Celebrating this high fashion calendar Raza Beig invited fashion and art enthusiasts to a display of the 12 visuals that summarized artistic glamour. Held at his residence and grooving to a DJ taking the guests well into the early hours. Weaving together the concept of love and drawing inspiration from the multi-faceted heart logo which was introduced earlier this year in the business, the calendar brings together the virtues of seasonless fabrics, the glamour and beauty of textures and the love for designs. Capturing and interpreting contemporary fashion culture, the calendar is shot through the lens of renowned fashion photographer Tejal Patni and styled by international designer Furne Amato. “Expression of style and emotion for fashion has driven multitudes of consumers to Splash and it was this thought that inspired the theme ‘Splash In Love with Fashion’ for the 2014 Splash Calendar. As you flip through the months, each image will evoke the sort of excitement that you have come to expect of fashion when presented at its best. What if, just for today, we someone “how are you?� not just out of courtesy but with the idea of really listening to what they have to say?

For those of you reading this who have already evaluated the past year and set your goals for the New Year, why not incorporate a few goals that include giving your time to someone or something other than yourself. Please don’t misunderstand me, I have nothing against New Years resolutions. I believe it is healthy for people to set goals. Giving yourself the gift of health via better diet and exercise or the gift of alone time by scheduling something your enjoy doing a few times a week, is not only physically healthy but psychologically healthy.
However, just for today, I also encourage you expand your list to include some of the above. For, isn’t it in giving that we receive and by doing good for others we are doing good for ourselves? And just think, if we all did one random act of kindness a day for others, the end result would be millions of kind acts a day. Just think of the wonderful effects of that positive energy upon ourselves and the world....WOW! So I wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year! I hope that you will all realize that resolutions are not all or none and that each day we wake up we are given a gift and with each moment we live we are given a new opportunity. I began my relationship with fashion at the tender age of 5 when I would shop with my mum. I loved these trips where I could choose my own clothes and indulge my sense of style since I had already developed my own taste in fashion. I always had an eye for color coordination and design (art was my favorite subject in school) so that, while growing up, my friends would always come to me for fashion advice. But when the time came to attend college, I chose a major in business administration from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. I eventually went on to achieve a Masters in human resources at the American University in Cairo. But after graduating, I realized that I really wanted to pursue my dream of working in fashion. So when I thought about furthering my education, I debated going to such fashion powerhouse locations like Paris or Italy but after much thought, I decided to stay in Egypt.
I am now 26 and about to graduate again. I so appreciate all they have helped me to achieve. If it hadn’t been for the support and guidance of Dr. Stefania and her staff of phenomenal instructors, I may not have been able to realize my dream of following my passion for fashion. Now that I am on the road to reach my goal of becoming a designer, I am looking forward to a future where I am internationally renowned with the likes of John Galliano, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Elie Saab. In the ever changing world of fashion, I hope to become one of the trendsetters.

After participating in a “just-forfun” photo shoot with other Asian girls, it was almost 3 years before I began receiving invitations from several modeling agencies. I launched my career the way many modeling hopefuls start: by doing television commercials, print ads, and editorial work. As a commercial model, I gained experience by being “Les mechants mardi” at hockey games for RDS Canada’s first sports channel and by being available to model different accessories, makeup products and fashion designers for editorials in magazine spreads. I just can’t describe how much I enjoy doing photo shoots and being able to work with all the diverse, talented and creative people with whom I come into contact. Now I hope to explore a future filled with new opportunities. My dream is to be able to travel the world, working everywhere, but especially Asia. That is my biggest dream.

BeeJooS is structured as a social enterprise and as we travel the world to feature the most unique accessories from artisans and emerging designers, we also make sure to donate a percentage of proceeds to charities dealing with the most pertinent issues communities in these emerging countries face. Our charities differ in cause, as often problems faced by artisans in Vietnam are different from those faced by artisans in Madagascar. We are currently focusing on a charity called Educating the Children (http://www.etceducation.org/home/), where we are helping build the first girls’ school in Kenya in the Masai Mara. BeeJooS is featuring handmade bracelets made by Masai women and all proceeds go to the building of this school for the young girls.

Often in the fashion industry we are consumed by how we look, what we have, and who may see us. For many of us our clothes determine who we are and therefore help build our self-esteem. So, when we learned about the Fashion Hope Campaign we were intrigued and wanted to share their story. Fashion Hope launched in the spring of 2011. The campaign has built a brand of awareness not just of clothes, looks, self consumption but for human trafficking and modern day slavery victims. Imagine that! Beauty and style contrasted against the horror and atrocity of lost innocence, devastation, deception and profit. Fashion Hope, the campaign, has two missions. The first is to educate people whether at various Fashion Week events or at celebrity gifting suites such as the Emmy’s, Sundance, or The Oscar’s to name a few. The second is to raise funds for its charity partners that are directly involved in rescuing, and sheltering of victims. The message is simply this: men, women, and children in most countries are enslaved against their will and we want you to help Fashion Hope help them.
