11th Annual Senior Lend-A-Hand Day Saturday, April 26, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The Town of Danville, along with an estimated 200 volunteers from the community, are joining forces to provide senior citizens with no-cost yard cleanup. Individuals who would like to have help with their yard work should contact the Senior Center at 314-3490 or email seniors@danville.ca.gov to request an application. Individuals who want to volunteer for a work crew should sign up on our volunteer website: www.danville.ca.gov/Volunteer_Opportunities.

Senior Sneakers Trips ACTIVITY LEVELS You must be able to walk six steep steps to board the bus. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations prior to signing up for a trip so staff can try to accommodate your needs ahead of time. All trips depart from the Danville Park and Ride. Choose your level carefully: LEVEL 1: Easy, sitting/little walking. Must be able to stand 10 minutes without assistance or bring your walker or wheelchair. LEVEL 2: Small amount of walking LEVEL 3: Moderate to heavy walking LEVEL 4: Heavy amount of walking/standing LEVEL 5: Strenuous walking/hiking

March/April Trips Underground Tour and Museum, Sacramento Tuesday, March 4, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Walk in the footsteps of John Sutter Jr., Leland Stanford and Sam Brannan. Travel through a living Gold Rush-era time capsule and hear the staggering successes and heartbreaking struggles of Sacramento’s early pioneers. This fun and educational experience will uncover evidence of the city’s successful attempts to raise its streets, including historic buildings and basements, exposed retaining walls, dipping alleyways, and underground hollow sidewalks. This ½ mile onehour guided walking tour has uneven surfaces and low ceilings. A ½ hour self-guided tour of the Sacramento History Museum and lunch at Ten 22 is included in the price. Bouquets of Art Exhibit, de Young Museum Tuesday, March 18, 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. This year’s presentation of the spectacular design showcase Bouquets of Art marks 30 years of this enchanting annual springtime tradition, when gifted floral designers bring their imaginative interpretations to works in the de Young’s permanent collection.

Mamma Mia, Orpheum Theatre Wednesday, April 2, 11:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. The award winning musical is back! A mother and her daughter and three possible dads. A walk down the aisle you’ll never forget. Unforgettable music! You know you want to see it again! Based on songs of ABBA, composed by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, it’s an example of a jukebox musical. Senior Sneakers Trips / Buzz Sessions Governor’s Mansion/Capitol Tour, Sacramento Wednesday, April 16, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Two private families and thirteen Governors resided in this historical mansion between 1877 and 1967. This mansion is unusual because it is not a replica or a restoration. It stands much the same as it did when vacated by the Reagans in 1967. The mansion features marble fireplaces from Italy, gold framed mirrors from France and exquisitely handcrafted hinges and doorknobs all of which are reminders of the Victorian era. After lunch, we will take a docent-led tour of the Capitol. Weather permitting we will be able to visit the Capitol gardens. We will have lunch at Lucca’s (included in price). Ruth Bancroft Garden Tour Wednesday, April 30, 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Visit the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek for a tour of this drought tolerant garden. Planted by Ruth Bancroft in 1972, the garden is home to an impressive collection of aloes, agaves, yuccas, and echeverias. After the tour, there will be a lecture on creating container gardens with succulent plants with plenty of time for questions during and after the demonstration. Lunch (included in trip price) will be catered and served under pop-up tents on the grounds of the Garden. Fees: $53(R) $63(NR). Activity Level: 3

This course is designed for drivers 50 and older and covers normal physical changes and provides techniques to compensate for these changes. The course fosters defensive driving practices to stay alive on today’s fast-moving highways and includes an auto insurance discount certificate. Easyto-learn hiking pole techniques improve performance, endurance and confidence for people with mobility issues. Hiking Club The Danville Area Senior Hikes (DASH) is open to adults ages 55 and up. Most hikes are not strenuous, but gradients are involved due to the local terrain. Distances are usually 4-5 miles, and the pace is moderate. Trailheads are reached via carpools; passengers are asked to make a donation of 10 cents/mile to the driver. Tax-Aide does not specify an income limit, but the service targets low and moderate income taxpayers of any age with special attention given to seniors 60 plus. Senior Issues Sub-committee Meetings in 2014 Wednesday, April 23, July 23, Oct. 22 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Mail or drop off your registration form to the Danville Senior Center or the Danville Community Center. All resident registrations received by February 11 at 5:00p.m. will be processed beginning Wednesday, February 12 with no priority given. Non-resident registration will begin on Friday, February 14. Phone and walk-in registration will begin on Monday, February 17. To register by phone, please contact the Danville Senior Center (925)3143490. Please note times listed for each Senior Sneaker trip are approximate. Staff will mail out a detailed checklist approximately one week before the trip with exact meeting time. Class Cancellation/Withdrawals Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than 5 business days prior to the first day of class. Requests made less than 5 business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis. A $20 processing fee will be charged for check refunds; a $5 processing fee for credit card refunds. Make-up Classes Whenever possible, make-up classes will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student. Senior Sneaker Trip Refund Policy: When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a trip. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for refunds to be processed. Withdrawal and refund requests must be submitted five working days prior to the trip. Refunds will not be given for trips designated (no refund). Senior Sneaker Trip Registration Priority: Due to the high demand of the Senior Sneaker program, seniors will be limited to registering for two trips per month, or a total of four per issue of the Silver Streak newsletter. When choosing your trips, please number them in order of priority. In Case of Emergency: Please call Senior Services to verify that your emergency contact information is current. Since prompt medical care is crucial in an emergency, the Town would like to ensure we have the most current information for each participant.
