100 Years of Squamish Squamish has a lot to celebrate this year. It has been 100 years since the name “Squamish” was adopted and since the original townsite, today’s downtown area, was completed. 1914 was a big year for Squamish, and 2014 is even bigger! Join us this year for one, or several, of our events as we celebrate 100 years of Squamish!

OFFICIAL SQUAMISH ADVENTURE GUIDE

As long as 5,000 years ago descendants of the Sko-mish, or Squamish people, arrived at the Howe Sound. For thousands of years the Squamish Nation has called Squamish home, as this land provided a lush Valley for their families to hunt, trap and fish.

Britannia Mine Museum The perfect stop between Vancouver and Whistler to step back in time to learn what life was like when Britannia was a mining town, and as one of the British Empire’s top producing copper mines. Now 110 years later, the National Historic Site features fun, modern and historical exhibits, the aweinspiring 20-storey Mill building, as well as the memorable underground train and gold panning area. www.britanniaminemuseum.com

Eagle Viewing & Floats

Squamish is the perfect home base for a snowmobiling vacation offering access to the best snowmobiling terrain in South Western BC. All of the major trailheads offer mountain access and are within a 30 to 60 minute drive. A local favourite is the Brohm Ridge area located 10 minutes north of Squamish.

Squamish plays host to one of the largest congregations of wintering bald eagles in North America between the months of November and January. There are two ways to view them, from land or on the water. If land is your choice, be sure to stop by the “Eagle Run Park” viewing facility located on the municipal dyke in Brackendale. If you want to take in the action by water go on a float trip and view the regal eagles in their natural environment.
