Discover the Arts in Danville Once again this fall, Danville comes alive with art in all its myriad forms and with a little something for everyone. Even the youngest can enjoy the Village Theatre by attending the Town’s popular monthly Fall Preschool Performance Series beginning in September, followed by the Danville Children’s Musical Theater/Town co-sponsored production of Annie in November, and two weekends of Santa’s Magic Bag by the Town’s Theatre Performance Workshop in December. Don’t let your youngsters miss the annual Elf Workshop on December 10, where they can craft hand-made holiday gifts for their family members. The Town will also host a variety of co-sponsored events and productions at the Village Theatre, including the Eugene O’Neill Festival in September, the 8th annual Danville International Children’s Film Festival in October, and in November, you can attend Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, the first play in Role Players Ensemble Theatre’s threeproduction season. The 12th annual Alamo Danville Artists’ Society/Town cosponsored Art in the Park event will once again grace the Town Green the first weekend in October. And in the Village Theatre Art Gallery, the first annual juried exhibition will run from mid-July through the end of August. Entitled The Elegant Line, the exhibit includes local, regional and national artists showcasing the use of line in a variety of techniques, media and styles. On September 10, the juried invitational show Offerings: Works of Art and Text will open with a reception that includes readings, music and a dance performance. Running from November 10 through mid-December, the year closes out with Surfaces: Selections from the California Fiber Artists Group highlighting contemporary and innovative fiber art practices. This is just a short list of cultural arts activities to whet your appetite. For more activities, events, and performances, check out the Discover Danville Arts pull-out insert included in this Activity Guide and enjoy!

Registration is limited to online and mail in only. Online registration is recommended. The Town of Danville strongly believes in the benefits of participation in organized sports. Participation in athletics plays a valuable role in the development of children. We believe that by offering a program that focuses not on winning, but on sportsmanship, friendship, learning, and—most of all—fun, children will experience the positive side of organized sports and carry that into their everyday recreational experiences. Aspects of teamwork, dedication, discipline, physical fitness, self-esteem, and fair play all contribute to the overall growth and maturation of young people. Note on your registration form if you need a jersey and desired size (additional $25). The same jerseys will be used as last year’s season. Coaches will distribute jerseys at practice. Players should wear athletic shorts and comfortable athletic shoes (no black soles). Questions? Contact Program Coordinator Ian Murdock at imurdock@danville.ca.gov or (925) 314-3480.
Volunteer Coaches The Town of Danville is seeking positive, committed, friendly, energetic and easy to work with volunteers to coach Youth Basketball teams for grades 1-12. Coaches must obtain an initial or renewed NYSCA Certification by attending a training clinic offered by the Town of Danville or online at www.nays.org prior to the first day of practice. All volunteer coaches will be scheduled for fingerprinting by the Danville Police Department. To volunteer, or for more information, contact Program Coordinator Ian Murdock, imurdock@danville.ca.gov, (925) 314-3480.
