From the Desk of Ryan Lanzen Hello members!

Follow Us Now!

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your courses in the valley as they come out of over seeding. It is definitely quieting down here at the club as it seems the majority of people who spend their winters in other places have departed. That being said, it doesn’t mean we wouldn’t love to see you here at the club! We are having some GREAT fall weather here in the mountains; if you like fall, you need to come and see us! If you are looking for some fun things to do this Halloween weekend while you are at Torreon, here are some community events to participate in:   

October 30th-31st – Haunted House at Bilbies Interiors (909 E Cooley Street, off the Deuce) - 4-10 PM, all proceeds donated to local charities. October 31st – Monster Dash Fun Run – 9:00 AM, Festival Marketplace – 3 mile fun walk/run in costume. $25 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under, proceeds will go to help with Show Low Main Street beautification project October 31st – Show Low Main Street’s Spooktacular Festival – Noon to 8:00 PM – Haunted House, vendors, festival games, Trunk or Treat, live entertainment and more

As the traffic on the golf courses has slowed down dramatically, it’s that time of year where our great maintenance team starts to undertake some different projects. The first is the leveling of the Blue tee box on Tower #13. Below are some pictures of the project which will be completed today! The next project will be the leveling and expansion of the Blue tee box on Tower #6.

Just a friendly reminder that the Cabin course will be closing for the season on November 2 nd. We are monitoring the weather as it continues to change but we are tentatively set to close the Tower on November 30 th. Please be aware that if the weather continues to cool, this date may change but we will notify you immediately if we feel the need to change the date in order to protect the golf course and prepare it to handle the winter. Have a great rest of the week! Ryan Lanzen rwl@torreon.com

Golf Shop News Greetings from the Golf Shop! Hope everyone is having a great fall. It’s amazing to think that October is nearly over and that we’re just about to head into winter. As people pack up and head out for the winter there’s a common question that’s asked of me and that is “What are you going to do all winter?”. 

Get reacquainted with my wife, I think her name is Jen, and chip away at the Honey Do list that she created the past few months.

Snowboard with my lil’ dudes

Play in a handful of tournaments in the valley

Work on some continuing education

Start taking some pictures again

And watch some football (Go Devils!)

Winter has not only been a time to reset but also a time to look at our golf operation and see what we can improve upon. I am excited to have the opportunity and time to evaluate the golf operations here and work on improving things for the membership. Some of the areas that I have been reviewing thus far have been golf course availability for members, event scheduling and formats as well as staffing. This season there was some concern about nonmembers access to the facility and the number of times non-members were playing, so I’ve been looking over the information from this season and evaluating what ways these concerns can be addressed. My primary goal in conducting such a review is to preserve the value of being a member. It is my hope this year to have a revised event schedule that not only includes our most popular events but adds some new and fun events as well. One of my biggest goals this year is to implement an online sign-up process for all of our club events via the website. I feel that this would add some convenience to members signing-up for events and help further communication between members and the golf shop staff. Probably the biggest challenge of this past season was staffing the golf shop. I am happy to say that I didn’t scare off all of the assistants this year and some actually want to return next year. I am looking at retaining 2-3 of the current assistants from the golf shop for the 2016 season. I do have some very promising candidates that I’ve already been speaking to, that have golf shop experience at both public and private clubs. I believe that providing excellent service first starts with a staff that is familiar with the club and its members and I am working toward this goal. Thanks so much for a great 2015 season and have a great winter. I hope everyone is hitting it long and straight, or at the very least having fun. Randy Bigos, PGA reb@torreon.com
