THE MAGIC OF SUMMER

The sun is shining, the warmer weather is here and it’s time to play! There’s nothing quite like the start of summer. School is out, families spend time together, adventure is pursued, vacations are enjoyed, and new friends are made. It’s a magical time of year and I love it! Summer always seems to bring me fond memories filled with the magic of family. From the days of camping as a kid at Lake Berryessa over the 4th of July holiday to more recent summers where I take my own family on adventures locally and abroad. I also reminisce about the early days of my career as a camp counselor and lifeguard where I had the privilege of providing fun and life skills through swimming for the kids in my programs. Even more magical for me is watching my own daughters provide the same fun and skills to the next generation as they take on the task of a camp counselor and a lifeguard.

I believe in magic, and it is everywhere, especially during the summer. As you flip through our summer activity guide, you’ll find aquatics and summer camp information, special events, classes and more. We have programs for kids as young as a few months old to adults as spry as 99 years old. I know we shared the Town’s aquatic and summer camps in the previous activity guide, but it’s never too late to sign up! There are so many options to pick from! Grab your wand and create some summertime magic! Abracadabra! Henry

How do I register?

Online: Register online by setting up and logging into your account at www.danville.ca.gov/recguide. We encourage you to set up your account prior to the registration date. This will ensure that you receive the lessons you want quickly. For assistance, please call (925) 314-3400.

How do I select my child’s class level?

Please refer to the Swimming Levels table (at left) with qualifying age and culminating skills needed in the order listed. To move to subsequent levels, swimmers must consistently perform all culminating skills. Your child should enroll in the lowest level lesson that they cannot perform a culminating skill repeatedly. Sometimes, swimmers may need to retake lessons or repeat levels after prolonged periods without practice. Please note that if the wrong swim level is chosen, we will be able to provide a refund with Town credit only. Participant may be removed from a lesson and alternative accommodations cannot be guaranteed.

What if my participant cannot pass a swim test?

If your participant cannot pass a swim test, your participant will be asked to withdraw from the course. If you sign your participant up for a level that they do not meet the prerequisite for and cannot pass the swim test, you will only be refunded with Town credit.

What happens if my child passes the class, but I registered the child for the same level next session?

If there is space available, your child will be transferred to the correct level. Please contact the Danville Community Center prior to 1:00 PM on Friday to accommodate potential transfers.

Is it possible to make up a class that my child missed due to illness or vacation?

Unfortunately, there will be no make-up classes due to illness or vacation.

I am an adult. Can I take lessons?

Yes! This summer we have a very limited amount of private lessons for ages 8 and up. Please see table (at left) for prerequisites.

A THREE-PRONGED APPROACH TO AGING IN PLACE

Age 55Y & Up | Town Staff

Positive aging is about making better choices in the near term to improve the long-term quality of life. Longevity isn't the sole goal. Living well matters most. A person's mindset impacts their ability to recover from disease and injury, their risk of depression, and even their longevity. Affirmative attitudes can also reduce your risk of developing dementia, even with confirmed markers. Attitude can beat biology! Beyond attitude, three overlapping dimensions play incredibly powerful roles in shaping the quality and quantity of seniors' lives. Join us to learn what they are!

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Town of Danville encourages those with disabilities to participate in our programs. If you have any special needs that require specific accommodations so you can fully enjoy our classes and programs, call (925) 314-3400.

COURSE CANCELLATION

When registration winters below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a class or program. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund-minus transaction fee. Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks.

PHOTO/VIDEO LIABILITY DISCLOSURE

Photographs and video may be taken of participants during a class or program, and these photographs and video may be used for Town of Danville publicity purposes.

RAINOUTS AND CLASS MAKE-UPS

Whenever possible, make-ups will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be canceled. See instructor at next scheduled meeting for make-up date.

No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student.

WAITLISTS

Waitlists will be created once a class has reached maximum enrollment. If space becomes available, you will be contacted.

WITHDRAWALS (CREDITS/REFUNDS)

Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than seven business days prior to the first day of class. There will be a $5 withdrawal fee assessed for each activity.

A $20 processing fee will be charged for processing refunds made by check. We do not provide cash refunds.

Requests made less than seven business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis.

Withdrawals for sports leagues may be approved if a team can be replaced before the first game.

RESIDENCY STATUS CLARIFICATION

Those living outside the Danville Town limits include residents of the communities of Alamo and Diablo, Alamo Creek, Bettencourt Ranch, Blackhawk, Bryan Ranch, Monterosso, Shadow Creek and Whitegate housing developments.

The program and facility fees cover a large portion of the actual costs, though Town of Danville residents also partially support the classes, events and facilities through their property tax assessments. Because of this, those program participants and individuals reserving Town facilities who live outside of Danville pay an additional non-resident charge. If you have any questions about this information, call (925) 314-3400.

Special Notice to Alamo Residents living in the Alamo County Service Area: all Alamo residents are eligible to register for Town-sponsored programs scheduled at Hap Magee Ranch Park during the resident registration period. Resident fees will apply for these classes and activities. Call (925) 314-3400 for more information.
