O Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) está bem vivo, garantiu-nos o seu director, Paulo Pinheiro, a propósito das provas especiais do Rallye Casinos do Algarve. Entre treinos, testes secretos, apresentações mundiais de marcas, corridas, e outros eventos, o AIA registou uma taxa de ocupação superior a 80 por cento em 2014.

Os apartamentos turísticos já abriram este verão, e o hotel deverá estar concluído no terceiro trimestre do próximo ano. Para 2015, Pinheiro está optimista e reporta que o plano de recuperação financeira do AIA está a correr dentro da normalidade.

The Algarve International Circuit (AIA) hosted the special laps of the Algarve Casinos Rally, last Saturday, and it is very much alive all year long, assures us director Paulo Pinheiro.

Among training, secret trials, international car presentations, races, track days and corporate events, the track registered an occupancy rate of over 80 per cent in 2014. The brand new apartment complex premiered this summer, and the hotel is due to be concluded during the third quarter of next year. Paulo Pinheiro is optimistic about 2015, and reports that the financial recovery plan is going well within normality.

Das Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) ist sehr lebendig, versicherte uns Direktor Paulo Pinheiro anlässlich des Spezialrennens der Rallye Casinos do Algarve. Mit Trainingsfahrten, geheimen Testfahrten, Weltpremieren bekannter Marken, Rennen und anderen Veranstaltungen verzeichnet das AIA 2014 eine Auslastung von über 80 Prozent. Die Touristenapartments stehen bereits seit dem Sommer zur Verfügung und das Hotel dürfte im dritten Quartal des kommenden Jahres fertig sein. Pinheiro sieht dem Jahr 2015 optimistisch entgegen und berichtet, der Plan zur Konsolidierung der Finanzen verlaufe im Rahmen der Normalität.

O Ano da Consolidação • The year of consolidation • Das Jahr der Konsolidierung Que está previsto para 2015 no AIA? Paulo Pinheiro: Vai ser um ano com uma agenda bastante ocupada.

Vamos ter cinco corridas internacionais. Estamos ainda a tentar fechar com o mundial de Superbikes, ainda não está garantido. Vamos ter o CEV REPSOL, o Blancpain, os históricos, a prova das 32 horas que se estreia ainda este ano e o TC3, que é o novo campeonato mundial de turismo que virá pela primeira vez ao Algarve. Vamos também ter cinco apresentações de marcas, que não posso ainda revelar.

Essencialmente, será a consolidação do trabalho de que temos vindo a desenvolver.

Como estão as outras valências do autódromo?

O kartódromo continua a funcionar bem porque está directamente relacionado com o turismo da época de sol e praia. Conseguimos também concluir os nossos apartamentos turísticos que entraram em operação no início do Verão. Arrancámos logo com praticamente 100 por cento de ocupação nos apartamentos nos meses de Julho, Agosto e parcialmente em Setembro. Durante o verão, aproveitamos um pouco do turismo que o Algarve recebe. No inverno, é um pouco ao contrário, somos nós que atraímos turismo. Este ano, tivemos a apresentação mundial do novo BMW M3/M4, tivemos uma série de eventos privados de várias marcas de automóveis e pneus durante a época baixa.

Estamos agora a concluir o hotel, que se tudo correr bem, estará pronto no terceiro trimestre de 2015.

Em que fase está o Parque Tecnológico?

Conseguimos recentemente desenvolver dois contactos novos. Vamos ver como corre. Será num ritmo muito mais lento que inicialmente antecipámos. O parque tecnológico é algo para um cliente muito específico. As marcas quando escolhem outros países diferentes da sua sede para criarem desenvolvimento, isso está sempre, ou quase sempre, relacionado com vantagens fiscais. Por exemplo, a Irlanda tem agora uma grande quantidade de empresas da área farmacêutica e da área electrónica e de computadores, principalmente devido a vantagens fiscais. Em Portugal, que eu saiba, não temos nenhum programa virado para a captação desse tipo de empresas. Temos de nos valer das nossas características intrínsecas: o clima, a nossa localização, a facilidade de ligação ao resto da Europa e a qualidade da nossa mão-de-obra.

What can we expect for 2015 in the AIA? Paulo Pinheiro: It will be a year with a very busy schedule again.

We will have five international races. We are still trying to close with the World Superbike Championship, but this not yet guaranteed.

We will have the CEV Repsol championship, Blancpain GT Series, Algarve Classic Festival, the MaxiEndurance 32 hour race which will premier still this year, and finally the TC3 International Series, which is the new world tourism championship, for the first time in the Algarve. As well, we will have five international presentations of car brands and models, which I cannot yet reveal. Basically, it will be the consolidation of the work we have been developing so far.

What can you tell us about the other infrastructures of the autodrome?

The karting circuit had a brilliant year because it is directly related to the sun and beach tourism. We also managed to conclude the apartment complex which began to operate early this summer.

We started up with almost 100 per cent occupancy rates during July, August and partly September. Of course, during the summer, we benefit a little bit from the tourism that the Algarve hosts. In the winter it is somewhat the opposite, we attract the tourism. This year, we had the worldwide presentation of the new BMW M3/M4 series, as well as several private events from car and tyre brands during the lower season. We are now concluding the hotel, and if everything goes well, it will be ready in the third quarter of 2015.

At which stage is the technology park?

Recently, we managed to gather two new contacts. Let’s see what happens. It will develop slower than what we initially planned. The technology park is something for a very specific client. Please note that brands, whenever they choose to leave their countries to invest abroad, that is always, or in most cases, related to tax advantages. Think of Ireland that now hosts a large number of hight-tech pharmaceutics, electronics and computer related companies, mainly because of fiscal benefits. In Portugal, as far as I know, there is no such thing. So, we have to sell our intrinsic characteristics: the climate, our location, the easy connection to the rest of Europe and the quality and skills of our labour force.

Was ist 2015 im AIA geplant?

Paulo Pinheiro: Es wird ein Jahr mit einem gut gefüllten Terminplan. Es werden fünf internationale Rennen ausgetragen.

Wir versuchen noch mit der Superbike Weltmeisterschaft eine Übereinkunft zu treffen, aber das ist momentan noch nicht gesichert. Wir haben die CEV und die Blancpain, die Rennen mit historischen Sportwagen, das erstmalig stattfindende 32-Stunden-Rennen und die TC3 - die neue Weltmeisterschaft der Tourenwagen – die zum ersten Mal in die Algarve kommen wird. Es wird außerdem fünf Markenpräsentationen geben, über die ich noch nichts verraten kann. Im Wesentlichen ist dies das Ergebnis der Aufbauarbeit, die wir geleistet haben.

Was sind die anderen Pluspunkte des Autódromo?

Die Kartbahn läuft weiterhin gut, weil sie in der Sommersaison vom Tourismus profitiert. Außerdem konnten wir unsere Touristenapartments fertigstellen, die Anfang dieses Sommers in Betrieb genommen wurden. In den Monaten Juli/ August und teilweise auch im September, hatten wir eine Auslastung von nahezu 100 Prozent. Im Sommer profitieren wir ein wenig vom Tourismus in der Algarve. Im Winter ist es andersherum: Dann ziehen wir den Tourismus an. In diesem Jahr fand die Weltpremiere des BMW M3/M4 bei uns statt, wir hatten in der Nebensaison einige Privatveranstaltungen verschiedener Auto- und Reifenmarken zu Gast. Momentan wird unser Hotel gebaut, und wenn alles gut läuft, ist es im dritten Quartal 2015 fertig.

In welcher Phase befindet sich der Technologiepark?

Vor Kurzem ist es uns gelungen, zwei neue Kontakte auszubauen. Wir werden sehen, wie es läuft. Alles verläuft in einem sehr viel langsameren Rhythmus als anfänglich angenommen. Der Technologiepark spricht eine sehr spezifische Klientel an. Wenn Firmen beschließen sich im Ausland anzusiedeln, um zu expandieren, geschieht dies fast immer im Zusammenhang mit Steuervorteilen. In Irland gibt es beispielsweise, vor allem aufgrund von Steuervorteilen, viele Firmen aus dem Bereich Pharmazeutik und aus der Elektronikund Computerbranche.

A crise veio a prejudicar o projecto do AIA? Acho que ninguém se prepara para uma crise como a que aconteceu entre 2008 e 2010. A má conjuntura económica não atingiu apenas o ramo financeiro e o imobiliário. Atingiu o ramo automóvel e tornou tudo muito mais difícil. Penso que 2012 foi talvez um ponto de viragem e em 2013 já se sentiu a transição. Este ano, foi o primeiro “mais normal”, digamos assim, e esperamos que 2015 seja um ano de consolidação.

Paulo Pinheiro Ou seja, acha que já se está a sentir uma retoma?

Em termos de desporto automóvel, não tanto. Ainda se nota alguma retracção. Mas em termos de indústria e em termos de eventos, as coisas aos poucos começam a voltar um pouco ao que eram.

Muitas pessoas acham que o AIA foi sobredimensionado relativamente à dimensão do Algarve. Qual a sua opinião?

Este projecto não tem nada a ver com Portugal nem com o Algarve. É um projecto de nível mundial, foi desenhado e pensado para clientes a nível mundial. É por isso que nós conseguimos sobreviver, com muitas dificuldades como é óbvio, porque os nossos clientes estão directamente projectados para o mercado mundial.

Não seria interessante ter mais vida no AIA? É difícil ter mais vida porque nós já temos uma ocupação de mais de 300 dias por ano. Por exemplo, desde o dia 5 de Setembro até 20 de Novembro, a pista esteve apenas 2 dias parada. Isso passa pouco cá para fora, porque são treinos e testes secretos, não são eventos de público. Gostaríamos obviamente de ter muito mais pessoas a assistir às corridas. No mundo, na Europa e particularmente em Portugal tem havido algum distanciamento do público em relação aos eventos do desporto motorizado. Até a F1 tem falta de público. As corridas são hoje sobretudo um espectáculo televisivo, e não um produto para se ver ao vivo. É claro que isso tem de ser combatido e temos de criar métodos alternativos para trazer as pessoas de novo às corridas. E depois há ainda um problema maior: não há público jovem. Se perguntar a qualquer miúdo do secundário quem é o campeão do mundo de F1 actual, ninguém saberá… de certeza absoluta!

Há esperança de um dia vermos uma corrida F1 no AIA? Duvido muito. O país não tem condições financeiras para isso. É algo que não depende de nós, mas temos de ser realistas e num futuro próximo penso que não haverá.

Vão continuar a promover festivais e concertos?

Não. Não temos agenda livre. Além disso, o sobrecusto e a margem de risco que acarretam, não se justifica. Fizemos uma experiência com o Continente que correu relativamente bem, mas não é a nossa zona de conforto.

Did the crises affect the project as whole?

Indeed, nobody was ready for the crisis that hit us between 2008 and 2010. The economic downturn reached not only the financial and real estates bussinesses, but also damaged the car industry, making everything a lot harder. I think that 2012 was perhaps the turning point. And in 2013, we already felt a transition. This year was yet the first “normal” one, let’s put it that way! We hope that 2015 will be the consolidation year.

That is to say that you are experiencing an upturn?

In terms of car sports not so much. There is still some retraction.

But in terms of car industry and events, things slowly begin to get back on track.

Many people think that the Autodrome project is somehow oversized compared to the Algarve or even Portugal itself. What is your opinion?

This project has nothing to do with Portugal, nor with the Algarve. It is a worldwide project, which was designed and thought for clients at an international scale.

Wouldn’t it be more interesting to have more life in the AIA? It is difficult to have more life because we already have over 300 days per year of occupancy. For instance, from September 5th to November 20th, the race track was not used for only two days! No one knows about it because trainings and trials are many times secret, they are not public events. Of course we would like to have more people watching races. Globally, in Europe and mainly in Portugal, there is a growing divorce between public and motorsport’s events. There is a lack of public even in the F1! Today, car races are mainly a TV show, and not a product to be seen live.

Of course we need to struggle against that. However, there is still another major problem: there are no young audiences. And if you ask to any secondary school student who is the Formula 1 World Champion these days, for sure, nobody will know...

Can we expect a F1 race to take place in the Algarve one day?

I very much doubt. Portugal cannot afford that.

Will you keep promoting festivals and concerts?

No. We have a very busy schedule. Furthermore, the involving additional costs and the risk margin are no longer justified. We did an experience with «Continente» supermarket network which worked relatively well, but it is not our comfort zone.

Since the opening in 2008, you must have quite some stories to tell...

What will be your forthcoming great event?

It will be the MaxiEndurance 32h, the world’s longest race which will take place from December 12th to the 14th. It is the first time ever that there is a race under FIA lasting more than 24 hours. It will grant us an entry into the Guiness Book of Records. We will have 20 to 25 teams with five pilots per car. It will be a fantastic challenge to close the year..

In Portugal gibt es meines Wissens kein einziges Programm, das Anreize für diese Art von Unternehmen bietet. Wir müssen unsere ureigenen Vorteile betonen: das Klima, unsere Lage, die gute Erreichbarkeit innerhalb Europas und die Qualität unserer Arbeitskräfte.

Hat die Krise dem Projekt AIA geschadet?

Ich glaube niemand ist auf eine Krise wie die zwischen 2008 und 2010 vorbereitet. Die schlechte Wirtschaftskonjunktur betraf nicht nur die Finanz- und die Immobilienbranche. Sie betraf auch die Automobilbranche und das machte alles sehr viel schwieriger.

Ich glaube vielleicht war 2012 der Wendepunkt und 2013 war die Veränderung bereits spürbar. Dieses Jahr war das erste, sagen wir „normalere“ Jahr und wir hoffen, dass 2015 ein Jahr der Konsolidierung wird.

Heißt das, sie glauben, der Aufschwung sei bereits spürbar?

Hinsichtlich des Automobilsports noch nicht so sehr. Dort sind noch einige Störfakturen im Spiel. Aber in der Industrie, und bei den Veranstaltungen wird die Lage schrittweise wieder so, wie sie einmal war.

Viele Menschen finden, das AIA sei im Vergleich zur Größe der Region Algarve überdimensioniert. Wie ist ihre Meinung?

Dieses Projekt hat weder etwas mit Portugal noch mit der Algarve zu tun. Es ist ein Projekt auf Weltniveau, es wurde für Kunden aus der ganzen Welt geplant und erdacht.

Wäre es nicht interessant, wenn das AIA belebter wäre?

Es ist schwierig es noch belebter zu machen, denn wir haben eine Auslastung an mehr als 300 Tagen im Jahr. Zum Beispiel war die Piste vom 5. September bis 20. November nur an zwei Tagen frei.

Davon bekommt man als Außenstehender kaum etwas mit, weil es geheime Trainings- und Testfahrten sind und keine öffentlichen Veranstaltungen. Natürlich fänden wir es gut, wenn viel mehr Zuschauer zu den Rennen kommen würden. Weltweit, in Europa und insbesondere in Portugal ist bei Motorsportveranstaltungen ein Rückgang der Zuschauerzahlen zu verzeichnen. Sogar der Formel 1 fehlt das Publikum. Die Rennen sind heutzutage vor allem ein Fernsehspektakel und kein Produkt, das man sich live anschaut. Es ist klar, dass man dagegen ankämpfen muss. Und dann gibt es noch ein großes Problem: Es gibt kein junges Publikum. Wenn sie heute irgendeinen Schuljungen fragen, wer in der Formel 1 Weltmeister ist, weiß das keiner von ihnen … ganz bestimmt nicht!

Besteht Hoffnung, eines Tages ein Formel 1 Rennen im AIA sehen zu können?

Da habe ich große Zweifel. Das Land hat nicht die finanziellen Mittel dafür.

Werden sie weiterhin Festivals und Konzerte veranstalten?

Nein. Wir haben keine Termine mehr frei. Außerdem rechtfertigen zusätzliche Kosten und ein gesteigertes Risiko den Aufwand nicht.

Wir haben eine gemeinsam mit der Supermarkt Continente ein Konzert veranstaltet, das relativ gut gelaufen ist, aber dies ist nicht der Bereich, in dem wir uns wohlfühlen.

Im Laufe der Jahre haben Sie bestimmt viele Zwischenfälle erlebt.

Erzählen Sie uns etwas darüber?

Es gab viele (Gelächter). Ich darf darüber noch nicht berichten … vielleicht in ein paar Jahren. Es gab die normalen Zwischenfälle: Autos, die Räder verlieren oder von der Bahn abkommen, Zusammenstöße. Am Schlimmsten war das gebrochene Bein eines Motorradfahrers. An den Tagen der offenen Tür hatten wir 70-jährige Senioren hier, die mit ihren VW-Bullis auf der Rennstrecke herumgefahren sind …

Welche ist die nächste Großveranstaltung?

Das „MaxiEndurance 32h“ vom 12. – 14. Dezember, das längste Rennen der Welt. Es ist das erste Mal, dass unter der Schirmherrschaft des Weltverbands FIA ein Rennen stattfindet, das länger als 24 Stunden dauert. Wir wollen damit ins Guinnessbuch der Rekorde kommen. 20 – 25 Teams mit jeweils fünf Fahrern werden teilnehmen. Es wird ein fantastisches Rennen, mit dem wir das Jahr im großen Rahmen abzuschließen.

O Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) abriu as portas em 02 de Novembro de 2008, depois de apenas sete meses de construção. Uma verdadeira corrida contra o tempo, para receber a grande final do Campeonato do Mundo de Superbike, a prova inaugural. Projecto inovador a nível mundial, foi concebido para oferecer todas as facilidades aos mais variados sectores da indústria motorizada, desde os construtores às equipas de competição e empresas, de forma a poderem apresentar, testar e desenvolver os seus produtos. O mesmo espaço físico concentra: Autódromo, Kartódromo, Off-Road Park, Hotel, Apartamentos (Vista do Falcão Residences), Parque Tecnológico e Complexo Desportivo.

Tavira shows science made in Algarve • Tavira zeigt Forschung made in Algarve O Mercado da Ribeira, em Tavira, vai acolher uma mostra de projectos científicos desenvolvidos no Algarve, nos dias 28 e 29 de Novembro. Vários investigadores dão a conhecer ao vivo, de um modo simples e acessível, mais de vinte projectos de investigação actualmente em desenvolvimento na região. Os visitantes terão a oportunidade não apenas de aprender e experimentar, mas também de falar com os cientistas. O evento une vários parceiros locais, como a Universidade do Algarve e a autarquia. É organizado pelo Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira, que vai promover também um conjunto de palestras e workshops para as escolas. A mostra pode ser visitada entre as 10h00 e as 18h00 na sexta-feira, e no Sábado entre as 14h00 e as 20h00.

The Mercado da Ribeira, in Tavira, will host an exhibition of scientific projects developed in the Algarve, from November 28th to the 29th.

Several researchers will present, in a simple and accessible way, over twenty research projects.

The visitors will have the opportunity to learn and try out, as well as to speak with the scientists.

The event joins various local partners, like the University of the Algarve and the municipality. It is organized by the Centro de Ciência Viva (Live Science Centre) of Tavira, which will promote as well a series of talks and workshops for schools.

The exhibition can be visited from 10am to 6pm on Fridays, and Saturdays from 2pm to 8pm.

Esta não é uma solução definitiva para o Atrium (o imóvel continua à venda no mercado imobiliário). É apenas provisória sem custos para a autarquia.

The municipality of Faro, with the help of the local development agency, Ambifaro, has just come to an agreement with the Millennium BCP - the bank entity that holds the ownership rights of the old Atrium Shopping Centre - to reopen that space during Christmas. Located in one of the most emblematic streets of the downtown Faro (Rua de Santo António), this centre has been closed and empty since August 2009. The idea is to open the space to creative projects, workshops, temporary pop-up stores, exhibitions and thematic markets in connection with local entities, associations, public or private companies from the region.

This is not a definitive solution for the Atrium (the property is still being sold at the real estate market). It is rather a temporary one without any costs for the municipality.

Die Bezirksverwaltung Faro hat soeben über ihre Agentur für Stadtentwicklung eine Vereinbarung mit der Bank Millenium bcp über eine teilweise Öffnung des Einkaufszentrums Atrium in der Weihnachtszeit getroffen – die Bank ist Eigentümerin des Einkaufszentrums. Das Einkaufszentrum in einer emblematischen Straße im Stadtzentrum (Rua de Santo António) ist seit August 2009 geschlossen und steht leer. Die Räumlichkeiten sollen von lokalen Institutionen, Vereinen sowie staatlichen und privaten Unternehmen aus der Region Algarve gemeinsam für Kreativprojekte, Workshops, temporäre Läden, Pop-ups, Ausstellungen und Themenmärkte genutzt werden. Dies ist allerdings keine endgültige Lösung für das Atrium (die Immobilie wird weiterhin zum Verkauf angeboten), sondern eine provisorische Massnahme, ohne Kosten für den Bezirk.

Os WGA foram instituídos este ano, integrados nos World Travel Awards, que existem desde 1993. Os prémios resultam da votação on-line de profissionais do sector e do público. Por outro lado, o Algarve vai lançar a nova campanha promocional ‘golf4all’ num novo torneio internacional de golfe para jogadores de mobilidade reduzida, a disputar no Pestana Vila Sol, de 18 a 23 de Novembro.

Portugal has just been voted the best European and also world golf destination in the first edition of the World Golf Awards (WGA).

The announcement was made last Saturday at a ceremony held in Hotel Conrad Algarve, Quinta do Lago. Portugal came out with the two most important awards of the initiative, mainly due to the excellence of the 40 golf courses in the Algarve, stressed the organization. The WGA have been created this year, integrated in World Travel Awards, which exist since 1993.

The awards are the result of online voting from professionals and the public in general.

Furthermore, the Algarve will launch the new promotional campaign ‘golf4all’ on a new international golf tournament for players with reduced mobility, to take place at the Pestana Vila Sol, from 18th to 23rd November.

Die Entscheidung wurde am vergangenen Samstag im Rahmen einer Zeremonie im Hotel Conrad Algarve in der Quinta do Lago verkündet. Portugal ging vor allem wegen der hohen Qualität der 40 Golfplätze der Algarve, mit den beiden wichtigsten Auszeichnungen aus der Initiative hervor, so betonten die Organisatoren. Die WGA wurden in diesem Jahr erstmalig im Rahmen der World Travel Awards vergeben, die schon seit 1993 existieren. Das Ergebnis wurde per Onlineabstimmung ermittelt, an der Beschäftigte aus der Branche und die Öffentlichkeit sich beteiligten. Außerdem startet in der Algarve mit „golf4all“ eine Werbekampagne für ein neues internationales Golfturnier für Spieler mit eingeschränkter Mobilität, das vom 18. – 23. November auf dem Golfplatz des Pestana Vila Sol ausgetragen wird.

Climbing up to the Cerro de São Miguel, a well-known 3,8 km long mountain located between Faro and Olhão, is a competition with very Specific characteristics, which will take place on Sunday, Dezember the 7th.

The competition is organized by the Casa do Povo, the municipality of Olhão, based in Moncarapacho, and will start at 11am nearby the headquarters of this institution. The athletes will make a 7,2 km journey to reach the target.

Every federated and a non federated national and international athletes can participate, and there will be competitions for all ages (juniors, seniors and veterans). Jovens karatecas de Olhão brilham em Espanha Young karate players from Olhão achieve huge victory in Spain • Junge Karatekämpfer aus Olhão glänzten in Spanien Beatriz Gregório e Albino Sousa, da Casa do Benfica de Olhão, venceram o XIV Trofeo Karate Diputacion de Córdoba, nos seus escalões, no passado fim-de-semana, em Espanha. O torneio, que se realizou na localidade de Posadas, contou com a participação de cerca de 500 atletas, representantes de 33 clubes espanhóis (Málaga, Sevilha, Córdoba, Granada, Jerez, entre outros) e de um português (Casa do Benfica de Olhão). Com o pavilhão lotado, Beatriz e Albino venceram tão claramente os seus adversários que foram bastante aplaudidos, como se fossem atletas da casa.

Algarve hand in hand with Mozambique • Algarve Hand in Hand mit Mosambik “Vocês estão hoje como nós estávamos em 1963”, explicou Paulo Filipe, um dos responsáveis da SALEXPOR, aos autarcas moçambicanos. Em 2013, os 56 membros que constituem a Associação de Produtores da Ilha de Moçambique produziram 7570 toneladas em 37 áreas diferentes de produção.

Contudo, o produto final é muitas vezes vendido em estado bruto e com pouca qualidade. É vendido a cerca de um metical por quilo (1 euro vale 40 meticais), preço demasiado baixo que depois é inflacionado por especuladores e intermediários. Não existem estruturas de armazenamento, nem de embalagem.

Através do Google Earth, Paulo Filipe identificou na ilha três blocos de produção, que poderão “evoluir para a instalação de estruturas mais eficientes”, englobando também outras áreas do distrito e outros interessados em aderir a um agrupamento de salineiros. Uma estratégia traçada à imagem do que se fez no Algarve.

“Na década de 1960, este grupo desenvolveu um processo comunitário inovador” que passou pela reorganização do universo de salinas e de pequenos produtores espalhados pelo sotavento, de modo a baixar os custos de produção. “Tivemos de abandonar algumas áreas de produção porque o sal tinha de ser transportado em barcos pequenos e atravessar canais. Eliminamos muitas zonas e criamos uma nova infra-estrutura compacta. No fundo é repetir lá, o que se fez cá”, exemplifica.

De facto, o sucesso do grupo algarvio deve-se à opção estratégica de criar de raiz uma salina industrial de 300 hectares em Castro Marim que actualmente é “a mais moderna de Portugal”. Isto permitiu baixar os custos de produção e “alavancar todo o processo comunitário”.

Actualmente, no seu conjunto, o grupo SALEXPOR explora cerca de 900 hectares de salinas, localizadas entre o Ludo (Loulé) e Castro Marim – produzindo 85 000 toneladas de sal marinho (57% do total da produção portuguesa).

Allerdings wird das Endprodukt oft in einem qualitativ minderwertigen Rohzustand verkauft. Der Kilopreis liegt bei etwa einem Metical (1 Euro = 40 Meticais), einem sehr geringen Preis, der von Spekulanten und Zwischenhändlern in die Höhe getrieben wird. Für die Lagerung oder Verpackung existiert keine Infrastruktur.

Via Google Earth entdeckte Paulo Filipe drei Produktionskomplexe, die geeignet sein könnten, „um effizientere Infrastrukturen“ aufzubauen.

Weitere Gebiete des Distrikts und weitere Interessenten könnten sich der Gruppe anschließen. Die Strategie orientiert sich an der einstmaligen Entwicklung in der Algarve. „In den 1960er Jahren realisierte die Gruppe eine innovative Fusion von Salinen und Kleinerzeugern in der Ostalgarve, durch die Produktionskosten gesenkt werden konnten. „Einige Produktionsgebiete wurden aufgegeben, weil das Salz mit kleinen Booten über Kanäle transportiert werden musste. Viele Gebiete haben wir eliminiert und eine neue kompakte Infrastruktur aufgebaut. Im Grunde wollen wir dort wiederholen, was wir hier getan haben“, veranschaulicht er.

Faktisch verdankt die Unternehmensgruppe der Algarve ihren Erfolg der strategischen Entscheidung, in Castro Marim auf 300 Hektar eine Industriesaline zu bauen, die heute die „modernste Portugals ist.“ Auf diese Weise wurden die Produktionskosten gesenkt und „man konnte den gesamten Fusionsprozess steuern.“ Heute baut die SALEXPOR Gruppe zwischen Ludo (Loulé) und Castro Marim in Salinen mit einer Gesamtfläche von 900 Hektar ab und erzeugt 85.000 Tonnen Meersalz (57 % der portugiesischen Gesamtproduktion).

Für Ilha de Mozambique empfiehlt Filipe ein ähnliches Modell. „Ideal wäre der Aufbau einer modernen Saline auf 200 bis 300 Hektar, die in ein bereits bestehendes Umfeld eingefügt wird und an der man alle Salzerzeuger beteiligt. Die Fabrik könnte die Produktion dieser Kleinerzeuger ankaufen und auf diese Weise würden sie bessere Preise erzielen als heute. Das wiederum erfordert den Bau von Lagerhäusern und von Anlagen zum Reinigen, Jodieren und Einsacken, und eventuell auch zum Verpacken des Salzes“, erwägt er.

Para a ilha de Moçambique, Filipe sugere um modelo semelhante.

“O ideal seria a instalação de uma salina moderna, de 200 a 300 hectares, enquadrada numa realidade societária na qual participassem todos os salineiros. Esta estrutura poderia comprar a produção dos pequenos produtores a preços melhores do que aqueles que conseguem hoje. Isto justificaria também a instalação de armazéns e de uma unidade de lavagem, iodização, ensacamento e eventualmente, embalagem”, considera.

A experiência de consultadoria a países emergentes não é novidade para o grupo algarvio. A unidade de Olhão, “na parte da refinação e higienização do sal, foi modelo para um dos nossos fornecedores de equipamento. Quando esse fornecedor suíço desenvolvia projectos em países como Índia, Paquistão e também nalgumas zonas de África, nós funcionávamos como unidade de demonstração” aos investidores.

Neste caso em concreto, “achamos que todas as empresas têm uma responsabilidade social, sobretudo as portuguesas, para com os países menos desenvolvidos, mas com grande potencial”.

Em relação a um possível investimento do grupo na ilha de Moçambique, Paulo Filipe diz que está tudo em aberto. “Produzir em África é totalmente diferente do que produzir na Europa. É preciso ter em conta se existe fornecimento de energia eléctrica viável, de água potável, se as vias de comunicação, estradas, portos funcionam e também as necessidades do mercado”, considera.

No entanto, este responsável reconhece há um grande défice de sal marinho em África, sobretudo nas nações interinas. A prova é que neste momento, Angola é o principal importador do sal iodado produzido no Algarve.

O autarca da ilha de Moçambique, Saide Abdurremane Gimba, 43 anos, da Frelimo, faz parte de uma nova geração de governantes.

“O que queremos é parceria e cooperação. O dinheiro não é o mais importante. Queremos sobretudo aprender”, disse-nos.

Durante a visita a esta e outras empresas do Algarve, os autarcas moçambicanos estiveram acompanhados por Eduardo José Pegado, presidente do Agrupamento de Empresas Consumidoras de Combustível de Portugal (AECCP) - que está a desenvolver, com sucesso, vários projectos de negócio com parceiros nacionais e daquele país africano.

Os autarcas moçambicanos foram ainda recebidos pelo presidente da câmara de Olhão, António Pina, e discutiram a possível geminação entre Olhão e a ilha de Moçambique.

“The ideal would be the installation of a modern salt lagoon, with 200 to 300 hectares, set in a corporate reality in which all the sea salt farmers could participate. This structure could buy the production of the small scale farmers for better prices than the ones they get today. This would justify the installation of warehouses and of a facility for the washing, iodization, bagging and eventually packaging”, he considers.

The experience of providing consultancy services for emerging countries is not a novelty for the Algarvian group.

The Olhão facility, “specialized in the refining and sanitation of the sea salt, was a model for one of our suppliers of equipment.

When that Swiss supplier was developing projects in countries like India, Pakistan and some African areas, we operated as a demonstration unit” for the investors.

In this case in particular, “we think that all companies have a Social responsibility mainly the Portuguese ones, for the less developed countries, but with a great potential”.

Regarding a possible investment of the group in the island of Mozambique, Paulo Filipe says that all options are open.

“Producing in Africa is totally different than producing in Europe.

We must take into account if there is enough electric power supply and drinkable water, if the transport routes, roads, harbours are fully operational and also what the market needs are”, he considers.

However, this administrator recognizes that there is a large deficit of sea salt in Africa, mainly in the inland nations. The fact that Angola is actually the main importer of the iodized salt produced in the Algarve proves this.

Die Rolle als Berater für Entwicklungsländer ist nicht neu für die Unternehmensgruppe aus der Algarve. Die „Anlagen für das Raffinieren und Reinigen des Salzes“ in der Fabrik in Olhão, „hatten für einige unserer Zulieferer Modellcharakter. Als unser Lieferant aus der Schweiz Projekte in Ländern wie Indien, Pakistan und auch in einigen Gebieten Afrikas entwickelte, dienten wir als Vorzeigebetrieb“ für die Investoren. In diesem konkreten Fall, “sind wir der Auffassung, dass jedes Unternehmen, vor allem aus Portugal, eine soziale Verantwortung gegenüber Ländern hat, die weniger weit entwickelt sind, jedoch hohes Potenzial haben.

Ob die Gruppe in Ilha de Mozambique investieren wird, ist laut Paulo Filipe noch offen. „Es ist vollkommen anders, in Afrika zu produzieren, als in Europa. Man muss berücksichtigen, ob die Strom- und Trinkwasserversorgung und auch Kommunikationsmittel, Straßen und Häfen funktionieren und außerdem die Marktbedürfnisse bedenken“, sagt er.

Allerdings hat der Verantwortliche erkannt, dass in Afrika – und vor allem in den afrikanischen Binnenländern - ein Mangel an Meersalz besteht. Der Beweis dafür ist, dass Angola derzeit der größte Importeur von Jodsalz aus der Algarve ist.

Der Bürgermeister von Ilha de Mozambique, Saide Adurremane Gimba (43) von der FRELIMO (Mosambikanische Befreiungsfront), ist Teil einer neuen Generation von Gouverneuren. „Wir wollen Partnerschaft und Zusammenarbeit. Geld ist nicht das Wichtigste. Wir wollen vor allem Lernen”, sagte er uns.

Während ihres Besuchs bei diesem und bei anderen Unternehmen in der Algarve wurden die mosambikanischen Bezirksvertreter von Eduardo José Pegado begleitet. Er ist Vorsitzender des Unternehmerverbands AECCP (Agrupamento de Empresas Consumidoras de Combustível de Portugal), der bereits erfolgreich diverse Geschäftsprojekte mit nationalen Partnern und mit diesem afrikanischen Land durchgeführt hat.

Die mosambikanischen Bezirksvertreter wurden auch von António Pina, dem Bürgermeister von Olhão empfangen und diskutierten mit ihm die Einrichtung einer Städtepartnerschaft zwischen Olhão und Ilha de Mozambique.

A Ilha de Moçambique A Ilha de Moçambique é uma cidade insular situada na província de Nampula, norte de Moçambique. Foi a primeira capital do país. Tem cerca de 3 quilómetros de comprimento e 300/400 m de largura. Está ligada ao continente por uma ponte construída nos anos 1960, recentemente renovada. A pesca e o sal são o principal sustento da economia local. Nos últimos anos tem atraído projectos turísticos. Conta com boas relações com Cabo Verde e com outras cidades portuguesas: Alcobaça ajudou a montar a biblioteca municipal. É um dos locais onde a cultura portuguesa foi preservada depois do colonialismo. Ainda lá está a estátua de Vasco da Gama (quase todas foram retiradas aquando da independência). Devido à sua história, a ilha foi considerada pela UNESCO, Património Mundial da Humanidade, em 1991.

Durante o seu mandato, Gimba quer também resolver outro problema grave. “Tenho como meta resolver o problema do saneamento básico ao longo dos próximos 5 anos. Um turista quando nos visita, a primeira coisa que repara é na limpeza.

O nosso desenvolvimento também depende disto”, disse-nos.

“Dia 17 de Setembro de 2018, comemoramos os 200 anos da ilha. Vamos fazer uma grande festa pública e queremos convidar todos os moçambicanos que nasceram ou viveram aqui”, revelou.

The Island of Mozambique is a town located in the province of Nampula, in the Northern Mozambique. It was the first capital of that country. It has around 3 kilometres of extension and 300/400 m length. It is linked to the mainland by a bridge built in the 1960s, and recently restored. Fishing and salt farming are the main means of making a living in the local economy. In the last years it has attracted tourism projects. It has good relations with Cape Verde and with other Portuguese towns: Alcobaça helped to create a municipal library. It is one of the places where the Portuguese culture has been preserved after colonialism. The statue of Vasco da Gama is still there (almost all the statues have been removed after the independence). Because of its history, the island has been classified as World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1991.

During his term of office, Gimba also wants to solve another serious problem. “My target in the next five years is to solve the problem of the sewage disposal. A tourist when he visits us, the first thing he notices is the cleanliness. Our development depends on that”, he says.

“On September 17th 2018, we will commemorate the 200 years of the island. We will do a great public party and we want to invite all the Mozambicans who were born and lived here”, he revealed.

Ilha de Mozambique ist eine Inselstadt in der Provinz Nampula im Norden von Mosambik. Sie war die erste Hauptstadt des Landes, ist etwa drei Kilometer lang und 300 – 400 m breit. Durch eine Brücke aus dem Jahr 1960, die kürzlich renoviert wurde, ist sie mit dem Festland verbunden. Fischerei und Salzgewinnung sind die wichtigsten Einkommensquellen der Einwohner. In den letzten Jahren entstanden zahlreiche Tourismusprojekte. Die Stadt pflegt gute Beziehungen zu den Kapverdischen Inseln und zu einigen portugiesischen Städten: Alcobaça hat geholfen, eine Stadtbibliothek aufzubauen.

Es ist ein Ort, an dem die portugiesische Kultur auch nach Ende der Kolonialisierung erhalten geblieben ist. Immer noch steht dort die Statue von Vasco da Gama (die meisten wurden nach Erlangung der Unabhängigkeit entfernt). Wegen ihrer historischen Bedeutung wurde die Insel 1991 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe erklärt.

In seiner Regierungszeit will Gimba weitere schwerwiegende Probleme lösen. „Mein Ziel ist die Beseitigung des Abwasserproblems innerhalb von fünf Jahren. Das Erste, was den Touristen bei uns auffällt, ist die Sauberkeit. Auch unsere weitere Entwicklung hängt davon ab“, sagte er uns.

O projecto já tinha sido falado em Junho de 2013 mas foi interrompido devido às eleições naquele país africano. Agora, se tudo correr bem, uma delegação do município de Nampula prevê visitar Portugal em Março de 2015. O principal interesse é a cooperação empresarial na área do turismo. De passagem pelo Algarve no início deste mês, o vereador de Nampula, António Gonçalves falou-nos um pouco sobre os desafios que a sua cidade enfrenta.

Nampula, the third most important town of Mozambique wants to germinate with Faro. On November 14th, the new Mayor, Mahamudo Amurane wrote a letter to his counterpart in Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, reaffirming his interest in taking the idea forward. Bringing the two towns together was first planed in June 2013. However due to elections in Mozambique, the plan came to a stall. Now, if all goes well, a delegation from the municipality of Nampula will shake hands with Faro, during a visit to Portugal, planned for March 2015. The main interest is business cooperation for the tourism sector. During a short visit to the Algarve early this month, António Gonçalves, a member of Nampula newly elected local government, told us a little bit about the challenges his town faces...

Nampula, die drittwichtigste Stadt Mosambiks, will Partnerstadt von Faro werden. Der neue Bürgermeister Mahamudo Amurane erneuerte sein Anliegen am 14. November in einem Schreiben an den Kollegen Rogério Bacalhau. Schon 2013 hatte man über diese Idee gesprochen, die aufgrund von Wahlen in dem afrikanischen Land zunächst nicht weiterverfolgt wurde.

Wenn alles gut läuft, soll im März 2015 eine Delegation aus Nampula nach Portugal kommen. Das Hauptinteresse besteht an der Kooperation mit Unternehmen der Tourismusbranche. Der Stadtrat von Nampula, António Gonçalves, berichtete uns anlässlich seines Besuchs in der Algarve, mit welchen Herausforderungen die Stadt konfrontiert ist.

Nampula (re)connects to Faro • (Wieder-)Annäherung von Nampula und Faro A descoberta de novos recursos (petróleo e gás) tem alavancado o desenvolvimento de Nampula, no norte de Moçambique. “É uma cidade que interessa a qualquer um”, resume António Gonçalves. “Os censos de 2007 registavam uma população de cerca de 600 000 habitantes. Na verdade, a cidade terá hoje perto de um milhão”, contabiliza.

Para além da população crescente, há fluxos “de vários povos da África central e do Norte em trânsito para a África do Sul”. O saneamento básico e a gestão de resíduos sólidos urbanos são os principais problemas para os actuais autarcas.

“Temos pouca capacidade de tratamento de resíduos e isso preocupa-nos. Controlar o problema do lixo vai ajudar-nos a diminuir o índice de doenças endémicas como a malária e a cólera, que têm sido um caso muito sério na nossa cidade”, situação que piora durante os meses de chuva.

Aliás, Dionísio Cherewa, Secretário-geral da ANAMM (Associação Nacional dos Municípios de Moçambique), já tinha abordado este problema durante o périplo empresarial que fez em Portugal (de Faro à Nazaré) em Setembro do ano passado, e que resultou numa parceria, já em vias de desenvolvimento com a Resitejo - Associação de Gestão e Tratamento dos Lixos do Médio Tejo.

“Até agora tivemos oito meses de governação. Para os quatro anos seguintes, temos muita vontade de limpar a cidade, dar-lhe um outro aspecto. Não só porque o munícipe exige, mas porque foi uma promessa eleitoral, tal como prometemos melhorar a rede de estradas e o urbanismo”.

Segundo Gonçalves, o nível de vida dos seus munícipes, está a melhorar. As aspirações básicas que a população procura responder são a melhoria da habitação (muitas vezes, um simples telhado de zinco) e a compra de um transporte individual, isto é, uma motorizada. Nampula é hoje a cidade no país com o maior número de motorizadas a circular. “É uma evolução, mas também constitui um novo problema”, admite. As estatísticas apontam para 5 óbitos diários, devido a acidentes de viação. A solução poderá passar pela instalação de escolas de trânsito municipais. “Já temos alguns parceiros privados interessados e o nosso município vai participar com a aquisição dos meios necessários”, revela.

Em termos de urbanismo, ao contrário do que acontece “na cidade da Beira ou de Maputo que estão à procura de espaços para crescer, em Nampula não temos esse problema.

Temos vindo a ser surpreendidos com as iniciativas de munícipes que, quando ocupam zonas mal estruturadas, procuram por si só, melhorar esses espaços. Somos obrigados a acompanhá-los e a urbanizar essas novas zonas de expansão”.

Gonçalves admite que há problemas por resolver no abastecimento de água corrente. A rede municipal não acompanhou o crescimento populacional. E a barragem de Nampula que abastece as torneiras da cidade “precisa de ser desassoreada. Claro que isso está para além da nossa capacidade, será um projecto do governo central”, conclui.

The discovery of new natural resources (oil and gas) has boosted the growth of Nampula, located in the North of Mozambique. “This is a town that matters to everyone”, sums up António Gonçalves. “The inhabitant’s number according to the 2007 census was of about 600 thousand. But in fact, the town should have today over a million people”, he estimates.

Besides the growing population, there are the flows “of various peoples from Central and Northern Africa moving to South Africa”. Handling and waste management as well as the insufficient water and sewage network are the biggest problems in the hands of the newly elected mayors.

“We have little waste treatment capacity and that worries us very much. Controlling the problem of rubbish will help us reduce the rate of endemic diseases like malaria and cholera, which have been a very serious case in our town”, a situation that worsens during the rainy months.

Indeed, Dionísio Cherewa, Secretary-General of the National Association of Mozambican Municipalities (ANAMM), had already mentioned the problem of the urban solid waste during a business journey to Portugal (from Faro to Nazaré) last September. His visit resulted in a on-going partnership with Resitejo, a Portuguese association dealing with the waste management and treatment.

“So far, we had eight months of governance. For the next four years, we very much want to clean the town, and give it a new and better look. Not only because the citizens demand it that way, but also because it was an electoral promise, just as we promised to improve the road networks and the urban planning”.

According to Gonçalves, the life standard of his citizens is improving. Their most basic aspirations are better housing (that means a roof) and buying a private transport (a motorbike). Indeed. Nampula has the largest number of motorbikes circulating in the country.

“This is an evolution, but it is simultaneously a new problem”, he says. The statistics point to five deaths per day due to road accidents. The solution for that could be the creation of municipal traffic schools. “We already have some interested private partners and our municipality will participate in the purchase of the means required”, he said.

In terms of urban planning, unlike what happens “in the town of Beira and capital Maputo, that are looking where to grow, in Nampula we do not face that problem. We have been surprised by our citizens, who, whenever they move to poorly structured areas, they take action and do improvements themselves. We must follow them quick and urbanize all those new expansion areas”.

Gonçalves admits that there are still problems to be solved in the water supply. The municipal water network did not follow the increase in population. Worse, the Nampula dam, which supplies the town’s taps, “needs to have a lot of sand and sediments removed. Of course, this is beyond our capacity. It will be a project of the Central Government”, he concludes.

Dionísio Cherewa, Generalsekretär des Verbands ANAMM (Associação Nacional dos Municípios de Moçambique) hatte das Problem der Abfallbeseitigung im September ohnehin bereits im Rahmen seines Besuchs bei verschiedenen portugiesischen Unternehmen (zwischen Faro und Nazaré) angesprochen und das Ergebnis ist eine Partnerschaft mit der Firma Resitejo. „Bisher sind acht Monate Regierungszeit vergangenen. Für die kommenden vier Jahre haben wir uns vorgenommen, die Stadt sauber zu machen und ihr ein anderes Erscheinungsbild zu geben.

Nicht nur, weil der Bürgermeister es so will, sondern auch weil es, ebenso wie die Verbesserung des Straßennetzes und der städtischen Infrastruktur, ein Wahlversprechen ist.“ Laut Gonçalves steigt der António Gonçalves Lebensstandard der Einwohner.

Hauptanliegen der Bevölkerung sind die Verbesserung der eigenen Unterkunft und der Kauf eines individuellen Transportmittels. In Nampula ist die Stadt des Landes, mit den meisten Mofas. „Das ist ein Fortschritt, der jedoch auch ein neues Problem zur Folge hat“, sagt er. Die Statistik weist fünf Unfalltote pro Tag aus.

Die Einrichtung von städtischen Fahrschulen könnte das Problem lösen. „Wir haben bereits einige interessierte private Partner gefunden und die Stadt wird sich an der Beschaffung der notwendigen Mittel beteiligen“, berichtet er.

In Bezug auf die Stadtplanung haben wir, „nicht das Problem von Beira und Maputo, die Platz brauchen, um zu wachsen. Die Bürger haben uns immer wieder mit ihrer Eigeninitiative überrascht. Wenn sie schlecht erschlossene Gebiete besetzen, kümmern sie sich selbst um den Aufbau der Infrastruktur. Wir müssen sie jedoch bei der Besiedlung dieser neuen Expansionsgebiete unterstützen“, sagt er.

Gonçalves räumt ein, dass in Bezug auf die Trinkwasserversorgung noch Probleme zu lösen sind. Das städtische Leitungsnetz kann mit dem Bevölkerungswachstum nicht Schritt halten. Und der Stausee, der Nampula versorgt, „muss ausgebaggert werden. Das übersteigt natürlich unsere Kapazitäten und müsste von der Zentralregierung übernommen werden“, folgert er.

Um empreendedor português em Nampula A Portuguese entrepreneur in Nampula • Ein portugiesischer Unternehmer in Nampula Hugo Torres, 40 anos, chegou a Nampula a 14 de Agosto.

Formou-se em Gestão de Empresas na Universidade do Algarve. Apesar de ter nascido em Leiria, viveu 18 anos em Faro e considera-se “tão algarvio quanto beirão”. A mudança para Moçambique foi um desafio do irmão Ivo Torres que já trabalhava no país há dois anos, na construção civil.

Ivo desafiou-o a abrir um bar, num novo centro comercial, no centro de Nampula. Teve 15 dias para pensar. Resolveu aceitar. E agora, três meses depois, diz-se bastante feliz com a decisão.

“Moçambique é uma terra com muitas oportunidades para quem quiser vir ajudar a desenvolver este país. Não faltam recursos naturais, agrícolas, marítimos, e até mesmo humanos para que possa tornar-se numa das grandes potências de África”, opina.

“Claro que tive de me preparar previamente para o que encontrei aqui. Há um grande choque cultural e uma discrepância social enorme relativamente à realidade portuguesa. A minha sensação de conforto mudou radicalmente. Coisas que considerava bens essenciais, se calhar, até são supérfluos. Por exemplo, é normal haver ruptura de combustíveis e de alguns produtos, faltar a água ou a luz”. Os maiores receios que aponta são “alguma insegurança que ainda se vive nas ruas, especialmente à noite”, o “trânsito caótico” e um sistema de saúde ainda muito longe de se equiparar aos standards europeus.

Contudo, Hugo Torres sublinha que a autarquia tem feito um grande esforço na reparação de estradas e em resolver o problema do lixo na cidade.

“Não podemos esquecer que este país foi fustigado primeiro pela guerra colonial, depois pela guerra civil.

As infra-estruturas estão agora a ser reconstruídas. Há algumas dificuldades a nível político, com duas facções politicas muito fortes e muito divergentes. Mas vejo que as pessoas, em geral, têm muita vontade de melhorar a sua realidade”, acrescenta. Hugo Torres e o irmão investiram 3 milhões de meticais (cerca de 50 mil euros) no «DDpub» inaugurado a 24 de Setembro. Emprega directamente 12 moçambicanos. “Praticamente não tivemos dificuldades com burocracia. Trabalhamos com uma empresa de contabilidade moçambicana que fez todos os licenciamentos. É curioso, mas aqui o sistema de pagamento de telemóveis e de electricidade é muito mais funcional que o de Portugal”, compara. Torres conta-nos ainda que em apenas três meses, a sua casa de diversão nocturna já é a mais falada do norte de Moçambique. Há quem faça 400 quilómetros só para o visitar. “Parte do nosso sucesso deve-se ao facto de ser uma ideia muito inovadora. Não havia nenhum espaço nocturno para as pessoas fazerem a ponte entre a ida ao restaurante e a ida à discoteca, especialmente ao fim-de-semana”, na afamada noite de Nampula. Largo da Praia, Praia do Carvoeiro, 8400 Lagoa, 351 282 084 81 Num dia soalheiro, mas já quase de inverno, daqueles em que o Algarve é pródigo, visitámos a Casa Ibérica na praia do Carvoeiro. Fomos na companhia de uma velha amiga que gosta destas andanças. Até há pouco tempo atrás chamava-se «Tapas bar». Foi uma espécie de pioneiro das tapas nesta ex-vila piscatória, que é hoje um dos locais mais turísticos do barlavento. À primeira vista, é um restaurante descontraído, com boa cozinha feita na hora a cargo de um chef responsável. Serve bem e a boa apresentação dos pratos é uma das marcas da casa. O menu é diverso: das tapas de presunto pata negra e queijo manchego, das lulinhas às saladas, passando pelas pastas e pizzas. Há ainda outros pratos mais elaborados e requintados (também no preço, obviamente) para clientes mais exigentes. Nota-se que há uma grande aposta na garrafeira de vinhos portugueses, sobretudo rótulos modernos, com predominância da região do Douro. Há também quem recomende a sangria. Um pormenor curioso: o tampo de muitas das mesas é forrado a caixas de vinho. O espaço em si é também ele variado, mas destacase a pequena esplanada com vista pitoresca, onde o sol de Outono inflige a sua energia. Em frente à porta de entrada fica um bar de apoio. Ao fundo fica a cozinha; no primeiro andar, espalham-se algumas mesas no interior, e, claro um terraço cheio de sombrinhas a ver o mar. Fotografias de actores do tempo áureo de Hollywood decoram as paredes.

O serviço é atencioso e sempre disponível. Na ocasião, fizemos uma refeição leve com uma salada mista de atum e lulinhas à algarvia, que muito nos satisfez. Ao entardecer, se estiver lá fora e o tempo arrefecer, peça para lhe trazerem os cobertores…

It was a sunny fall day. Almost winter, but not quite yet. One of those lighthearted days the Algarve is so blessed with. We choose to eat at Casa Ibérica looking over the Carvoeiro beach. We went along with an old friend who enjoys our taste for adventures.

Not so long ago, this place was known as «Tapas Bar». It was a pioneer, one of the very first to offer Spanish-style tapas in this former fisherman village that has become one of the most touristic places in the western Algarve. At first sight, it is a casual, relaxed atmosphere restaurant, with a great kitchen driven by a keen chef, serving a la cart food. The portions are generous and with an exquisite dish presentation. The menu has plenty to choose from. Cured ham “pata negra” and manchego cheese tapas, fried squid tapas, pizzas and pastas, you’ll no doubt find something to fulfill your appetite. One can even order more sophisticated dishes (also in price, of course). You can see clearly that there is a strong commitment to wine lovers, who will find a wide range of Portuguese wines, mostly modern fresh brands with a particular remark on the Douro region labels. We were also recommended to try the house-made sangria, if we wished. A note: many tables have old wine boxes as covers. The house itself has something of everything, but the little upfront terrace overlooking Carvoeiro’s main square is a must. Especially when you can get the warm fall sun to energize you. Opposite the front door there is a small waiting bar and the kitchen at the end. Upstairs, you’ll find a few more tables and the lovely sun-shaded terrace facing the sea.

Walls are decorated with portraits of Hollywood’s golden age actors.

Ah, before we forget: the service is helpful and professional. On the occasion, we were pleased to enjoy a nice light meal and a tuna mixed salad. If you start feeling somehow chilly just ask for a cosy blanket…

An einem sonnigen Tag fast schon im Winter - einem jener Tage, die es so verschwenderisch oft in der Algarve gibt - besuchten wir die „Casa Ibérica“ am Strand von Carvoeiro. Eine alte Freundin, die derartige Abenteuer schätzt, begleitete uns. Bis vor Kurzem nannte sie sich „Tapas Bar“. Es war eine Art Pionierbetrieb in Sachen „Tapas” in dem ehemaligen Fischerstädtchen, das heute eines der Touristenzentren in der Westalgarve ist. Auf den ersten Blick ist es ein entspanntes Restaurant mit einer guten Küche, wo alles unter Leitung eines verantwortlichen Chefkochs frisch zubereitet wird.

Man wird gut bedient und die nette Dekoration der Teller ist eines der Markenzeichen des Hauses. Die Speisekarte ist vielfältig: von Tapas mit Schinken vom Iberischen Schwein und Manchego Käse, Tintenfischchen und Salaten, bis zu Pasta und Pizza.

Es gibt auch raffiniertere, erlesenere Gerichte (selbstverständlich auch hinsichtlich des Preises) für anspruchsvollere Gäste. Auffallend ist die große Auswahl an portugiesischen Weinen, vor allem moderne Marken, die vorwiegend aus der Region Douro kommen. Auch die Sangria ist empfehlenswert. Ein interessantes Detail: Viele der Tischplatten sind auf Weinkisten montiert. Auch der Raum ist vielfältig, es empfiehlt sich jedoch die kleine Terrasse mit dem malerischen Ausblick, wo die Oktobersonne ihre Energie entfaltet.

Vor der Tür gibt es eine Bar. Ganz hinten befindet sich die Küche; in der ersten Etage gibt es einen Innenraum mit einigen Tischen und natürlich die Terrasse mit vielen Sonnenschirmen und Meerblick. Fotos von Schauspielern aus den goldenen Jahren Hollywoods dekorieren die Wände. Der Service ist aufmerksam und jederzeit verfügbar. Wir nahmen eine leichte Mahlzeit ein, bestehend aus einem gemischten Thunfisch-Tintenfischsalat nach Art der Algarve, die uns sehr zufriedenstellte.
