MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR

H

ello everyone, I hope this issue of Top Choice Magazine will find you on "top" of your health and fortune! Since this is the first issue of 2009 we are taking the time to look back at our past, evaluate the present and plan our future goals. Planning and brainstorming are an important part of running a business and sometimes the results really surprise me! Each time we stop to think about our company and projects we always seem to notice something great…the Top Choice Award is growing in terms of recognition and our surveys (on EnterVote.com) are receiving more responses from a wider audience than ever before. So to take a trip down memory lane, I wanted to share a brief summary of how the Top Choice Award got to where it is now.

OUR BUSINESS TIMELINE When we began Top Choice Awards it was not even called Top Choice Awards! It all started with a company named "The Ontario People's Choice Awards" and the goals were a lot different than they are now. With a part-time staff of 3 people, working out of a small office space in a basement, we set our sights on recognizing business excellence (some things never cthange) but only in the Portuguese community of Toronto. We put out a survey (by hand) which identified the people's choice in 20 categories, organized a gala, invited the winners & nominees. The event had 400 attendees, so we did it and I can say that we did it well! We followed the same formula for another year, this time in a larger venue and with more dedication to the event. It was a resounding success as the attendance grew to 700 people and the media coverage blossomed. After the event passed we realized that we had developed a winning formula, we were making a huge impact on the customer-business relationship and we felt urged to look outside our original plans, look to other cultural communities and dedicate ourselves to giving award full time. We were enjoying the idea so much that we started to

www.EnterVote.com

think outside of Ontario and outside of Canada, we started to think about a new name! So by now you already know the name, but do you know its origin? Take a look at the diagram below for a visual:

Taking on a global plan is not small task, so to accomplish this we needed to reconstruct our company from the ground up, from the name, to the logo, data management and work flow. It was a real battle to educate the public, current staff, new employees, the existing award recipients and even myself! Things are, as they say, "rolling" and through the power of the internet we have opened satellite offices in Canada, USA, Brasil, Portugal, England and Australia. All our work is managed online, including our surveying and client resources, we can access our information from anywhere in the world and this has been the greatest step to globalizing the Top Choice Award, Top Choice Magazine and other "Top Choice" services. The future is bright for our company, we are embracing innovative technology to make it easy to access Top Choice Award recipients on any platform, whtether it be internet, video, radio or (like Top Choice Magazine) print. I really hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoy making it. ■

Quote of the issue:

“The past is history; the future is a mystery; and today? Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present.”

Top regards,

David Silvestre David Silvestre Editor-In-Chief

What are the future goals of Festa Das Amigas?

Well, we will keep doing it until a cure is found. Where did the inspiration and motivation come from?

Well, my mother used to talk a lot about this “Amigas” thing they used to do, which was very small, it was like a pot luck dinner they used to get together. From there we started with 100 woman and now, because of the cause that we are supporting, it has grown to 1100 woman. How do you handle the responsibility of organizing this event?

With a lot of help from my friends, the support from our sponsors, the [Portuguese] community and my husband who supports me a lot.

SURVEYING

What’s the Deal?

EnterVote.com & Top Choice Awards Top Choice Award winners are decided by surveys on EnterVote.com, but do you know how it works? David Silvestre

P

eople’s choice. That’s always been the goal at Top Choice Awards and in order to poll the people you need an effective method of surveying. When we began Top Choice Awards 5 years ago, we conducted the survey ourselves, using our own website and staff. But as things grew, so did the need for a dedicated surveying platform, which you know today as EnterVote.com. Hosting surveys is only the beginning for EnterVote.com. EnterVote.com also receives and processes thousands of written forms and data collected by telephone and EnterVote.com street survey teams. Once a survey is completed the data (from all sources) is tabulated and the results are released and sent to Top Choice Awards for the purpose of awarding the winners. Once Top Choice Awards receives the results it is there job to identify if the business is legitimate (eg still in business) and collect the contact information for communication purposes.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VOTE AND A RATING Recently a new type of award – the Top Rated Award – has been created by Top Choice Awards and the EnterVote.com survey reflect that. When completing a survey respondents have the opportunity to enter their personal opinion of the business or professional’s levels of quality, service, value and professionalism. What’s the difference between a vote and rating? Although valuable, a vote can be cast by a person who has never used the product or service, solely based on the popularity of the 10

business or professional; this is why it is often referred to as the popular vote. A rating on the other hand can only be accurately made by respondents who have some experience with the business or professional.

result in increased business, as new clients are willing to try them because they know that they are a reputed business or professional.

GET INVOLVED If you want to get involved simply visit EnterVote.com -or- if you are looking for a winner visit TopChoiceAwards.com. We have also included a form on the right that you can complete and mail to the address provided. If you are a business or professional, you can copy and distribute the form to your clients. Other tools for businesses are also available online, just look for the “Get Rated” ribbon.

WHAT’S THE POINT Our mission is to provide the most popular and top rated businesses to consumers around the world and to recognize groups and individuals who have inspired or motivated others to be the best that they can. What consumers gain is the knowledge that an award given through EnterVote.com and Top Choice Awards comes with the trust of thousands of respondents. They can save themselves time and money that could otherwise be lost when using another product or service. Businesses and professionals gain the awareness that their products and services are appreciated by their clients and through the award they develop a stronger relationship with them. here are some people in this world who we never expect to meet, you know the kind I’m talking about; you can’t see them in concert or meet them at a book signing, they are what we call “unsung heroes”. You can call it destiny, call it what you like, but we NEVER expected to meet Luìz “Felipão” Scolari, yet alone have him receive the Top Choice Award! There was something truly magical about the night he, and the complete entourage of FPF (Federacao Portuguesa de Futebol) delegates, attended our event; the same magic that revealed the unlimited frontiers of the Top Choice Award. It was February, 2006, our 3rd award show and the final week of preparation, when we received a call from Mr. Alexandre Franco – a well-respected figure in international sports scene and Editor In-Chief of Post Milénio Newspaper (Top Portuguese Newpaper of that year). Mr. Franco informed us that the delegates of the FPF accepted our invitation and they would be available to attend our event. So without hesitation we booked a limousine and set a table for their arrival. Instead ad of going p public with this great news, we reserved sserv the surprise for our atttend tendees and let’s just e p sa ay that th surprised was say li e F íz Lu only on nly th the beginning. As they arrived by lim mo a limo and were introduced, du uced, a hush of silence moved through the crowd; mov some began laughing, laug thinking it was a joke and others sat in suspense at th the thought that it might actually be real. The room’s silence was broken by Nelly’s song “Força” and the stillness of the crown replaced by thunderous cheering as the anticipated guests approached the stage. After a brief speech from the honoured guests it was our turn to present Scolari with the Top Choice Award on behalf of Portuguese-Canadians; for leading the Portuguese World Cup soccer team to its best finish ever and bringing international acclaim back to Portuguese soccer. It was an unforgettable night for our guests, an unforgettable night for Top Choice Awards and most importantly the start of our international aspirations. Our destiny was clear; we were going to be larger than Canada!

COVER BUSINESS STORY

nce upon a time Top Choice Awards was a community based company in Toronto but experiences – such as presenting an award to Luiz Felipe Scolari – have changed the company’s outlook for the present and future. We were always a company of “big dreamers” and survived much ridicule to get to where we are now! For every person against us, there were 10 who supported us, so we could have easily kept on working locally and we would be rewarded with continued success. But easy is not a word we use at Top Choice Awards; it is often paired with laziness! So going international with the award was the challenge we were looking for and it was 2007 when we launched our international survey to identify the top choice all over the world. It isn’t easy to go from 0 to 100 with such a unique idea, so we conducted our survey with a unique twist. We asked immigrants in Canada to tell us their top choice in their country of origin and in the case of PortugueseCanadians their choice for Male Music Artist was overwhelmingly Tony Carreira. The people who voted it made it clear that they wanted to SEE Tony receive his award and it was our job to make it happen. We worked for months with Tony’s managers and RTP Internacional to make it happen and finally on February ebruary 13th, 1 2008 the presentation was made on popular Television Show Praça de Alegria and aired to Tony’s Tony s fanss w worldwide. Everyone o knows Tony Tony for his T music, but he h is humbly b l known for his h charitable contributions, including includi selfless performances f for f charity h it and d even contributions t ib ti out of his own pocket! So it was Tony and his story that made the presentation all the more meaningful for Top Choice Awards, but really justifies why the world voted him their top choice. The second international Top Choice Award was delivered, seems like “big dreams” are becoming big realities; this is just the beginning.

icture a perfect goal in soccer (futebol). Everything from the position of the players, the passing of the ball, the moment the striker executes his attack and the desperation of the goalie as he tries to make the save. Antonio “Careca” Oliveira has made many of these goals and even after one of the greatest careers in soccer and becoming a legend in Brazil, he continues to score for adoring fans all over the world and was voted by them to receive the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award for Brazil. It was November 2008 when the 3rd International Top Choice Award was about to be presented, we are in Toronto, Canada and it is the night of the 3rd Annual Multicultural Top Choice Awards…a night that will be remembered for a long time! To present an award to a world renowned player of Careca’s stature is a huge responsibility, so we invited international sports analyst Dick Howard to introduce and present the award. “It is with great honour that I present the Lifetime Achievement Award to one of the greats of world futebol… Careca” said Mr. Howard as he introduced the star of the night. The crowd responded with vigor and chants of “Careca!… Careca!…Careca!” soon filled the room. As Careca reached the stage the ladies were screaming and the men stood in respect of his presence. Careca shared stories of his experiences with Maradona, Pele and other soccer icons. He recalled his childhood, when he used to play soccer with rocks because he didn’t have a ball and said that he is clearly blessed by God to come from such a small town in Brazil to international fame. “I hope to motivate others to achieve larger dreams than mine” said Careca. He left us with a lesson of humility and a greater respect for humanity. So again it wa was possible to achieve what many labeled “impossible”! As we w write this our international survey surveying is going strong and st m many more Antonio ico icons will be ho holding the Mark of ExcelMa lenc lence…you can a ir co count on it! e v Oli

I have been working with international events for the past 15 years. The experience with PDAC helped me to work in many other events all over the world! Carlos Nogueira da Costa Jr. Although we are living a world-wide economic crisis, our participation in the event was very productive. Logically the businesses generated was not as good as the previous years, but the Brazilian entrepreneurs are still optimistic. The proposal for next year is to organize again our traditional Brazilian Breakfast, workshop, games, gifts and to serve the flavorful cafezinho brasileiro at the Brasil Pavilion, our Brazilian house during the PDAC Trade Show in Toronto..

We had a few questions for the Brasil Pavilion Organizer Patricia Moreira Ronaldo De Souza How long have you been working with these types of events?

BUSINESS

PATRICIA MOREIRA

To be part of an event of this level, one must remain calm, which tasks were the most difficult to reach?

Beyond remaining calm, it’s necessary to have “Jogo de Cintura” (the ability to improvise), diplomacy and lots of organization. The event is very detailed and we who work with the organization cannot miss one detail, it’s the only way we can guarantee a successful event! I could say that even with our experience in organizing events, each one has different and particular details that make them unique, but nothing is impossible when we work with professionalism, efficiency and seriousness. ■ Top Choice March 2009 » Business : Building Alliances In Exceptional Times

A

n important factor to consider when choosing a window company is whether the company’s installers are certified Window Wise contractors. Window Wise is an energy efficiency program of SAWDAC, the Siding & Window Dealers Association of Canada that ensures energy efficient windows, efficient installation, quality assurance, and a five year industry guarantee. All Northern Comfort Windows and Doors installers are certified Window Wise. Vinyl windows are an excellent choice for your home. They are reasonably priced and custom made to fit each window opening. Although there are

hundreds of vinyl window manufacturers, the quality of their products varies greatly. The highest quality windows will always carry a life time warranty. Did you know that heat loss accounts for up to 25% of total heat loss from your house? By minimizing air leading and improving the thermal resistance of your windows, you can significantly improve their energy efficiency while simultaneously saving money on your energy bills. Vinyl is a superb choice for insulating frame material and it is also maintenance free. Did you also know that one of the benefits of our energy efficient windows is a reduction in the penetration of outside noise and elements such as dust, allergens and insects. A secondary benefit is the prevention of furniture and carpet fading.

Northern Comfort Windows and Doors ltd. offers two major window brands. “Armor Series” and “North star Windows” to choose from. Both products exceed the standard requirements by far. Our windows are designed for maximum energy efficiency, easy cleaning and NO maintenance. Our windows come standard with Low E/Argon gas filled giving you protection against UV light. Past, Present, Future: Where Are We Going? What does the future hold for the Top Choice Award? We take a look at the past and present for a glimpse of the future By David Silvestre

I

t would be funny if we answered this question by telling you that “we aren’t going anywhere”…but it’s true! The Top Choice Award is here to stay, we are achieving the goals that we set out to accomplish and each survey, magazine, event, and award presentation is giving the Top Choice Award momentum and recognition as a household brand. So we are not going anywhere…but yet the Top Choice Award is popping up all over the world. We have satellite offices in Brasil, Australia, USA and Portugal as we begin the first leg of internationalizing the Top Choice Award. We have a long road ahead of us, so we wanted to take a look back at some great moments in the past, its helps us realize how far we have come in such a short time. We probably won’t be seeing you anytime soon, but we are sure that you will be seeing us! ■

AWARDING EXCELLENCE Top Choice Awards recognizes the people’s choice all over the world

TORONTO SUN Since 1971, Toronto Sun brings us the top stories of our city, country and the world, The Sun is was the obvious choice for the majority of our survey respondents, who have made it clear that Toronto Sun is their “Top Choice” for two consecutive years. Publisher Kin-man Lee has warmly welcomed our team to their head office on several occassions, but he has really gone the extra mile and supported the Multicultural Top Choice Awards in 2007 & 2008 with his attendance and vibrant speeches. “I had breakfast in Italy, lunch in China and dinner in Portugal, all in one city…our Toronto” said Kin-man Lee during the event. Mr. Lee and Toronto Sun exemplify multiculturalism and this has been a key to their success and the path to the Top Choice Award. 26

CANADIAN LINEN All it took was one exclusive tour of their facilities to drop our jaws and make us say “WOW”! Linen & Uniform services seem like a simple business, but the technology behind the 80 year old company will surprise anyone. We had the honour to meet the family that started the business and we now understand where the motivation to be the best in their industry comes from! They are not only the top in Toronto, they came on top in every Canadian city we surveyed for the past 2 years. We take this opportunity to thank everyone with a special thanks to Anthony Couter, Jim Mittef and Sean Kearley. www.TopChoiceAwards.com

RUGCUTTERZ DANZ ARTZ It’s a great feeling to walk into Rugcutterz Danz Artz studio be surrounded by so much talent. Everyone in the studio shares the same dreams and are focused on improving as individuals for the good of the team. We want to thank the founders of Rugcutterz, Ross and Sandra Marin, for establishing a business that has such a positive impact on our society. They once told us “We pray before any adventure and ask God for guidance and the strength to help others”. Well if you visit their studio you will feel the positive energy in every smile. Thanks for believing in the future generation and helping them live active artistic lives! www.EnterVote.com

JOHN DERRINGER When we finally matched the face to the voice of “The most controversial voice on the radio”, John Derringer, we were completely shocked! He wears a huge smile and was calm, cool and collected…until the light in the booth turns on! That’s when Derringer gets in the zone to give the GTA their dose of Toronto from his point of view. But Derringer doesn’t fly solo, he has the support of the entire Derringer in the Morning crew to keep things running smoothly. Why do we write so good about Derringer? The answer is simple, we don’t want to be the next “Tool of the Day”.

BOCHNER EYE INSTITUTE Through their eyes we saw the past, present and future of vision! So much experience is shared between the surgeons at Bochner and they use their expertise to provide permanent vision to people everyday. We got a close look at the technology they use to change lives, it is truly a cutting-edge field. We actually met a few clients who described their experience as “Magical”. It has always been an honour to visit the Bochner Eye Insitute because of their incredible staff and Dr. Harold Stein (founder), his Son Dr. Raymond Stein and Dr. Albert Cheskes. ERIN MILLS LIMOUSINE CAFÉ DIPLOMATICO

JULIAN FANTINO The Man behind the safety of Ontario, Canada is Mr. Julian Fantino, Comissioner of the OPP.(Ontario Provincial Police). We think it is a crime for a person to not have a chance to meet the commissioner. When we met we were greeted with outstanding attention and kindness. Awards are part of his career and when we saw his long list of awards it was overwhelming, but the truth remains that he deserves every single one of them!

The moment we stepped through the door it was like arriving in Italy, the aroma of the food, the conversation of the people and friendly greetings, this is what Café Diplomatico (or “The Dip” as regulars call it) is all about. The walls of The Dip are decorated with the history of the Corso Italia hot spot. We asked them “Who is that beautiful little girl in this picture?” Tina Mastrangelo answered with a soft voice, “Oh my, that picture was taken a long time ago...I am a little older now.” We were speaking to the little girl who is now, with her other siblings, running the family business.

As your getting off on the QEW onto Erin Mills the first thing that will capture your attention is a fleet of luxurious limousines...unless it’s the weekend, when the pristine vehicles are out on the town. The owner Peter and his staff were a great group to meet. We have used their limousine services on several occasions and they have never let us down!

INTELLIGARDE

THE Z103.5 MORNING SHOW HAKIM OPTICAL Meeting Sir Hakimi, the man that used his “vision” to give vision to others, was not a simple mission. It was with a lot of dedication and motivation that we pursued the honour to meet “The King of Canadian Eye Wear”. Sir Hakimi received us with the simplicity and respect as only an icon of his stature can. Sir Hakimi is a renowned philanthropist with years of charitable contributions, including the donation of thousands of pairs of glasses to the less fortunate around the world. But Hakim Optical is not only one man! We would like to thank John Warden for his cooperation on presenting Hakim Optical the Top Choice Award for Top Optician of 2008! 28

If you have heard the Z103.5 Morning Show you know that it’s the best way to start your work day! Scott Fox, Ashley & Dave know how to put a smile on the face of their listeners and they had the same effect in person. Thanks for making Monday to Friday a lot brighter!

Have you even been in a place that felt completely safe? Well that’s how we felt when we arrived at the Intelligarde International head office. As we entered the building we walked past the stables filled with beautiful, powerful horses. We checked in with the professional desk attendants and we were off to the board room to meet the whole management and training team. We were impressed to know that Intelligarde has one of the best K9 training units in the GTA and their dogs are employed by the Police. “We are proud to make this city a safer place to live” said Ross McLeod, President of Intelligarde International.

DEL PROPERTY Born from “Tridel” a true leader in condominium development, rises Del Property Management. Leaders in their own respect and a perfect example of what quality, service, value and professionalism really are! Patricia gave us the complete story about Del Property and made us feel at home from the moment we spoke with her on the phone We bet their clients also feel “at home”. www.TopChoiceAwards.com

FLARE MAGAZINE Sometimes the top choice is obvious! But that’s why the Top Choice Award bases itself on the opinions of ethnic consumers. When it comes to the top Fashion and beauty magazine, the #1 choice is still Flare! Meeting Lisa Tant, Editor-in-Chief of Flare Magazine, was a unique an inspiring moment. After visiting Flare’s head office it was easy to understand why they are Canada’s Top Choice magazine for fashion and beauty. Their office is full of positive energy and the secret to their publication is the intense focus and passion of each staff member for their work!

CAPELAS CONSTRUCTION Mr. Carlos Botelho and his family are a strong example of unity and family values! Capelas Construction is one of the well known Construction Companies that resulted from the belief and vision of one family! Mr. Botelho is one of the distinguished figures of the Portuguese Community of Toronto and has achieved wonders with fund raising and building community centres to keep the community united! Thank you for never giving up and showing us that we can!

BIG AL’S AQUARIUM SERVICE The story of Big’s Als is a great one! What began 30 years ago with Al Saul, Founder, and his affection for everything “fishy”, has now become one of Canada’s largest supplier of aquariums, aquatic wildlife and everything else you need to create your own underwater world. We never knew that the ocean could be so close to home and after visiting their distribution centre, which is large enough to host a sporting event, we now what makes it possible. Peter Fredericks is Al’s right-hand man and has been given us the first-class treatment since the first time we met. Thank you to “Big Al”, Peter and the team!

HERO BURGER When we met John Lettieri, CEO of Hero Burger, it became instantly evident where their slogan “Every Hero Makes a Difference” comes from. Because in the competitive fast food arena, it is anything but easy to start a franchise from scratch. John and his dedicated team have not only done that, but in a short 6 years they have taken the Hero Burger to the top of the burger list. To accomplish this it really takes a hero! We became immediate clients…have you tried a Hero Burger?

ABCO BUSINESS INTERIORS Meeting the staff at ABCO was like meeting old friends. They welcomed us like we had a long time relationship for many years. Their showroom is like one gigantic office and the only place we have ever seen “used” furniture looking like new. Mike Menzies, Mike McCallum and ABCO team have always had a smile for us, and when you visit we are sure that the same smile is waiting for you!

Collision. As much as Auto. we try we cannot seem to

keep these two out of our lives. The worst part of an auto collision is not the accident itself, but the headaches we get when dealing with the outcome. It’s not just about body repair! It’s also paint, frame straightening and the nightmare of filing your insurance claim. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a shop that could take care of all that for you? Joe Gomes thought it would be a good idea and that’s why he established Jay’s Auto Collision, which has been taking the hassle out of auto collision since 1995. Over the years, Joe and his team have been providing full-service auto collision recovery with the honesty and respect you would come to expect from a Portuguese founded business. The Portuguese community is only a part of their diverse, multicultural clientele. “The support of the [Portuguese] community has been an important part of our success” says Joe modestly. Joe’s appreciation for his community has been mutual as Jay’s Auto Collision has been rewarded with the Top Choice Award for 3 consecutive years – 2006, 2007 & 2008. Located at 16 Belvia Road (Lakeshore & Kipling) in Etobicoke, Jay’s Auto Collision has become one of Toronto’s primary auto collision service providers. Relied upon by various towing fleets, accredited insurance companies, suppliers and an extensive list of valued clientele. Their reputation has been built by a committment to the highest service standards, refined workmanship and customer service. 38

They also hold professorships at the University of Toronto and have collaborated on an impressive 35 texts — the most academic books attributed to a private institution in North America. “Our reputation as a center of excellence is attributable to the quality of our surgeons, notes Dr. Harold Stein. “Patients considering a laser procedure can be rest assured that our surgeons are amongst the most skilled and experienced in the world, explains Dr. Stein, “what really sets us apart is our expertise partnered with the most advanced laser technology available. Technologies like the new IntralaseŽ equipment. SERVICES LASIK

INTRAOCULAR TECHNIQUES

LASIK, or Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, is a type of laser eye surgery for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

Intraocular techniques, as the name implies, are done within the eye. Two intraocular techniques are available at the Bochner Eye Institute: Phakic Intraocular Lenses - often referred to as an Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE).

In order for light to focus more clearly on the retina, the outer window of the eye and the cornea must be of the proper curvature.

PRK

KERATOCONUS

During photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), the surface cells of the cornea, called the corneal epithelium, are removed instead of creating a LASIK flap. The excimer laser is applied to reshape the cornea and correct vision. Visual outcomes are equally as impressive as with LASIK, however, the healing time tends to be longer.

Keratoconus is a corneal disease that occurs when the normally round dome-shaped cornea (the clear outer area of the eye) progressively thins causing a cone-like bulge to develop. New treatment modalities are offerred including corneal collagen crosslinking with Riboflavin and intracorneal rings.

: Making a Difference Hi, how are you? I’m go od. Are you up for a cha llenge? Do you want to make a difference? If so, me tell you some thing let s that might help you. On television, radio an d other types of media , people are talking ab out recession. I didn’t what that meant so I know “Googled” it and found out that it means “a ne gative impact in our eco nomy”. So if you didn’t know before, now you do! A recession affects everyo ne so it’s up to us to cha nge it. My brother and I do our pa rt we ask our dad to bu y us things…. I think tha t helps the economy! I did more research an d found that when the economy is going down people tend to look for entertainment so the y are not so depressed. My dad encourages me to read I’ve read a lot of chapter books; books for kids my age (11 years old) you know. But recently was snooping around my parents library and found a cou ple of interesting book s that were more matur e, two of my favourite s were called ‘’the secret’’ an d ‘’become a better yo u’’. These books broug ht me to another unive rse! Some things I’ve learned fro m these books are ab out positive and nega tive energy, let me sha re it with you. It works like this, if yo u put out positive energ y, your life will be full of positive energy and sudden everything fee all of a ls so much easier. If yo u put out negative en ergy, your life will be ful l of negative energy and everythin g will feel like it’s impo ssible to do. For examp le, once my brother wa s trying to turn on my laptop and it wasn’t working pro perly, he got all frustr ated, I said relax let me try. When I tried I said ‘’it’s going to work, I know it will!’ ’ and guess what? It DID !! An example of this “se cret” is the law of attrac tion. As I read I heard more and more about of attraction. I wondere the law d what it was; I read a little more and found out, as the author sai d “the law of attraction is when yo u think so much abou t something that you will attract it to you”, it could be good or bad. Whatever your mind is thinking abou t will reflect in your life . Once I was in the mall (Vaughn Mills) and I tho ught “I’m going to see someone from school”. That was all I could thi nk about over and ov er again. We walked do wn a couple of halls an d then it happened, I saw one of my friends and said he llo to them. As said in the book the secret, wh atever your mind is focused on or determined to do wi ll happen with a little bit of faith and effort. When reading these books I learned that ou r economy can be helpe d by simple acts of kin or effort. Giving a sm dness ile or welcoming som eone with a special gre eting. These books ha ve taught me to be grateful even for the little things, for exa mple our words. Words seem so small, but isn ’t it funny how a word can make someone feel dif ferent emotions, expres s yourself or even write something to say how you feel…like I’m doing . What harm is it just to give a simple smile? I know that many adult s and children, including me, are hoping to ma ke the economy better and if we all do our part we can make a difference for our live s and many generations to come! A smile is all it tak es to make a difference!
