A Note from Mayor Glewen: I would like to welcome you to Beaver Dam, WI, a beautiful, friendly community of nearly 17,000 people, centrally located in what we call the “Triangle of Opportunity” between Madison,Milwaukee and the Green Bay/ Fox Valley area on Highway 151.

Beaver Dam is close to several county parks that offer camping and hiking, and we are only minutes from the Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center and Gold Star and Wild Goose Bike Trails. Derge Park is a thirteen-acre park just five minutes northwest of Beaver Dam and located on the shore of Beaver Dam Lake at N8379 County Road CP. Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge

Beaver Dam is neighbor to the Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. Over 10,000 years ago, glaciers carved out the basin that became Horicon Marsh. Through the years, this important wetland suffered a destructive history, but was protected and restored by a group of dedicated conservationists. Today, thousands of birds and people flock to Horicon Marsh, captivated by the sights and sounds of wildlife in action. • The Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center is conveniently located on Highway 28 between Horicon and Mayville as your first stop to grab maps, hop on the trails and visit the Explorium. • The Explorium is a state-of-the-art, hands-on interactive exhibit. Immerse yourself in the history of the Horicon Marsh. Everything from mammoth smells to airboat rides await you in the Explorium. • With over 300 species to its name, Horicon Marsh is a bird-watching paradise. Watch for colorful songbirds, like scarlet tanagers and blackburnian
warblers, during spring migration. Keep an eye out for young during the summer from our nesting Canada geese, great blue herons and American white pelicans. You’ll be awestruck in autumn as thousands of geese, waterfowl and cranes migrate south. • Marsh-wide, over ten miles of hiking trails and two boardwalks take you through different habitats and wildlife viewing areas. • The Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area (southern third) is open for canoeing and kayaking. Although Beaver Dam has a long history of breweries, our city hasn’t had a brewery since Louis Ziegler Company closed their doors in 1953. That is, until now. Jim and Ruth Metz, in an effort to help bring the community together in downtown, opened Ooga Brewing Company in an old, repurposed used car lot and repair shop at 301 S. Spring Street in 2019. Named after that old car horn sound, ah-oo-gah, that used to be heard at this location, it was Metz’s way to memorialize the building.

The new 40,000-square-foot, two-story SSM Health Dean Medical Group clinic recently opened in Beaver Dam’s 151 Business Park. The clinic houses SSM Health Dean Medical Group and Agnesian HealthCare primary and specialty care providers in addition to imaging, laboratory and pharmacy services. The clinic, located just off Highway 151, provides more convenience for patients, along with upgraded facilities and equipment, and allows room for growth.

The origins of Breuer Metal Craftsmen are rooted in Germany and France during the early 1900s. For over a century, they have specialized in the development and manufacturing of piston pins to serve the internal combustion market. They are also the world’s leading producer of awardwinning precision powder metal components. Fun Fact: Burgess-Norton Manufacturing Company powers over 150 million vehicles globally every day.
JOHN DEERE
John Deere Horicon Works makes premium riding lawn equipment (X300, X500, X700 Series tractors) and premium utility vehicles for John Deere customers worldwide. The factory also makes some attachments for those products, as well as golf course management cutting systems for high-accuracy turf management. Fun Fact: The John Deere Horicon Works factory is here because of the activities of a bird called the passenger pigeon. Seems this bird would follow farmers seeding the fields and eat much of the seed that was distributed. The Van Brunt brothers saw this happening and designed a machine to plant the seed in the ground to protect it from the birds. These machines increased yields significantly for the farmers. John Deere partnered with the Van Brunt family in 1911, and the equipment, known as the Grain Drill, became part of the John Deere product family.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese was first produced in Beaver Dam in 1924 by the Phenix Cheese Company. J.L. Kraft purchased Phenix Cheese Company in 1928. The Beaver Dam food plant is one of the original Kraft plants and employs just over 250 employees, runs 3 shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Kraft and Heinz merged in 2015 to form Kraft Heinz. Fun Fact: In the 1940s, an employee from the Beaver Dam plant by the name of Oscar J. Link developed new technology to improve the cream cheese production process. That same technology is still the industry standard for cream cheese production today.

Fun Fact: Mittera Wisconsin has its own detached post office in the building and sends out over 85 million pieces of mail a year. Mittera use nearly 28 million pounds of paper each year, all sustainably produced. Their typical roll weighs 2,000 pounds and takes us around 30 minutes to use.
NORTHWOODS CASKET COMPANY, INC. Handcrafts fine wooden
caskets and cremation urns in a manner that preserves and protects precious natural resources and the Earth’s beautiful landscapes. While they ship nationwide, much of their business is here in Wisconsin, serving more than 300 funeral home locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota with next-day delivery guaranteed. The distribution arm of their business, Casket Builder Supply, ships specialty parts, hardware and upholstery to other boutique casket companies and independent builders worldwide. They serve more than 1,600 casket builders regularly. Fun Fact: They plant 100 trees in Wisconsin for every casket they build and 10 trees for every cremation urn built.

Fun Fact: Up until a little more than ten years ago, Richelieu Foods produced different types of foods, including potato salads and meatloaf! A little over a decade ago, the company shifted its focus to be private-label frozen pizza.

A full-service metal fabrication facility with forty full-time employees and two shifts. In Beaver Dam since 2004, they are a family owned business with a combined 127 years of experience in the metalworking and machinery building industry. They use state-of-the-art equipment to fabricate products and complete assemblies for Original Equipment Manufactures (OEM) in the transportation, refrigeration, food manufacturing, snow removal and pharmaceutical industries and many more.
