Going Green in Danville The Town of Danville has made important strides toward becoming more environmentally sustainable in the ways we provide services and conduct our day-to-day business. In the parks and recreation-related arena, we’ve added more fuel efficient cars, including hybrids, to the Town’s vehicle fleet, improved the efficiency of the heating and air conditioning systems in Town facilities to reduce energy use, and expanded the Town’s trail system to promote walking and biking instead of the use of cars. We print the Activity Guide on recycled paper with natural inks, but also have it available online through the Town of Danville website at www.ci.danville.ca.us. If you enroll in a class, you automatically receive an online newsletter which contains news and information regarding upcoming classes and events as well as new programs. Registration for the majority of the Town’s programs is paperless and is confirmed with e-mail receipts. And when the Town’s computers and monitors are replaced, the new units require only 3% of the energy previously needed to operate the old ones.

Residency Status Clarification For residents outside the incorporated Town of Danville limits: Those living outside the Danville Town limits include residents of the communities of Alamo and Diablo, and Alamo Creek, Bettencourt Ranch, Blackhawk, Bryan Ranch, Monterosso, Shadow Creek and Whitegate housing developments. The program and facility fees cover a large portion of the actual costs, though Town of Danville residents also partially support the classes, events and facilities through their property tax assessments. Because of this, those program participants and individuals reserving Town facilities who live outside of Danville pay an additional non-resident charge. If you have any questions about this information, call 314-3400.

When I think of summer, I think of Summer Camp and the Town of Danville. As a child, I grew up attending

camps and now I am a camp counselor. I loved attending camp and had such fond memories of summers in Danville. Now as a Camp Counselor I look

forward to spending my summers with campers, making sure their camp experiences are as memorable

as my summers.

ART CLASSES Age 18Y and up Encaustic Painting (Hot Wax), Beginning Connie English Encaustic is a beeswax based paint that was first practiced by the Greeks in the 5th Century. Kept molten on a heated palette, encaustic is applied to a surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a uniform enamel-like finish. It cools immediately so there is no drying time and it can always be reworked. In this one-day workshop you will learn safety, working with heat sources and equipment, paints, medium, collage materials, fusing layers, etc. Bring three plain wood substrates to paint on (no larger than 14x14 inch). Wear cotton art clothes, closed-toe shoes, and a bag lunch. $65 materials fee.

To sign up for a CERT course, please go to: www.firedepartment.org and click on the CERT link. The CERT course is 20 hours and held

CERT—Are you part of it? If you have not signed up for an emergency preparedness class, now is the time! The Town of Danville, in partnership with the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, the City of San Ramon, and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District has been offering the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program since 2006. CERT provides education regarding disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area while training citizens in basic emergency response. You develop skills in areas such as: fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The goal is to train you, your neighbors, school staff and at work on how to care for themselves, their families and co-workers for 5–7 days after a disaster. Since the program’s inception, over 600 people have been trained in the San Ramon Valley. You, too, could be part of this exciting program.

All CERT courses are FREE and are held at the SRV Fire Offices at 1500 Bollinger Canyon Rd, San Ramon. PARTNERS... San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District San Ramon Valley Unified School District The City of San Ramon Citizen Corps The Town of Danville
