Babyprints Cornwall Create a precious keepsake to treasure forever with Trudy from Babyprints Cornwall. Trudy specialises in creating beautiful, framed casts of hands and feet. Over the years she has taken great pleasure in creating casts of babies of only days old, all the way through to grandparents. She began her business five years ago, after she suffered a life changing event in the form of a brain tumour. Whilst she spent time recuperating she kept thinking about the plan she had long harboured to start a

business she would enjoy. Trudy had seen Babyprints before she moved to Cornwall, and thought it was the perfect idea. A friend who runs a Babyprints business near London had sparked her interest, and having kept careful watch she knew this was a business she wanted to be part of. “I love meeting all the new babies and their families,” says Trudy. “Sometimes a visit to me is the first trip out for a family with their newborn.” The comfortable one-toone home based experience that Trudy offers provides reassurance to new mums and dads.

“My clients have returned time and again with babies and siblings. I have enjoyed seeing whole families grow over the years and have been kept busy charting their progress.” Family sessions are a beautiful way of capturing the whole family in ‘nurture’ frames. Trudy recently did this for a family whose youngest has a life limiting health issue. Customers are welcomed into Trudy’s relaxing studio in central Truro where they can see sample frames and choose which style they would like their casts framed in. Each appointment takes between 30 mins to an hour. To create a 3D cast, Trudy makes a mould, which takes approximately two minutes for each hand or foot and is entirely safe. The mixture is a natural product, made from seaweed, and is non-toxic and biodegradable, so casts can be taken from newborn. Your baby or child will have their hands or feet dipped into a warm mixture which then becomes firm (but flexible), after a minute or two the hand or foot can easily slide out. Even better, there is no residue, so the hand or foot comes out clean. “I love taking the casts of newborns, as they are only tiny for such a short time, this captures those moments forever.” For impressions, Trudy uses a very soft terracotta clay, which takes literally seconds to do. Impressions are usually taken from 3 months. From these, Trudy can also produce unique solid silver hand and footprint jewellery, charms, cufflinks and keyrings. These can be created at any age as the individual print is taken and miniaturised to be put onto the jewelley. Please mention Tots About when

FIGHT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT TRURO HIGH SCHOOL Pupils at Truro High School are challenging some of the UK’s best known companies over their environmental policies and continued allegiance to single-use plastic. The girls have written to the CEOs of a number of companies demanding answers and are also returning boxes of unwanted packing to others. The project is part of Truro High School’s Learn Challenge Curriculum which sees girls as young as 4 years old encouraged to question the status quo and have a voice in the campaign for change. Teacher Yvette Simpson explained: “This approach to learning is built around the principle of the girls having greater involvement and personal investment in their work. It requires deep thinking, encourages the class to work using a question as the starting point, and for their interests to guide the research. Prep 5 have certainly relished this

Fireworks and Bonfire Season will soon be upon us and whilst this is a fun time for the whole family, there are a few pointers to be aware of and put in place to ensure the celebrations go off with a bang, in the right way! Remember it's always safest to attend a public fireworks and bonfire display. With any bonfire/fireworks at home, ensure you have a bucket of sand nearby, easy access to plenty of water, and a well stocked first aid kit including a sterile saline solution to irrigate eyes should sparks be blown in to them. If any burn injuries are sustained, follow this advice: • Hold the affected area under tepid running water for at least 20mins. • Keep the person warm and look out for signs of shock. • Remove loose clothing/jewellery from around the burn but never remove anything that’s already stuck to the burn. • Cover the burn in cling film. • If the burn has blistered and the affected area is the size of the casualty’s palm then call 999. • Call 999 if the burn has affected all layers of skin.
