Older Babies As your baby grows, there are more options for photoshoots. At around six months, or once your baby is sitting, is an ideal time. A cake smash session is also a great first birthday present. This is done in three parts: a birthday shoot with little one in a favourite or birthday outfit with balloons and decorations or perhaps favourite toys; then add the cake and see what happens! To clean up there’s a fun bath session with bubbles and more opportunities for gorgeous photos. Family Sessions Claire also offers family sessions where you can have a variety of images and group arrangements taken, so you’ll have a great selection of images to admire and enjoy. All sessions can take place in the comfort of Claire’s warm, bright, friendly studio, or in a location of your choice. So if you have a favourite beach, park or woods, Claire can set up a photoshoot for

your family where they can have fun in a relaxed environment. “I love capturing special moments in my photographs,” Claire says. “Whether it’s a family portrait session, children playing on the beach, or a newborn baby, I aim to photograph personalities, love, fun and happy memories that you will treasure forever.” Claire’s facilities and knowledge, combined with her love of taking photographs, will ensure she creates truly special images of you and your family. Porthleven Food Festival Friday 26 – Sunday 28th April 2019

A 3-day feast of food, music and fun. Porthleven Food Festival is an annual celebration of food and drink with lots of music and family fun. There’s no entrance fee and the daytime activities are mostly free with tickets only needed for the evening Shipyard Sessions. TOP TIP: Visit on Sunday. There’s still a full programme of music, chefs and family events and you can avoid the Saturday crowds.

Starters Whether you want to watch a Michelinstarred chef cook up a storm or boogie to the bands on the Lime Kiln Stage there’s loads to do by day. And with around 100 food stalls dotted around the harbour, you’ll be spoilt for choice on eats. Mains Over on the Moors Field you’ll find plenty to keep the kids entertained with rides, circus skills, craft workshops and tons more family-friendly fun. Drop in for ten minutes or stay all day - there's lots of free entertainment. Keep an eye out in the harbour for a visiting mermaid…

TOP TIP: Take it easy and stay over on the Festival camping fields. Bring your own tent or motorhome or hire an amazing Shire Hut or pre-erected Bell Tent.

Dessert Stay in town for the evening Shipyard Sessions. This year Mad Dog McRea will open the event on Friday evening, supported by The Roustabouts. Saturday is a tribute to Motown featuring some of Cornwall’s finest soul musicians and Sunday features an all-Porthleven line-up including Rosie Crow, Half Kut and Go Go Skank. Kids are welcome at the evening music events but must be accompanied by an adult. Under 12s go free and 12-16 yearolds are half price.

Truro Breast Friends

Supporting you on your breastfeeding journey Choosing to breastfeed your baby can be both rewarding and challenging. It’s good to know that there are groups across the county who can support you throughout your breastfeeding journey. Truro Breast Friends is a peer supporter led group held by mums based in the Truro area. They meet on a Monday between 12:30 and 2pm at the Trelander Family Hub in Truro. Any mum and family giving their baby breast milk is welcome to come along for as long as they like. Antenatal mums are also welcome - it can be really helpful to gain a bit of an insight into the world of breastfeeding before your baby arrives. The excellent facilities at Trelander Family Hub means its perfect for mums with toddlers as well as newborn babies. Pop in for support, friendship or just a general chat on how things are going with your baby. Support covers a huge range of topics, including: * Sleep * Regression * Teething * Development stages * and lots more! All peer supporters are trained by Real Baby Milk and undergo DBS checks, and annual update training. In addition to their weekly group, mums are supported 7 days a week via Truro Breast Friends’ Facebook group where mums can ask questions, connect with each other and peer supporters, and share information. Emergency First Aid for Burns Burns can be a frightening thought for parents, but there are some immediate first aid steps everyone can do to help. Cornwall Resus are on hand to provide some easy advice and top tips.

1. Cool - keep under running water 2. Remove - anything loose like a watch 3. Dress - with a loose layer of clean cling wrap • Immediately remove from the heat source and place affected area under cool running water. You can use a jug or cup in a washing up bowl if a running tap is difficult. Do this for 20-30 minutes. The aim is to cool the root of the burn not just the surface skin. • Make sure the rest of your child is kept warm with a blanket/ towel or spare clothing. • Remove any loose items like a watch, DO NOT attempt to remove clothing that has been embedded in the burn, this may make things worse. Cool the burn with the clothing still in place. • Use a LOOSE layer of cling film to cover the affected area to transport to Minor Injuries unit or Emergency Department. This is to stop anything getting into the burn and should not be too tight. Remove the first part of the roll to get to the cleaner section of cling film. • DO NOT use anything like butter or oil on the burn. This will make it worse. You can use specialist burns dressing if you have them but cool running water is the easiest first treatment. • Seek medical attention for all but minor superficial burns. If in doubt get it checked out as they can be painful and children can easily go into shock after a burn. Cornwall Resus offer Baby & Child First Aid courses.
