Senior Sneakers Trips ACTIVITY LEVELS Each trip has an Activity Level. Plus, you must be able to walk six steep steps to board the bus. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations prior to signing up for a trip so staff can try to accommodate your needs ahead of time. Choose your level carefully: LEVEL 1: Easy, sitting/little walking. Must be able to stand 10 minutes without assistance or bring your walker or wheelchair. LEVEL 2: Small amount of walking LEVEL 3: Moderate to heavy walking LEVEL 4: Heavy amount of walking/standing LEVEL 5: Strenuous walking/hiking If you aren’t sure where you fit, call us at (925) 314-3490.
Trips for July & August Red Hawk Casino Tuesday, July 10, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Enjoy a day at Red Hawk Casino, located 20 minutes east of Sacramento. You will receive a $15 free slot play or $20 match play. Please bring money for lunch on your own. Cost: $25 resident; $30 non-resident. Price includes transportation. Activity Level: 1-2
River Rafting on the American River Thursday, July 19, 8:15 AM-9:00 PM Before embarking on the river, the group will enjoy a delicious barbeque lunch. The white water rafting adventure travels down the South Fork of the American River. The rafting trip is 12 miles long and begins at Camp Lotus. The first 7 miles on the river are a Level 1-whitewater warm-up. The last 5 mile long stretch is a challenging Level 3 filled with white water rapids. We will stop for dinner on the way home. Cost: $150 resident, $180 non-resident (nonrefundable). Price includes transportation, organized lunch and admission. Please bring money for dinner.

Pt. Reyes Station/ Oyster Farm & Cheese Tasting Wednesday, July 25, 8:15 AM-5:30 PM Learn about oysters, their history, how to perfectly pair them with wine or beer and taste Hog Island Farm specialties in a 45-minute picnic table demonstration. After, there will be time to shop for your own oysters. Next we head to Point Reyes Farmstead/The Fork where we learn what a farmstead is and the importance of one. We will enjoy a cheese tasting before we head home. Cost: $80 resident, $96 non-resident. Price includes transportation, lunch, tours and cheese tasting. Activity Level: 4-5
War Horse, Curran Theatre Sunday, August 5, 5:30 PM-11:45 PM The National Theatre of Great Britain production of War Horse is powerful and imaginative. Marijuana: Myth or Medicine
Tuesday, August 14, 1:30 PM-3:00 PM Presenter: Xeno Rasmussen, Assistant Professor of Human Development, CSUEB Congress placed marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act in 1972, deeming the plant to have no accepted medical use. Since then, 16 of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have legalized the medical use of marijuana. Regardless of where you stand, the misinformation regarding the drug’s potential for treating such illness as AIDS, Glaucoma, Alzheimer’s and Multiple Sclerosis spread confusion. Professor Rasmusson will put these confusions into perspective and try to separate myth from medicine when it comes to marijuana. Cost: $5 resident; $6 non-resident.

Health & Wellness Health & Wellness Programs Hiking Club The Danville Area Senior Hikes (DASH) is open to adults ages 55 and up. Most hikes are not strenuous, but gradients are involved due to the local terrain. Distances are usually 4-5 miles, and the pace is moderate. Trailheads are reached via carpools; passengers are asked to make a donation of 10 cents/ mile to the driver. Hiking dates: 7/11, 7/25, 8/8 and 8/22. Meets at 8:45 AM and returns about 1:00 PM. Free Blood Pressure Screenings Drop in for a free blood-pressure screening provided by John Muir Senior Services. No appointment necessary 1st and 3rd Mondays 10:00am—11:15am Mail or drop off your registration form to the Danville Senior Center or the Community Center. All resident registrations received by June 12 at 5:00p.m. will be processed beginning Wednesday, June 13 with no priority given. Non-resident registration will begin on Thursday, June 14. Phone and walk-in registration will begin on Friday, June 15. To register by phone , please contact the Danville Senior Center (925)314-3490. Senior Sneaker trips will meet at the Danville Park & Ride lot. Please note the times listed for each Senior Sneaker trip are approximate. Staff will mail out a detailed checklist approximately one week before the trip with the exact meeting time. Senior Sneaker Trip Refund Policy: When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a trip. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for refunds to be processed. Withdrawal and refund requests must be submitted five working days prior to the trip. You may elect to receive a full credit on your account or a refund with a $20 cancellation fee. Refunds will not be given for trips designated . Senior Sneaker Trip Registration Priority: Due to the high demand of the Senior Sneaker program, seniors will be limited to registering for two trips per month, or a total of four per issue of the Silver Streak newsletter. When choosing your trips, please number them in order of priority. Senior Bocce Registration: Due to the popularity of the Senior Bocce program, registration is limited to one class per newsletter. Rank your choice by listing 1 and 2. In Case of Emergency: Please call Senior Services to verify that your emergency contact information is current. Since prompt medical care is crucial in an emergency, the Town would like to ensure we have the most current information for each participant.
