What’s New this Spring? Spring, considered the season of renewal, is a good time to venture out and try something new. Whether you’re a child, teen or adult, there are a number of new activities offered this spring for you to experience. For the under 5 crowd (pages 14–19), a Yoga for Kids program with parent participation, PeeWee Tennis and Lil Baseball are all fun ways to instill a lifelong love for physical activity. Older youth (pages 19–26) can try their hand at the new Creative Writing, Arts and Crafts Exploration, or Young Rembrandts Cartooning. They can do something physical, too, and sign up for GO FAR (also known as ‘Go Out For A Run’), a comprehensive fitness program for 3rd–5th graders. Teens (pages 26–29) can spend spring break visiting five different (and close by) college campuses to see which school and community might be the best fit for them, and then follow up with College Success 101—a two-session class designed to prepare students to be successful in college. Teens also have the opportunity to join the inaugural Muggle Quidditch League, a sport based upon the game played in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series. And a new recreational volleyball league is starting up for girls ages 12–14.

DANVILLE DAYCATION WRITING RETREAT Age 18Y and up

ART CLASSES

Spring is a time for new beginnings and the blooming of a fresh new season. What better way to escape spring cleaning, than to discover your inner author and release your endless creativity at the two-day Danville Daycation Writing Retreat, presented by the Town of Danville and National Park Service. Writing is an art form that belongs to all people. Based on the belief that every person has a unique, original voice, published author Teresa Burns Gunther’s one-day writing workshop on Saturday will invite you to create and shape stories and memoir while exploring the art and joy of writing. We’ll write in response to prompts that will evoke memories and ideas and encourage you to focus on bringing your writing to life with concrete details, specific sensory description and dialogue. On Sunday, participants will be whisked away to the Eugene O’Neill Tao House in the upper hills of Danville for a customized tour of the historic site. Retreat appropriate for beginning to advanced writers.

Without his assistance, I could never have reached the lofty goal to finish my soon-to-be published work of fiction. I learned to navigate the wonderland of cyberspace; research, fundamentals of creating folders, photo sharing, etc. Ed Bader’s mantra is not to finish a class without completing a planned lesson. I sincerely thank him for imparting his knowledge to seniors.
