The Torreon Escape 04-13-2016

From the Desk of Ryan Lanzen Greetings Torreon Members, I have to begin by saying, what a start to the Major Golf Championship season. As hard as it was to watch Jordan Spieth’s struggles on hole 12, that excitement, intrigue and drama is what makes The Masters my favorite golf tournament of the season to watch. I’ve been fortunate enough to be at Augusta 3 times to experience the spectacle known as The Masters. Whether you are a casual golf fan or a die hard, if you get the opportunity to attend the event, take it. There is no sporting event like it, not to mention the pure beauty of the grounds; attending The Masters should be on the bucket list of even the most casual of golf fans. Congrats to Danny Willet on his victory! Speaking of exciting, the Member Welcome Back party is just a few short weeks away! This year’s event is Saturday, May 7th, 12:00-4:00 PM. The theme of this year’s party is “Run for the Roses” as the Kentucky Derby will be run at approximately 3:30 PM that afternoon. In addition to some great food, Mint Juleps and Bourbon tasting, there will be an Individual Horserace Golf Tournament starting at 11:00 AM including pari-mutuel wagering. You can sign up for the Horserace by calling the Golf Shop. Come, dress the part, wear floppy hats, meet your friends and enjoy the “Run for the Roses!” Don’t think the weekend is over just yet, you still have to celebrate MOM! Come join us for our Annual Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 8th, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Come tickle your taste buds with a mouth watering assortment of food, designed to be that holiday splurge as you celebrate those special moms who mean so much to us all! RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED; please call 928-532-8000 to make yours today! As you know, we aerified the Cabin greens last week and have been fortunate with reasonably warm weather and even some rain from Mother Nature (it hadn’t rained here in over 2 months)! The Cabin greens are healing nicely as we continue to work them back to shape. Tower greens will be aerified beginning Monday, April 18th and the course will re-open on Friday, April 22nd as both courses will be open that day. Our bunker project for 2016 is nearly complete with just a handful of fairway bunkers left to top off. The reviews of the bunkers thus far have been nothing short of fantastic. I would estimate we have been able to address roughly 70% of the bunkers and the remaining will be completed in the winter/spring 2017. We will be doing some aerification and top dressing of tees and approaches in the coming weeks, albeit these should have a fairly minimal effect on play as they recover. All in all, it has been a great off season for the golf courses and we are looking forward to some outstanding playing conditions this season. We can’t wait to see you here and if there is anything we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact us. Ryan Lanzen rwl@torreon.com
