m Fro Ed... the Wow! How hot has it been this summer?! We appeared to having it fairly nice and then BANG… there have been days − which felt like weeks − of temperatures soaring up to 40F; all very nice for the lucky holidaymaker who can sit around the pool all day, jumping in to cool off whenever they like, complete with a bevvie in hand, but not so nice for us workers − although some have that worse than others too. For the likes of me, who have access to an air-conditioned room to work in, it isn’t so bad, but just think about all the tradesmen and women having to do hard manual labour in this heat. I salute them, as I honestly don’t know how they carry on doing it. I had the joys of doing the holidaymaker thing myself a few weeks back in the lovely Mallorca − albeit it seems a lifetime ago now − and boy did I relax! In fact, I didn’t do anything BUT relax − my days consisted of waking up, having breakfast, doing the whole pool/beach thing, eating lunch, enjoying more pool before drinks and dinner, then sleep …. and repeat all over again the following day. It was bliss! Although the five days sped past far too quickly, to my surprise it actually felt like I had been away for a week or more, which was most definitely a Brucie bonus! Whilst there I had to venture into Magaluf for the evening/morning, and I was quite surprised that everyone was so well behaved. It was nothing like I had read in the media, but perhaps that was down to me leaving a bit early – ie; around 2.30am! Anyway, all that is memories put behind me now, so onward and upward to enjoy the rest of the summer before the kids go back to school.

One of my favourite nights of the year is 15th August. This year I spent the day in Almunecar on the beach, waiting for the firework show. Every year I go, and every year I am surprised by the magnificent show that is put on; even though the guy who stages it is a world champion in that sphere, he still manages to pull something extra-special out of the bag each time.

Strange News Have a look on Sentinella Axarquia FB page to see this year’s videos and be sure to put the date in your diary for next year − it really is spectacular! Once seen, you will get the bug just as I did. So this month you may have noticed on the front cover that we are celebrating our 15th year! Can you believe this ‘Little Mag’ that once started out as a small eight-page pamphlet has grown into the success it is today. ‘The Sentinella’ has three strong editions all along the Costa and our main aim is to produce, design, distribute and recommend all the businesses to the maximum number of people that we can, month on month and for many of our regular advertisers, year on year, making their businesses a huge part of the success story too. In addition, our committed aim is to provide you, the reader, with an informative, entertaining magazine each month -- one which you can’t wait to pick up and scour from cover to cover! So, on that note I would like to thank all our present and past advertisers, readers and friends − many whom have become great friends for life − for their continued support during these past 15 years; here's to the next 15 years! Have a great September!

Exercise agony Two teenage girls were rushed to hospital with kidney damage after a three-hour squatting match got out of hand. Xiao Tang, 19, did over 1000 squats to be crowned champion despite admitting she was ‘not used to exercise’. She had challenged a friend to the exercise match over video chat and both refused to back down. The duo squatted to see who had the best stamina, but the stunt backfired when they woke up the next day with aching legs and brown urine. Xiao told China Press: ‘We both did not want to lose and so we kept trying to beat each other. ‘Something was wrong in the morning. First of all, my leg was not only sore, but I couldn’t bend it. Then I went to the bathroom and my urine was brown.’ Xio knew her symptoms were not a good sign and sought medical treatment. She was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a serious condition caused by skeletal muscle injury. Dead muscle fibres – in this case, due to extreme levels of exercise – are released into the bloodstream, which can lead to kidney failure or even death. She was rushed into intensive care, where she was hooked up to an IV drip to recover. When she rang her friend, Xio discovered that she too had been hospitalised with the same condition. Medical officer Dr Bruce Cohen told Live Science getting this condition through extreme exercise is rare. ‘Listen to your body,’ he advised. ‘Don’t be stupid.’

Strange News (Continued) Dare-devil We all go a bit wild on holiday, but one holidaymaker left all his inhibitions at home as he deliberately drove his car into the sea. The bizarre moment was caught on one of the CCTV cameras at a ski-boating club on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast in South Africa, after a pal of the man allegedly dared him to pull off the reckless stunt. The Volkswagen Golf sped across the sand before being submerged by the waves. The driver was then seen opening the door and walking out of the car, with witnesses saying he smiled and gave onlookers the thumbs up to assure them he was okay. The car had to be towed out by a tractor following the stunt. The earth moves! A woman whose orgasms are triggered by things as minor as potholes and aircraft turbulence says the condition has ruined her life. The mum, a widow from Glasgow, suffers from PGAD (Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder) which affects an estimated one per

cent of women. ‘Most of the time I feel like I am sitting on an ant’s nest,’ said Maria, 61. ‘There’s times where it’s just a tickle all day, but then something sets it off and it’s a full-blown orgasm. ‘Ninety per cent of my life has been wrecked and the other ten per cent is not so great either.’ Cabin pong A report of a possible odour in an aeroplane cabin diverted a London-bound flight to Boston recently, American Airlines has revealed. A statement from the airline said the Airbus A330-300, with 154 passengers and a crew of 12, landed in Boston around an hour and a half after taking off from Philadelphia. The aircraft was bound for London’s Heathrow Airport. The airline said no passengers had complained of illness. A maintenance team was reviewing the issue after the aeroplane arrived at a gate but the origin of the odour remains a mystery.

Nutrition Fact

Tommy Cooper Classics

After an extensive review of the research on literature, here’s the final word on nutrition and health:

Some silly sayings from Mr. Cooper

1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

So I went to buy a watch, and the man in the shop said, “Analogue.” I said, “No, just a watch.”

2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. Conclusion: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you!

You invented Tipp Ex, correct me if I’m wrong.

“My mate is in love with two school bags. His bisatchel.” “I was reading this book today, The History Of Glue, and I couldn’t put it down.” “I phoned the local ramblers club today, and this bloke just went on and on.” I phoned my local builders today, I said to them, “Can I have a skip outside my house?” He said, “I’m not stopping you.”

Marriage Love & Marriage, Love & Marriage...... I recently read that love is entirely a matter of chemistry. That must be why my wife treats me like toxic waste. When a man steals your wife, there is no better revenge than to let him keep her. After marriage, husband and wife become two sides of a coin; they just can’t face each other, but still they stay together.

“I don’t worry about terrorism. I was married for two years.” “There’s a way of transferring funds that is even faster than electronic banking. It’s called marriage.” “I’ve had bad luck with both my wives. The first one left me, and the second one didn’t.”

By all means marry. If you get a good wife, you’ll be happy. If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher. Women inspires us to great things, and prevents us from achieving them. The great question... Which I have not been able to answer... Is, “What does a woman want?” I had some words with my wife, and she had some paragraphs with me.

La Lumbre - Arroceria - Braseria Restaurant La Lumbre is a newly opened restaurant in Torre del Mar, located at 13, Pasaje Timon. It was definitely time to give it a go! Set just off the main Avenida Andalucia in a pedestrianised street, La Lumbre awaits you. This new barbecue restaurant ‘La Lumbre Arroceria - Braseria’ is great for anyone who loves meat. Owner Antonio seated us in the air-conditioned restaurant, which is separate to the actual bar area. We were given a choice of menus in English or Spanish — my initial thought was that there didn’t seem to be much choice on the menu, but in fact, it covers most things you could possibly want, with the exception of fish. There are a few options for any vegetarians among you — for example salads and risotto with mushrooms, etc. However the majority of the menu is meat. Saying that, we did order the risotto with mushrooms — a dish for a minimum of two people — which came in a big pot placed at the end of the table. It was really tasty with a selection of different types of mushrooms and

fresh shavings of parmesan. We also ordered the ribs with BBQ sauce. Don’t let the price mislead you here — this is a huge full rack of ribs for just 12 euros! The ribs were really meaty, juicy and tasty, with plenty of BBQ sauce. As if the rack was not enough, this came served with either chips or pobre potatoes and vegetables. La Lumbre also serves lovely tapas at just 1.50€ for a cana and a wide choice of tapa or tapa and soft drink for 1.80€. They also have breakfasts available from 8am including a full English. The restaurant is closed on Thursdays, and open Sunday — Wednesday 8am - 5pm, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8am — 5pm and 8pm til close. It also has a separate room for functions or private hire. See main advert on page 6

Stupid People This selection of brain cell-less beings deserve a Stupid Award 1. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat-cutting machine and, after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger. The chef’s claim was approved. 2. A man who shovelled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her. 3. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there for a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the

staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn’t discovered for three days. 4. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit. 5. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, “Yes, officer, that’s her. That’s the lady I stole the purse from.”

Nectarines and peaches are close cousins, so many health benefits are common to both fruits. Nectarines are great sources of beta-carotene, vitamin C and lutein. They help improve skin health and are rich in fibre too, aiding digestion both mechanically and by helping to feed the probiotics in the gu). This helps fight against several abdominal ailments, including irritable bowel syndrome as well as stomach and colon cancers. The potassium in nectarines can help manage blood pressure levels. Beta-carotene and vitamin C are powerful antioxidants that strengthen immunity, and lutein can reduce the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. One nectarine contains about 150 micrograms of lutein. A higher intake of lutein and zeaxanthin can decrease the risk of cataracts and can also help prevent another eye ailment called retinitis pigmentosa, which is a group of eye disorders causing progressive damage to the retina. Lutein and zeaxanthin can also help vision issues related to dim light or when glare could be a problem. This could be attributed to their ability to filter the blue light (from UV radiation) and offer antioxidant power. These sumptuous fruits are low in calories and have a low glycaemic index, which means they can be a go-to food for diabetics as well, when paired with adequate protein and fat. They contain copper that is involved with energy metabolism and may help you stay active for longer. The quercetin and chlorogenic acid in nectarines were found to stall cancer cell proliferation. In a study conducted at the Texas A&M University, mice were given an extract of the fruit. The findings stated that the fruit had

provoked the most aggressive of the cancer cells to kill themselves. The study also showed the fruits with the most red on their skin contained the highest cancer-fighting properties. According to another study, the intake of a minimum of two servings of nectarines can cut the risk of breast cancer in post-menopausal women. The nectarine fruit is also one of those carbs that raise blood sugar levels slowly. The phenolic compounds in nectarines not only help fight diabetes but also prevent heart disease by reducing the oxidation of bad cholesterol. The natural substances in nectarines fight inflammation and create a domino effect that helps fight obesity. They can also prevent metabolic syndrome that would otherwise lead to weight gain. According to a Spanish study, the phenolics and flavonoids in nectarines contribute to their wonderful antioxidant properties. Another study showed the antioxidants in nectarines can reduce oxidative damage and promote longevity. Consumption of the fruit was also linked to DNA damage repair. Vitamin C also plays a role in the synthesis of collagen, the protein essential for skin’s integrity. This protein is an important part of the connective tissue that holds the skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and blood vessels together. It combats skin ageing, accelerates wound healing and heals dry skin.

gain confidence quickly. Seaside Chatty meetup conversation groups: Currently 1 hour per week, this group of mixed nationalities are wanting to practice and improve their Spanish vocabulary - from complete beginners’ level through to intermediate/high-level speakers. English Classes: Offered to the Spanish – young pupils aged 4-16 plus adults from absolute beginners (initiation) through to advanced level and B1/B2/C1 exam preparations. Why choose Trilingo Idiomas? Well, because we are a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced group of owners / teachers all wanting to share our vast knowledge and experiences to give all our students the best learning experience possible. Student reviews: Rachel: Very warm and friendly and accomodates our personal requirements. Gwendolyn: Nice atmosphere, especially at Momentos Café for the Meetup group. Gail: The whole experience is fantastic, very friendly and professional. Desirée is a great teacher, especially patient with us "old timers", learning such a lot. Would highly recommend the classes, come and join us. Classes for all abilities. Catherine: The Teacher is lovely. She speaks to us in Spanish but explains things and goes at an easy pace so you can ask questions. Julliet: Would highly recommend these classes which are suitable for all abilities. The teaching is friendly and adaptable with lessons in subjects that you will need when living in Spain. We have been to many different classes and find this way of learning is easy and we are leaning a lot. Thank you Donna, Mark

Too Hot For Dinner? Is it too hot in sunny Spain for an English Sunday Roast? Not on your Nellie!! Every time I visit this lovely country I always search The Sentinella magazine for a restaurant that serves the forementioned roast dinner. My family chose TK’s Bar and Restaurant in Torrox Costa situated at Laguna Beach. It is run by Thomas & Kerstin where there’s a lovely shaded terrace. They serve a 3 course meal with a choice of beef, lamb, pork or chicken and if you want to guarantee your desired meat, then bookings are strongly advised. For starters you are served with a tureen of homemade soup of the day, so your party can savour more than one bowl. For mains, as there were 4 meats, we chose one of each, which come out on separate dishes, as with all the food so you can help yourselves.

The meats were perfectly cooked, full of flavour and oh so tender and above all, plenty of it! Along with these delicious meats, you are served with ample roast potaoes, a selection of 4 veggies, a yorkshire pudding each, gravy boats and the accompaning sauces. Absolutely fantastic!! We all stuffed our faces and did our best to finish. We did very well but still asked for a doggy bag of the remaining beef and lamb. But that’s not all! Oh no! After your fill, Tom came out with a choice of desserts. On this occasion crepes with cointreau and ice cream, rice pudding, creme caramel and Vienetta - Brilliant!! So such a fantastic Sunday Lunch all washed down with a couple of glasses of wine capped off a wonderful dining experience. TK’s is definitely on the list for a re-visit! See advert below

Guess What It Is?

Random Jokes

Hazard a guess and see if you’re right. Clue: They can be long or short.

Four married guys go fishing. After an hour, the following conversation took place:

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a big one.

First guy: “You have no idea what I had to do to be able to come out fishing this weekend. I had to promise my wife that I will paint every room in the house next weekend.”

Michael J. Fox has a small one. Madonna doesn’t have one. The Pope has one but doesn’t use it. Clinton uses his all the time. Bush is one. Mickey Mouse has an unusual one. Liberace never used his on women. Jerry Seinfield is very, very proud of his. Cher claims that she took on three. Turn to page 108 for the answer.

Second guy: “That’s nothing, I had to promise my wife that I will build her a new deck for the pool.” Third guy: “Man, you both have it easy! I had to promise my wife that I will remodel the kitchen for her.” They continue to fish when they realised that the fourth guy has not said a word. So they asked him. “You haven’t said anything about what you had to do to be able to come fishing this weekend. What’s the deal?” Fourth guy: “I just set my alarm for 05.30am. When it went off, I shut off the alarm, gave the wife a nudge and said, “Fishing or Sex...” and she said, “Wear plenty of sun-block.”

Foods That Resemble Organs It’s uncanny isn’t it? Tomatoes help keep the heart healthy. They have four chambers just like the human heart. The walnut has all the same wrinkles and folds that make it look like a brain, it is also the same shape. Kidney beans are good for keeping blood pressure low and blood sugar levels steady. Carrott slices when looked at end on look like an eye. Carrotts being high in vitamin A helps keep the eyes in good condition. Rhubarb looks similar to a bone. Rhubarb contains nutrients that supports bone building and bone strength. Mushrooms when sliced in half look like the shape of a human ear. Mushrooms have been known to improve hearing abilites, as they contain vitamin D which is particularly good for the tiny bones in the ears.

Difference Between An NIE Number And Certificate Of Residence What is an NIE number? Is it the same as a residence number? Which one proves residence in Spain? These are some of the most common questions that a foreigner may have when coming to Spain. The NIE number, in Spanish “NUMERO DE IDENTIDAD DE EXTRANJERO, is basically a tax identification Number for foreigners, which is issued by the Police. It is a personal number which will always remain the same and will be used for example, when buying a property or a car, and when paying the purchase taxes. It is not possible to purchase a property in Spain without an NIE number. Getting an NIE number does not allow foreigners to reside in Spain. Although EU citizens can live in Spain, people of other nationalities would need to apply for residence in Spain (a different more much complicated procedure than getting an NIE number). Please also note that any foreigner who lives in Spain must acquire a Residence

Certificate, which is different from an NIE number and is a legal document confirming that a person is residing in Spain. This document is also issued by the Police. EU citizens can get a Residence Certificate relatively easily, but other nationalities can only get it by appling to a Spanish Embassy in their country of origin. Using a solicitor can make a difference when applying for any of these documents as they will know which forms need to be filled in, the steps to be taken and the correct places to submit the applications. A solicitor will guide you throughout this bureaucracy, so that applying for a Residence Certificate does not become a nightmare. See main advert opposite

A-Z Of Spain Following on from The Sentinella’s journey through the alphabet to discover the joys of Spain. This month we bring you the letter P. Paella A golden rice dish with sea food and meat (namely rabbit) thrown in. In Andalucia, paella is usually served on a Sunday, or at fiestas and picnics. Spanish rice dishes originate in the eastern region of Spain, around Valencia, where rice has been cultivated since the Moors introduced it to Europe after the eighteenth century. In Valencia peasants used rice to cook for their midday meal in the countryside. A shallow, two-handled frying pan - called a paella - was placed over a fire of wood or vine prunings. Other ingredients were also also added to the rice, according to what peasants could get their hands on. Usually ells, snails, frogs, rabbit and wild duck. Seafood was a much later addition. Traditional Valencia rice (used for paella) is a round, medium-short grain rice. But watch the clock as if it is overcooked it becomes sticky. When making paella or any other Spanish rice dish don’t wash the rice, as it needs its outer coating of starch. Add the rice to boiling liquid and ensure the liquid keeps bubbling for several minutes. Then turn down the heat. Cook paella and other rice dishes uncovered. Unlike risotto, they are not stirred after the first bubbling stage. Some cooks like to shake the pan briskly to keep the rice from sticking on the bottom. The rice cooks in 18 - 20 minutes. Sometimes you will need to add additional liquid. Any rice

dish, whether dry or juicy, needs to rest off the fire at least five minutes to finish cooking and absorb liquid. Remember the old saying, ‘one cup of dry rice (6-7 ounces/180-200 grams) requires two cups of liquid.’ However, take into account that you will probably need additional liquid in which to cook the meat, vegetables or seafood before the rice is added. In Andalucia when paella is cooked, it’s usually the men who are then in charge of the cooking, so step aside ladies! Powercuts If you live here then make sure you stock up on candles, matches and at least one industrial sized torch. If you fail yo take this advice you could be cursing when you are left in the dark with a half-baked dinner, screaming kids and a head injury after tripping over the dog. Powercuts are commonplace in Spain and they turn up at the unlikeliest of times - almost always when you least expect them or least want them. I have found the electricity goes off when I am either a) ten minutes away from tucking into the tastiest home cooked dinner in the world, which took half an hour of chopping, 20 minutes of stirring and 15 minutes of watching (plus 20€ of ingredients) b) during the crucial moment of a film, eg: when you are about to find out who is the real serial physco killer or c) when you are about to begin a chore involving vast amounts of light, like plucking your eyebrows. Paragua This is the Spanish word for umbrella. If you see a Spaniard with his/her brolly on their person then make sure you take the hint and dig out yours as it will inevitably rain. And when it rains in Spain, it really does chuck it down. If this is the case and you are umbrella-less then just think along the ‘drowned rat’ lines and you’ll get the picture.

s Now rman b e l Ce en & is Wate Th Denn Popular British actor Dennis Waterman was born on February 24, 1948, in Clapham, London. His father worked for Clapham Railway as a ticket collector.

the Hammer film Scars of Dracula (1970), and the boyfriend of Susan George in Fright (1971). He appeared alongside Richard Harris and John Huston in a Hollywood western, Man in the Wilderness (1971). He became well known as DS George Carter in The Sweeney during the 1970s, co-starring alongside the legendary John Thaw. As well as starring in the TV series Minder, he sang its theme song, "I Could Be So Good for You", which was a top three UK hit in 1980 and a top ten hit in Australia. It was written by his then-wife Patricia Waterman with Gerard Kenny. Waterman also recorded a song with his Minder co-star George Cole: "What Are We Gonna Get For 'Er Indoors?" In 1976, Waterman released his first album, Downwind of Angels, and a single, "I Will Glide", was released from it but did not enter the top 40.

Boxing was a big part of his childhood — his father had been an amateur boxer and encouraged all his sons to box — and when he was ten, Waterman joined Caius Boxing Club. Waterman was educated at the Granard Primary School in Putney, South-West London, followed by Corona Stage School, an independent school at Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith. His acting career spanned almost 60 years, starting with childhood roles and progressing to adult roles in film, television and West End theatre. As a child, he starred as William Brown in the BBC TV series William based on the Just William books of Richmal Crompton. Other roles included Oliver Twist at the Mermaid Theatre, London, and he was a series regular in the 1962 CBS comedy Fair Exchange, playing teenage son Neville Finch. He also had a major role in the 1968 film Up The Junction. In the early 1970s Waterman appeared in the BBC television series Colditz as a young Gestapo officer. He played the brother of a victim of Count Dracula (Christopher Lee) in

Waterman starred in — and funded — a television film made by Tyne Tees Television entitled The World Cup: A Captain's Tale (1982). It was the true story of West Auckland F.C., a part-time side who won the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, sometimes described as the 'First World Cup'. Waterman played the part of Bob Jones, the club captain. It cost £1.5 million to make and local players took part, donning the long pants and high-sided boots of the day, even suffering "short back and sides" haircuts. He has appeared in 28 films and retired in 2015. He has been married four times — to Rula Lenska, Patricia Maynard, Penny Dixon and Pat Flint, whom he wed in 2011.

A source said this was the main reason why she urged her husband to return to England, where he has signed for Derby County and has ambitions to be manager. The couple have been living in America, where he has been playing for DC United, and have four sons. Friends have been saying Coleen is keen to take back control and rebuild her own life at their £20 million Cheshire mansion. A friend told The Sun: "She has always loved being a mum and still feels their family could expand further once they’re back. It wasn’t feasible in the US but when they return, another baby is a definite possibility." Despite their well-documented marriage troubles – which have seen the former England captain hit the headlines for gambling, drink-driving and allegations of cheating – Coleen has always thought Wayne is a "great dad". Thumbs-down from Dyer Boris Johnson seems unlikely to be able to rely on the support of Danny Dyer any time soon. The Eastenders star slated the new Prime Minister during a Channel 4 appearance. Speaking on The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan, the 42-year-old actor said he is incredulous about the Conservative leader’s status as he discussed his upcoming BBC game show The Wall. "What is the world coming to, when you think about it?" a fired-up Danny pondered. "I’ve got my own game show, I’m a host and Boris Johnson is the bleeping Prime Minster." Asked about his views on Johnson, EastEnders star Danny dismissed the PM as 'coming from another world'. Under the knife again Reality star Katie Price has had surgery in Turkey for the second time in months and now a top surgeon has warned her to stop. The former glamour model recently returned to the Turkish clinic she visited earlier this year, to reportedly have her boobs reduced to a D-cup, her butt lift reversed and her face and eyes lifted. Now, surgeon to the stars Dr Aamer Khan has offered 41-year-old Katie some stern advice. Dr Khan, who is co-founder of the Harley Street Skin Clinic, said the mum-of-five is taking a big risk by going under the knife so

much. He told The Sun Online: "All operations carry risks and the amount of general anaesthetics and drugs related to it need to be taken into consideration. It is not advisable to have more than three invasive facial procedures."

He continued: "Katie is still a young woman who in my opinion does not need further procedures. She risks losing her natural looks for good, and there is also her psychological welfare to consider.” The star recently admitted she continues to have surgery because she wants to look "perfect." Pas de trois Former Strictly Come Dancing pro dancer Natalie Lowe has revealed she is expecting her first child with husband James Knibbs. The Strictly favourite, who competed in seven series and left in 2017, shared the development on her Instagram page. The 38-year-old wrote: "So happy to be able to tell the world our AMAZING NEWS! My husband James and I are expecting! "It's has been a rather long and difficult journey, as it is sadly for many but we are almost there and it's now really happening. Thirst For Health In these hot summer months we all know we must take on more water and stay hydrated, but do we know why..... Hydration: Why It's So Important. Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work properly. For example, your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. You should drink water every day. However, different people need different amounts of water to stay hydrated. Most healthy people can stay well hydrated by drinking water and other fluids whenever they feel thirsty. For some people, fewer than 8 glasses may be enough. Other people may need more than 8 glasses each day. If you are concerned that you are not drinking enough water, check your urine. If your urine is usually colourless or light yellow, you are well hydrated. If your urine is a dark yellow or amber color, you may be dehydrated. Water is best for staying hydrated. Other drinks and foods can help you stay hydrated. However, some may add extra calories from

sugar to your diet. Fruit and vegetable juices, milk, and herbal teas add to the amount of water you get each day. Even caffeinated drinks (for example, coffee, tea, and soda) can contribute to your daily water intake. A moderate amount of caffeine (200 to 300 milligrams) is not harmful for most people. This is about the amount in 2 to 4, 8-ounce cups of coffee. However, it’s best to limit caffeinated drinks. Caffeine may cause some people to urinate more frequently, or feel anxious or jittery. Sports drinks can be helpful if you are planning on exercising at higher than normal levels for more than an hour. It contains carbohydrates and electrolytes that can increase your energy. It helps your body absorb water. By Amanda Edge, BscHonsRSA See main advert below

4. For cleaning kitchen sponges, wash them in the top rack of your dishwasher. Also, to help them stay in place try a clothes-pin. Just remember that they are going to be full of hot water when you remove them, so please, be careful. 5. To aid in washing dishes, add a tablespoon of baking soda to your soapy water. It softens hands while cutting through grease! 6. To make rubber gloves slide off easily, run your hands under COLD water for a while and the gloves slide right off.

Unspoilt Andalusia Pounds, pennies and centimes‌ what to do about the big POUND problem For anyone living in Spain and earning in pounds sterling, especially pensioners, it is a bit of a nightmare time. No one really knows how far the pound will fall against the Euro by Brexit-time. And no one knows if it will recover and how long it will take. It’s a major concern for those ex pat Brits living here, and a major concern for Brits thinking of buying here. But in times of trouble, minimising risk sensibly is the best way forward. It is vital, of course, to be well informed. Keep a careful eye on the exchange rate, and be aware of how it affects you. That will put you in a better position to make decisions. For those selling and exchanging their Euros into pounds, it is a good time, as the weak pound means MORE pounds when exchanging. For example, knowing what the exchange rate is doing may enable you to reduce your house price for a faster sale.

If you are selling, and your buyer is from the UK too, one of the best ways of avoiding the exchange rate problem is to agree a sales price completely in sterling. It is still possible to buy or sell property in Spain in sterling, with a sterling to sterling money transfer occurring on the day of completion. The notary only needs to know that the money has been received and will calculate an equivalent value in Euros merely to show on the deeds, in order to pay taxes in Euros. This method can save headaches and anxiety, as there is no argument on which rate to fix between buyers and sellers. Another excellent and quite essential option if you are selling or buying in Euros is to work with a good currencies exchange service, such that you are able to control when to make the exchange, in your own time, at the best rate they can offer. Dear Penny Agony Aunt Penny gives readers, advice, help and guidance through the minefield called life.

Dear Penny

Why is it men think they can make improper advances to you just because you’re female? I do a job which involves a lot of contact with the public, and while wolf whistles and guapa comments are flattering, recently a man has made improper suggestions which I was quite shocked by. I love my job and have asked the advice of a male friend, as I was concerned that maybe I give off the wrong signals, and he assured me I didn’t and that I shouldn’t have to dress with long sleves and high necks in the middle of the summer to keep the pervs away! What so you think Penny?  Anon, Nerja Penny Says: I think your friend is spot on. Never feel like you have to change the way you are, dress or look just because of an inconsiderate man or lady for that matter. Especially a man that you don’t even know! So forget the high necks and long sleeves and continue wearing clothes you feel comfy in, and acting like you normally would. As for why men feel like they can get away with making dirty suggestive remarks, well, on that one I cannot comment as I am not a man. Thank the high heavens!

Yours Penny

Hasta Pronto: Not Necessarily... “House guests are pests, much like cockroaches and mice. But there are differences. You can trap cockroaches and mice. And they don't want you to drive them to Disneyland.” Quote by Margo Kaufman. It is September. The beach is emptying and pools are closing. The daily temperature might still be higher than a hot UK July but summer is over. Guests: we have entertained, enjoyed or endured. Replaced mice with ants and Disneyland with Malaga Airport and the quotation makes some sense. Not all visitors are pests but, at times, I’ve been counting down the days, hours and minutes. Here are some of the types of visitors we’ve had. How about you? 1. The Jekyll and Hyde guest This is the guest that transforms as they walk onto the tarmac at Malaga Airport. In the UK, they were easy going and sociable. In Spain, they metamorphose into a monster. They endlessly complain. The weather is too hot. They ignore your advice to remain out of the blazing sun during the afternoon. Furnace red by the evening with T shirt and strap marks emblazoned on their skin (this guest doesn’t like suncream), they sit in a restaurant or bar declining to eat anything, they can’t understand but attempting to rehydrate with successive tankas of lager. By the end of their trip, you’re hoping there’ll not be another. If it’s suggested, you’ll send them links to resorts west of Malaga. 2. The hotel guest This guest has confused your offer of hospitality with a cheap holiday and free accommodation. As much as they might claim they have come over to see you, their towels on your patio furniture at 8am, leads you to believe they had an ulterior motive. Somewhere between the UK and Spain, they have lost the ability to use a kettle, find the fridge, wash up or make a gin and tonic. You’ve become their airport pickup and their bargain flights are at ridiculously inconvenient times. You’ve been their chauffeur, personal chef,

cleaner and bartender for the week. As they depart, you’re half expecting to find a review of your ‘hotel’ on Tripadvisor. 3. The Axarquía long weekender This guest fails to realise that you live in Axarquía, you are here every weekend and you’re no longer 25 years old. They burst in on Thursday night ready for 4 nights of wall to wall partying. Enthused by cheap drink and the many opportunities to party and dance through the long Spanish summer nights, they’re on a mission. You wake up from siesta to find your guest in full going out out attire drinking anything alcoholic in the house. Why did you tell them to make themselves at home? Your liver, bank balance and sanity tell you to just give them a key. You live in fear of them returning. You hatch a plan to say future available dates are in February: quiet, rainy and cold. 4. Never can say goodbye This guest first messaged you with a request for a weekend, that extended to a week (good deals etc). By the time they’ve arrived, they inform you they’re here for a fortnight. After a few days, you feel invaded, within a week, there’s a sense of occupation, by 11 days, you’re openly hostile. As their visit ends, you’ve decided they’ve had their allowance for 10 years: at least. Roll on next season I’ll be ready for 2020. There’s been lots of advice from long time residents. One declines to respond to messages and calls from certain individuals between April to September. Another recommends hotels, villas and camping in Axarquía like a professional tour operator. Someone else has basic preparation: no airport pick ups, no beds made and the fridge with one day’s food, forcing guests to participate and integrate or starve. My decision is to be very clear with dates, learn to say no, recommend car hire and provide a copy of The Sentinella Magazine. Article written by Grimble

Dine In Style: Great British Restaurant The area of London around St James’s holds much interest, with Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, St James’s Park, Green Park and other popular locations only a short walk away. Mayfair and Knightsbridge districts, along with other shopping and designer outlets, satisfy many seeking ‘retail therapy’. Dukes London is a ‘hidden gem’ and located in the heart of St James’s, an area which abounds in history and historic connections.

St James’s Palace was built during the reign of King Henry 8th and the area soon became home to royalty, plus writers, musicians and politicians. Dukes London (Boutique five-star Red AA hotel) offers luxurious accommodation (80+ guest rooms), plus fine cuisine, to residents and non-residents alike. Dukes Great British Restaurant (GBR) offers all day dining, with dishes available as starters or main course options. English Burrata (Roasted onion squash, sage, toasted pumpkin seeds) is very popular, with wonderful flavours and excellent presentation. Chalk Stream Trout (Soft shell crab, roasted kohlrabi, crab sauce) is a regular choice too, from an impressive menu that has something for everyone, offering seafood, fish and meats. The ‘Daily Special’ changes each day, varying from Cumbrian Lamb Cutlets, through Salmon, to succulent, tender Rib-Eye Steak. Desserts can include Yorkshire Rhubarb and Lemon Meringue Pie. Executive Head Chef is

Nigel Mendham. Nigel is passionate about great British food and ensures, with his very talented brigade of chefs and kitchen personnel, excellence at all times, with outstanding, complementing flavours. Dukes Great British Jazz Brunch will jazz up everyones Sunday. This is style and sophistication, with bubbles (free-flowing, if you wish), Cured and Roasted Meats, Lobster Thermidor Omelette and much more. Dessert

of Raspberry Cranachan, Waffles, Treacle Tart or Cheese Selection finishes the leisurely ‘experience’, wonderfully. Award-winning Dukes Bar is legendary and renowned for famous martinis and cocktails. Dukes London offers the ‘Wedmin Weekend Package’, with engaged couples enjoying a two-night stay, plus champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, breakfasts and three course dinners with wine pairings. Gift vouchers are available-perhaps surprise someone special? Booking is advisable, particularly during popular times. A huge thank you to Denisa, for impeccable service throughout. A top recommendation. Dukes London. 35 St James’s Place, London SW1A 1NY Tel: 44 (0) 20 7491 4840 Email: gbrlondon@dukeshotel.com Email: bookings@dukeshotel.com www.dukeshotel.com

Take Your Pick!

Random Jokes :)

Let’s be honest, we all have a good old pick now and again. Little did I know that there were now titles for the different types of nose picking we engage in... Ha!

A couple made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other of the afterlife. Their biggest fear was that there was no afterlife. After a long life, the husband was the first to go, and true to his word he made contact, “Mary, Mary.” “Is that you, Fred?” “Yes, I’ve come back like we agreed.” “What’s it like?” “Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex, I have breakfast, off to the golf course, I have sex, I bathe in the sun and then I have sex twice. I have lunch, another romp around the golf course, then sex pretty much all afternoon. After supper, golf course again, then have sex until late at night. The next day it starts again.” “Oh, Fred you surely must be in heaven.” “Not exactly, I’m a rabbit in suffolk!”

Surprise pickings When a sneeze or laugh causes snot to come hurling out of your nose, and you have to gracefully clean it off your shirt. Autopick The kind you do in the car, when no one’s looking. Also can mean automatic pick, the one you do when you’re not even thinking about it, at work, while talking to a co-worker, during a meeting... Pick and stick You wanted it to be a ‘Pick and Flick,’ but it stubbornly clings to your fingertip. Kiddie pick When you’re by yourself and you uninhibitedly twist your forefinger into your nostril with childlike joy and freedom. And the best part is, there’s no time limit! Making a meal out of it You do it so furiously, and for so long, you’re probably entitled to dessert. Extra pick When you have been digging for nuggets hours upon hours and suddenly you hit the jackpot! Excitement only equalled by winning the lottery. Pipe cleaner pick The kind where you remove a piece of snot so big, it improves your breathing by 90%.

September; a time for change as Summer finishes and Autumn creeps in preparing us for the coming Winter. It is the perfect time of year for mosaics and we are already full speed ahead here at La Vaqueria, arty crafty cafe in Benamargosa. Many unfinished projects and some wild and wonderful new ones are underway. Whilst our garden is not big we have managed to cram a lot in making it an important part of the La Vaqueria experience with unique and quirky bits and bobs to feast your eyes on in every direction! At this time of year I tend to find the season change quite dramatic and there's lots to do as we have practically lived outside for months. Although the Winter weather can hardly be described as harsh here in Benamargosa we can get torrential downpours and high gusty winds which can do a lot of damage if you are unprepared. In our cafe we have seasonal changes too as warming home made soups come into their own again and our daily menu offers many traditional favourites with our own unique Vaqueria twist as well as our very popular pic 'n' mix share platter. Whatever the weather we are waiting to welcome you. La Vaqueria Team x

) : a h a Jokes h Upon hearing of her elderly Grandfather’s death, Kate went round her comfort her 96 year old Grandmother. When she asked how her Grandfather had passed away, her Grandmother replied, “He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning” Horrified, Kate told her that two people nearly 100 years old having sex was asking for trouble. “Oh no my dear” replied granny, “Many years ago, realising our advanced years, we figured out that the best time to do it was when the church bells started to ring. It was just the right rhythm, nice and slow and even. Nothing too strenuous, just in on the ding and out on the dong.” She paused too wipe away a tear and continued, “He’d still be alive today if that ice cream van hadn’t gone past!” ------------------------------------------------------------In the brand new doctor’s surgery the nurse came into the waiting room and said “In order to comply with privacy regulations we are not allowed to call out patient’s names. So will the lady with the itchy vagina please come in.” ------------------------------------------------------------A man and woman were having a quiet, romantic time in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands. The waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the woman slowly sliding down the chair and under the table - but the man stared straight ahead. The waitress watched as the woman slid all the way down her chair and out of sight under the table. Still, the man stared straight ahead. The waitress, thinking this behaviour was a bit risqué and worried that it might offend the other diners, went over to the couple and tactfully, began by saying to the man, “Pardon

me sir but I think your wife has just slid under the table.” The man calmly looked up at her and said, “No she didn’t, she has just walked in!” ------------------------------------------------------------Paddy says to Mick, “I’m getting circumcised tomorrow.” Mick says, “I had that done when I was just a few days old.” “Does it hurt?” Paddy asks Mick says “I dunno but I couldn’t walk for about a year!” ------------------------------------------------------------A young arab boy asked his father, “What is that strange hat you are wearing?” Father: “It protects our heads from the intense heat of the sun.” Boy: “And what is that long flowing robe you are wearing?” Father: “Oh, my son! It is very simple. This is a Djbellah. As I’ve told you, in the desert it is not only hot, but the sand is always blowing. My Djbellah protects my whole body.” Boy: “But father, what are those ugly shoes you have on your feet?” Father: “These are Babouches my son. You must understand that although the desert sands are very beautiful, they are also extremely hot. These Babouches keep us from burning our feet.” Boy: “So tell me then father.” Father: “Yes my son.” Boy: “Why are you living in Bradford and still wearing all this?” ------------------------------------------------------------A little boy arrives home and sees his mum and dad having sex on the sofa. Dad says “Don’t worry son, I’m just filling mummy up with petrol.” The boy replies, “She doesn’t do many miles to the gallon does she dad?” “Uncle Dave only filled her up this morning, but he has a bigger nozzle!”
