From the Desk of Ryan Lanzen Greetings!

Follow Us Now!

Congratulations to all the Broncos fans out there, what a defense. My condolences to all the Panthers fans, including my wife; but it was a great season by both teams. “Defense wins championships” proves to be a valid statement once again! Whether you were watching golf, watching football or just enjoying the gorgeous weather over this last weekend, I hope it was a good one. Thus far it has been a pretty good winter for spending time up at Sunrise on the slopes and from what I hear, the snow is still pretty good. That being said, the upcoming weather looks even more suitable for hiking, biking and fishing! What better way to spend a beautiful weekend up in the Mountains!

For those who may not know, there is a GREAT website that has all the information about the many White Mountain trails for hiking, biking, cross country skiing and trail running that can be found at http://www.tracks-pinetop-lakeside.org/. “TRACKS”, as it is known, is dedicated to using, promoting, preserving, and protecting multi-use trails throughout Pinetop-Lakeside and the White Mountains. It strives to support and assist the development, maintenance, and improvement of non-motorized trails, and to provide a resource for education, communication, and social interaction designed to enhance the enjoyment of outdoor experiences on the trails. You can find these maps at the Front Desk or by logging on to the TRACKS website above and there are printable copies for your use. If fishing is more in line with your desired mode of relaxation, we have a hidden gem of a fishing spot for you in the area, outside of our Torreon Trout Pond, which people come from all over to fish. Silver Creek, just outside of Show Low, is a great year round fishing spot, but they say the very best fishing is October 1st – March 31st. Just downstream from the Silver Creek Fish Hatchery, you are sure to find some good spots to try and snag “the big one” that you can brag to all your friends about! You can find more information about the conditions of the water and fishing Silver Creek this time of year by going to http://www.orvis.com/fishing_report.aspx?locationid=5925. If you are still on the fence about coming up, don’t forget it’s a long weekend with Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. We hope to see you soon and don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of any assistance! Ryan Lanzen rwl@torreon.com
