The United States Department of State announced a new strategy aiming to reach 90 million international tourists by 2027 which will bring in revenues of UK£232,000 million. This plan comes after the sector was devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. For the plan to work, tourism will have to be more resilient, sustainable and equitable. In addition and to aid this process, the government will modernise and simplify entry procedures for international visitors. The USA still requires arriving tourists to provide proof of vaccination and almost all international passengers arriving by air test negative before travelling. Prior to the pandemic, the USA received 79.4 million international visitors, which dropped to 19.2 million in 2020 to grow to 22.1 million in 2021.
TURKEY AIMS FOR 50M TOURISTS The Turkish government’s aim to make tourism one of its main economy engines hopes to fulfil that with an estimate of arrivals in 2022 the country reaching 50 million tourists, exceeding UK£33 billion in tourism revenue. Turkey took advantage of the 2 years of the pandemic to work to transform its tourism sector and increase quality products as well a big focus on sustainability and safety. Turkey is also facing a human resource problem but has been pushing for recruitment and training hoping to meet the demand.
