DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

Table of Contents Spring 2022

Engage at Any Age… Have you ever wondered if your voice or your input even matters? I know I have had a bout or two with those very thoughts. The truth is that yes, your voice and your input matter quite a bit, especially in a community such as Danville. I have been working in this Town for a little over ten years now, and I would have to say the residents have proven time and time again to be a community that is highly engaged. Whether it be participating in a class, attending a Town-wide special event, or sharing their thoughts at a Town Council meeting, people in Danville care about what happens in their Town. Our cover highlights some engaged community members representing the Danville Youth Council (DYC). The DYC is a group of students whose primary role is to be a voice for teens in Danville. The fact that so many youth in the community are willing to engage and lead is a testament to those they are surrounded by, you. The DYC leads service projects and puts on special events, but mostly they show us all that you can engage at any age. This type of engagement impacts a community in the most positive of ways. I would like to invite all of you to either start to engage or continue to engage in our community. Do this first by experiencing what it has to offer and second to provide us feedback once you have done so, whether good, bad, or indifferent. We are listening, striving daily to have our programs and services be the best they can be. Your voice and input can go a long way in helping us do that. I would like to encourage you to try something new, get outside and engage this amazing community through our programs. Look through our guide as there is something for someone at just about every age to engage with and hopefully enjoy.

AQUATICS 2022 Preschool Aquatics Program This program consists of two levels and is designed for children ages 3-5. Children registered for Preschool Aquatics must be ready to learn without parent participation. The group lesson format includes eight 25-minute classes which are held Monday-Thursday for two weeks. When necessary, students may be asked to move to an earlier or later class time. The Town of Danville is pleased to offer a water safety dock. Although we emphasize hanging on to the wall, this dock allows children to stand in the pool with a secure railing around them.

Due to the pandemic, children have missed out on many academic and social opportunities. Our group of teachers with more than 50 years of combined experience in the Tri-Valley area will help bring your little one back up to speed. We will focus on the social and emotional well-being of each child and make connections at circle time with music and stories. We will have art and hands-on activities that expose children to math concepts and language skills. All of this will be done in a nurturing environment where each child is seen, heard and valued. Auggie's A-Corner Hello, and welcome to

AUGGIE’s A-Corner! This page is all about Auggie the Acorn, Danville’s official mascot. Visit this page every issue to see what Auggie is up to this season. ACTIVITES & GAMES Auggie loves to learn new things and play games that really put his mind to the test. Look for a new activity and game handpicked by Auggie in every issue of the Acitivity Guide. Test your skills and have fun!

PAPER PLATE & FINGERPRINT SPRING FLOWERS This paper plate fingerprint flower craft looks great on display and is lots of fun to make! SUPPLIES • Flower shaped paper plates or bowls. (You could also cut regular paper plates/bowls into a flower shape).

Maze puzzle Challenge It’s spring cleaning time around Auggie’s A-Corner and Auggie seems to have misplaced a few of his favorite acorns. Can you help Auggie locate his spring acorns? Take your time with this tricky challenge. Be sure to use a pencil in case you and Auggie get lost along the way.

• Scissors, pencil, paper and glue • Washable stamp pads STEPS 1. Cut the bottom circle from the center of 1 paper plate. This will create a circle template. 2. Trace the circle in pencil on your paper. Trace 1 circle for each flower you plan to create. 3. Using the stamp pads, have your toddler decorate the circles with fingerprints. These will be the centers of the flowers. 4. Cut each decorated circle from the sheet of paper. 5. Use glue to attach the center circle to each flower shaped plate or bowl. Policies & Procedures GENERAL INFORMATION

PHOTO/VIDEO LIABILITY DISCLOSURE Photographs and video may be taken of participants during a class or program, and these photographs and video may be used for Town of Danville publicity purposes.

Pre-registration with payment is required for program participation. Payment must accompany registration form. The Waiver of Liability on the registration form must be signed prior to taking a class.

RAINOUTS AND CLASS MAKE-UPS

Credit: Kevin Wong

Advise Town staff if participant has a disability or allergy requiring special accommodations. Class registration form may be sent ahead of registration date. All class registrations submitted prior to the first day of registration will be entered on the appropriate registration date, with no priority given.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Town of Danville encourages those with disabilities to participate in our programs. If you have any special needs that require specific accommodations so you can fully enjoy our classes and programs, call 314-3400.

COURSE CANCELLATION When registration falls below the minimum enrollment required, it may be necessary to cancel a class or program. At the time of cancellation, the Town will initiate a full refund. Check refunds may take 4–6 weeks.

Whenever possible, make-ups will be given on those occasions when inclement weather or instructor illness requires that a class be cancelled. See instructor at next scheduled meeting for make-up date. No refunds (whole or partial) can be given for classes missed by the student.

WAITLISTS Waitlists will be created once a class has reached maximum enrollment. If space becomes available, you will be called.

WITHDRAWALS (CREDITS/REFUNDS) Requests for withdrawal will be honored if requested no later than seven business days prior to the first day of class. There will be a $5 withdrawal fee assessed for each activity. Requests made less than seven business days prior to the first day of class must be submitted in writing and will be considered on an individual basis. A $20 processing fee will be charged for processing refunds made by check. We do not provide cash refunds. Withdrawals for sports leagues may be approved if a team can be replaced before the first game.

RESIDENCY STATUS CLARIFICATION Those living outside the Danville Town limits include residents of the communities of Alamo and Diablo, and Alamo Creek, Bettencourt Ranch, Blackhawk, Bryan Ranch, Monterosso, Shadow Creek and Whitegate housing developments.

Keep the heart of our community going by supporting local businesses. Scan the code with your camera to discover more.

The program and facility fees cover a large portion of the actual costs, though Town of Danville residents also partially support the classes, events and facilities through their property tax assessments. Because of this, those program participants and individuals reserving Town facilities who live outside of Danville pay an additional non-resident charge. If you have any questions about this information, call 314-3400. Special Notice to Alamo Residents living in the Alamo County Service Area R-7A: all R-7A residents are eligible to register for Town-sponsored programs scheduled at Hap Magee Ranch Park during the resident registration period. Non-resident fees still apply for these classes and activities. Call 314-3400 for more information.
