as her ultimate goal is to raise awareness of childhood cancers and in particular DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontin Glioma). This causes highly aggressive and difficult-to-treat brain tumours found at the base of the brain. Marina stumbled across FB ‘#islastones’ during lockdown and after reading about little seven-year-old Isla and how she contracted the illness, and how Isla started decorating little pebbles which she gave to her friends to hide. Sadly, Isla passed away less than a year later but the hiding of stones continued in her memory, and now there are more than 75,000 members of the group all over the
world. Marina decided she wanted to help to raise this awareness and is hoping that the community of Torre del Mar will get involved too, by trying to find the pebbles which will be left around the area. If you are lucky enough to find one, you can either keep it or leave it somewhere else for other people to find. Marina hopes that people will enjoy finding the pebbles as much as she is enjoying making them. Marina says, “If they bring a smile to someone’s face then I’m happy.” If you are lucky enough to find one of the pebbles, Marina would love it if you could take a photo of yourself with the pebble — or just the pebble if you are camera shy — and we will publish them next month in The Sentinella. There will be about 30 to find during July. Happy hunting!

s Now al b e l Ce en & ty Kend Th Felici British actress Felicity Kendal — whose nickname is ‘Foo’ — has been on our screens for more than 50 years, often playing “cute” characters, but she is also an accomplished and respected classical theatre actress. Born in 1946 in Warwickshire, Felicity was brought up in India where her parents, actors Geoffery Kendal and Laura Liddell, toured for many years with a travelling classical theatre group. She almost died of typhoid in Calcutta when she was 17. Her father, a distant relative of Melvyn Bragg, took his professional name from his birthplace — Kendal, Westmorland, England. Young Felicity first appeared on stage as an infant and attended local convent schools. She grew up doing backstage chores and filling in on stage as boys. By her teen years, Felicity was appearing in important Shakespearean roles. Family friends James Ivory and Ismail Merchant fashioned their fictional film ShakespeareWallah (1965) around the Kendal troupe and gave Felicity the leading role. She returned to England following the film but struggled for a number of years getting work. She appeared on television opposite John Gielgud and soon afterwards, was given the role that made her famous — Barbara Good in the TV series The Good Life, about a couple who decide to live off the land in their decidedly suburban home. She appeared in all 30 episodes, which extended over four series and two specials from 1975 to 1978. Several other TV programmes followed, but she made her most important contributions on
the stage. She created roles in a number of plays by Tom Stoppard — with whom she had a highly publicised affair throughout the 1990s — and continued her lifelong work in Shakespeare, playing Desdemona to Paul Scofield's Othello and a memorable Viola in a BBC production of Twelfth Night (1980). Felicity continues to perform regularly in London's West End, and has appeared in numerous TV roles, including the detective series Rosemary and Thyme alongside Pam Ferris. She has been married and divorced twice — to Drewe Henley and Michael Rudman — and has a son by each of her husbands: Charley Henley, born in 1973, and Jacob Rudman, born in 1987. She was brought up as a Catholic, but converted to Judaism at the time of her second marriage. Felicity has received three Variety Club awards: for “Most Promising Newcomer” (1976); “Best Actress” (1979) and “Woman of the Year” in 1984. She was awarded the 1989 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actress for her performances in William Shakespeare's play, "Much Ado About Nothing" and Anton Chekhov's play, "Ivanov." In 1981, she received the “Rear of the Year” award, which subsequently became an annual event. She participated in the eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2010, partnered with Vincent Simone, finishing eighth out of 14 celebrities. She once said: “I don't treasure things much — just people and pets.”
To advertise call 664 210 468 or email sales@thesentinella.com Mind matters Actor Ross Kemp has opened up about his heartbreak over Barbara Windsor's Alzheimer's battle. Barbara, 82, played Peggy Mitchell on EastEnders for more than 20 years, with Ross playing the role of son Grant. Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease six years ago, and Ross recently said that she "clearly has no idea who I am." Documentary-maker Ross has filmed a two-part series for ITV, Ross Kemp: Living With Dementia, which sees him try to get to grips with the disease that affects around 850,000 people in the UK. While Barbara didn't take part in the documentary itself, her husband — and primary carer — Scott Mitchell, did talk to Ross about the condition, telling him he has put up "memory boards" for Barbara to help her along and remind her who she is. Ant and Dec “sorry.” Ant and Dec have issued an apology after previously using blackface during episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway. The Geordie duo — Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 44 — imitated people of colour in a number of episodes of the hit ITV show in the early 2000s. In 2003, the pair dressed up as Jamaican women named Patty and Bernice as they tricked the cast of Emmerdale in one of their 'Undercover' segments. Speaking in a clip on the Saturday Night Takeaway DVD, Ant said at the time: "It was funny sitting in a room, learning Jamaican, picking dresses and trying on false nails. These were things I didn’t think I’d ever, ever do." They later impersonated another ethnic minority, when Ant dressed up as an Arab man during a sketch in 2005. The pair — who also host Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! — have now issued the apology to their 6.8million Twitter followers. They wrote: "We realised that this was wrong and want to say that we are sincerely sorry to everyone that was offended.”

TOWIE taunt Reality TV star Vas J Morgan has accused The Only Way Is Essex of "systematic racism" in a lengthy statement. The 31-year-old starred on the hit TV show for four years and has now claimed he has been denied the same treatment as his white cast mates, and wasn't allowed to show sides of his personality which were not "angry, aggressive or negative." He recently took to his Instagram page to share the statement with his 468,000 followers. Vas, also a magazine editor, said: "While I have always been proud to be one of the only black and gay reality TV stars on British Television, I have often felt conflicted over the way I was treated and the way I was portrayed. “During the four years I filmed the show, I repeatedly asked producers to allow me to show other sides of my personality — such as my funny, sensitive and loyal side — but I was consistently put into situations that perpetuated the same racial stereotype that has been used to oppress and control black people.” Fern friends Author and TV star Fern Britton, best known for presenting This Morning from 1999 to 2009, recently opened up about her split from husband Phil Vickery after almost 20 years of marriage. Speaking to The Mail On Sunday's Weekend magazine, the mother-of-four spoke about her separation, after announcing the split on social media. She told the publication: "I knew it was important not to live unhappily." The former This Morning star, 62, went on to say: "We were the best of friends. And I miss that friendship. "But I'm sure, once all the tricky bits have been sorted out, we can be friends again." The former couple are parents to Winnie, 18, and Fern also has children from her first marriage to Clive Jones: twins Jack and Harry, 26, and Grace, 23.

Random Jokes “Do you believe in life after death?” the boss asked one of his employees. “Yes, Sir.” the employee replied. “Well, then, that makes everything just fine,” the boss went on. “After you left early yesterday to go to your grandmother’s funeral, she stopped by to see you.” ------------------------------------------------------------A young businessman had just started his own firm. He rented a beautiful office and had
it furnished with antiques. Sitting there, he saw a man come into the outer office. Wishing to appear the hot shot, the businessman picked up the phone and started to pretend he had a big deal working. He threw huge figures around and made giant commitments. Finally he hung up and asked the visitor, “Can I help you?” The man said, “Yeah, I’ve come to activate your phone lines.”

Who Wants To Talk About Covid Again!! So we were sitting in our office, now that we are open again, wondering what interesting and fascinating subject we could write about this month in The Sentinella, that is NOT about Covid! Are we not all sick of it? The problem is that it is still here and everything in our field of work, and everything for our vendors and potential buyers, is still affected by it! One such subject, and one which has been on the lips of many of our buyers and vendors recently, is that of house prices. We are being asked, especially by potential buyers, if the prices are coming down as a result of the crisis. So far, I have to say, we have not seen a queue of vendors waiting to request a price drop, but we have been witness to very keen price negotiations for those deals that have taken place during and post Covid lockdown. It is clear that receiving an offer now on one’s property is an opportunity that cannot be turned down lightly. It is vital to work on that opportunity, to be flexible, whilst also asking the potential
buyer to be reasonable. It is all about having a good relationship with the buyer and good communication between both parties to reach a deal that is acceptable to both parties. It is complicated by the fact that everyone not only wants a bargain, but also wants all the paperwork tip top and squeaky clean at the same time, which often means spending money before a sale. I think in summary we are likely to see more buyers demanding keener prices over the coming months. Deciding on a price at which to market a property is all about good planning, starting with what one would like to take home after all expenses and working backwards, to achieve a final price. If you are thinking of selling but are unsure about pricing, do get in contact. We are happy to help you work out the right price and the right moment to market your property. New Normality Hopefully, you’ll be reading The Sentinella today without the need for technology. It’ll be in your hands or, as the slogan says, the little mag will be in your bag. It’s July and we are in new normality. The empty skies of the last 3 and a half months will now show signs of aircraft with the white contrails crisscrossing the blue. Perhaps you feel apprehensive and a little bit scared at the arrival of visitors? Perhaps, you feel relief and hope? However, we are not normal yet, we are newly normal and some of those restrictions we grew accustomed to are here to stay for just a little while longer. I asked around to gauge opinion on the most loathed and here’s the top two that my simple survey revealed… 1. The Mask Coming firmly first was the dreaded mask. It didn’t seem to matter whether you’d had one custom made or gone for the cheap paper variety, the mask is not a welcome addition to our lives. Why? Worn with glasses, it is almost an instrument of torture suffocating and blinding the poor wearer. Glasses get misted up making collisions with others far more likely. It’s difficult to measure 1.5 metres when you can’t see where you are going. The mask is hot, restrictive and uncomfortable. You have to remember to take it everywhere like you used to take an ID when you were 18 and could legally drink in the UK. Your face tan will be two shades this summer and you’ll have strap marks round your wrist. Though there are many ways to visibly carry your mask. There’s the under chin method for easy application in the event of a crowd. The wrist, the elbow. Though the elbow is pretty useless if you’re going to elbow bump a greeting as you’ll contaminate your mask. There’s the top of the head like a hair band and I even saw someone with it on their shoulder like a handbag.
2. Plastic gloves Not quite as universally detested as the mask or as necessary it seems, plastic gloves seem to irk us because of the huge range of quality available at our supermarkets. Lidl and Aldi are the clear winners here. Their gloves are streets ahead in superiority and strength. Whilst the idea is a once only use, I could easily recycle these beauties for cleaning my bathroom or exterior painting the house or maybe performing surgery. However, in hot Andalusia, my only complaint would be their quality makes then very hot to wear and my palms are certainly sweaty from the experience. Mercadona’s and Supersol’s gloves are much flimsier. If you sanitise before application, you have a struggle of mammoth proportion to get your digits safely into place. The struggle is real and the supermarket’s entrance is filled with poor customers whose hands will not conform gracefully. Dia gave up early on finger shaped gloves. They initially provided plastic bags with a picture of a hand on just in case you were confused. Now cost cutting means you get just a couple of plastic bags. Wearing plastic bags and trying to open plastic bags at the fruit and vegetable section is impossible. I’ve had to be rescued by staff who handle my bag opening thereby making sanitation useless. Add to this, trying to access their loyalty App means removing the bag to unlock my phone nullifying any health benefits. Special mention goes to hand sanitiser’s skin drying quality, beaches with so many regulations but no real way to enforce them or trying to work out whether it’s 1.5m or 2m distance and what exactly that distance looks like. Luckily, I’m just 1.5m tall or short so the other half just needs to lie me on the floor to work out social distancing. Written by Grimble

) : a h a Jokes h An old, old man loved to fish and spent as much time as he could on the river. He was sitting in his boat the other day when he heard a voice say, ‘Quick. Quick! Pick me up!’ He looked around but couldn’t see anyone. He thought that he was imagining it, when he heard the voice say, ‘Go on. Just pick me up.’ He looked in the water and there, floating on a leaf, was a big green frog. The man said, ‘Are you talking to me?’ The frog replied, ‘Yes, I’m talking to you. Pick me up and kiss me and I’ll turn into the most beautiful woman you have ever seen – and I’ll become your bride.’ The man looked at the frog for a short time, picked it up carefully…and placed it in its front breast pocket. The frog said alarmingly, ‘What? Are you nuts? Didn’t you hear me? Kiss me and I will be your beautiful wife.’ He looked down into his pocket and said, ‘Nah. At my age, I’d rather have a talking frog ------------------------------------------------------------When I was a boy, my mother would send me down to the shops with a £1. I’d come back with a bag of potatoes, 3 bottles of milk, a block of cheese, a packet of tea and 6 eggs. You could never do that now, there’s too many security cameras!! ------------------------------------------------------------I want to start a new company that makes both condoms and coffins. The slogan would be; “We got you covered whether you’re coming or going!” ------------------------------------------------------------Some bloke hit me over the head with a power tool. I was minding my own business, then ‘Bosch!’ ------------------------------------------------------------The dog ran off last night, so there I was
walking around the park looking for 20 minutes but I couldn’t find him. My wife said I should look harder, so I shaved my head and got a tattoo, but still can’t find the dog. ------------------------------------------------------------One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his t-shirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, “What setting do I use on the washing machine?” “It depends,” I replied. “What does it say on your shirt?” He yelled back, '“University of Oklahoma.” And they say blondes are dumb... ------------------------------------------------------------Q: If you see a Liverpool fan on a bike, why should you never swerve to hit him? A: It might be your bike ------------------------------------------------------------Q: What has Old Trafford on a Saturday afternoon at 5.45pm got in common with Wormwood Scrubs? A: They are both full of cockneys trying to get out. ------------------------------------------------------------Three old football fans are in a church praying for their teams. The first one asks, “Oh Lord, when will England next win the World Cup? God replies: “In the next five years.” “But I’ll be dead by then,” says the man. The second one asks. “Oh Lord when will Tottenham win the Premier League?” God answers. “I will be dead by then!” ------------------------------------------------------------A blind man with his guide dog walks into a pub. He stands in the middle of the pub, picks his dog up and starts swinging it around his head. The landlord rushes over and asks “What do you think you are playing at mate”? The blind man replies “Just looking around.”

Jokes h a ha A tourist walked into a Brighton antique shop. After looking around for a while, he noticed a very life-like bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but it was so striking that he decided to buy it anyway. He took it to the owner and said: "How much is this bronze rat?" The owner replied, "It's €12 for the rat and €100 for the story." The tourist gave the owner his €12 and said, "I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story." As he walked off down the street, he noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the sewers and begun following him. This was a little disconcerting, so he started to walk a little faster, but within a couple of blocks the swarm of rats had grown to hundreds, and they were all squealing and screeching in a very menacing way. He increased his speed and ran on towards the beach and as he ran, he looked behind him and saw the rats now numbered in their MILLIONS and they were running faster & faster. By now very concerned, he ran to down the pier and threw the bronze rat far out into the water. Amazingly, the millions of real rats jumped into the water after it and were all drowned. The man walked back to relate all this to the shop owner, who said: "Ah, you've come back for the story then?" "No," said the tourist, "I came back to see if you've got a West Ham supporter and anything French!" ------------------------------------------------------------A fleeing Taliban, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghanistan desert when he saw something far off in the distance. Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the object, only to find a little old Jewish man at a small stand selling ties.
The Taliban asked, "Do you have water?" The Jewish man replied, "I have no water, would you like to buy a tie? They are only €5." The Taliban shouted, "Idiot! I do not need an overpriced tie. I need water! I should kill you, but I must find water first”. "OK," said the old Jewish man. "It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie and that you hate me. I will show you that I am bigger than that. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find a lovely restaurant. It has all the ice cold water you need. Muttering, the Taliban staggered away over the hill. Several hours later he staggered back. "Your f****** brother won't let me in without a tie." ------------------------------------------------------------Hickory dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock, the clock struck one and smashed his head in! ------------------------------------------------------------Simple Simon met a pie man going to the fair. s e p o c s o Hor by Juanita Banana of Banana Moon www.AbsoluteAxarquia.com ARIES: March 21-April 20 You’re a beacon of optimism as July begins but it feels like the end of the world a few days later. You can get a grip and cast out these demons with your head staying clear to mid-month. Your goals are realistic and your victories are sweet TAURUS: April 21-May 21 You have until late on the 17th to fulfill ambitions, drink in surrounding beauty and talk people into positions that work for you. On the 11th and 12th there’s enough of you and what you love to satisfy everyone that matters. Seekers and builders can look forward to a great week from there GEMINI: May 22-June 21 The universe challenges you for the first three days of July with some of this coming from inside yourself. You have many friends but the bad guys have interfered once too often and should be driven away CANCER: June 22-July 22 You’re at the height of your powers but want something more. Colleagues and friends are loyal as you consistently meet their expectations. Break out of a trap on the 6th by surrendering one thing to gain another. New experiences will make you shine
LIBRA: September 23 - October 22 During the first week of July, there are moods swings. Maybe you are stable but somebody close to you isn’t. You see the light even if you can’t adjust it and find moderate relief during the second week. After this you may be stuck with someone whose caution makes you look like a risk-taker SCORPIO: October 23 - November 21 You’re still at the top of your game as July commences but responsibility creeps in, forcing an unpopular choice. Take this as a much-needed refueling stop. Starting on the 21st, you’re in a cosmic safety zone for the rest of July Scorpio, go wild with impunity SAGITTARIUS: November 22 - December 21 You have two high points in early July. The first one begins the month and runs through to the 5th. People love you and will do anything to help. Then there’s a wake-up call, followed by another brush with fame and improvement from the 8th to the 10th. The last weekend of the month kicks off a stratospheric week where you once again reign CAPRICORN: December 22 - January 20 Count your wealth in a world that intoxicates you naturally. Your conscience demands that you do something meaningful with your life, for which you find the answer by the 11th/12th. Expect to wade through some logistical and ethical considerations
LEO: July 23-August 23 Politely brush off people who assume you’re interested just because you are there. By the second week of July you’re situation is a better fit but towards the end of this period you need to review past decisions. Life improves after this and the critics and judges move away
AQUARIUS: January 21 - February 19 You’re in a wonderful space for the first ten days of July, ready to stand in line for anything. On the 4th/5th you’re an unexpected winner or accidental hero. You’re aware of shortages for the less fortunate
VIRGO: August 24-September 22 You appear to be trying too hard at one moment, then being successful without trying the next. Becoming activist instead of bystanding brings mixed results but also new elements and experiences. You prefer to acccept responsibility than blame
PISCES: February 20 - March 20 You should not be discouraged. Whatever doesn’t come to you will be replaced or rendered irrelevant by events that illuminate your life between the 2nd and 12th. There are no murky illusions, only brilliant certainties. You’re free to be whoever you’d rather be
