Live Well, Age Smart is Coming! Senior Health Fitness Day has been moved from the spring to this fall and is now referred to as Live Well, Age Smart! The Town of Danville is looking forward to providing seniors updated information regarding nutrition, exercise and preventative care on Saturday, October 11. Health, wellness and preventative care vendors interested in participating in this event, please contact Senior Services at seniors@danville.ca.gov.

Senior Sneakers Trips ACTIVITY LEVELS You must be able to walk six steep steps to board the bus. Please let us know if you have any physical limitations prior to signing up for a trip so staff can try to accommodate your needs ahead of time. All trips depart from Diablo Vista Park. Choose your level carefully: LEVEL 1: Easy, sitting/little walking. Must be able to stand 10 minutes without assistance or bring your walker or wheelchair. LEVEL 2: Small amount of walking LEVEL 3: Moderate to heavy walking LEVEL 4: Heavy amount of walking/standing LEVEL 5: Strenuous walking/hiking

Roaring Camp Railroad Trip

Tuesday, September 16, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Visit the Monterey Zoo in Salinas for a live animal presentation and guided tour. This facility is a retirement home for professionally trained film, television, and live production animals. You’ll have an up-close look at lions, tigers, elephants, and more. Afterwards enjoy a hosted lunch at Phil’s Fish Marketing in Moss Landing. Don’t forget to bring a small cooler if you would like to shop for fresh seafood during our visit. Fees: $85(R) $102(N). Tuesday, September 30, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Visit Roaring Camp Railroad in Felton and enjoy a 1.5 hour roundtrip Steam Engine Redwood Forest Train excursion followed by a good old fashion chuck wagon barbeque and time to explore the park and visit the gift shops. Levi’s Stadium & Gordon Biersch Brewery Tour Wednesday, September 24, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Private guided tour of the San Francisco 49ers new home in Santa Clara. The Levi’s Stadium Tour includes the premium club spaces, private suites, press level, NRG Solar Terrace, the field and locker rooms. Admission includes a self-guided visit to the 49ers Museum and time to shop at the 49ers team store. Afterwards we’ll visit the Gordon Biersch Brewery and Restaurant in downtown San Jose for a hosted lunch and guided brewery tour. Fees: $89(R) $107(N). Activity Level: 4

Cover’s Apple Ranch & Indigeny Reserve Tuesday, October 7, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Take a ride on a miniature train at Cover’s Apple Ranch. Then head to the main ranch house for a hosted lunch and time to shop for fresh baked apple goods and apple inspired gift items. In the afternoon we’ll tour and taste at Indigeny Reserve in Sonora. The tour will include the ciderworks and distillery and see the state-of-art apple press and bottling equipment. Learn about organic apple farming and hard-cider brewing. Enjoy time in the gift shop and art gallery. Fees: $89(R) $107(N). Activity Level: 3


Senior Sneakers Trips / Buzz Sessions Pippin, Golden Gate Theatre Wednesday, October 15, 10:45 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Ladies and gentlemen step right up! Pippin is back on Broadway for the first time since it thrilled audiences 40 years ago. We have secured Orchestra seating at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco for this 2013 Tony award winning Best Musical Revival production! Before the show, we’ll enjoy a hosted lunch at Pompei’s Grotto at Fisherman’s Wharf. Fees: $147(R) $176(N). Activity Level: 2

Golden Gate Fields Friday, October 24, 10:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m. We’ll spend the day in the luxury of Golden Gate Field’s Turf Club watching live thoroughbred horse racing featuring the best jockey in the nation. Our visit will include outstanding view seats, racing program, and a sumptuous buffet meal. A few lucky participants will have the opportunity to take a picture with the winning horse and jockey on the track. Fees: $82(R) $98(N). Activity Level: 2

Christmas at Hearst Castle December 4, 8:30 a.m.-December 6, 4:30 p.m. Christmas at the Castle includes a guided tour of Hearst Castle decked out for the holidays. A two-night stay at the Cambria Pines Lodge with gorgeous garden holiday light displays and a European Christmas Market, guided Point San Luis Lighthouse tour, hosted luncheon and time to shop at Apple Farm, San Luis Obispo, time in downtown Paso Robles, a welcome banquet dinner and a hot cooked breakfast each morning at the lodge. Senior Issues Sub-committee Meeting in 2014 Wednesday, October 22 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Mail or drop off your registration form to the Danville Senior Center or the Danville Community Center. All resident registrations received by June 10 at 5:00p.m. will be processed beginning Wednesday, June 11 with no priority given. Non-resident registration will begin on Friday, June 13. Phone and walk-in registration will begin on Monday, June 16. To register by phone, please contact the Danville Senior Center (925)314-3490. Please note times listed for each Senior Sneaker trip are approximate. Staff will mail out a detailed checklist approximately one week before the trip with exact meeting time. Class Cancellation/Withdrawals Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than 5 business days prior to the first day of class. Requests made less than 5 business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis. A $20 processing fee will be charged for check refunds; a $5 processing fee for credit card refunds. Make-up Classes Whenever possible, make-up classes will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student.

Senior Sneaker Trip Refund Policy: When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a trip. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for refunds to be processed. Withdrawal and refund requests must be submitted five working days prior to the trip. Refunds will not be given for trips designated (no refund). Senior Sneaker Trip Registration Priority: Due to the high demand of the Senior Sneaker program, seniors will be limited to registering for two trips per month, or a total of four per issue of the Silver Streak newsletter. Hiking Club The Danville Area Senior Hikes (DASH) is open to adults ages 55 and up. Most hikes are not strenuous, but gradients are involved due to the local terrain. Distances are usually 4-5 miles, and the pace is moderate. Hikes are scheduled for the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.
